Sometimes you can tell how weird people are going to be about Dirk Strider from the way they choose to draw him...
#Like#Sometimes I'm about to reblog a fanart piece and I have to stop myself because I can just tell they're going to be weird about ships#And siblings specially............#Always something very very off#Be it a weird fixation with gore or incest or an obvious glorification of extreme mental illness#I'm right about my hunches 99% of the time#Anyway#Not to get into Discourse because if something makes me uncomfortable I just let it be but man#Some things could have died with the old fandom#delete later

hiii your art always make my day better, so hope u had a good day too. But can I ask what brushes you usually use in your arts? Like the way you use brushes and colors are so good TuT I can't fathom it sometimes. How do u make those kinds of textures. I'm new in this tumbler, so apologies if it's already been answered before. <33
Heyo anon, thanks for asking and no problem! I've answered this a couple of times before across all my platforms, but ig this is a good opportunity to answer and add to my carrd FAQ! <3 Let me break down what I use them for a bit too. (lots of blabbing below so I'll but a read-more tab)
Main:
(sketching) Design pencil (default in CSP, you can probably find it on the assets store because it was from the earlier version of CSP)
(sketching/coloring/general use) G-pen
(sketching/coloring/general use) Dense watercolor (same case as the design pencil)
As for brushes that I use for texturing and painting, I use the Daub brush pack for CSP. My favorites come from the aenigma, pigmento, and basiliscus sets. You can find them on gumroad, or just google! I believe they have brushes for procreate and photoshop too but I think the brush packs aren't the same across platforms.
For making the texture itself, it's kind of a random process that idk how to explain properly lmao. Let me link my Kokomi timelapse so you can see how much I jump around the canvas to carve out the textures:
I like to use different blending modes and layer tons of different colors. The color jitter function is super amazing too for that purpose, but probably shouldn't be overused for the sake of balance. (personally still trying to avoid over-saturating my works with textures tbh)
To be 100000% honest though, I tend to jump around a lot, and I certainly don't use all of those brushes in every piece.
I used to lurk around a lot myself and hoard tons of brushes other artists were using, until I saw a comment of an artist I admire: "sometimes the brush you use really isn't important. Without practice the painting will be ugly."(not the most accurate translation probably because it was written in another language)
After that I had like… an epiphany moment where I really believed them, and drew a Bonanus fanart in June. I made the lineart with a g-pen (which I never used cuz I always thought I'd be somehow inhibiting my creative power using default brushes or something), and the piece ended up blowing up on twt much to my surprise.. LOL. After that, I started to care less about other's brushes and instead of looking for more, try to figure out how I could make cool textures and strokes with the ones I currently had at my disposal.
(said bonanus art)
This isn't a statement to say "stop looking for other artist's brushes, copying brushes bad, etc" because there is a LOT that you can learn from using other artist's brush inventory.
But you can also have a lot of fun drawing when you focus less about what other's use, and more about what brushes YOU are comfortable using + feels right to you. Sometimes you may even need to tweak them a bit in their brush settings instead of using their default form before they feel comfy for you! It's a matter of exploring and figuring out what works and what doesn't in your workflow, hehe.
Anyways I hope this answer helps as we all continue our art journey together. Sending positive vibes your way anon! <3

Imma reblog this post for a bit, and will drop a big rant about this piece. Thought it is pretty, this piece was something that means so much to me, especially to the song that inspired me to make this
(big rant under this, it's about mental stuff and such)
(I'll copy paste the one I wrote in my Instagram post here)
I'm going to be quite honest, I rushed this piece to share last night because I was busy, but I also made this for reasons.
I wasn't really feeling all that great during these past days, school has been pressuring me a lot and I have been getting many negative thoughts and feelings whenever I try to sleep or just rest during the day. I wasn't in the right mental state during those times, made me contemplate on a lot of stuff that I do.
I felt vulnerable and useless, I cried so much that time that I thought it wasn't normal to cry much, sometimes I even try to stop myself from crying and hate myself whenever I do. Sometimes I said that my feelings at that moment never mattered, that it shouldn't be a big thing to worry and go on about, but yk as someone who has big anxiety and gets stressed out on stuff for little things, it wasn't that great.
I talked to friends, I talked to close ones, to helpt me go through it, company me for a moment and I feel so bad that they have to see me in that vulnerable state. I usually don't want to open up to everyone and not dump them with my problems to burden them. But even so, I'm still trying to tell myself that it's okay to talk to someone about it, that it's okay to be vulnerable to your close ones as long as the other is there for you.
