Wednesday 17th April 2024
When dawn broke one could see the lights of Mossel Bay across the water, but as the sun came up, the mist started to come down. I guess that's just the way it is there. We had a quick breakfast, loaded the stuff into the VW, bade our farewells to this strange property, the sea front and the parrots and hit the road; this time the N2 bound for George. In all we expected roughly 3 hours elapsed time of motoring, but we intended to call in at Knysna; a town everyone seems to know and tell us we need to go to, but a place no-one seems to be sure about what's there. Anyway, we headed to the Waterfront which seemed a good starting point and were soon fixed up with an extremely palatable coffee and chocolate croissant. Most acceptable I'd say.
This part of the coast is firmly into the Garden Route, and our journey onwards East confirmed that the scenery is absolutely fabulous. Green, lush vegetation, tree clad mountains and picturesque lakes. Through Wilderness and on to Pine Lake which lay so still, not a ripple, it was just content to sit there all day reflecting the mountain behind. Soon we were passing the sign which declared we were now officially in the Eastern Cape.
We lunched in Plettenberg Bay, a comly little place designed very much for holiday makers. We fitted right in there and found a seat overlooking the beach which was full of happy families with designated tasks of building sandcastles. We left the VW in the good care of a carpark attendant, and in the age old tradition, by passing silver from one palm to the other, no harm would come to the car.
Life guards were nervously watching the bay and the swimmers. At one point everyone was called out of the water. Great Whites have been spotted recently and are, we are told, more likely April onwards. Hmm. Didn't see one but I'm sure he saw us!
Now we asked Mr Avis, taxi drivers all sorts, are there any toll roads in South Africa/ Garden Route? Oh no they all said. We don't have tolls. Well as soon as we plotted our route on Google to Jeffrey's Bay there it was, toll road. Don't you just know it. Anyway, we have plenty of spare change and this route saved us an hour, so we set off. Through forest, hill and dale we drove on an empty road, empty because you have to pay I guess. Anyway, we pulled into the booth, produced our R200 note and the girl said, oh, you don't have to pay. No explanation that we could understand, but we were free to go!
This is an interesting country. Clearly when a job needs doing, a white man calls for a black man. Mornings and evenings we see pickup trucks going back and forth picking up and dropping off teams of men and taking them to where the work is; often lawn maintenance, general building and in volume, road maintenance. They crowd into the backs of these vehicles often from pickup points along the roads. Archaic maybe but it seems to work. In its defence there seems a distinct attempt to create jobs even if it is so menial and perhaps unnecessary. For instance, people manually sweeping sand off a path by the beach or standing waving or holding limply a red flag near to roadworks. The sad thing is that they often seem to come out of the shanty towns on the outskirts of rather affluent white towns. We cannot judge as it's not our culture, but it is a little disconcerting.
We passed one such shanty town made up of rows and rows of tiny corrugated iron boxes, and I'm ashamed to say, were relieved when we crossed a river and into an area called Paradise Beach where we are lodged in a luxurious little house on stilts for the next three days.
ps We popped out for an evening meal at a restaurant recommended by our host. It could not be closer to the sea if it tried; the floor was sand! I had an excellent tuna steak and Martine a lamb shank but cooked in an amazing South African set of spices unknown. Absolutely delicious. The whole thing with tips and alcohol was less than £29!
pps over 31°C today.
ppps there was a malicious campaign afoot on the toll road into here disparaging the rights to baboons having a square meal. Big signs, Do Not Feed the Baboons. Fine for doing so, R500. Well we didn't see a single baboon along the 60k section hungry or otherwise.

Word Count: 2.2k
"Fuck Finally", You sighed stretching your arms taking in a deep breath of the salty air around you. You were finally standing on the sand of your dream place, Hawai.
You wanted to visit this island ever since you were a child but due to your family's financial condition you could not plan much of a vacation but luckily after graduation you found yourself a stable job and now managed to plan a week long trip to this beautiful place.
You unlock your phone searching for a specific address to start your trip with the activity which you looked forward to the most.
Your taxi drops you at your destination. Taking in a deep breath, you walked through the small gate into what seemed like a bar-restaurant. Unsure of the place, you check the address again– you were at the right place.
"Uhm excuse–", You're taken aback for a second, "I was here for a bike–", Your sentence sounded more of a question as you mentally face palmed yourself for being so confused as well as wonderstruck by the visuals of the man standing in front of you.
"Don't worry you are not at the wrong place we just opened a bar at the front side", He assured you, noticing the doubt in your voice, "follow"
He leads you through another door and now you can see all the motorbikes displayed of different models and different colours.
"Name?", he asks, typing something in the laptop, "Y/N", You reply turning to him allowing yourself to notice a few of his features. A silver lip ring decorated the side of his lower lip which he unconsciously bit as he typed in your name. The black tank top hugged his body, his toned biceps covered with tattoos on display making you feel some kind of warmth.
"Oh so you're the friend Lix was talking about", He looks at you as you nod again, "yeah Felix and I work together", you explain.
"Are you free tonight?", You didn't understand where you got such confidence from. Maybe the men smoking weed outside did have some effect on you but you asked him without thinking and had an instant wash of regret when you thought he might be dating someone.
A sly smirk formed on his face he licked his lip giving you a glance of jwell adorning his tongue.
"Not even gonna ask my name?", he raised his eyebrow, fuck you really are that desperate
"You can tell me now–?", The embarrassment on your face was clear as you cursed yourself in your mind, took you one good looking dude to screw it all up.
"Hyunjin", He let out a small chuckle, "There is actually a beach party tonight if you're interested", he continued, "oh alright then", You let out a smile
____
You cursed at yourself again. You didn't ask him where the party was exactly. It really just took one fucking guy for you to lose it all
"Hey what are you doing here? Is there a problem with the bike?", Hyunjin asked with concern , not expecting you to show up again for the day. "No uhm-", you shake your head as a blush crept your cheeks seeing him shirtless and just black sweatpants,, "I just forgot to ask you where exactly was this beach party so I–", You tried to explain yourself without sounding flustered or distracted by his toned abs and well built chest. "You are so cute", Hyunjin chuckled as you felt a ticklish sensation in your stomach
"Give me 10 minutes", He goes back inside and as promised be shows up, his long dark hair dripping wet, a loose black full sleeve shirt paired with black basketball shorts. He wasn't much dressed up but still managed to look hot.
"I was kinda expecting you to show up in a Hawaiian shirt not gonna lie", You laugh as he rolled his eyes playfully taking your hand leading you out.
"Let's take the harley", You point at your bike handing him the keys. As the engine started, a bit of hesitation took over you as you weren't sure if he would like you holding on to him.
"Don't forget to hold me tight, Princess", He answered your unasked question while using a nickname which yet again made you blush as you wrapped your arms around him. He smelled expensive, a bit like vanilla mixed with weed and being honest it wasn't bad.
The beach shone with neon lights as few groups of people were already swaying with the music. "Wow", You mumble, earning a small chuckle from Hyunjin, "It's actually a hotel, you see those huts?", He pointed at the small huts a distance, "My uncle owns the hotel so I get free rooms and free parties", You both find a place to sit as he passes you a bottle of alcohol.
"So your whole family lives here?", You ask while taking a sip of the bitter drink, "No, my whole family lives in South Korea but I spend most of my time here helping out my uncle", he explains.
Maybe it was the drink, or the moon lighting up the sky which took out the next sentence of your lips, "Do you wanna try an underwater kiss?", A visible shock was to be seen in Hyunjin's eyes at how straight forward you were but soon it was replaced with a certain excitement as he got up taking your hand leading you to the sea.
"You sure?", His studies you as you nod, "fuck yeah", you drag him into the waters and soon both of you are holding your breath under the crystal salt water.
Hyunjin, still holding your hand, pulls you closer as you attach your lips against his, both of your bodies swirling with the waves.
"That was romantic", You laugh still holding his hand walking back to the sand. "It was hot", he ruffled his black locks, spraying a bit of water on you as well.
You hold back your steps making him stop as well. "Hyunjin", You softly whisper holding his gaze with yours, "Y/N", He too whispers back but with a bit of confusion. Your gaze lingers on his lips which don't go out of his notice, "Can I?", You lean a bit in but he answers your question by pulling you in, his one hand slid around your waist with another cupping your cheek as his lips moved against yours.
His kiss was soft but needy as his hand slowly moved down resting on your ass pulling you closer as you felt him through his now wet shorts.
Forgetting about your whole environment, you interlock your fingers in his hair tugging it with just enough pressure to make him moan in your mouth.
"I want you", He pulls back, his silver lip ring glistening with spit, his lips plump and swollen, "all yours".
Leading you to one of the huts, which you guessed as hotel rooms, he kissed you again as soon as the door was locked. This time it was rough as his teeth sank in your lip giving you a taste of the metal adorned on his lip as well as his tongue. You could feel a bit of warm drool dripping down your chin as Hyunjin found his way down your jaw placing open mouth kisses, a small whine leaving your lips.
"fuck", You felt his teeth sinking on the soft skin of your neck that you knew would be leaving a mark. But he didn't stop there continuing up till your cleavage where the only reason he stopped was cause your top interfered in between.
"You had your fun it seems", You smile pushing him onto the bed, the confusion in his eyes soon replacing with amusement as you took off your top and got down on your knees. You play with his waist band just to push his buttons a small hiss leaving his lips, "don't fucking tease me, baby". You let out a small giggle before finally sliding down his shorts along with his boxers allowing his cock to spring out. He wasn't ridiculously big but still big enough to make you wonder if you would actually be able to take him.
You started out with small kitty licks pumping the rest with your hand. Hyunjin lets out a low groan as his hand holds up your hair. Not getting enough with your teasing, his grip on hair gets tighter as he forces your mouth to take him in, startling you just for a second before you let him set a pace. "Such a good girl", as the praise leaves his lips you feel your wetness in between your legs and it wasn't because of the sea. Tears escape your eyes as he relentlessly fucks your mouth, low moans leaving his lips, his half lidded eyes enjoying the state you were in with your spit dripping down the dark bruises decorating your chest, him being the cause of all of it.
You could feel his dick twitching as he bucked his hip, releasing in your mouth, his movement slowing down allowing you to pull back with a pop sound. You locked your eyes with his, swallowing his release as his hand grips your jaw, his lips against yours once again as he tastes himself through you. "You fucking swallow every guy you meet?", He whispered in between the kiss as you shake your head, "only you"
A small chuckle leaves his lips as he slightly pushes you down on the mattress. Pulling down your skirt along with your lace panties, he lets your white top, which became translucent due to being wet stay as it turned him on seeing your hardened nipples poking out due the lack of your bra. He takes a moment to appreciate your body, your smudged mascara along with your messy hair, as your eyes tired but still filled with lust stared back at him, your plump lips curved up in a smirk. Everything about you seemed so perfect.
Without wasting any more time Hyunjin went straight down, planting wet open-mouthed kisses along your inner thighs, sucking harshly in between forcing a needy whine out of your lips.
