Someone please PLEASE listen to me: Since Ponyboy is canonically up a grade, and Soda did really bad in all his classes (I think he says he was failing in everything except auto?), he probably would’ve been held back. Since Ponyboy turns 14 in the summer, that means he would be a sophomore after the events of the book (if my math is right). Soda’s an October baby so he’d be a junior regularly. If he got held back, then he’d still be a sophomore. So what I’m trying to say is it’s entirely Soda and Ponyboy could’ve been in the same grade if Soda hadn’t dropped out. And I desperately want that.
