Last year I started this huge project of redrawing a bunch of my Self Inserts in my more plump body style, a few of which I posted sporadically as I made them. The plan was to full a whole page with all my old S/Is and then full color all of them and post them all together.
I recently picked that project back up and added a few more S/Is but.. The longer I look at my massive canvas the less motivated I am to color it and then the less motivated I am to do other art
So! Here's the clean sketches for all the ones who go together, the rest I'll be posting as before, just random bunches of unrelated S/Is, uncolored until someone asks about them.
#Emile's Arts#Self Insert#Feel free to ask about any of these btw I've talked about all of them before#But now they're all New and to keep myself sane I won't color them unless someone shows interest in them#Because my coloring game is off recently kfjgkdfjg#Anyway!#I wanna thank everyone who follows this blog for hanging around#I know I go through weird bursts of creating a bunch and then reblogging a bunch with a few days of radio silence every here and there#So I wanna thank you for you patients and more importantly for your encouragement#When I started this redesign project and was posting just 4-5 unrelated S/Is at once I was always so excited to get asks about them#I really only ever want to do something if someone else is interested in it so my motivation waxes and wanes with what y'all interact with#So just. Thankyou for interacting so I can have the motivation to create!#It really has been an uplifting experience self inserting like this with y'all here with me#So thank you once again

Damn, a lesbian? I've always thought she was bi with a leaning towards women bc of the way she interacts with them and her obvious crushes on them too, lol. If she really is gay, then most likely Matthew isn't her real bf, right? Thats so wild, lol. Could you elaborate on why you think thats a plausible thing? She always says she crushes on 'people' so i'm assuming she also means guys.. (I'm a camilizer since 2016 and just now i'm really thinking about this stuff along with Camren.. Thankyou 💕)
“If she really is gay, then most likely Matthew isn’t her real bf, right?”
You can remove the “most likely” part. A gay woman, by definition, would not have a boyfriend.
Matthew is most definitely not Camila’s real boyfriend
“She always says she crushes on ‘people’ so i’m assuming she also means guys.”
“People”, “they”, “someone” etc are all gender unspecific neutral terms. You might want to do some introspection and self-reflection to understand why your mind automatically assumes that her choice of gender neutral terms means that she must also be attracted to guys.
“Thats so wild […] Could you elaborate on why you think thats a plausible thing?”
Sadly, it’s really not that wild at all. It’s a Hollywood epidemic.
There’s a lot of self-education and background reading required in order to learn and understand more about the inner workings of the entertainment industry and the Hollywood Public Relations (PR) machine. In order to better understand how media messages (think of everything related to Camila’s public image, including news articles, interviews, promotional footage, and anything posted on any of her social media acounts) are created and the intentions behind those messages, you should seek to develop your own media literacy. Here’s a YouTube CrashCourse on media literacy. Meanwhile, this Simon Cowell quote really drives home how digital mediums impact and are impacted by PR and marketing.

Paparazzi and the art of staging “candid” photos
A Paparazzo Explains How Staged Celebrity Photos Really Work
Here is another take on paparazzi, but specifically around staging couples photos to not look like staged photos (lols)
Backgrid are a professional photo agency that are called by their clients to come take staged “candid” photos of them. This is how Backgrid operates.
Now here are some breadcumbs to Backgrid’s early involvement at the start of Camila’s fake PR romance with Matthew
And here is someone’s breakdown of Camila’s paparazzi stats over the past year, illustrating the extent of Backgrid’s professional involvement with her PR team.
Here is a writeup around the underlying motivations for staging fake celebrity romances and the fake “candid” photos that are used to sell them.
Camila and the PR narratives
When it comes to analyzing PR as it has affected Camila both in the past (as a member of Fifth Harmony) as well as in the present, two really great blogs to go through are @emisonme and @decoding1432
Both have written some very good analyses on the PR stunts, PR narratives, and the underlying mechanisms of how fandoms are manipulated by PR.