"Hyunie please", You whisper, unable to keep up with his teasing, you wanted him to release your desperation. "So needy, princess", He chuckled against your skin, his breath tickling you a bit. A loud moan left your lips as he finally licked a stripe of your folds, the cold metal on his tongue adding more to the pleasure. "Fuck, please don't stop", Your fingers pull him closer to your heat, your grip on his hair sudden and strong making him moan at the slight painful feeling sending vibrations down your nerves making you arch your back as he forced your legs open. "So fucking filthy are you", He pulls back, his lips glistening with your fluids as he slowly oozes in two of his fingers making your wall clench around him. "That's it please don't stop", you let out a broken sob, mixed with your moan that you weren't even sure if he heard you correct. He hadn't even properly fucked you and yet you were already going dumb for him, a man you only met a few hours ago. His thumb circled your clit applying just the correct pressure as his fingers continued to slide in and out of you. The knot in your stomach became more vivid but before you could be undone, Hyunjin pulled out, a frustrated cry leaving your lips as you opened your eyes meeting his smug face as he sucked off his own fingers enjoying the taste of you.
"You're gonna come on my dick, my love", he whispered his lips ghosting over your jaw as his fingers wrapped around your neck. "Look at me", His voice was commanding as you struggled to keep your eyes open while he stretched your walls. This wasn't your first time but it had been so long since your last intercourse that the unusual pain still caused a few tears to roll down your cheeks, "aw my baby", Hyunjin's thumb wiped off a tear as he gave you a few seconds to adjust. "You know if you want me to stop, I will right", He reminded you as you shook your head, "but I don't want you to stop", you mumble, his lips finding yours again as he slowly begins to move making you moan in between the kiss. As he sets a pace the grip of his fingers around your neck too becomes tighter keeping you at loss of breath. "Fuck, so fucking tight", Hyunjin moans as he shuts his eyes, your walls continuously clenching around him providing him the right amount of sensations, "you take me so well", his grip around your neck loosens as you feel him chasing his high, increasing his pace enough to make you feel your orgasm approaching, "baby, I'm so close", You whine, "Then fucking come on me, Princess", He continues to hit all the right spot as you come undone, your vision going blur as your head falls back into the mattress a broken moan leaving your lips as he continues to overstimulate you, "come inside me, Hyunie", You mumble as his pace slows down and you then feel the warm fluid painting your walls, some of it dripping down as he pulls out of you. "Hyunie huh?", Hyunjin lays down beside you repeating the nickname you had just called him, "well did I say anything about the princess", You snuggle in, as he plays with your hair.
This wasn't exactly how you planned your vacation to be, but after all who are you to complain.
"You wanna do round 2?"—

I wish you would write a fic where Ben and Joe go on holiday together. As a couple or as friends with feelings for each other.
Because I am unlike any sane person who answer asks normally, here you go, a 4K+ word count answer.
One Year Of Love
Joe and Ben found out early on in their friendship that they like travelling together. They make compatible travel buddies; Joe would do the research and Ben would plan the heck out of the trip down to the details and both of them try as much as they can to get everything to work out according to their plan and following their schedule. So far, they have successfully done so each time, until they decided to go to Morocco. They’ve been to almost all European and American destinations that they had wanted to see together, so they decided that the next downtime they have would be the best time to branch out a little, see new places. They had a few countries in mind, but ultimately chose Morocco for obvious reasons (“Casablanca!” Joe said, being the biggest fan of old, classical films), but after much research, they decided ultimately that they would go to Agadir, because Ben loves seaside towns and beaches.
“Do you know that Agadir’s weather is like LA’s?” Joe asked without looking away from his phone.
“No way,” Ben said after swallowing his food. “We’ve picked the perfect place.”
So when they got to Agadir and realized that the chill seaside town is exactly what it is; laid back and operates on its own concept of time, they met their first stumbling block. Their taxi was late, their room not ready for checking in. But the people smiled and carried on as if there’s nothing inherently wrong with a little tardiness here and there. “People around here are really that chill, huh?” Joe recognized the hint of irritation in Ben’s voice instantly. He’s tired. They both were. So he distracted the blonde by dragging him to the rooftop patio of their hotel, where it is also a lounge cafe during the day and a bar at night.
“The sunset here is going to be amazing, don’t you think?”
And Joe was right. They spent the evening looking at the amazing view from the rooftop before going along and around the promenade on a rented scooter, Joe at the front and Ben with his arms around Joe’s waist. They returned to their hotel when it’s pretty late, but the seafront never sleeps, it seems. They stayed out because it’s a shame not to do so, the sound of waves in their ears and night sky lit with stars and a silver crescent moon as they sipped wine and talked quietly and share comfortable silences as they tend to do whenever they are alone in each other’s company.
Morocco is both everything and nothing they had expected it to be; it’s breathtaking and different, quaint and modern, quiet and bustling. They explored the kasbah during the day, went through the restored ruins and returned to the promenade on the second evening, this time staying out longer to enjoy the nightlife. They went hiking at the Paradise Valley, taking in the view of square mudbrick houses and almond trees and olive orchards along the way. Joe had fallen in love with Moroccan mint tea, and even Ben, who isn’t a tea drinker, found himself liking its fresh and charming taste. They, or Ben in particular, had quickly forgotten the initial wariness towards the local’s warped sense of time and tendency to be over-friendly and inquisitive towards tourists. Partly because Joe is very good at handling both the situation and Ben in times like this, and partly because Morocco breathes its old magic everywhere and into everyone who sets foot on its soil. It’s impossible not to be lulled into its spell, as if they’ve drifted out of their lives into a completely different existence, especially as they make their way to Ouarzazate. Moroccan’s Little Hollywood. Games of Throne season 3, Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator and a long list of Hollywood movies were shot there, according to Joe’s research. Joe is driving.
“I feel like--” he started.
“No, don’t say it,” Ben tried stopping him.
“--what, my inner Daenarys is coming out.” Ben groaned and Joe laughed.
When they stopped en route at Taroudant, they walked into the souq. Ben hasn’t stopped taking pictures since morning. He must have taken hundreds of pictures for the last few days, maybe thousands. Joe navigated the way, and they stopped by at a cafe to have mint tea. They--no, Joe--struck a conversation with a couple in their twenties, they’re from France and travelling on a tight budget, so Joe offered them a ride, which they gratefully accepted. They drove on to Taliouine, where they stopped by to try the freshly-made saffron tea, and it’s like no other. Joe bought some saffron stored in dark glass jar for his mom from the local seller before driving on to Ouarzazate, arriving at their riad late in the afternoon. The couple stayed at a budget place nearby, but Joe asked them to join him and Ben for a dip in the riad’s outdoor pool, and dinner later. They talked late into the night before parting ways, and later on as they were lying down on their respective beds in their room, Ben was about to fall asleep when Joe suddenly turned on his stomach and called his name. He told Ben the guy, Louis, told him earlier that he will propose to his girlfriend, Chloe, at the end of their Moroccan trip.
“That’s sweet.” Ben said, yawning.
“Get ready to be invited, if things go well for him.”
“What?”
“I exchanged phone numbers and emails with them.” Ben would have laughed if he wasn’t too sleepy.
“We could have another trip to the French countryside.”
Ben hummed an affirmative noncommittally.
Joe continued, “You know what’s funny?”
“What?”
“Chloe asked me if we’re together.”
There’s a pause before Ben says, “Oh.”
“Anyway, not the first time.” Joe turned to lie down on his back again. “Good night, honey.”
“Asshole.”
“Sleep tight, don’t let the bed bug bite.”
“Shut up, Joe.”
It’s dark but Ben thought he could see Joe grinning. He turned away to face the wall, closed his eyes, but it took him a long time to finally fall asleep.
The next day Ben let Joe slept in as he got up early to jump into the pool, work himself a little before eating breakfast. He ate quickly. One of the older and friendlier staff that Joe had struck a conversation with the evening before, approached him and asked about Joe in broken English. When Ben told him that he’s still asleep, the staff asked if they could send breakfast upstairs for him and Ben thanked him for the kind gesture, endlessly amused by the fact that no matter where Joe goes, he always manages to get people to spoil him.
“Wake up sleepyhead, we’re exploring the citadel today.”
Joe grunted, nodded and sat up, eyes still closed.
“Still tired?”
Joe nodded. Ben sighed.
“Want to sleep in a little bit more?”
Joe shook his head.
“They’ll send your breakfast upstairs.” When Joe neither moved nor made any sound, Ben called his name. He turned his face to Ben’s direction, eyes still closed. He’s pouting a little.
What a baby, Ben thought, but he kind of like this Joe. At least he’s quiet. “Try to wake yourself up while I got our stuff ready for the day.”
Exploring the citadel turned out to be one of the most fun they had as they endlessly struck poses reminiscent of movies they could recognize were filmed there. There were lots of silly ones, especially the ones with Joe and his ‘inner Daenarys’ coming out. They spent the entire morning there, and as the afternoon got unbearably hot, they returned to the riad to soak themselves in the cool water of the pool. Ben let his body float, buoyed by the gentle swaying of the water as Joe submerged himself completely under. His body was rocked by more pronounced swaying as Joe came up and out of the water.
“I could get used to this.” Ben said.
“The pool?” Joe asked.
“And the palm and olive trees. Cool water, hot afternoon, desert heat. All this.”
They spent the evening relaxing, enjoying dinner with wine before turning in early, they would have to be up by dawn to leave for the Sahara desert. That early in the day, the desert is windy and cold, and Ben made sure Joe is properly layered and covered for the journey, using his experience on location in Dubai, filming in the Arabian desert, to good use. As the day breaks and got hotter they lose the layers, which they would need again later at night. Their Berber travel guides made sure their journey went smoothly. They passed by Draa Valley where there are more kasbahs to be seen, palm groves and a village where pottery-making is the mainstay.
They arrived at the camp where they’re staying for the night as the sun set; it’s set up like nomadic tents fit for ancient royals. There’s clean water, delicious food, more wine and Berber traditional drum beats, conversation with fellow travellers. Joe practiced some of the Berber phrases he learned, much to their guides’ delight. As expected, a little bit of wine was all the encouragement he needed to start joining the Berbers and their tribal desert music, moving in time with the drum beats as Ben watched on with a smile on his face. He’s happy, contented and possibly a little bit in love.
The wine and the desert night must have gotten to my head, he told himself.
The bonfire crackled and shone golden-red on Joe. Ben thought the older man looked darkly ethereal, and he’s ready to fall beyond in love with him, ready to go right into the fire. The desert was magic, Joe its sorcerer. And Ben was spellbound.
As the night got deeper and colder they slept under the tent, cozy and warm under their blankets. The bonfire kept on burning. Ben wanted to know if he would still be under the desert's spell when he wakes up tomorrow.
“Ben.” It’s Joe. “Did you drink too much wine last night?” He could hear the tch-tch in his voice, but there were also fingers in his hair, rubbing his scalp, and he almost purred in sheer, unadulterated happiness. Everything is dim, almost dark. “Don’t want to miss the desert sunrise now, do we?” For a moment, he didn’t understand what was happening. And why was his head so heavy and foggy? He was holding on to something warm and soft, an arm and a leg thrown over it almost possessively, and he didn’t want to let go--
--until he realized it’s Joe that he was holding on to.
That jolted him out of sleep right away, and he sat up almost immediately, only to be greeted by a long, numbing pain in his skull. He had to put his head in his hands for a while. Joe sat up too and started massaging his head. He put both hands on Ben’s temples, kneading gently, moving across and around, on the sides of his head, at the back, down to his neck. This feels so good. He didn’t realize he had said it out loud until he heard Joe chuckling. “I should have told you to go light on the wine. They’re local, pretty strong stuff.”
He wanted to tell Joe, no, this doesn’t feel like a hangover at all, but he didn’t want Joe to stop either, so he merely grunted and lied down again, putting his head on Joe’s lap.
He could definitely get used to this.