This song "Here comes a thought" means so much to me, like there are probably many meanings to this song about anxiety and such, but in a way, the song relates to me somewhat.
I find it weird and funny that I drew smth about this song with RR!Light, but I still find some sort of comfort to draw fanart. Lately I haven't been feeling great and started to lose passion in drawing fanart, but drawing this made me feel some relief(?) that I can still do the stuff that I love, and I just needed some time off and take my time with everything.
Sorry for the big talk about my feelings y'all, though I'm gonna go through this well.
Here comes a thought....𐦍 ݁ ˖ ‧₊˚ ⋅ .
Chat I speedran this so fast like my life depended on it HSHSHEHWHDHAZ
#you guys can scroll by this#i dont really care#i just wanna let out my feelings for once after bottling a lot of it#i still am doing that#not everything is mentioned in this post#but some that i wanna let it out

My dude... this is a hobby. If drawing pictures of space makes you happy, then who cares how many followers it gets you? You're not getting paid or anything so I guess I'm kinda confused.
First thing - "This is a hobby." And you are absolutely right. This blog is a hobby. Drawing all this fanart is a hobby. My hobby is that I get into fandoms sometimes, and write stories and draw fanart.
But you gotta understand, drawing isn't just something I want to label as a hobby. It definetly is, for now, but art is my life- I think you can find artists on tumblr who had this as a hobby before, and it became their job, because the thing about art is that it makes you want to create - and I don't want to create just a hobby. I want art to be my life, and while I know and understand it can take time (or even never at all) for that to happen, I never want to limit it to 'just a hobby'. I don't know how aware you are of this, but I have been drawing for years before I made this tumblr account - from my childhood - and I don't intend to ever stop, even long after I stop using tumblr.
This art blog is a hobby. My art isn't.
Second - "why do you worry about how many followers/likes/reblogs it (that art) gets you?" Because it's not about people who just like that art, who enjoy what content you give, but also enjoy the art itself. we're good friends after so long, ej, but tell me, would you have ever been interested in my art if none of it had been homestuck related? Had you stumbled across my blog, with seemingly no theme/no fandom interest, would you have ever reached out as anon to become friends with me? Not to be cynical, but the answer would be 'very unlikely'. I'm pretty sure you became my anon after sending anons to Sky, who had also been into homestuck at the time.
And it's not about showing my art off to random internet strangers. I want to show off my accomplishments and my achievements, the same way I would with my friends, which I have been doing for years - I want to show off my art and show people how well I'm doing, the things I'm doing in every piece, have some kind of interaction because of it. I want a level of intimant reaction that doesn't happen all that much anymore, besides someone just liking my post and moving on. Are you aware of the displaced ratio of likes to reblogs that happens on art now? Likes are all good, but Tumblr doesn't run on likes, and the sad fact is that original art gets so much less attention than fandom art, so that impacts those original pieces so much more. I want to know people are enjoying my art and see that they are, because I worked hard to make it and people see that I did. It's discouraging to see that something I worked get few notes (interaction and people who saw it but didn't spread it) and worse, it discourages beginning artists to not even try. If even artists like myself (and even better ones) feel like this, then how do those beginners feel?
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy myself and my art, and the fandom art I provide. But Tumblr has so much capability (and freedom) that other platforms starve off and don't provide, so it's disheartening to see our attempts to branch out and expand to show our limits fail. I'm happy drawing homestuck and minecraft block game men, I guess, but I feel limited, in an unexplainable way, that if I post clouds I drew or space or flowers or whatever the fuck, suddenly, someone following me stops caring because it's not johnkat or tommyinnit.
#answered#anon#evil john anon#and ive seen it too....#people in the tags like 'why have you stop posting x?'#and ej you gotta understand - applying yourself as a fandom artist DOES limit you#'why dont you draw fandom x anymore?'#certain people follow certain blogs for certain things and its just how it is#and it SUCKS because i fucking HATE seein an artist getting harrassed for it#who cant post what they want without someone going 'what about when you drew x?'#i understand tumblr is about fandom but our own followers limit us#im sorry but bluntly: exactly why you asking why i care is WHY I CARE#there are so many problems that happen because of being in a fandom#including how ur percieved especially when youre an artist#youre expected to provide the normal content - people dont like when something changes and they dont#like when a show is written differently or a youtuber makes different content#i understand why your perspective is asking why i care so much but if i didnt care? then i wouldnt even be here#id have never reached out. have never gotten into fandoms. and wouldnt have the blog#thats why.