I posted an answer to someone specifically asking about the manufactured PR narrative around Camila’s departure from Fifth Harmony, where I cited some specific posts written by @emisonme and @decoding1432
(This isn’t even all of the tea, btw)
Now at the end of all of this, if you still think “I dunno, I still think Matthew might be her real boyfriend” that’s entirely your own prerogative to think that. Your mind is your own after all.
Just know that this is who you think Camila is actually involved with:
a scam artist
an opportunistic emotional manipulator
a sexist pig
And it’s entirely up to you, the individual, to decide whether you want to believe in and subscribe to this fake celebrity PR romance narrative ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What’s a good way to give an OC a unique and distinct personality? All of your OCs are very unique, and I’d like some advice so that I can improve my OCs.
First of all, thankyou so much!! That means a lot to me! Secondly, I’ve been pondering a good way to answer this question for days since I got it. Perhaps I’ll write a longer one later, but for now I think these are good tips to keep in mind when trying to make a character feel like they have a personality. Flaw- Your character must have tangible flaw. Could be little, could be big, could be a flaw in the way that they handle situations, or how they perceive something about themselves that hinders them in some way in normal interactions. Big or small, characters with flaw immediately feel more relatable to me. As someone with a lot of flaw themselves, my characters usually have more than one. Your character must exist in the world outside of your important plot points- Think about your morning routine. I normally lay in bed like a waste of space for about a half hour before I can truly get up, I pace while I brush my teeth because I’m thinking. I spill Cheerios everywhere and usher the dog in to help cleanup. Your character must exist and have a life outside of the bombastic plot for them to really exist as a person. They need hobbies, and opinions and routines. Are they an early riser? Do they take care of themselves properly, do they have responsibilities outside of whatever external plot they are involved in. I try and give my characters as much of a life outside the plot that connects them as I can, that doesn’t mean I have to write it all down in excruciating detail, just picturing it, and factoring it in when I come up with their reactions for things usually does enough. But I think its worth it to picture what a day in the life of your character would look like.
Motivation: Sometimes it’s something really intangible, like chasing a feeling, or it could be a goal, to own something, to be someone ect. ect. As a person, I have big and small motivations. My big motivation is to someday be able to tell stories that resonate with people like stories did when I was a little kid and to like myself. My minor motivations for getting up in the morning is that I need to feed my cats lol Your characters don’t have to have big lofty motivations, but even characters who feel like they have no motivation at all WANT something. Sometimes they even want motivation, they want something to live and to strive for and maybe your character is looking for that. Explore what your character WANTS out of life. A View point: When I look back on my old characters, they all seem very one note, they all look different and have different personalities, but other than the surface differences none of the arguments between any of them made any sense. They all had MY viewpoints, and so, it was like a bunch of dolls fighting each other for the sake of spicy plot. Your characters can have views that are wrong, or misguided. They can be idealistic or nihilistic, but it needs to come from somewhere, their viewpoints need to be backed up with reasoning. Maybe your character doesn’t raise a hand to anyone even when they do to them because they want to believe in a world where trading blows doesn’t solve arguments. Or maybe your character has a certain view of a personality type because of past experiences, like being unable to handle overly optimistic people, and feeling like they are being drained of energy when having to be around hyper people. Your characters experiences and viewpoint should come into play when you write them in any interactions with other characters. They may not always be vocal about these opinions, but they should be there.