They got up and moving when one of guides drew the curtain slightly open with his hand, not looking in, just letting them know that they’re ready to go anytime now. Joe replied and thanked him.
The guides brought them a little eastward on camels to see the desert sunrise. The sun came into sight as if it was lighting amber fire that burned across the vastness of the sand and sky all around them. It was magnificent. On Joe’s pale skin, it looked like he was bathed in gold.
Ben continued clicking away on his camera for a while.
When Joe turned to him he was smiling, and Ben found himself smiling too.
“That was bucket-list worthy,” he said, and Ben agreed.
They continued moving until they reached an oasis town, a quiet, rustic place with friendly dwellers, always with mint tea at hand. After looking around the oasis and the buildings, some lived in, some abandoned, they made their way back to Ouarzazate again, through Draa.
It was late afternoon when they were back at the riad; almost evening. Ben missed the clear-water pool and Joe joined him. They had more mint tea, Joe was again chatting away with seemingly everyone over dinner, and Ben was happy to occasionally interject. But mostly he was smiling and laughing. He couldn’t remember the last time he felt this relaxed and happy, and each time he looked at Joe talking and charming everyone at the dinner table, the feelings seemed to amplify.
When they went to bed that night it took a long time for Ben to finally fall asleep, but when he did, his sleep was dreamless and uninterrupted. He woke up feeling fresh and rejuvenated, ready to hit the road again. This time they’re driving to Marrakech on the winding road around the High Atlas mountain range. The view was amazing; snow-capped mountains lining their sight, punctuated by small villages clinging to the mountainsides. Joe decided earlier on to take a slightly more challenging route to Telouet through the Ounila Valley, where they were greeted with terraced valleys and orchards, abandoned houses carved deep into the mountains and more kasbahs, still very well preserved, sprawling and magnificent in their ruins. Ben hoped his camera wouldn’t run out of memory anytime soon.
When they arrived in Marrakech they immediately headed to the riad they’re staying in. It’s in a relatively quiet part of the city, which is saying a lot, since Marrakech is densely populated and its spirit is one of an endless open market. It’s also a lot more colourful than the sienna-hued desert areas and brown-grey of the mountainside. Shops filled with goods and trinkets of all kinds and shapes and small cafes lined the street, with people going in and out constantly. The walls are painted bright white or pastel hues, colourful tiles and geometrical shapes as interior decor. Ben immediately started clicking away at his camera the moment they arrived. Once they entered the riad, they were greeted by the indoor pool in the middle of the open courtyard, its edges tiled green, turquoise and white. It’s not as large and deep as the outdoor one in Ouarzazate, it’s more of a dipping pool if anything. Ben snapped a photo, and checked the display screen.
“We’re gonna have to get a new memory card.”
“Let’s get it when we go out to eat later,” Joe said, looking up and around the courtyard. “It’s gonna be hard to leave this place.” He shook his head apologetically.
They head upstairs, walking along the quiet and empty balcony to their room. The entire riad seemed to belong only to them, no other soul in sight, no sound heard from other rooms. Their room is spacious, with a large bed and a lounge chair big enough for an adult to lie down comfortably on. It’s decorated tastefully in that distinctively Moroccan style; the tilework beautiful and intricate and lining the walls and covering the floor, even in the bathroom. They decided to book this room despite the large bed because of the size and the view; the room with two single beds were much smaller too.
Joe let himself fall down on the bed, while Ben drew the curtain to the balcony. The view is of many other adobe buildings, rooftop patios and far beyond it is the High Atlas, still so majestic in its shadow. Ben began stripping down and out of his dusty travelling clothes, grabbing a pair of shorts from his bag and one of the towels provided in the room.
“Heading to the pool already?” Joe asked, sitting up with a groan.
“Yep.” He ran a hand through his hair, there’s fine dust in them. “You coming?”
“Yeah. Will join you in a minute.” Joe got up and grabbed his bag. Ben didn’t want to wait around for him to get undressed and changed so he went ahead and downstairs to the pool.
He got in and submerged himself completely in the water, and his entire body sighed at the cool relief that it’s been given. He likes the complete, bottled up silence underwater. Soon, from under the water, he could see Joe’s feet, making his way to the edge of the pool, sitting down with a small book, and two red apples in his hands. The thin book is a phrasebook he has been carrying around with him. He took one of the apples and bit into it.
Ben came up and out of the water.
“Look what I got,” Joe said, smirking and showing off the red apple in one hand.
“Were they from the room?” Ben asked, not recalling seeing any. Joe gestured to give him an apple, but Ben shook his head.
“No,” Joe answered around a mouthful. He swallowed before continuing. “Got them from a staff as I was coming here. There’s a kitchen apparently, but it’s hidden a little further away from the courtyard. She was carrying groceries and fruits so I helped her.”
“Been sweet-talking again, haven’t you?” Ben shook his head, but he’s smiling.
“Hey, I helped her.” Joe was indignant. “Even asked for another apple for you.”
Ben waded through the water to come closer to Joe. He stopped in front of the redhead and put an arm across his bare lap. Is it him or is Joe’s skin a lot less paler now since they got here? He seemed to have gotten a bit of healthy colour on them. He leaned forward and stole a bite from the apple in Joe’s hand.
"Hey!" Joe laughed before shaking his head disapprovingly.
“I’ll eat mine later,” Ben said, a little cheekily, but clearly liking the apple’s taste and sweetness.
“No way,” Joe protested, chuckling. “They’re both mine now. Thief.”
Ben just smiled, clearly up to something. “Put that down, I’m pulling you in,” he said suddenly, hooking his arm behind and around Joe’s knees.
“What--” Joe let out a surprised yelp as the younger man pulled him into the dipping pool. It wasn’t that the pool was deep or even remotely dangerous; Ben could stand perfectly fine in it and the water goes up just until his chest, but Joe had noticed an undercurrent of irritation and strain in Ben’s mood since they were in Agadir and then in Ouarzazate, but suddenly it seemed to have disappeared completely in Marrakech, replaced by this cheeky playfulness that Joe hadn’t seen for quite some time. Not since the last time they had taken a long trip away together like this, at least.
It took him awhile to realize that the sudden jump had their bodies pressed close together now, Ben’s arms around him and his arm around Ben’s neck, in each other’s attempt to not let the other person fall down into the water earlier. Ben always came up with some childish, playful ideas like this when he’s in the right mood. How immature, Joe thought, but he likes this Ben better anyway.
He told himself that he should pull away from Ben now, suddenly realizing that not only they’re too close, they’re also wet and almost naked. But neither of them seemed to want to move.
“Hey,” Ben said, and Joe thought he could hear his voice shaking a little, “Remember you told me the other day Chloe thought that we’re together?”
Joe looked straight and unwaveringly into Ben’s green eyes. “Yeah.”
“Do you--” he started and paused, swallowing. “Do you really think it’s funny?”
“No.” He didn’t know why it came out of his mouth almost like a whisper. Suddenly it seemed like the pool water he’s standing in had turned warm, or maybe it was Ben’s arms around him, or the heat he could feel pooling at the base of his gut, and now spreading everywhere in his body, to his head, and colouring his cheeks.
On the other hand, Ben looked like he had lost all colour from his face.
“Me neither,” he said. It must have been barely a whisper too, considering how closely they’re standing in each other’s arms right now, but Ben’s voice sounded too loud in his ears, like the sheepskin drum banging and clear voiced singing piercing the silence of the desert. Ben had been unusually quiet the entire first day they were out on the Sahara, and Joe had tried every little, subtle trick he knew to lift the mood of the younger man, to no avail. He ate less than usual, and had been steadily sipping glass after glass of wine, and his eyes--Joe knew Ben’s eyes better than anyone--they’re filled to the brim with things that were threatening to break and spill anyway no matter how much he--or they, for that matter--tried to hide.
“Joe, I--”
It felt like this conversation that they’re struggling to have, with stuttering words and half-whispers, was the only conversation they have been waiting to have since forever. Since they first met and Joe thought Ben hated him, the American actor who’s playing the bass player of a British iconic rock band. Since Joe’s birthday when Ben apologized and kissed him with an apple between their mouths. Since they hate being away and apart from each other’s side. Since they started using endearments in texts, like they don’t really mean it. Since they first snapped a photo of Ben kissing Joe’s cheek and sent it to Gwil, and it became a normal thing for them to do to rile the poor man up. They’re all just a joke, after all. Joe used to think it didn’t matter, the feelings he had for the younger man, until he learned to read Ben’s eyes, and he could see something more in them. But he kept telling himself it was absurd, it was all merely his imagination.
That is until they found themselves standing here, in a dipping pool with the sun shining through the open, unroofed courtyard, arms around each other, him looking straight into Ben’s eyes and the younger man looking like he’s about to stop breathing, stumbling and choking on his own words.
So Joe did the only thing he could think of. He leaned in, as close as possible without actually touching Ben’s lips, closed his eyes, and kissed him.
There was that initial second where they pretended like they were playing it coy, like they were being careful with each other. But Joe took that half step closer to Ben, and the water around buoyed them on, until two steps and a half later, Ben was pressed against the tiled wall of the pool, and Joe was kissing him with one hand under his jaw, his thumb grazing the corner of Ben’s lips, and the other arm slung over his shoulder, around his neck, keeping his close, even as Ben slips both his arms tighter around Joe, very clearly not going to let him go. At least not anytime soon. They pulled apart for a moment, just enough to breathe, before kissing open mouthed again, savouring each other like making up for lost time. There’s a hint of apple sweetness still on their tongues, but other than that they’re just tasting and breathing in each other, so familiar and yet so new. And touching skin. There’s just so much skin. So when Ben’s roaming hands rather deliberately ran along and inside the waistband of Joe’s shorts, causing him to shudder involuntarily and pull away, he moaned a little into Ben’s neck.
“Wait--” he said, lips still on skin.
“Wait what?” Ben sounded a little confused.
“Wait until we get upstairs?” Joe offered.
“Don’t say things like that.” Ben closed his eyes, pressing their foreheads together before kissing Joe again.
“Like what?” Joe said when Ben let go of his lips to start kissing the skin along his jawline instead.
“Like that.” Ben said, catching Joe's upper lip between his lip and teeth.
“Like, let’s get upstairs, get dressed and go out so we can get the memory card for your camera and something to eat?” He was teasing him.
Ben made a sound in his throat that sounded clearly like a protest and kissed Joe again. “No, like, get upstairs so I can kiss you all day long like this.”
And Joe could honestly, really, see no point in arguing with that, so he kissed Ben one more time.

I Promise
“How about harry giving y/n a promise ring and then making love.”
Warnings: Very fluffy, soft smut

Tumblr media
You and Harry were just about to celebrate your 5 year anniversary. You met him while he was on the Where We Are Tour with One Direction. You were in the pit with your two best friends having the time of your life. Harry caught sight of you, and like the amazing crowd entertainer he is, pointed you out over the mic and made fun of your crazing dancing. It made you laugh and you were basically swooning over how he teased you. Later on that night, by some miracle, Harry found you and your friends outside the arena waiting for your ride. He offered to take all of you out to eat since they had one more night to spend in your town. You two hit it off instantly, and the rest is history.
You were so excited to celebrate five years. Being in the business Harry is in, it can be so stressful and so difficult to keep a relationship, but you two made it work. Harry promised to take a day or two off work to be with you to celebrate your anniversary; you weren’t expecting what he actually did.
“Are you joking with me?” You asked him with excitement filling your voice.
