dunno what kind of car liking audience is here but fuck it i want to talk about my car

bought this little dude off craigslist for a grand it was the best money ive ever spent. didnt really know anything about saturn before buying this (or how to drive stick lol) but when i saw this ugly/cute brown blobs listing i knew it was the one. it had 344k miles on it then but that didnt turn me off, i had to have it. brought it home on a trailer and its been lovely, dependable to a fault and fun to drive to boot. it just hit 360k and is going strong as ever.

its been quite the learning experience too, in addition to it being my first car it saw me go from someone who liked cars but didnt know how they worked to a full time mechanic partly on the skills i gained replacing the odd part here and there on it.

im just so happy with it. if i suddenly got a ton of money i wouldnt replace it with anything, id just treat it to a full mechanical refresh and some new paint cause i love it so much. it is exactly the amount of car i want and need, no more no less.

its also been the catalyst for me and my bf to become basically saturn historians, as since the brand died almost a decade and a half ago knowledge on these things (and parts!) are becoming somewhat hard to find. we've also started collecting various saturn things like this lil fella who is now my second most prized possesion

After 19 hours ingame and taking a long break (of several months), I finally beat Sister Friede at SL1!

just killed Thorne Duo on sl1 I need to ramble

this fight was the hardest so far by a huge margin and forced me to learn basically every move they have

the duo has a main combo (that can be extended to up to 3 swings) an overhead slam and a stab attack

I even got the extremely rare missile move from the watcher once, she used that move exactly one time in hundreds of attempts I've done so it's gotta be rare

despite the moves being shared they execute them in unique ways, the main combo of the defender is slower and can be easily ducked under or strafed while watcher is faster and gets moved forward by her attacks so best strategy for me was dodging behind her (as long as you're not dodging into the defender's swing)

the slam for defender is a slow but powerful attack that can be tricky to distinguish from the regular swing, which is important because regular swing can be ducked under while slam cannot, meanwhile watcher's slam is a jump attack that's easily avoided and easily punished but it's surprisingly rare

the stab for defender is so rare I only saw it maybe 5 times total so I don't have a strategy for that but it's so slow you don't really need to worry, meanwhile watcher spams her running stab like crazy every time you leave her alone for a while: best bet is to just roll in whatever direction you were already going to avoid turning around

in the winning attempt I got them both to half health and then simply ran around the arena, fishing for completely safe opportunities to attack and waiting for their resins to run out (they only have 2 each and they last surprisingly short, maybe 30 or 45 seconds if I had to guess but nearly double their damage)

I then killed the defender, as watcher's resin ran out, and camped his corpse, it seems they won't attempt to resurrect each other as long as you're close enough to the body, the rest of the fight was a blur as my brain kept screaming "don't choke don't choke don't choke" because I've been at this fight for hours now

if there was 1 change I made about this fight it's adding a bonfire right outside the for door, on the square platform with summon signs, I've spent about 40% of my time with this boss on simply waiting for the stupid door and running across the stone bridge.

this was my loadout: which explains all the talk about ducking as the hammer's heavy attack actually makes your character duck in the process

the Old Knight's hammer has to be my favourite weapon in general: huge damage, decent reach, surprisingly ok speed and stamina cost, the only problem is the vessel shield gives 1 less ADP than the ladle, meaning the mad warrior mask is actually necessary to cross the 92 agility threshold, also the weight and 1 less ring slot are a pain and durability is crap but man, this damage and moveset make it more than worth it in my opinion

I had like 120bpm by the end of this fight, which is why I HAD to talk about it note: the hammer is maxed and 2handed, the dragon ring is Third but chloranthy is +1 because fuck the chariott fight

what is ur opinion on these two goobers (2000 Saturn SL1, 2005 VW Jetta TDI wagon)

Freaking love Saturn! It was a lovely experiment (and apparently a cool workplace!) and it's a shame it died the way it did. I also love those headlights for reasons I cannot seem to wrap my head around.

Conversely, for the Mk4 Golf/Jetta (I'm pretty sure that in Europe the sedan was called a Jetta but the wagon took the name from the hatchback and not the sedan) I have always struggled to feel anything about. Good cars, don't get me wrong, well designed, it's just the spark isn't there. This not to say I've a grudge with early-00s VW! The Lupo is one of my favorite citycars and I still marvel at how well the Passat design aged. But the Golf/Jetta? Eh. Do love the cute little passenger mirror tho (ever noticed how much smaller it is than the driver's?).