Lastly, observe people and the “WHY” game:
In animation we were taught to really observe other people, how they act, and why they act that way. Human nature is a crazy thing and if you are really interested in creating richly believable characters I think its important to look inwards to yourself and what makes up your character, as well as the characters of the people around you. What is so compelling about your friends that makes you continue to hang out with them. Do your personalities compliment each other? If they don’t, why, keep asking why until you cant anymore and you will have a fairly deep understanding of your character by the time you reach the end. X Character is frustrated a lot of the time. Why?Because her marks at school are often bad. Why?Because she doesn’t study and instead spends most of the given study time distracting herself and actively looking for ways to put it off and avoid thinking about it.Why?Because she hates the feeling of dread when a test is near, more than the actual test. Why?Because she feels she will disappoint herself by trying and still failing. Why?Because it feels less bad to not try and get the result you expected, than to try and to fail anyways. Because of this, X Character is often frustrated. Okay, Not the best example, but exploring your character by playing the Why game is what usually leads me to understanding my character, or being able to point out the places in my characters personality where there needs to be more information or experiences to play off of. I hope this was helpful and not just long ranting :’)

Activating the public
MIVOTE gives users the opportunity to engage with current political issues as they unfold, valuing the significance of individual voice in the now. Whilst Jacoby had been developing this idea of online democratic decisions for some time, the breaking point was the realization that the voice of his children was not recognised within the political sphere. The underlying cause of engagement or a lack thereof became a fundamental factor towards developing a platform that even those below the legal voting age could actively engage in. Jacoby (2019) states “everything about the way we interact has changed but government has not” referring to the evident need for political practices to adapt to the consistently changing climate of communication and engagement.
Whilst MIVOTE is not limited to engaging with a certain demographic, the nature of its use as an application makes a notable effort to connect with the emerging younger generation who have been born into a globalised world consistently pursuing technological advancements. Having not seen the app in action it is difficult to comment as to the efficiency of its use, however I would be interested to see how much traction it gained within the political realm and whether politicians utilised the public’s effort to engage as ‘stakeholders’ in a decision making process.
The linked video below outlines the way in which MIVOTE has utilised the power of ‘gaming’ to create revenue, further appealing to the younger generation to get involved with changing the nature of Australian democracy. Although the funding goal to launch MIVOTE has not yet been reached, the emergence of the concept as redefining democracy has certainly created a broader conversation. As noted by Armstrong and Hagel (2000); “the value of participating in a community lies in user’s ability to access a broad range of people and resources quickly and easily”; which, according to Jacoby, seems to be the driving force behind MIVOTE capturing user attention by inviting users to engage through personal devices.

MIVOTE, 2017
I have referred to the notion of Castells (2011) in previous posts, that “communication shapes culture”, which is invariably the motivation for engaging with a younger audience so as to shape a culture of informed individuals that can actively participate in decision making processes in real time. Looking back to last week’s case study on the Thankyou, the conversation that the organisation is creating through communicating the direct outputs stemming from product purchases which in turn has the potential to change the ‘culture’ of giving.

2018- Goals
So this is kind of important to me, and i know you guys will be very supportive and help me kind of achieve some of these
So today at Church I was thinking about how i didn’t make a 2017 resolution really at all. and to be honest, I never have, I always approached those with such a cynical attitude that It just never happened. However, this year I really want to better myself in these 4 categories (actually 5 but a lot of my spiritual one is not on here )
1) I want to exercise more, I know clique however, i didn’t exercise AT ALL, so anything will be an improvement, I want to at least go on the treadmill 30 minuets a day (1 hour while i’m on break). And if i can push myself to do that for at least a month, that will make a habbit of it, which will be a lot harder to break
2) I want to read more. This entire year (aside from Audio books) i’ve not read a single book, which is terrible, I want to read more, so I decide to dedicate one hour a day to reading , and bring back my reading before bed (or writing depending on my mood)
3) I want to write more. Writing is so important to me, and I really really want to improve as a writer and actually write a book. So my goal is to write and publish a book this year, but write something every day. it can be as small as a poem, or a huge 10 part fanfiction, anything, but i’m hoping with reading i’ll be able to get an idea i can call my own and make that into a story that people will be excited about.
4) Last but not least, drawing. I already kind of do this , but now i can kind of feel like it’s an accomplishment XD. I want to draw something every day. By drawing consistently, you improve , which is something I want to do, so if you guys know of a 365 drawing challenge either online or on youtube , let me know.