“I’m not joking,” Harry told you with a smile. He grabbed the phone out of your hands, “but if you don’t want to go, I can cancelled the booking.”
“No!!” You yelled grabbing his hands. “I’m so excited; I really want to go,” you told him laughing.
“Good,” he said bending down to kiss you. “We leave tomorrow.” He turned and walked away sassily making you laugh. You watched as he walked smiling at how much you loved him. He had booked a room for you at a private beach villa in Jamaica for an entire week. You couldn’t wait to have time to yourselves with no one interrupting you.
. . .
You had just gotten off the plane and were making your way to the exit after receiving your luggage. The villa included a taxi driver waiting for you once you got out of the gate. You got in the taxi and took a 45 minute drive to the resort. Once you pulled up, you gasped. It was the most beautiful place you had ever seen. Lots of palm trees, clean white sand, crystal clear water, waves crashing right beside the villa, you were amazed.
“This is gorgeous,” you said as you stepped out of the taxi, taking in your surroundings. Once you got out of the taxi, you were met by an employee that gave you a tour of the villa and an idea of the town around you. The entire time you were so enthralled with everything around you. Harry thought it was beautiful too, but he was more intrigued by you and your excitement to look away from you.
“I’m obsessed,” you said as the man left.
“I’m glad you approve.” Harry walked up to you and placed one hand on your waist as you wrapped your arms around his shoulders.
“Where did you even find this place, it’s amazing,” you asked him.
“Gemma did actually. She was looking for a place for her and her girlfriends to have a getaway and stumbled upon it. Said it looked like the ‘perfect romantic getaway.’”
“I’d agree with her,” you said as you reached up to kiss Harry. You only met from a quick moment when a sound behind you interrupted you. You both turned to look behind Harry and saw the taxi driver bringing in your luggage. You and Harry were so in tune with each other, you had forgotten one necessity.
“oh, right!” Harry said walking toward the man. He pulled out his wallet and handed the man a tip, “thank you.” The man thanked Harry and nodded to you wishing you both a good stay.
Harry walked back to you, “what to do first?” He asked as he leaned down to kiss you again. You stood there and kissed him playing with the little curls at the back of his neck before you smiled and pulled away.
“Definitely the pool,” you said and ran to change into your swimsuit.
“That’s not what I meant,” Harry said after you making you laugh. You knew exactly what he meant, and he was definitely in for it for booking a trip and villa so amazing.
You had gotten into the pool and were floating around for a while before Harry joined you.
“What took so long?” You asked him, shielding your eyes from the sun to look at him.
“I couldn’t find my trunks,” he admitted to you. You giggled at him. Such a Harry thing to do. You swam over to where he was and wrapped your legs around his waist, arms around his neck.
“Thank you for bringing me here,” you told him as he carried you to the other side of the pool, leaning against the edge of it.
“My pleasure, love,” Harry told you with a kiss to your nose. “You deserve nothing but the best.”
. . .
The nights had flown by so fast and you were already on your last night. You had such an amazing time with Harry, you wished you never had to leave. But life was still going on and you both had responsibilities to return to. Luckily for you, Harry had planned for the last day to be the best day. You went on a boat ride, swimming with dolphins, and to a local museum. It was a great, fun-filled day.
Harry had planned for the two of you to go into for a nice dinner to end your trip. You had dressed in a pretty white dress that flowed around your thighs, stopping just at the knee, and hugged your breasts in just the right way with pretty floral lace details on the bottom. Harry wore black suit pants and a white button down with the sleeves rolled up. The both of you looked nice and classy while also staying casual and comfortable.
After eating at the restaurant and taking a quick stroll around the town, you and Harry headed back to the villa. You went into your master suit and looked out the open doors to listen to the ocean and enjoy the view for one last time. While you were standing there, leaning against the door frame, you heard Harry walk in. You slightly turned to him and smiled.
“Are you gonna miss it?” He asked you reciprocating your smile.
“Yeah,” You said softly so infatuated with the place and time you had. Harry walked up to you and gave your forehead a quick kiss before leaning his against it.
“I got something for you,” he began to say. You looked at him confused, you hadn’t gotten him anything and he told you he didn’t get you anything either. Just this trip for the two of you to enjoy together. He pulled a little silver box out of his pocket and opened it to reveal a diamond ring. You covered your mouth as you looked at the gorgeous ring- a simple band with a square cut diamond in the center all surrounded by smaller diamonds. You looked at Harry in shock.
“I love you so much. More than I could love anyone else. You’ve stuck around, supporting me through all the choices I’ve made, good and bad. You’ve accepted me with everything I am and the life I live, and you never bat an eye. You are the most understanding and patient woman I’ve ever met. You’re kind and gentle and slow to anger. I don’t know what I did to deserve an angel like you in my life, but I thank whoever was in charge of leading us together.” Your eyes had began to water. You were not prepared for this in the least.
“I promise that I will love you for as long as I’m breathing. I promise to protect you and care for you. I promise that I will support you through every decision you make, just as you do for me. And in the future, I promise to exchange this ring for a bigger engagement ring. I promise to throw you a huge white wedding and make you my wife. I promise to be the best husband you could ever ask for. I promise, one day, to be the best father your children could ask for.” Harry took the ring out of the box and slipped it on your finger as a few tears slipped from your eyes.
“I promise to be with you forever as long as you’ll have me,” Harry finished looking into your eyes. He wiped a few stray tears and kissed you. You kissed him back with passion. You had so much love for this man, you couldn’t find the words to express it.
You pulled away from Harry as you looked down at the ring on your finger. It was perfect and everything you could have ever asked for in a promise ring. “It’s so perfect,” you told Harry, looking up at him.
“You’re perfect,” he whispered back to you, kissing you again. You leaned your body into his as the kiss got heated quickly. Harry pulled away from your mouth and began to kiss your neck. He left little love bites all over as he made his way down to your chest. He kissed over the parts that were exposed until he hit your cleavage. He pulled one of the cups of your dress down and playfully licked a strip up your breast before he straightened back up again.
“This way,” he said as he pulled you to the bed. He sat you down and began to kiss you again this time starting at your ankles. He took your heels off as he kissed each side of your ankle, jokingly licking up the bottom of your foot to make you jump back.
“You’re gross,” you told him while also laughing at him. He smiled, feeling proud of himself for making you laugh. He continued to kiss and lick his way up your leg, paying attention to every detail, kissing each scar or imperfection he crossed along the way. He pushed the skirt of you dress up as he made his way higher up your thigh. He stopped to kiss right next to the place that was begging for him the most. He placed a light kiss on either side of your mound before licking a straight line directly over your clothed clit. You hips jumped as you reacted to the sudden contact.
Harry grabbed your dress from where it sat at your waist and pulled it over your head. He placed it gently on the bed beside you and his attention went back to you. He kissed up your torso, licking up from your pelvis to your navel, tugging the belly ring you had on(sorry, I love them, I had to) and continued up to your bare breasts. He took his time licking at sucking at your breast and nipple one at a time, massaging the other one as he went. You grabbed his wrist as your head fell back. It was the feeling of perfection. Harry went back to your lips and kissed you again. You grabbed his hair and began to pull on it as Harry reached down and pulled your panties off. He stuck a finger between your folds as he felt how wet you are.
“Feel good, baby?” He asked you quietly as he continued to rub you. He quickly stopped to take his clothes off, reaveling his inked skin. He went back to rubbing your clit before sitting on the bed, signaling for you to sit on him. You straddled his lap as he helped guide his cock to your hole, and you sank down on him, both of you letting out a moan at how it felt. Harry guided you on his cock as he buried his face in your neck. You softly moaned as you felt him hit your g-spot perfectly each time. You both stayed in this position, moving slowly, just feeling each other. You eventually felt the heat rising in your stomach as you got closer.
“Harry,” you called his name to warn him.
“I know, baby,” he replied softly as you kissed you. You both pulled away from the kiss but kept your foreheads together. You looked at each other as your highs slowly approached. You gasped and your mouth fell open as your orgasm hit you surprisingly fast. You gripped Harry’s curly hair between your fingers and closed your eyes. Harry’s followed soon after and you both sat there in silent bliss, just holding each other. Harry eventually laid you down on the bed and pulled out of you. He disappeared into the bathroom to get a wet washcloth and cleaned your and his cum from your sensitive pussy.
“I love you so much,” you said as he got back in bed cuddling you.
“I loved you so much more,” he said kissing your forehead as you both drifted to sleep.
I feel so weird writing smut, let me know if it sucks and how I can do better.
Also for reference the dress and ring I was picturing:

Two Worlds Collide Chapter 17
Read it on AO3 | Rated: NC-17 | Stella x Scully
Tumblr media
Chapter 17
(read it from the beginning here)
Scully stood beside Stella on the beach as the moon rose over the lake. A branch cracked somewhere in the woods behind them, and she couldn’t help smiling as she saw Stella clench the can of bear spray in her right hand. Scully wasn’t worried about bears, or mountain lions, or anything else that might be roaming these woods. Nothing was going to ruin this weekend for her, not after her reunion with William and the beautiful moment she’d shared with Stella on a mountaintop that morning.
After their hike, Scully had met Mulder in town for coffee before he flew back to Virginia. Consulting for the FBI was a good thing for him. There was a light in his eyes that she hadn’t seen since they left the X Files ten years ago, and she was so glad to see it. They were both stronger and happier now, and after this weekend, she was more secure about where they stood in each other’s lives now that they were no longer a couple. He seemed to be too.
After coffee with Mulder, she and Stella had gone for another swim in the lake. Then they’d eaten pasta together on the back deck, and now they were down at the lake so she could show Stella the Milky Way before they flew home tomorrow.
“Mulder once told me that starlight is where lost souls go,” she murmured, looking up at the heavens. The sky glowed with millions of stars, eclipsed by the moon that hung silvery bright over the lake in front of them, reflected on its surface in glittering ripples.
“Do you believe that?” Stella asked.
“No.” She smiled at the memory. “But it’s fascinating to think that some of the stars we’re looking at right now are long dead. They’re so far away that their light is still shining on us thousands of years after they’re gone.”
“Never really thought about it,” Stella said, her t’s neat and clipped. After all this time, her accent still made Scully swoon. Maybe it always would.
“Look, there’s the Milky Way.” She pointed at the milky strip overhead, stars so close together the whole sky seemed to glow.
“Okay, that is impressive,” Stella said.
“Worth coming out here for?” Scully threaded their fingers together. Stella’s skin was cool from the night breeze. Her hair had shone like spun gold in the sunlight earlier, but it glowed a shining silver in the moonlight now, equally breathtaking. Scully loved her so much she felt like she might burst from the power of it.
“That remains to be seen,” Stella said, casting her eyes in Scully’s direction. “Depends whether we make it back to the cabin in one piece.”
“The inimitable Stella Gibson is afraid of bears,” she whispered, giving Stella’s shoulder a playful nudge.
“Fuck off,” Stella muttered, but there was laughter in her voice.
They stood there for a long time staring up at the stars before making their way back to the cabin. They went to bed early that night, since they had to be up at the crack of dawn for their flight home to London. Was London home now? As she drifted off to sleep beside the woman she loved, she had a feeling it might be.
The flight was uneventful, although long. They took a taxi together to Scully’s flat, heading straight upstairs to bed since they both had to be at work the next day. Stella sat on the edge of the bed in her white lace-fringed nightgown. “Do you have any lip balm? The flight dried me out.”
“Yeah, just look in the nightstand.” She gestured at the table by the bed before heading into the bathroom to brush her teeth. When she came back out, Stella was curled up in bed with a smug grin on her face.