chiiiile I'm not even in your fandom but for heaven's sake calm down lol. Gifs are the lowest form of "fanart", you cannot compare gif-making with drawing, FMV editing, fanfiction writing, etc. which all are WORTH crediting, for gifs you literally just copy some seconds out of another person's work (I gif myself, HQ) why should anyone go through trouble to find out who made a gif with google search before saving rofl. it's not art, everyone can do it and so many do the same scenes, wtf chiiiile
same anon (chiiile): stop taking yourself so seriously okayy? If you want notes and followers, learn something that in fact is art and worth people’s attention. Making drama for not crediting gifs, omg, I can’t stop laughing, how entitled and spoilt must a person be (or veeeery young). No need to reply to this or the previous message, I will not see it as I’ll block you right away so have a nice life and please, stop making drama for nothing key?
“chiiiiiile?” lmao but i’m not and never would compare gif-making with fanart. it’s still some lazy little turd taking what someone else does and getting credit they don’t deserve. why shouldn’t they take 5 minutes and do it properly? if i can do it, so can they. just bc it doesn’t bother you doesn’t mean others aren’t bothered. that’s sort of how the world works. i’m the type of person who operates by “if it bothers someone, i’m not going to do it,” even if it doesn’t bother 99% of people. it is really very easy to not be a piece of crap.
I don’t get pissy over my own notes, and most of the bitching I do re: stolen shit is about other people, not my own stuff. i’m thrilled to have even one random stranger out there think anything i put out is worth a like, much less a reblog. i could be super well known and still think people who purposely take credit for something someone else spent their time on are arrogant, lazy, and just plain rude. i’m neither entitled, nor spoiled, nor young. i’m just respectful (sometimes, let’s be honest) and outspoken. i’ll reply to both because we both know that people who send rude anons are always waiting for a response. always. i’m here for you. if i didn’t make drama for nothing, what would you have done with yourself instead of trying to come for me with your (2) embarrassing anons? pass some more shit off as your own when it isn’t, i guess.
but thanks, mom! always teach the lesson that being lazy and taking credit for someone else’s time and effort is far better than doing the barest modicum of work, yourself. it’s a good lesson for young republicans to learn.
bonus lesson: never stick up for anyone, because that’s called ~making drama~ and drama is bad. lesson the third? always attack anonymously and add a southern flair to your messages. people will take you seriously.
btw - i used to write fic and create fanvids in my previous fandom. it definitely hurts more to have a story taken, stolen, and reuploaded under someone else’s name than to see people using your gif and getting notes. gif-making isn’t comparable to writing, or drawing, or many other mediums, but it’s still time spent on something. just because you hold no value for yourself doesn’t mean i and others don’t value ourselves.
value yourself. value others. i do. there’s not a single thing wrong with that.

those iconic moments are like ICONIC i think i've seen all of them except for the eunsang one. my favourite iconic moments and the first ones that popped into my head are soobin's "bye guys hi ladies muah" and sunghoon's tiktok video that went viral recently. those moments live in my head rent free. i literally cannot get them out of my head.
and, yeah the cgi in monster was very startling and i have a physical reaction every time i see it.
i'm so sorry that she's left and her favourite group disbanded 😕 and i don't take any offence either!! i know i'm not her because this is my first time writing publicly on tumblr, and none of my favourite groups have disbanded so far.
ooo!!! idk if it's because i don't understand giffiing or because the giffing i see on my dash is so high quality, but if there were a tumblr hierarchy i think giffers should be on top, besides graphics creators and artists. they're constantly keeping up with new content, and giffing all of it in HD (sometimes 4k) with good colouring (even when the original doesn't have good colouring) and i'm just like WOW. i know i could never do it and i respect the grind fr. so, i respect you for doing that, making graphics, AND making fanart at the same time. speaking of fanart, i saw your recent felix one and i am BLOWN away. like, how?? knowing that your canvas was once empty and you managed to produce THAT out of it is literally like... my mind is blown.
ooo yes, i'm picky with who i read too. when it comes to a little read here & there, the quality of the writing doesn't matter much to me. but when it comes to reading longer fics, there are only a few writers who can captivate my attention for THAT long, you know? please don't apologise for studying!! i've been busy myself these days (which is why this is SUPER late), so i completely understand.
and tysm!! your reassurances have definitely broken me out of my shell, and i'm more than ready for the reveal soon! thank you SO much for the reccs! i've noted them down so i will definitely listen to them sometime soon.
today's mission was to give me a playlist, but you've already given me a playlist of recs so now all we have to do is wait for monday! sorry for all of this, but i'm super excited for the reveal! - 🗝 anon
Hello anon, hope you’re doing good!
