Tulip field near LaConner, Washington, 2005.
Had planned to be in the Pacific Northwest during April this year, but events make a delay to June or later necessary. No chance in 2024 to see the tulip fields in their glory, alas.

A little touch of color for the gloomiest part of winter.

Another favorite from my desk rock collection (doesn’t everyone have a bowl of desk rocks?). This was found in Washington state, likely somewhere in skagit county. I’m not awesome on IDs but I think it’s two types of granite? I’d love to hear from folks with a better grasp on what’s what. I’ve always loved the differences in texture and how thin the layer of white granite was.

i really wish the satellite/aerial imagery of oil refineries was better. these companies are profiting hundreds of millions per month and they all seem to run the same janky-ass operation with huge lots of junked vehicles and trailers; crooked, unpaved roads; heaps of casks and canisters and containers rusting away. i mean is limiting the public to a flat and grainy image really an issue of national security, or is it more national embarrassment / we might spot something actually sketchy happening on these huge properties if we could see what was going on?