“Look what I found?” She held up Scully’s hot pink vibrator.
Scully felt her cheeks heat to the color of the toy. “Yes, well, I’m sure you have one too…or more than one.”
Stella gave her an amused look as she pressed the silver button at the base of the toy, frowning when nothing happened. “Thought we might have a little fun with it together.”
“Well, it looks like it needs to be charged.” Scully leaned over to kiss her. “But I don’t think I have the energy tonight anyway. I have to be up in six hours to work a twelve-hour shift.”
Stella pressed the button again, confirming the vibrator was dead before setting it on the table beside her. “Used it up, did you?”
“Um, the opposite of that, really. I don’t think I’ve turned it on since I got here.” She grinned at Stella. “You’ve kept me plenty busy.”
Stella lifted the covers, and Scully crawled in next to her. They shut out the light, and she was asleep almost immediately, deep and dreamless until the alarm woke her the next morning “Ugh.” She rolled over to silence it, brain foggy, eyes gritty. “Jetlag.”
“Tell me about it.” Stella blinked at her from the other side of the bed, looking similarly wrecked. But this was part of the job—for both of them—so they got up without further complaint and got ready for work. Before she walked out the door, though, she took a moment to pop the vibrator onto its charger.
By the time she dragged herself back through the door some thirteen hours later, she’d forgotten all about it. She was exhausted, but Stella—beautiful, workaholic Stella—was still at the office. She’d texted earlier to say she would probably sleep there and that Scully shouldn’t wait up for her.
Well, if this was the price to pay for their weekend together, she would happily pay it. Somewhere in the back of her mind, though, she wondered if Stella was doing this to return some space between them, if she was regretting the things she’d said and shared in Wyoming. Scully pressed a palm against her forehead. She was overthinking this. Stella was busy after taking yesterday off from work. And if she needed some time to herself after their long weekend together, that was fine too.
Scully heated up a microwave meal for herself, and then she marched straight upstairs, ready to fall into bed. The vibrator sat on her nightstand, fully charged. She unplugged it with a smile, remembering the way Stella had held it last night. Just for fun, she pressed the button to turn it on. Nothing happened. She pressed it again. Silence.
“Well, that’s too bad,” she muttered to herself. She tried it a few more times, and then sent a text to Stella.
Sad news. The vibrator is dead.
Almost immediately, Stella texted back. Well then, I’ll have to take you shopping for a new one.
Don’t be silly. I’ll order one online. Scully had never actually visited a store that sold them. Why put herself through that potentially embarrassing situation when she could shop anonymously on the internet—and most likely have access to a larger inventory, not to mention customer reviews?
Where’s the fun in that? Stella replied.
The fun comes after it arrives. She added a winking emoji.
I’ll take you shopping on Saturday.
Fine. Good night, Stella. Don’t work too hard.
Night, love.
Scully pressed a hand against her heart. Yes, it was a British term of endearment, but Stella had never used it with her before, and…gah. She set the useless vibrator aside and lay in bed, still wearing her scrubs, asleep almost before her head hit the pillow.
***
Stella worked until her eyelids felt like sandpaper scraping over her eyeballs every time she blinked. It felt good to be back in her office. The fatigue was like an old friend, welcome and familiar. The cot behind the desk was her mistress, offering a respite—albeit brief—from the file in front of her.
Wyoming felt surreal, almost like a dream. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw Scully, fingers buried deep inside her as she told her she loved her, hand in Stella’s as she showed her the Milky Way, blushing furiously as Stella held her vibrator.
Dana.
Stella inhaled sharply, pressing a hand against her chest. She’d been wrong on that mountaintop because her declaration of love changed everything. Now, it was a tangible part of herself, something she was aware of every minute of the day. This was it for her. There would never be another person to infiltrate her heart the way Scully had. And yet she still feared the painful, inevitable truth. It couldn’t last, not for someone like her. It would end, the way all her relationships did. Scully would return to America at the end of her fellowship. And Stella would have to remember how to live without her.
What did a life without her even look like? Stella lifted her head, realizing that it looked like…this. An office devoid of personal photos, case files stacked in front of her, a harsh fluorescent bulb overhead, burning her eyes into dust. With a heavy sigh, she shut off her laptop, turned out the light, and crawled onto the cot waiting for her, barely conscious long enough to pull the blanket over herself.
When she woke, voices echoed outside her office, officers working cases, fighting crime, chasing killers, an endless cycle of good versus evil. She lay for a moment, staring up at the white-tiled ceiling overhead, grateful she’d managed a few peaceful hours of sleep. She rolled to her side and picked up her phone, blinking past the grittiness in her eyes.
Morning. Hope you catch whatever fucker you’re after this week.
It was from Scully, of course. No one else texted Stella outside of work, which was either sad or efficient, depending how she looked at it. A smile tugged at her lips as she scrolled through her camera roll to the selfie she and Scully had taken atop that mountain on Sunday, both of them smiling widely, arms around each other, cheeks pressed together.
When was the last time she’d taken a carefree photo like this?
She couldn’t even remember. With a sigh, she sat up, stretching past the various aches and pains in her body. Truth: she wasn’t as young as she used to be. She would be up for promotion soon. Was it time to give up this life, move up the management chain, let someone else lose sleep over the rapists and murderers not yet caught?
It was a question for another day. She set her phone on the desk, grabbed a clean change of clothes from the closet, and made her way down to the locker room to shower and prepare herself for the day ahead. Thirty minutes later, she called DC Welsh and DC Copeny into her office to discuss strategies and steps in the Flynn murder. After that, she headed to the morgue to receive the autopsy findings, and then walked straight into a meeting with her boss, Chief Superintendent Chris George, and several other high-ranking officers to discuss the department’s crime solving rate so far this year.
She’d just returned to her office, sinking gratefully into the chair behind her desk, when she heard a familiar laugh. She looked up to see Scully charming Anwar behind the reception desk. Scully watched with a dazzling smile as he leaned back in his chair, entertaining her with one of his wild tales, hands up and waving wildly. His gaze dropped—just briefly—to Scully’s cleavage, visible above the vee neck of her scrubs, and then he leaned in to whisper something in her ear.
Stella stood and walked to the door of her office, leaning a hip against the frame, left eye twitching furiously as she chewed her bottom lip, eyes searing into the top of Scully’s head until she finally looked up, meeting Stella’s gaze. She didn’t bother to blink, letting Scully feel every possessive ounce of her displeasure.
Scully had visited headquarters often enough that Anwar and most of the junior officers up front knew her by name. They knew she was here to see Stella. Maybe some of them had their suspicions, but honestly, she doubted it. They had assumed Scully was a friend, a colleague even, simply because they hadn’t bothered to pay attention. And therefore, Anwar felt comfortable flirting with her right under Stella’s nose.
Scully walked toward her now, holding Stella’s unblinking gaze. She reached the doorway in which Stella remained unmoving, hip cocked, arms crossed over her chest. She waited until Scully was right in front of her, and then she uncoiled herself from the doorframe, placing one hand possessively on Scully’s hip, just low enough to make her intention clear.
She looked toward the reception desk, catching Anwar’s gaze. She made sure he saw, and more to the point, that he understood, and then she kicked the door to her office shut behind them.

Day tripper
Having sat on my ass for 2 months, i suddenly realized that i needed to get out to the remote beaches. The Hot Springs was so good trip that it motivated me.
Agua Blanca, an empty beach stretches for miles south, broken only by a lagoon/inflow(sign: no swimming /crocodiles). That's where I usually stop for bird watching before returning to the palapa restaurant perhaps a mile each way. The beach, flat and hot , runs south towards Chila a t last 10 miles away. There are usually a few local fisherman hand casting off a set of rocks, using bleach bottle reels, and tiny fish for bait. Yes they often do catch fish, small silver surf feeders, occasionaly a bigger predator drawn to the bait. Seems like an inef ficient way to fish, but the cost is minimal. Gringoes surf casting with long poles and spinning reels, do no better, perhaps because they are using lures. The rock outcrops used to be loaded with oysters( a big deal here, half shell) but have been fished out, and now oysters are imported from further south and set in tide pools in gunny sacks till needed. Personally I see oysters as slugs in a shell ever since I was challenged to eat one by BC Hydros manager, but that's another story.
No crocodiles in sight, but lots of wading birds, which I take as a no crocodile sign. No haul out tracks in the mangroves either. There a re increasing numbers of crocs on the coast, with one flushed out of the Rio Stinko on to Marinero beach last year to the dismay of tourists. I,ve never seen one outside of the croc farm at Chacahua, and after having a 5 meter croc crash into the fence in pursuit of a dog that was following us(next to the gate tied with a bit of string!), I,ve not wanted to see any.
Did flush a small flock of blue ducks, possibly blue winged teal. They flew a tight formation up the lagoon, flashing sky blue shoulder patches. Didn,t mean to spook them, but they saw me first. The waders are herons, non descript, several varieties. The scummy weeded inshore water is loaded with tiny silver fish. Heron food.
Back to the palapa for a cold coconut and flop in the palm thatch shade. Travelling with 3 friends, and we try to organize a hot meal, with limited success. I believe the kitchen cooks only cook one meal at a time, setting aside the first ones so they can serve them all at once. Result, cold eggs, with hot tortillas. 100 pesos($7) but it' a nice view. We early birds get the view before the other tourists straggle in about 10 am. Given a dozen places to chose from, it's rarely crowded.
Right in front, 20 meters away are tidal pools that flood with each wave crashing onto the rocks that define the place, ideally flooding the inshore low beach and creating a little flow across the sands that floods back out to sea. Fun to hop in and ride along. only once did i find myself being swept back out to sea and had to stand knee deep in the flow, unable to wade out till the flow slacked. Alternative was an involuntary bit of body surfing among rocks!. The sea has been chilly (25 degrees ) and so it's dip and dash.
By 1 o,clock we pay, pack and catch the pre booked taxi back to Santa Elena for the chicken bus. Like everything else, the taxi has increased in price (from 50 to 60 pesos), but split 4 ways its nothing. Likewise the bus went from 30 to 40 pesos, but they are much improved, having windows, cushioned seats, and saner drivers. Full of coconut juice I really needed a piss, so using logic I wandered up the road past the taxi lot. Taxi drivers need to piss too, and sure enough there was a wet spot a bit further where cabbies had pissed liberally on a wall. Relief!
It's a 40 minute ride back, with the busses seeing more customers with the increased population. Seats fill up, but locals prefer being crammed into the mini van transporters, so we wait for the 40 passenger buses, more air, much better views, and more metal if some fool hits us. Hint from a Mexican: Don't travel the roads on a Sunday, as this is when people have a day off, and dad gets drunk! Safely back in Puerto we face the greatest danger of the day, crossing the 4 lane carretera highway, a mad dash to the divider, and a scramble across the next 2 lanes in ahead of trucks and motorcycles accelerating off the speed bump. Phew! Home to shower, change sopping shirts and sticky swim suits, then a cold juice and a plunge in the clean refreshing pool. A sucessful out of town day!