Now I know this sounds like a lot but i’m telling myself that i can mesh some together. Like if i am listening to an audio book, I can draw while I do that, or I can listen to a book while exercising. I’m also creating a check list so that I can feel some accomplishment while doing it. As for writing and drawing, If anything is Jesse related, I will post them on here, I might make a instagram or something for all of it. But i’m very motivated, I’m going to be more confident in myself and God, I want to rely more on him and say yes to more opportunities that may scare me ( like being a mentor to 5 Junior High girls) or to a new job opportunity that is a sales job. I want to improve myself as a person because I can get so lazy when I let myself cut corners and i’m sick of it. I believe with you guys helping me, and my friends and family, I can make this an incredibly year.
Thankyou to all of you who have stuck around with me for the past 2 years , I can’t believe it’s been that long and I didn’t even know my blog would get this big. Like with a lot of my blogs I start them and Don’t make any original content, but with this one I always feel so inspired, and I know even If people have a slight interest in Jesse and his work that they’ll enjoy my content. I never thought I’d get people saying that they love my work so much that it made them cry, or that a stupid # I made up off the top of my head would be chanted in a public place XD All the friends i’ve made on here and the entire house i’ve made up where I can interact with these character is incredible. And the fact that for a present From the guys, “they gave me” a writing studio in this house, while i was writing that i think from Eric perspective, I almost made myself cry, because I realized how much I wanted to write again, to give life to characters of my own and just create worlds. Anyways this got very off track. All in all, thankyou guys for sticking around and I hope that this year is amazing for all of you.
Also if you read all of this you have a special place in my heart. Love you guys Happy New Year!

Here is my second question: Which you answered as a message to me. Can I ask another question? If I can, then here it is - What aspect of storytelling is most challenging for you? How did you overcome it, if you did? Or what strategies you employ to get yourself to write and face that challenge. #thankyou #asks #yay
Yes of course!! (and omg did i really? #fail)
Smut.
Smut was without a doubt the hardest worst most challenging aspect of writing when I started writing fic, and even harder as an aspect of storytelling. I had no training in it, no idea what I was doing, and a very keen awareness of all the things that could go terribly, mockably wrong. Trying to write it felt roughly equivalent to tweezing my eyebrows in a room full of hungry mosquitos.
How to make it unawkward? How to keep track of the body parts and positions? What to call things? How to make it read smoothly? How to make it hot? How to make it *do* something and not feel awkwardly shoe-horned in for the purposes of that reader-attracting Explicit rating? (I have some feelings about those incentive/that whole train of thought but that’s another post.) Because if I was going to put myself through learning to write it, I’d be twice dammed if I didn’t learn to make it good in every possible sense.
I’m stubborn like that.
I would like to think I overcame it and the very lovely reaction to Endowment suggests I am not totally wrong, so here’s what I did:
1) found smut I really admired and read it over and over and absolutely took it apart to figure out what made it work in or as a story. Read different authors’ smut side-by-side for commonalities and differences. Came up with a working mental list of things I thought made smut work as part of a story.
2) combined that with a good long think about what I think sex can and cannot accomplish in human interactions and what purposes it therefore could and could not serve in fiction, and came up with a basic list of things I want smut in my work to do, like:
reveal someone’s motivations or state of mind
reflect the dynamic of the larger story (even if it’s a PWP and therefore not all on the page, it’s part of one)
reveal something about the people having the sex that could not be revealed through speech (maybe they say they’ve forgiven and trust each other, but are their eyes open or closed while they’re having sex and why?)
create a sense for the presence or absence of intimacy in a relationship (or for a person’s ability or inability to experience intimacy)
potentially forward the plot in some way (raising the stakes, cementing a bond, allowing for catharsis/letting the tension, creating a point of crisis, etc.)
