Any ludwig/logarious hcs? 👀👀 (if it's fine for you ofc)
I'D LOVE TO TELL!! But in order to make the headcanons sound clear, I'll need to explain Logarius. I'll try not to write too much and rather get to the headcanons themselves, because Logarius's interpretation is a separate essay xd
They met at Logarius's "Communion" to the Church, which was conducted by Laurence. Ludwig had not received the title of First Hunter of the Healing Church yet. Willem was still there and knew Logarius himself. Yharnam met the Church's new knight, Logarius, a former knight from Cainhurst (with distinctive Pthumerian blood reflected in his appearance - pale, white-haired, under 2 meters tall, hot). Laurence created a beautiful story for him for people to pick up on - that he had rejected his Cainhurst heretic heritage, denied the unholy rituals practiced by his tribesmen, and decided to give himself to the service of the Church, fighting for the purity of the Blood and the purity of the Faith.
When Logarius first joined the Church, his only support was Laurence. They had an agreement, and only Vicar knew the final purpose of Executioners. The Vicar gave Logarius every opportunity to assimilate in return for a full castle plan and the secrets of Cainhurst, as well as loyal service. The first impression Ludwig built up very quickly was that Logarius was a sycophant and sucking up to Laurence to get ahead, and the fact that he was, in fact, a traitor to his people seared into his mind.
Ludwig trained future "black" and "white" church hunters. He was the one who taught the Healing Church how to handle weapons and made it the norm as monster sightings in Yharnam increased. But his main responsibility at first were Tomb Prospectors. Funnily enough, Tomb Prospectors were despised by the people of Yharnam because it was an unholy business, digging up graves, which was considered a terrible sin in the days before the Healing Church. Superstitions! The Executioners, on the contrary, were loved. Because Logarius knew how to show himself, because they fought for the "just cause", and also, because Logarius has a huge charisma and the ability to persuade.
Both the Tomb Prospectors and the Executioners were selected by their leaders, and originally gathered from only those who were willing to follow the Church. Logarius gathered like-minded men partly from the nobles and Cainhurst's servants, and partly from the poor who believed his sermons, partly from the heretics of Hemwick - from the world at large. And Ludwig found young ragamuffins on the street, taking them under his tutelage and stern training. Both men were excellent mentors.
For some time Logarius wore the Cainhurst armor as a kind of brand("my impure heretic armour stays on during sex"). In the heat, in the cold - he kept it on, and under it he had a coat of cloth, and right on top of the armor - a gray cloak of Executioners, for whom the Church had created the first models of uniforms, to bring Logarius's gang of murderers, robbers and bandits, very deeply believing in Blood and Insight, into proper shape. He himself called it his form of "repentance" - he CONFESSED his origins by belittling himself and calling his roots "wicked".
Ludwig found it all ostentatious and was not too ready to understand it. They were both knights to the core, but Ludwig was an idealist - someone who believed in the spirit of noble chivalry, the ideals of honor and friendship, while Logarius was more crude and a fanatic
Logarius, though he had spent half his life with the ideals of Cainhurst, was well educated and knew etiquette, but he is a rather rude man in his own right. He does not hesitate to say what he thinks (only exception is Laurence), does not hesitate to seek all sorts of amusements with men and women in Yharnam, to give money wherever he sees fit, whether it be to help a random poor man on the street or a bottle of expensive wine for his personal pleasure. He knows he was going to die, and so he enjoys every day like it's the last one, while continuing to follow his own faith.
This is exactly the kind of Logarius Ludwig met in the Church!
And finally the headcanons!
When they became sort of "rivals" (Tomb Prospectors vs Executioners) Ludwig was already tormented by the visions and dreams that preceded the discovery of the Chalice of Isz and the subsequent acquisition of the Holy Moonlight Sword. Ludwig did not appreciate Logarius's savagery and fanaticism for blood purity, nor did he appreciate the morals of the Executioners, who didn't really care about Yharnam and it's people. If it were up to them, they would have profited from many Yharnamites, but Logarius kept them in line. And Logarius had grown to sympathize with Ludwig. Naive, pure, loyal and giving all of himself knight from foreign country - Ludwig looked like a child for him. Logarius felt even a little envy, but quickly stopped himself. He liked to tease the impulsive Ludwig, watching the anger on his face and his fervent reaction to any rebuke.
The acrimonious relationship between captain Ludwig and knight Logarius quickly became common knowledge. And Laurence tried to reconcile them by dinner at a Yharnam diner for the two squads (the Tomb Prospectors had 7 men and the Executioners had 13 at the time). Ludwig was very drunk, which led him to lay out to Logarius all his hardships and problems - the perpetual nightmares where he dies, the strained relationship with the vicar, life at his own job, the endless monsters and the despair he was sinking into. And Logarius treated his problems reverently, listening to them all and not even telling anyone that Ludwig had shed many tears during that night of the talk.