December sojourn in Goa
It was in the month of December ’16 that I along with my extended family made a visit to Goa. Even though I’ve been to Goa many times before, this trip was special to me as we were a big group of 10 people this time around. December, being one of the most pleasant months of the year, called for a perfect holiday outing. Since new year was around the corner, we decided to welcome it in this wonderful land of beaches…Goa. Goa has got two districts, North Goa and South Goa. While North Goa is known to be a vibrant, “happening” place with a bustling nightlife, and is often visited by tourists, South Goa is a more serene and scenic destination which is now gaining popularity among travelers. North Goa is loved by those who enjoy the fast-paced party life buzzing through the night, whereas South Goa is quite the opposite. For those who enjoy quieter vacations, there is nothing like a serene beach san too many people. As we were on the lookout for a tranquil and quiet place to stay, choice of South Goa for stay was natural.
The Stay:
In my previous visits to Goa, I stayed at some of the prominent names in Hotel Industry, but this time we wanted something more custom made to our needs, and most importantly we wanted to experience the privileges of spending time together under one roof. The concept of homestay was not new to me, but I never stayed in a homestay before. I was often told by my friends about the superior, comfortable and customized services that several well managed homestays offer and how it gives us the feeling of closeness which we often miss out on in our daily life, hence this time, we chose a homestay. We booked a 3 BHK villa in Costa Holidays, Varca in South Goa through TripThrill. It was a massive duplex villa with all modern amenities indoors. There was a portico at the entrance, a beautiful lawn on one side and a car parking on the other side of the villa. A perfect holiday home indeed! We loved the place, on top of it, TripThrill as a perfect host, took care of all of our in-house requirements, overall, our stay was pleasant and comfortable. We all know that Goa is largely famous for its exquisite beaches and without doubt, is the most sought after tourist destination in India. There are more than 36 beaches in Goa, each one is known for its own distinctiveness. During our trip this season, we mostly covered the South Goa beaches and discovered that its circuit begins from Margao, the second most important city in Goa and connects Goa to all major cities in the coastline like Mumbai, Mangalore, and Kochi. After much thought and deliberation, we zeroed in on a few popular beaches to be visited in South Goa.
So…Here’s my share! These are the 10 happening beaches in South Goa: 1) Palolem Beach 2) Colva Beach 3) Agonda Beach 4) Bogmalo Beach 5) Majorda Beach 6) Benaulim Beach 7) Polem Beach 8) Arossim Beach 9) Varca Beach 10) Mobor Beach Our excitement knew no bounds at the very mention of ‘Beach’! We carried the required beach stuff like towels, flip-flops, swim wear, cameras (much needed) and off we went! 1) Colva Beach- Colva is a small village in South Goa on the shores of the Arabian sea. Two kms further ahead from Colva is Benaulim. With 20 kms of virgin white sands, palm-fringed and sun-drenched beaches, Colva is the most loved beach of the Goans. Moreover, Colva beach is not only a perfect place for swimming (the sea waves are not so much high) but also a center for night parties which are organized right on the sandy beach. While we took a stroll on the Colva beach, we happened to see silver carpets of mackerels shimmering on the golden sands, put up for drying. What an amazing sight it was! Roger’s and Leda lounge are the popular beach shacks on the shores of Colva offering yummy seafood. Vegetarians need not panic as restaurants here serve a variety of veg.food too! This place will fit those who like to spend their days lying on the beach under the sunbeams and partying all night long. 2) Benaulim Beach- Less than 2 kms south of Colva lies the more tranquil beach of Benaulim. It is one of the few places in Goa where one can get a glimpse of handicrafts, typical to this area. The ladies in our group even bought some pretty looking hand made bracelets from the beach vendors. Benaulim brings lots of beach activities ranging from water sports (parasailing, snorkeling, and windsurfing ) to eateries and other shopping activities. During our 10 days stay in south Goa, we too enjoyed parasailing, motor boat ride and dolphin sighting to name a few. The shops on this beach also offer furniture, Indian & Kashmiri handicrafts and ornaments. There are a number of beachside restaurants where one can gorge on yummy seafood. Johncy’s and Pedro’s are the two popular food joints on Benaulim beach. Nightlife at Benaulim is quite happening. At night, the beach looks very pretty with twinkling stars in the sky and gentle moonlight bestowing the place, amazing sight! Music, dance and drinking chilled beer are the main attractions of nightlife in Benaulim. 3) Palolem Beach- With a 1.5 kilometer stretch of white powdery sand, palm groves, a picturesque bay, and a small green island, Palolem beach offers a breathtaking view of the Arabian sea. This beach is also called a fishing beach. Fishermen often venture into the sea to catch fish from this point. There are a few shacks on the shore, selling seafood, souvenirs and bright, colorful clothes. One can hire taxis and auto-rickshaws to reach Palolem beach from Margao. One can also rent a bicycle from a number of places in the village and set out to whichever way their inner compass is pointing. There are regular buses too from various nearby villages to Palolem. To the North of Palolem beach is Butterfly beach and to the South is Patnem, both exuding an ideal allure. For nature lovers, Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary offers a visual treat. It is located at a short distance from Palolem. The sanctuary boasts an array of exotic towering trees and other tropical plants as well as protected wildlife. During our visit, we saw a lot of foreigners lingering here. Most of them can be seen sunbathing, listening to music or simply take a stroll on the sand. This place has a good nightlife. One can go to Neptune point for a silent noise party and enjoy music on their headphones and dance till the music ends. Draupadi, Magic Italy and Sea breeze are few popular restaurants in Palolem. It is a perfect place to watch the sunset! 4) Varca Beach- Amongst all the beautiful beaches in Goa, Varca beach is the one that holds a special place for every beach lover. This is because Varca beach is relatively quiet and peaceful. Situated in the south Goa, Varca beach simply adorns the entire Goa with its 10 km stretch of marvelous white sand and sparkling waves. Wake up early and go for a long walk on the beach, watch the seabirds and crabs and don’t miss to view the sunrise! Varca is a breath of fresh air to the soul and a wonderful place to refresh & recharge. While you are here, stay at Costa Holidays as it is very close to Varca beach. The Varca beach is not as commercialized and crowded as other major beaches of Goa. Instead, the quiet beach attracts visitors without fail since it is less crowded and cleaner than other big beaches. The Varca beach is ideal for lazing around and exploring local shacks. You can hire a boat and go out boating in the sea with an expert guide. You can also spot dolphins if you are lucky enough. There are numerous beach shacks offering a variety of Goan dishes and seafood at reasonable prices. One can also do some shopping therapy here. From a variety of funky jewelry made of seashells to colorful hats, clothes, bags, and other eye-catchy items are available in the hut shaped shops. 5) Arossim beach- Presents a long and white stretch of golden sand, lapped at by clear blue water and backed by a dense forest of palms. The beach is heaven not only for the party and leisure seekers but also for the adventure seekers. This beach offers various water sports activities viz: water surfing and sailing. There are plenty of eating options to choose from at and around the Arossim beach. To the hungry beach goer’s delight, there are quite a few beach shacks that offer fresh and delicious seafood. Just indulge! Know More about Goa: Read Here

Four Days in Dubai
After I unpacked my bag last Wednesday from my London/Brighton trip to see my girl I was told by my darling husband to re pack, as we were off to Dubai the next day. Just got back from 4 days in Dubai, first time in the Middle East and not a social visit so absolutely exhausted. We had to go for us to basically make the final decision on whether or not to sign on the dotted line to transfer there or not (and I had a few wee contacts of my own to see, but keeping quiet about them at the moment, due to my superstition) and of course this time wifey had to come along as she is the one who has the final yay or nay at the end of the day!. Firstly, 4 days is not enough to get a real feel for a place but, depending on your pace, and ours was approx. 4 hours sleep per night, you can get a fair idea. If I had to choose whether or not to live there according to the flight, then the deal is done! We travelled Economy Class, of course, but with United Emirates Airlines, it doesn't feel like economy. Three tunnels take you onto the aircraft, one for First class, one Business and us cattle classes in Economy. We had to pass through the last two aisles of Business to get to our seats without even a whiff of the champagne and caviar being served in First, but the sight of the business class was enough to make me wonder if they all sat through there in First Class in a Living Room setting with shag pile carpet, full four poster beds and a log fire! Our flight was wonderful. Five hours and 40 minutes of sheer relaxation. A warm fluffy blanket and big soft pillow on every seat, which reclined backward and outward for your legs. Huge TV/Computer/Games Station/CD Radio in front with 700 channels to choose from. All the latest movies, I watched, My Sisters Keeper, Julie& Julia a bit of Malcolm in the Middle and listened to some of the new Red Hot Chilly CD and we had arrived, being served three times in between with wines, and a wonderful three course meal. There was an under aircraft camera to watch the assent from Rome and descent into Dubai. As we approached Dubai airport the first thing that stuck me was the proximity of the airport to the actual city. The runway seemed to be in the very centre of all these magnificent buildings and I felt I could reach out and touch the tips of them. From the air Dubai has a skyline similar to Manhattan but on a grander scale and with the lights and glitz of Las Vegas thrown in. I could see the Burg Dubai (tallest building in the world) rising above them all and it was spectacular. We disembarked and the airport was not a disappointment after the flight. It was huge and as I stood at passport control I looked up and couldn’t see the where the building ended, all I could see where lights and water falls and sky trains whizzing past, I felt like I’d stepped into another century. All airport staff are fluent in English and are only too willing to assist you with any enquiries you may have with a smile. It took a fair hike to eventually arrive outside but of course we were standing on Travelators the whole time and trying to take in the sights of the airport. I never thought an airport would make me want to get the old camera out (unfortunately it was packed away). The floors were white glistening marble with the gleam of silver everywhere (had to keep on the Prada sunglasses, also to show these Arabs I’m a classy Italian broad), sparkly little fairy lights and fabulous water features accompanied by music. Never mind a bloody hotel, I thought, lets just go get some sleeping bags and park here for the 4 days! We wouldn’t have needed the sleeping bags as it turned out, with an abundance of leather reclining seats in front of TV’s and computers. The services offered inside the airport were also very impressive, a line of pristine baby buggies in wonderful Disney Technicolor lined one wall for complimentary use and looked like a baby had never had it’s nappy soaked bum near one. Outside the warm night air hit us. It was 11.30pm but still warm and me in my boots and padded jacket. Our dear friend from Rome Paolo was coming to pick us up. He’s been living and working there for just over a year now and we’ve known him for 13 years, so we trusted his judgment of life in Dubai. Outside there was a queue of limousines and hummer limos…………..does no one have a normal car in this city?? Apparently not, Paolo drove up in his huge 4 by 4 Merc! The drive to his apartment took all of 20 minutes and then I saw some of the real Dubai City!!!! I craned my neck out the window the entire journey as Stefano and Paolo chatted away and caught up after not seeing each other for some time. Row after row after row of the most spectacular examples of 21st century architecture lined the streets to my left. Each building making me gasp until the two second gap of the next. Apartments blocks, office blocks, hotels and restaurants each one more impressive than the other. To the right was the sea. A pier stretching as far as the eye could see in the shape of a palm tree full of hotels, swimming pools and talcum powder beaches. Paolo’s apartment was on the 22nd floor of a dark blue building, the glass looked dark blue from the outside but normal from the inside. His balcony had a sea view to the right with the Marina and all the amenities it had to offer, a pool directly below and the skyline of glittering, sky scrapping buildings to the left. We sat out there drinking and talking and laughing (Paolo’s girlfriend lives with him) till 4 am which was silly, since Stefano had to be up early in the morning and had a hectic few days ahead, but he managed! He went off to “Internet City”, the main office area of the city by 08.30hrs and I set off to check out the local area. Taxis are in abundance (just like Rome I hear you say…………….not), in fact, there is even no need to raise your arm or call for one, they seem to instinctively know you are coming to the road for a taxi and up they pull. Out gets