turning the reader on (this last one is not at all universally held among writers and I know some who don’t like to consider that bit, so this is not to say that you should go tell writers that you’ve gotten off on their work, but for me personally being aware, in a generally abstract hypothetical way, of that possibility helps make the smut and smut-writing better)
(2a) I think it really really helps, if possible, to think about the very broad array of things that sex *can* and *does* do in human interactions rather than getting caught up in hand-wringing about what sex *should* (or shouldn’t) do in human interactions. Regardless of whether you think people only *should* have happy fluffy loved-up gentle monogamous tender sex with partners who fit within certain parameters (or should only have kinky rough emotionless sex with strangers) it is a true fact of the world that people have sex with all kinds of people and in all kinds of ways and for all kinds of reasons, and that sexual desire (or lack thereof) isn’t a separate thing from who we (or are characters) are. People who are scared, desperate, tired, angry, vengeful, callous, etc. have sex that reflects and enacts those feelings. People who are ill or injured have sex that reflects those experiences. People have sex that isn’t fluffy or tender or monogamous for a host of reasons that are very much about intimacy and closeness and understanding and emotion. People have sex that is fluffy and tender and monogamous and that can have all sorts of underlying feelings attached. People have sex that is mind-blowing and electric and full of chemistry and feelings. People also have sex that’s boring and rote, and sex that’s about one thing while attempting to appear to be about a different thing. People, in my experience, very rarely (compared to fic, anyway) have sex with people they barely know or former sworn enemies, particularly in office settings, but maybe I just need some different experiences idk. tl;dr: a mismatch between your smut and your characters/plot is going to make for a strange read. And strange morals and sexual ethics, if that’s something you care about.)
3) Did some research. It had been a minute (by which I mean several years) since I’d engaged with a penis and I was not really prepared to write accurately about them. (there is a scene in If Memory Serves where they have semi-clothed sex over a table and I legit agonized about how testicles would work in that scenario) So I googled and read guides and asked friends who I knew were chill about and up for talking about personal experiences with sex and bodies and scrutinized gifs for a while and read guides for and by gay men (many of which counter common fic scripts about sex, which I still find tricky to navigate but that’s also another post). It was not very different from research I’ve done about other things, except for not being able to do it in public.
4) Practiced describing bodies having sex. Not just randomly! But in the course of writing stories with smut. ngl this was a slog. Just lots of drafting and letting it sit and re-drafting and trying to laugh at the misplaced elbows and whatnot. I tried listening to music and that sort of helped (and I think the right music can be really instructive for writing good smut, in terms of how to pace things, how to create build-up, where to bring things up and take them down, how to get a good rhythm going, etc.), but mostly it was just a slog for a while.
5) thought about how I could write smut in ways that would feel less like a slog, how I could take this particularly hard part of writing and combine it with things that played to my strengths/could be combined with things I enjoyed as a reader and writer (strong personalities, emotion, intensity, dialogue) and avoided things I disliked as a reader and writer (long mechanical descriptions, staring at gifs of balls)
6) went back to #1 and thought about what made smut work mechanically, like:
careful POV choice
reflecting the moment in structural decisions about things like sentence and word length (essential for rhythm)
giving scenes a particular purpose or focus and using that as an anchor
taking word choice seriously (there’s a difference between a cock, a dick, a prick, a penis, a willy, and all the millions of horrible euphemisms people use. meat swords and whatnot. it is easy to want to blow this off bc it’s words for dicks, but there is a meaningful difference between saying that someone is sucking cock and sucking penis (or giving head, or giving a blow job) and the words you choose say something about your characters and their perspective, and therefore matter a lot)
focusing on desire, sensations, emotions, and reactions instead of mechanics
7) practiced. The unavoidable and most necessary. But better after #s 4 and 5, and when in scenarios that were about using smut to tell different sorts of stories or to story-tell in new ways, and when I was focused on combining it with the things I most enjoy writing.
8) had a really good beta who understood what I wanted the sex to do and told me whether or not it I was accomplishing that, and who was willing and able to be candid about what wasn’t working and tell me so. And I was, and had to be, willing to hear all that feedback and change things, from moving an elbow to rewriting entire scenes.
That’s more than you may have bargained for (and I have approx 90 more tangents about smut and fic and fandom that I am barely containing) but tbh I think the same basic process applies to any aspect of writing someone is trying to improve:
Read things you like
Think about what you like about them
Take them apart technically
Research as needed
Practice
Find ways of practice that you can enjoy and invest in
Get trusted feedback
Take trusted feedback seriously
Remember that it is never perfect, but that it does get better
Keep practicing