Logarius revealed his name to him, creating the first trust - Roger! (Yes, I really like that he's Rogeriusz in the original!!!). From that moment on, Ludwig called him only like that, though his Tomb Prospector guys looked askew at their captain when he suddenly started speaking well of Logarius, as if he hadn't nagged him every day before.
Logarius tasted Ludwig's blood. He simply tasted it right from his body (from the wound cut by the weapon), and determined from the taste of the blood that it was mixed with something extraneous (Laurence did nothing at all for this, no). Logarius couldn't understand what had happened to Ludwig, and neither could Ludwig himself, but he realized that the source of all his nightmares was his own blood. So he gave him a vial of his own, which he was able to decant with the tools of the Church. The Pthumerian's blood gave a minus for minus with the blood of the Great Ones, and Ludwig's dreams stopped for a while, making him EVEN MORE receptive to the the eldritch truth and giving him some insight lol
They liked to have verbal duels. Both of them were well-read aristocrats - they threw words from various poems or tried to compose their own subtle insults hidden in metaphors and epithets. They did it only in public, because calling a colleague an "asshole" in the middle of the Grand Cathedral is strange, but saying the same thing in verse and with beautiful words is fine xd
After the drunken night, they began to communicate much more, and Ludwig found that Roger was somehow trying to show his softer side with him - he gave him advice, comforted him, sometimes treating him too reverently, in a way that made Ludwig feel weak. Ludwig thought they were building a strong friendship, while Logarius was attracted to him and very much.
Logarius is very tactile - he needs to touch, feel, slap the other's ass, stroke his head, in every way to indicate that he has all rights to his lover. Ludwig found it pleasant, though embarrassing, especially when it happened in public. I don't think Ludwig realized right away that Logarius wanted him, I think it came gradually xd
Often during official services in the Church, Logarius would catch Ludwig's hand unnoticed by everyone and squeeze it in his own. He tried to do it so that no one could see, and watched the changing expressions on the other's face :^) It was a need for closeness, for tactile sensations, a joke and an attempt to be supportive. Logarius was sometimes very hard to understand exactly what he meant xd
Actually, my Ludwig is married :/ And I'm still undecided whether or not to combine a headcanon about his wife with headcanons about Logarius. On the one hand, my OC Elise would pay a solid sum to see a hand-to-hand training fight between her spouse and Logarius sweaty, oiled, and half-naked. She's a lady of character and desires XD And not to go into detail about the OC now, I will say that she would have taken it calmly if Ludwig had told her how he felt towards another man. It wouldn't have destroyed their family, I think it would have been Ludwig who would have been shocked, distressed and depressed, not her, because she's very cynical and rational to the core. On the other hand I think it's better not to have a controversy and just separate the two beautiful stories - in one version Ludwig will be married and in the other version Ludwig will have feelings for Logarius. BUT I don't want to throw out my OC because of the pairing, I hate it when female characters get tossed aside "oh, you're the third wheel for my yaoi, sorry, you'll be gone <3"!!!! So I dare to keep both. I just won't say that there was exactly love between Ludwig and Logarius. Logarius experienced attraction, admiration, interest, and a desire for protection, and Ludwig found solace and comfort around him and then they fucked hard. I'm still undecided on what to do :( But I'm leaning towards combining Logarius and Elise. Elise is a wonderful woman, by the way :^)
When Ludwig and Logarius became close, Logarius realized that he wanted children with him, that he had found a successor for his Order after his own death. He dreamed and planned to give the Executioners to Ludwig, for he had never met a better and nobler man. At the same time strict and tender, warrior and father - the best mentor. In fact, when the news came that the attack on Cainhurst had been completed and Logarius had been captured, Ludwig took the Executioners under his command. But the news of his friend's "death" shattered him, causing him to fall out of life for a couple weeks.
After that, Ludwig's life went further downhill. Most of the Tomb Prospectors died, with only Olek and Gremia remaining from the first generation, and Damian leaving the ranks. The new Tomb Prospectors were recruited from the Church Hunters, and Ludwig realized he could no longer take command of them. He gave the title of captain to Gremia, designating him "Sir". Later, his wife and daughter turned into monsters because of Blood. He killed them himself. And while his wife became an unconscious monster, when he drew his sword over his daughter, he knew that her consciousness was still intact… Ludwig lost himself. And his world collapsed too. Then tragedy of Old Yharnam happened, and he turned into a giant horse guy that we know... And from the sword, he continued to hear the voices of those he had lost - his Elise, his daughter, Roger, and his former "sons" - the dead Tomb Prospectors.
Well, in the conclusion - Ludwig was a rare excpetion from the rule when Logarius really tried to be nice and felt interest without agression or a desire to take control over the one he loves. The could be great together, but bloody duty would always more important for Logarius than anything esle. And also Logarius was not really a best person to love. He just didn't want Ludwig to know what crime he will commit, what sins he has behind his back. Logarius was a sly guy, lacking empathy and moral principles, but devoted to his own ideal and aim. Maybe he saw in Ludwig the best version of himself, what attracted him later.
+ Funny pics from pinterest that actually suit that pairing
