I started playing Pokémon for the first time at the very beginning of Gen 6 but with a Gen 5 game because I didn't get a 3DS until ORAS came out which meant for a whole year, I saw X and Y as this elusive magical 3D POKÉMON GAME I could never own where you can actually PET YOUR POKÉMON and they actually react to getting hit and have their own fainting and attacking animations, not just a very pixelated single looping idle animation, and SYLVEON AND FENNEKIN IS IN IT!!!!
I remember during primary school, my best friend brought in her 3DS and everyone was hogging her about it because it was the fancy new console back then and she had Pokémon X in it. She let me play for five minutes and I immediately looked for Pokémon Amie because I wanted to fucking pet the Pokémon God damn it.
Christmas 2014 was definitely in my Top 3 Christmas Ever because I asked for a second hand copy of Pokémon Sapphire because I wanted to join in the ORAS Hype even if I didn't have a 3DS and BOOM, they got me a 3DS and a shiny new copy of Pokémon Alpha Sapphire to go with it. I bought Pokémon X the next day with money I got from Christmas cards. You'd better believe I got picked Fennekin and Sylveon as soon as possible.
My first ever Pokémon fanfiction was about X and Y instead. It was a detective mystery about some mysterious masked criminal going around and kidnapping the Kalos Gym Leaders one by one and the main character was Emma from the Looker postgame story and two OCs (Valerie's older brother and one of Olympia's Gym Trainers and Valerie's best friend, who's a psychic with uncontrollable cryokinesis so she has to wear a power restraining hat at all times)
People complained that Diantha was the easiest Champion but that didn't stop me from being terrified of battling her. That Mega Gardevoir was intimidating as hell to me. And the credits! KISEKI makes me emotional when I see those lyrics again
May not have been my first ever Pokémon game but I got the nostalgic memories of it before I even got my copy.
“Critically, X and Y are objectively bad Pokémon ga—“
Okay but did you stay up hours wandering the streets of Kalos pretending it was your home? Hm??
Did you weave your way through every single plaza and still get lost ? Wander through alleys just to see which trainers would spawn there?
Did you spend your time trying to get five stars in all the minigames?? Match the color of your poképuffs to the pokémon you were feeding? Visit the shops every day for new clothes? Battle your way through waiters to get Style Points? Talk to the citizens of Kalos, bike circles around Lumiose Tower? Did you hatch eggs for fun before you could even grasp the concept of shiny hunting, you simply hatched and hatched because you liked the pokémon and nothing more? Did you spend all night wondertrading just to see how many people across the world you could connect with, and what interesting pokémon they would give? Did you accidentally stumble across the Lumiose ghost girl prior to knowing she was in the game and nearly cry yourself to sleep that night you were so terrified? Did you cherish the random shinies you’d get through trade, regardless if they were hacked or not? Did you regularly visit Professor Sycamore just because you loved him and wanted to see how he was doing? Did you pummel the Elite Four time and time again not for the money but just to make yourself feel like a real champion and see the victory screen? Did you spend hours wondering who wrote that message on the time tables, waiting for an event that never happened? Did you race another person for a pokémon on the GTS? Did you spend hours making the perfect trainer PR video and constantly jump at the opportunity to show it off to some rando on the PSS? ?
Did you???? Did you?????