the driver and opens the back door for you, with polite, thank you Madams and welcomes. All the locals speak perfect English I soon learnt, even though I insisted on speaking to everyone in Italian!!! Please don’t ask me why I did this, as I have no logical explanation why my seriously defective brain seems to work slightly different to the norm. After 4 days of doing this and seriously analysing why I would speak in Italian to these polite English speaking people, I can only assume it’s because in my brain they are foreign, and with all foreigners I speak Italian (I did it in Greece last year also) as that’s MY foreign language that I know! Does it make any sense to anyone? Please tell me it does! Shopping malls are pretty standard (by Dubai standards of course, think airport, sky trains and water features) but they had Marks and Spencer’s, Debenhams (dedicated to British readers) New Look, Top Shop………every single High Street British shop including, of course, Italian designer shops and the American chains, although I have to say it was a mainly British city from the signs (lift not elevator) and the electric plugs in the houses (heaven, adaptor stayed in the bag for 4 days). To give you an idea of the size of the mall it is equivalent to 73 football fields with over 700 shops (I read this outside;) and has an indoor ski resort in which you can ski or snow board or sledge the day away and swear as far as the eye can see that you were in the Alpine Mountains. Lisa, Paolo’s girlfriend and I headed down to check out the beach which was a 5 minutes walk from the apartment. The beach had long white sandy beaches running into the crystal clear sea, the Persian Gulf, (surely they can’t have cleaned that up manually as well?) which gave me time to digest my lunch and listen to some tunes on my ipod whilst catching some much missed sun rays. Since it is after all November, it started to get a wee bit chilly around 6pm, so we headed up to the apartment and joined our men folk in the pool for a swim. Whilst swimming my laps of the pool I see three women chatting away at the side of the pool and detect Scottish accents. Swimming a little closer, not only are they Scottish but from Glasgow so I casually, accidentally swim up to them and say, “Hi, are those Scottish accents I hear?” “Yes, one of them replies “I’m from Newlands” We get into a wee bit of chit chat and discuss how long they’ve been living there (one 9 years, one 5 years and one a sister who’s just visiting) and why we are there and I’m trying to decide if it’s for me. I ask if they like living there and the two that live there say it’s like living in paradise. “So?”, one says, “What do you think, do you like it”. “Well I can’t really tell at this point as it’s only been a day and at the moment I kind of know how Scarlett Johansson felt in Lost in Translation, it all feels a bit like a golden cage and surreal to me. “Where have you come from?” she asks, to which I answer Rome, I’ve been living in Rome for the last 6 years. “AAAAhhh” she says with a look of disgust on her face, “well if you can cope with living in Rome you can cope with living anywhere!!!!!” well (directed to my Italian friends and other international friends living in Rome) it was like someone had insulted my kid! You know that feeling? Like, you can moan and complain about your own kids all you want but,……………. if someone else does!!! I thought, you cheeky cow, I never thought I would feel so defensive about Rome. I told her I think I would miss the history and the piazza’s and the general integration and embracement of the Italian culture, but was still feeling a little shell shocked by her comment when Stefano, who was eaves dropping said, “So you’re from Glasgow?”, Yes she said, we moved from Glasgow to here. “Well”, says Stefano, “I suppose anywhere would feel like Paradise straight from Glasgow!” Shabam!!!! and he swam away leaving me smiling and wondering how I never manage to think of smart comments at the right time. First night dinner was had at the Royal Hotel Meridian, the hotels seem to be the place where all the local expats hang out for drinks and eating as alcohol is not served in pavement open air cafes. No idea what the star rating is of this hotel as it seems to be the same rating as every hotel I have seen but if I worked for the AA hotel rating system, I would give this a big 10 star rating. I felt like a super star. When I went to the bathroom the door was opened for me and I reluctantly stepped into the cubicle, checking my back that she wasn’t following me in to wipe my ass. She very discreetly left the restroom and returned when she heard me open my door with a clean hot towel and even put on the bloomin tap, (hey, this kind of service was giving to me in Starbucks that morning, not quite on that level but not too far off). I returned to find the waiter rush tomy chair for my return. I really wanted to say, like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, “Look darlin, I’m a sure thing, I’ve been living in Rome for 6 years and I’m impressed if you say sorry after bumping into me, it’s really easy, no need for this, honest!”. The guys went inside to choose the fish and lobsters that were still swimming around happily, so I declined. The most amazing fish and crab was served and eaten by all (we were joined by another couple who are friends of Paolo’s) and we then walked down to the hotel swimming pool and drank some drinks under the gazebo and looked out over at the spectacular grounds. Stefano and I went for a walk in the gardens and he put his arm around me and said, this is the life I have always wanted to give you, would you rather be here or in Rome right now. I looked around and said, without a doubt it is spectacular and breathtaking but honestly………….I’d rather be snuggled up with my huge log fire crackling away under our blanket watching TV in Rome! Over in the bar we could hear some English football being watched by some Brits on a big screen TV and some Scottish accents in the balmy night air. We left to go onto another bar called Budda Bar which was in an Indian style,(I suppose the clue is in the name) and had a cocktail before deciding at around 2am that since we had to get up at 08.30am we had better head for home. Another step out into the night with a taxi stopping before you even know if you need one yourself and another fare of 10 dirham’s which is less than 2 euro’s (10 dirham’s is 1.80 euro) and when we gave him a 20 he was most grateful. By the way, we took a taxi back to the airport which is around 25-30 minutes and it cost 12 euro, with luggage and helping in and out of the car. We both walked down to the seafront at lunchtime the next day relaxed and knowing that the work part was over and lets really see this place. We stopped into Starbucks and had a coffee and decided to drive up the desert and go sand dune quad biking. The drive wasn’t long, around 45 mins before we reached a landscape untouched by human hand of approx. 2,500 miles of desert. It was still bright and sunny when we paid for our buggies and all four of us headed over to the “practice area” to get the hang of the buggies before excitedly driving through the gate and heading straight for the desert. The first mile or so you can see that people have been coming here at night and having bonfires or whatever and leaving their rubbish behind (bastards!) but after that it’s miles and miles and miles of swooping dunes and wind brushed sand with no sign of human touch. In the distance a few wild camels and apart from that just…………..nothing! It was such fun! Stefano took a dune a bit too cockily and toppled his buggy over but apart from his pride, nothing was hurt! The sun started to set and we all four stopped at the top of a huge dune around 60 ft high and watched this wonderful sight. You feel the silence and no one said anything for a few minutes (which believe me is a wonderment in itself from Paolo). Then once again we were off all racing along and over taking one another and we all reached the top of a dune at the same time and braked hard to look down at a straight vertical drop of around 60 feet. We all parked and looked down and decided that we wouldn’t take the chance and put the buggies into reverse, we lacked the needed adrenaline rush of an 18 year old at this point and with a combined age of around 150 years, we all headed back to the flag in the distance, which was our marker flag for returning the buggies. What a fabulous experience. That night we went out for a Persian meal in a restaurant set on a channel not unlike sitting in Venice, only a few years younger. Again, first class service, first class meal and wonderful wine. We thought about going to the cinema one night but decided it was really silly to go to the cinema when we had such little time and you can go to the cinema anywhere, although looking at the website of the nearest cinema was enough entertainment in itself. Huge individual leather reclining lazy boys in pairs or fours. All with waitress service of meals, wines or snacks accomplished by the push of a button on your chair. Basically, to summarise the rest of the trip was very short indeed and I would have loved to have had another week or two there. We slipped away early one morning, insisting that Paolo stay in bed as taxi’s are so cheap, and there we were back in the wonderful airport where I felt I had been in only yesterday. Whilst waiting for my flight I popped into the toilet to be greeted by another towel/open door woman and thought, how will I survive without you in Rome? We landed at Fiumicino airport in the morning and before going outside to call the Park&Go guy to get our car I ran into the tobacco shop to buy cigarettes. As the woman threw my change down on the counter ignoring my outstretched hand and saying nothing but nodding to the next customer to tell her what he wanted I thought, yip, back in Italy, a vero?. In conclusion…………….we spent a very stressful next few hours back at home discussing back and forth the pro’s and con’s of staying in Rome or leaving and working and living in Dubai. I would miss my house terribly, and the friends I have made. Stefano would miss the outdoor life and his horses. I would miss my dogs. He looked like a 12 year old boy at one point and I felt so bad for him that he couldn’t make the decision. If we don’t like it we can stay a minimum of one year perhaps 18 months. If we do……….. indefinitely. The house here in Rome will always be ours, we will rent it out and in fact already have an interested family without even having advertised. Chris will come live with us when he finishes school and there are an abundance of British Colleges and Universities although I think he has his heart set on sailing school. I would spend July and August in Rome to escape the 50 degree temperatures over there and to have Jen over for the summer as that’s where all her friends will be returning from University for the summer are and where she feels is home. She will of course come to Dubai to visit us and I will go there, but we already agreed that if this job was taken, that summers would be spent in a rented apartment in the city centre of Rome. Without talking about finances, although it’s hard not to as they are incomparable, I would be able to go to Brighton and see Jen whenever I wanted to without worrying about how much the flight was and staying as long as I wanted.  I could go up to Glasgow to see Chris for the next year or so till he is with us also or have him come down for weekends in Brighton. Money would be no issue. We have made the decision. It’s a yes!

Observing With Care - Veronica x Fem!Reader - requested
Masterlist
@idle-lanes @sgarrett49 @murderyoursoul @moonlight53 @redhairedoddity
Anonymous said: thanks for responding so quickly, what i was thinking about is maybe you could do something where it's like movie night at ronnie's house and it's just the two of them, and they kind of stay up together all night being fluffy and watching cute movies??
A/N: Hope this is what you wanted. Thanks for reading and the request!
Music while Writing: (started to listening to a playlist of stuff I listened to as an 11 year old) Joni Mitchell “Big Yellow Taxi”, Carole King “I Feel the Earth Move”, Janis Joplin “Me and Bobby McGee”, Beach Boys “In My Room”.
You stood in front of the door nervous.
To be honest - you had nervous feelings towards Veronica Lodge since the day you laid eyes on her. To say she was enchanting would have been an understatement. She sparked something in you. Feelings you had never really felt for another person. She was fiery, outspoken and was someone that knew very much who she was. And she embraced it.
And there you were, standing in front of her door - a little scared to knock on it.
It had been the night of Jughead’s birthday party - which granted, wasn’t a great night for the gang overall. The only plus side had been the two seconds that Veronica gave you a peck on the lips while dancing. You walked her home that night, as the both of you were too drunk to do much else. However, during that entire walk, you had butterflies in your stomach.
It had been 5 days since the party - and Veronica had invited you over for a movie night. You had figured she invited the rest of the gang as well but was surprised when Betty hadn’t heard of the plans for the night. Neither had Kevin - who gave an arched eyebrow, knowing your feelings for Veronica. He waited until Betty left the booth in Pop’s and then came closer over the table to you. “So, does this count as a date then?”
You were timid. Part of you didn’t think you were worthy enough for The Veronica Lodge. She was too amazing - too great of a person for you. When she moved to town, the both of you were able to open up about each other’s lives quite easily. You had never found yourself so drawn to a single person. “We were drunk...maybe she doesn’t even remember?”
“Just go tonight and tell me what happens? I’m sure it will be everything you want it to”. Kevin got up from the booth - giving a slight pat to your shoulder, as you waited in anticipation for what the night had planned before you.
The door was white with some rather elaborate molding around it. A place much more grand than you had ever been in. You huffed some breath and finally knocked.