Ah, how could I forget that… it’s really such a cute and funny vid to watch! Sunghoon’s tiktok? I don’t recall seeing any of his recent ones so I’ll check it out!
Ooh yeah the continuous wait for frames to finish rendering; that’s a pain. But it’s overshadowed by the nice tags people leave after reblogging or some sweet asks; really makes it worth it. Thank you so much, that’s legitimately so sweet of you to say <3 it took a while because it was the first time in a while but seeing the positive response makes my heart happy!
I prefer series over drabbles so I usually have to look for writers whose diction I vibe with and I have found three (used to be a bit more but unfortunately, quite a few left) that are such! I also am kinda selective about genres I read, mostly it’s angst/thrillers/crime but a little slice of life or fantasy here and there doesn’t hurt. I generally don’t like really fluffy or romantic ones— I’m the kind of person who wants the plot to be interesting and read more of what’s happening outside of someone’s love life; same with movies and dramas! Oh and I avoid nsfw like the plague. If you would like to check them out: @/maatryoshkaa (her serial killer au is amazing, I kid you not! Really made me fall in love with her kdrama-esque writing and she’s got a cute highschool series going on for the soft crowd), @/yeonjuncore (one of the most eloquent writers ever; pick up any piece from her and you won’t stop until you’ve finished it —and sometimes are left yearning for more— she has nsfw stuff but was kind enough to help me blacklist tags for them! I’d recommend checking out the stuff she wrote for a halloween special last year, it has some real gold hidden in the nooks and crannies) & @/angelictaehyun (I only recent started reading her stuff and was done with almost all of her Taehyun fics in the span of a day. Her wording has a prim and proper feel to it, but it’s also not awkwardly professional? She writes shorter stuff, at least compared to what I’m used to, but most of her works are cute and really keep your emotions engaged).
No problem! Is it okay if I still make a playlist for you? I’m more of a feel-good, summery and sweet songs kinda person generally —but I like a ton of different genres too haha— so that’s kinda the theme of the playlist (I sprinkled in a couple of non-kpop/kdrama tracks too)!
The feeling’s mutual; I’m really excited to meet you off anon too~ hope you have a lovely day and that you’re doing well!

1-30 because I'm a way too invested/interested gal (u don't have to answer the ones other people want to know)
Aaaa, thank you, friend!
Here we go then!
Do you prefer traditional drawing, or digital?
Traditional but I enjoy digital as well! It’s just… very different?
How long have you been drawing?
Pfffft I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember. Started drawing digitally 2 years ago in photo shop though.
How many classes have you taken?
I’ve been taking a few classes in the weekends for about 9 years but I wasn’t learning much [was rather going there because I liked the atmosphere and because I was able to participate in many art competitions.
I’ve been taking architecture classes as well for half an year now!
Do you have a DeviantArt, personal website, or art blog?
Ah, well, this is my art blog actually! [personal blog: @the-creepy-unicorn]
And I also have an instagram account: thecreepyunicorn
What’s your favorite thing to draw?
Probably girls [just girls in general], my OCs and eyes [love putting details in them]
What’s your least favorite thing to draw?
Ooooh now this is an interesting one. Honestly, probably armors because they take WAAAAY TOO LONG.
How often do you use references?
For almost every drawing, usually character references to make sure I get the character right, poses references because… anatomy and angles… Yeah, as long as it’s not an OC I use references for everything.
Do you draw professionally, or just for fun?
Considering that I mostly post fanart, I would say I do it for fun! Bur I am also preparing a portfolio for an architecture university in the meantime…
How much time do you spend drawing on an average day?
It really depends! But far less than I want to. I usually doodle daily, a small sketch every day at least or I don’t feel good. It’s just a thing I do. But I don’t draw bigger projects such as requests until I really have time because I put a lot of effort in all the things I post and I can’t just work 40 minutes and let it go. I should draw so much more but… school… fuck school…
Are you confident about your art?