There was Veronica, beautiful as always but with a rather large smile on her face. You couldn’t help but notice that her eyes darted up and down at the sight of you.
She invited you in and you gave a small “Thanks” in reply.
“So my mom is out and I thought we would have some nice drinks and snacks planned”, you followed her to the kitchen where you saw a rather sophisticated pitcher of a red drink that had some fruit floating in it. Veronica caught your eyes, “It’s called Sangria. You’ll like it, trust me”. You saw some chips and such laid around but they laid on top of some silver trays quite strategically. Veronica got some glasses and plates and handed a full glass of Sangria to you. You took a careful sip, then realizing that you did enjoy the taste on your tongue. “So, what movies did you have in mind Lodge?”. You had somehow finally found your coy side even though on the inside you were a nervous wreck.
Veronica gave a smile that had a smirk attached to it - quickly grabbing your free hand to follow her. You kept a firm grip on the glass in your other hand - as you were too excited by Veronica’s touch. She glided you to the large couch, making you sit down while she reached to the coffee table behind her grabbing some movie cases - you could see excitement within her stance.
“Alright, so I KNOW you aren’t into romantic films or anything so I picked out these. You decide which ones we watch first”. She handed you the small stack while you set your drink down. You looked at the covers, being quite impressed by her choices - as they were all movies you truly did enjoy. A copy of How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Rear Window, and Murder on the Orient Express all laid in your hands.
You gave a smile as she had obviously listened that one day during your rant of classic films. “I love all of these choices V”. She seemed pleased with herself in your response.
“Well come on then! Choose one! You are my guest so I don’t care which one”. She smiled.
You took another sip of your drink and decided to go for being a little flirtatious - as you were thinking that maybe this was a date after all. “Well, which one have you not seen?”, you pulled her down to the couch beside you.
She gave a soft giggle at your action and pointed to Murder on the Orient Express. “You are going to love this. And I’m going to get you into some Agatha Christie literature after this”. You got up, making your way towards the television, placing the movie inside of the dvd player. You went back to your seat as Veronica reached for both her drink as well as the remote. You slouched a little into the corner of the couch as Veronica was guiding the remote through the films menu. The movie began to start, and before you knew it, Veronica’s legs had found a comfortable spot on your lap. After a few minutes (as well as a few more sips of your drink) you began to gently rub one of her ankles with your hand. After a little, you swore you could hear Veronica give a slight sigh to your touch.
You were barely paying attention to the movie at this point, as the butterflies in your stomach became heightened. Veronica then shifted her body to yours, inching your bodies closer, her legs still draped over you. She then reached for your hand while trying to keep her eyes on the film before you. With her thumb, she slightly rubbed the back of your hand. While you tensed a little at her touch, you began to relax into it. Her head soon found its way to your shoulder.
You decided to take a leap. You arched your back slightly and wrapped an arm around Veronica’s waist. She gave a sigh at the action as you both melted a bit into each others bodies.
Thoughts kept replaying in your mind from the party. You found yourself interrupting the movie to finally ask a question that had been on your mind for days. “So...you remember everything from Jughead’s party then?”. Your eyes stayed on the screen as you found yourself nervous beyond belief.
Veronica shifted her body up, taking her legs off of your lap but leaned her face closer to yours. She caught the attention of your eyes, a large smile on her face adorned. Her palm went to the side of your face, her thumb lightly rubbing the side of your chin. “Of course I do”. She brought your lips to hers and gave a chaste kiss to them. She pulled away slightly to make sure the action was okay. She could tell by the blush and large smile on your face that it certainly was. She rested a longer kiss on your lips, both of them finding a synchronized movement to each other. While parting, she gave a peck to your chin. She snuggled her body close to yours again, your hand finding her waist again as she rested her head on your shoulder.
This night had been much better than expected.

Kurtbastian fic - “Love, Blood, and Demon Nature: Chapter 6 - The Benefits of Being Damned” (Rated NC17)
After Kurt gets over the shock of how being bonded to Sebastian has changed the both of them, now he gets close to an eternity to relish the perks. (1400 words)
I just thought I would check in on these two, seeing as we left them on kind of a bittersweet note. This takes place just a few months or so after the last chapter.
Read on AO3.
“So, how was the honeymoon?” Kurt asks, weaving an arm through Mercedes’s as they rush down the sidewalk together, a late autumn breeze helping them along as they head for the curb to hail a cab.
“Oh my God! Cancún was gorgeous!” Mercedes gushes.
“Was it?” Kurt glances to his right and smiles at a stoic Sebastian standing beside him. His seraph looks stunning in a three piece suit underneath a full length, cashmere coat. He even went so far as to wear a scarf and gloves, even though he’s completely unaffected by the October chill. To avoid suspicion, he employs his demon powers to add an appropriate splotch of pink to the cheeks of his human disguise, as well as to the tips of his ears.
“Oh, absolutely!” she says. “You should have seen it.”
“I wish I had.”
“The moment the two of you can get away, I highly recommend it,” Mercedes says, leaning forward to include Sebastian in the conversation. “The water was so clear, we could see straight down to the bottom. And the fish! Oh! I never imagined fish could be so colorful! I had a tropical fish tank growing up, but the fish in it were always grey. Remember that, Kurt? Remember my ridiculous fish tank full of grey fish!?”
“I remember.” Kurt nods and smiles politely as Mercedes continues on about the wonder that is Mexico and the Caribbean, biting his tongue because he knows what Cancún looks like. He’s been there, several times. And not just to the beaches, but to the ocean floor and back. He knows what Egypt looks like from the top of the pyramids. He’s basked naked beneath a full moon on the head of the Great Sphinx of Giza.
Kurt has even seen the planet Neptune, up close and personal.
He has no desire to go back.
Being bonded to a demon does have its perks, like the ability to travel around the world in the blink of an eye, explore places that mere mortals will never have the chance to see – the highest mountain peaks; the deepest, most inaccessible caves; the vacuum of space; the Earth’s molten core.
Like Kurt’s increased health and physical strength, which offers him the ability to do the type of outlandish, daredevil things he’s always wanted to try but was too scared to do – skydiving, rock climbing, bungee jumping, tightrope walking.
But probably Kurt’s favorite thing of all about being Sebastian’s soulmate is Sebastian’s insatiable sexual appetite.
And his ability to stop time in its tracks.
Three blocks away from The Four Seasons, Kurt notices Mercedes’s voice begin to slow. The cars around them roll to a stop. The people rushing by stand stone still mid-step. The leaves on the trees, tumbling to the ground, stopping in thin air.
“Sebastian!” Kurt scolds, but with a smile on his face as his soulmate strips off his suit and morphs into his demon form. Normally, Sebastian wouldn’t care an inch about the condition of his clothes. He’d let his body tear right through them. He could always glamour up a new suit, make the humans around them believe he was dressed. But the suit he’s wearing, Kurt made for him for their nights out on the town. Kurt knows he doesn’t have to considering Sebastian’s phenomenal and varied powers, but he wants to. He wants to do special things for Sebastian because he loves Sebastian.
So Sebastian treats his suit like gold.
The same way he treats his human soulmate.
“Come on,” Sebastian hisses, pulling Kurt from his best friend’s side and taking him into his arms. “Just a quickie.”
“The last quickie we had lasted three hours!” Kurt giggles as Sebastian starts to palm his ass, careful not to “accidentally” slice the clothes off Kurt’s body with his razor-sharp nails.
“Yeah …” Sebastian grins, black lips splitting into a smile that would paralyze most humans where they stood. But it turns Kurt on like crazy “… but it was an awesome three hours, wasn’t it?”
“Yeah,” Kurt agrees. “It really was.”
“We’ve got all the time in the world,” Sebastian reminds him. “We can take a few hours for ourselves and fuck.” He looks around Kurt’s body at Mercedes stopped at the curb, arm raised to summon a taxi. After fifteen dinners and one weekend spent at her house in Manhattan, Sebastian found he actually likes her. She’s a bubbly, energetic, compassionate, Christian woman, but Sebastian doesn’t hold any of those things against her. She’s Kurt’s best friend and Sebastian was determined to make an effort to know her.
That wasn’t seraph Sebastian’s idea. That was the bit of Kurt embedded inside his soul that sometimes compels him to be a decent being.
But they haven’t been completely honest with her. Mercedes knows Kurt’s soulmate as human, 6’ 2” with lightly tanned skin, brown hair, and green eyes - a recluse living off his trust fund, with no intentions of doing anything else with his life other than to make Kurt a happy man.
Kurt and Sebastian haven’t told her that Sebastian’s a demon. They haven’t told anyone. They don’t know how they’d be received by the public if they did. So, for now, it’s their little secret.
Besides, it makes sex hotter that way, with no one knowing what Sebastian really looks like, the things he can do, or the changes that being bonded to him has brought about in Kurt - the scales hiding beneath Kurt’s clothes, the way his tongue becomes reptilian … or the way his eyes glow red with Sebastian buried inside him.
“Where do you want to do this?” Sebastian asks, knowing that Kurt’s not about to say no to him. They can’t ever seem to say no to one another. “Right here on the sidewalk?”
Kurt looks down at the ground beneath his feet – hard, cold, and filthy. “Ugh! That would be a no.”
“Okay,” Sebastian says, rolling his red eyes. “Under the trees in Central Park?”
“Oh, sure. Just us and the muggers. Très romantique.”
“Your penthouse then?
“How about …” Kurt rolls his eyes up as if thinking, but Sebastian knows he already has a place in mind “… Cancún?”
“Mmm.” Sebastian chuckles, closing in on Kurt’s neck – Sebastian’s favorite spot to abuse. Kurt is so sensitive there, his skin so delicate. It shows a tremendous amount of trust in Sebastian that Kurt lets him suck and bite there, knowing the damage his tongue and teeth can do. “You’re a naughty little minx. You know that, don’t you?” Sebastian licks up Kurt’s neck. A blistering, red trail forms beneath Sebastian’s tongue, that turns to silver as it cools – the shadow of the demon that inhabits Kurt counteracting the burn, cooling his skin. The hot and cold clash in the chasm Sebastian’s tongue creates on Kurt’s skin, leaving a scar. And Kurt moans – so loudly that it makes the stars above them switch positions for a moment, then pop back in place.
“But you love me that way, don’t you?”
“I love you anyway I can get you,” Sebastian whispers, slowly slipping open the buttons on Kurt’s shirt.
“Ooo, I like the sound of that,” Kurt hums, helping Sebastian with the buttons, starting from the bottom up so he doesn’t lose too many along the way. Sebastian is pretty good at not shredding Kurt’s clothes, but when his hands start trembling with excitement – the way they are now – he can’t always be held responsible for his actions. “How about you choose the where, and I’ll choose the way.”
“Deal,” Sebastian says, shooting off into the air with Kurt in his arms. Kurt has long since gotten over his fear of flying, not that he ever had anything to fear in Sebastian’s embrace. And the swoops that take over his stomach are only in anticipation of what might happen next.
But Kurt has plans of his own.
“So, I know I get to choose the place, but do you have any preferences?” Sebastian asks. “Hot or cold? Day or night? Wet or dry?”
“I don’t care,” Kurt says, clinging to Sebastian’s body with nails driving into his flanks the way he knows Sebastian loves. “As long as it’s a place with handcuffs.”
“I was hoping you’d say that,” Sebastian growls, especially after Kurt bares his fangs and drives them into Sebastian’s neck. “Home it is.”