Hell no! I’m probably the biggest hater of myself [not just in art] especially when it comes to it because it really never seems to be goo enough. But it’s not like I can stop. Once you’ve started drawing, you can never go back, NEVER. I am always disappointed in my art and sometimes just hate everything about it but again, I can’t stop. So I’ll just wait to improve and maybe some day my art will actually be decent.
How many art-related blogs do you follow?
MANY! A LOT! SUPPORTING ARTISTS IS VERY IMPORTANT WITH ALL YOU HAVE! ALWAYS! That’s why I let people see who I follow on this blog [90% of the people I follow here are art blogs and I just hope this comes as a mini shout out to them, even if it doesn’t get much because I’m not that good or popular, the people I follow here deserve all the love somebody can give.
Is it okay for people to ask you about your process?
SURE! I would never mind! I’m not that good but I maybe know a thing or two?
Do you prefer to keep your art personal, or do you like drawing things for other people?
Both. I mostly draw fanart but I always draw for myself, like doodles, sketches, OCs [nothing big though except the things I do for architecture]
Do you ever collaborate with others?
STILL WORKING ON OUR COLLAB DON’T THINK I FORGOT [it just takes a lot of time i’m sorry]. You [ @joolychuu ] are actually the only person I have collaborated so far thought! OwO
How long does an average piece take you to complete?
Weeks. Or at least 3 days for me to be OK with it. I can also do a small not s detailed piece in 2 hours as well but it usually takes me a lot of time because I put maximum effort in all my pieces. [even if the notes don’t show it]
Do you draw more today than you did in the past, or do you draw less?
Hard to say, really. I paint less but overall I think I do draw more.
Do you think you’re justified in giving other people art advice?
Not really? I Even thought I do it sometimes, I do it because those people ask for advice and I might not know a lot, but I am willing to share whatever I can with people interested.
What are you currently trying to improve on?
I am trying to go back to a style. I want to be able to call that my style finally, to be pleased with “the personality” my drawings should have. I just want to have a style that people would see and say: OOOH IT’S HER! But I doubt I will ever be good enough…
What is the most difficult thing for you to draw?
Axonometric projections [architecture term] or request I don’t really enjoy. Skin is also a pain in the ass as well!!!
What is the easiest thing for you to draw?
Faces. Because I doodle and sketch them all the time.
Do you like to challenge yourself?
Usually yes, I like to try new thing but I don’t think I can say I have an “artistic comfort zone either..
Are you confident that you’re improving steadily?
No because I am not. I can’t see major fast progress. I can’t see a certain style, I can’t do big projects, I am not good at art but I try.
Do you draw more fanart, or more original art?
A mixture actually because I do traditional art to improve my lines and architecture knowledge but I draw fan art digitally for pleasure.
Do you feel jealous when you see other people’s art, or inspired? (Be honest!)
INSPIRED! I’ve learned to control my jealousy level and if I want to get in “the artsy mood” I usually just watch sketchbook tours or see my favorite artists’ or friends’ work. I AM ALWAYS SO HAPPY WHEN MY ARTIST FRIENDS GET NOTES OR FOLLOWERS OR ASKS I AM JUST SO HAPPY FOR THEM!
Do you like to draw in silence, or with music?
Music. I need to be disconnected from anything happening outside if I want to get focused and music just inspires me.
For digital artists: what program(s) do you use?
PhotoSop CS6 ! [also known as hell]
For digital artists: how many layers does a typical piece require?
Varies from 3 to 15. Depends on the style and the complexity.
For traditional artists: what medium do you like most? (Pencil, charcoals, etc)
Pencil! But painting with acrylic colors is also a BIG part of me.
For traditional artists: How do you usually start on a big piece? (Light sketch, colored lead, sketchpaper, etc)
I don’t do big pieces traditionally except for architecture classes and for paintings… depends on what I want to do and how I feel. Sometimes I don’t even do pencil sketch on canvas but if it’s for a present, I do at least 2 sketched before starting the linework on canvas and starting to paint.
What inspires you to not just make art, but to be a better artist?
My friends who are also artists and just good art in general. Also reblogs and likes and small “comment tags” or asks just mean SO MUCH for literally every artist. It just gives you the validation you sometimes need and represents that thing that just keeps you going.
THANK YOU FOR ASKING!
