I’ve been asked to explain my kit and my workflow by @savage-daughter-of-nikitie.

I use either a Canon 80D, Canon 5D Mk IV or a Sony A7Riv with a sigma MC-11 mount converter. I also have a Canon 300D and a Canon 70D from both of which I have removed the internal infrared filter, so that I can shoot in the Infrared.

I have a number of tripods and LED light panels which I sometimes use, but for most general things I prefer to use natural light with perhaps a small reflector.

Lens-wise, my aviation photography is done using either a Sigma 60-600mm f/4.5-6.3 OS DG Sports or a Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L MkI.

For other general photography such as landscapes and when I do portraits, (which I don’t post here). I have a range of lenses but my favourites are:

* Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8l USM

* Canon 50mm f/1.8

* Lensbaby Velvet 56mm f/1.6

* Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 (this won’t fit on the Sony / MC-11 combo)

For macro photography I generally use either a Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM macro or, very occasionally, a Canon MP-E 65mm 1-5x Macro with a lot of light and a macro rail.

I occasionally use a Newer variable ND e.g to slow flowing water and I have various intervalometers, and all of the Pluto Trigger and Dripper kit for water droplets or complex triggering.

I also use my phone camera more and more and then achieve effects in Lightroom, Photoshop or Topaz AI

My workflow varies depending upon the type of photography. By way of an example, for the flower studies my workflow is:

1. Photos were taken on a variety of kit, mainly my phone.

2. Import into Lightroom

3. Square crop the flower and rotate to get the best light/symmetry/arrangement.

4. Use Lightroom’s Subject Mask to initially mask the flower and refine using brush addition/subtraction

5. Duplicate and invert the mask to effectively mask the background

6. Set exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, whites, blacks and saturation to zero. This removes the background allowing the flower to stand alone but gives me the option to recover the background should I wish to later.

7. At this point any issues with masking become very noticeable so I will often refine both flower and background masks once more.

8. Return to the flower mask and set the exposure, contrast, white balance, response curves, saturation and sharpness as required, to make the flower pop.

9. I often apply radial masks to even the exposure or highlight the inner or outer sections at this point.

10. Use the heal tools to remove pollen specs, imperfections or other issues. Lightroom’s content aware AI healing is extremely good these days.

11. I then catalogue, add metadata, and export to a number of private and public storage and distribution services.

I have two projects I want to start as we move into winter, life permitting.

Firstly, I want to try to do some star trails. Near where I live there is a park on an escarpment running east west, with a couple of stone crosses that can be photographed from the south with the Polaris (the North Star, which is the centre or rotation in the night sky) just above the top of one of them.

I also want to play more with my 70D and do some more IR photography. This makes warmer parts of the scene brighter and cooler darker and can lead to some eerie effects. I have a long standing desire to visit a certain chateau in France and photograph it in IR.

This is probably way more than you were asking for and I’m not sure is this is what you wanted to know, but I hope it helps.

axel_r_bollmanns Frederick William IV (1795 - 1861) had the entire ensemble of Peace Church, Marly Garden and Peace Garden laid out between 1844 - 1854 with an iconography strongly influenced by his deep religiosity.

In Sanssouci Park near the main entrance is the Peace Church (left). King Frederick William IV drew the first design of the church based on the Roman Basilica of San Clemente and had it built by his master builder Ludwig Persius. The church is surrounded by the Friedensteich (peace pond). A portico leads there through the Redeemer's Gate. The Royal Couple from Sanssouci Palace used to come to church through this gate. The church is romantically reflected in the calm surface of the water. The King had wanted it that way, so the pond was created and sealed with a layer of clay.

Behind the colonnade is the Emperor Frederick Mausoleum, which was added later. Crown Prince Frederick William ascended the throne in March 1888 at the age of 56, seriously ill, called himself Frederick III and went down in history as the 99-Day Emperor, as he died on 15 June of the same year. A year after his death, the architect Julius Carl Raschdorff (1823 - 1914), presumably at the instigation of his widow, Empress Victoria (1840 - 1901), who by now called herself "Empress Frederick", was commissioned to build him an appropriate mausoleum. Little Trinity Anglican Church No 1.

Constructed in 1843 and rebuilt after a 1889 addition was almost completely destroyed by a fire in 1961, Little Trinity Anglican Church at No 425 King St E in the Corktown neighbourhood of Toronto Canada is the oldest surviving church in the city. The building was designated a Heritage Property by The City of Toronto in 2002.

Hi snoot friend! I just made a purchase for a new canon 6d mark ii! i probably won't be able to buy any lenses anytime soon, but i could totally rent some! what were your favorite lenses to use with your canon and what types of photos did you use them for?

oh!!! aa that’s a v good camera ur gonna love it!! ok so, my all time favorite lens was absolutely any form of 24-105mm f4 lens, be it canon’s, sigma’s, or tamron’s, they’re SO versatile tbh. i’d suggest looking for a used canon 24-105mm f4 (mark i) on either amazon, ebay, B&H photo, or somewhere like that! that’s the one i used, and there’s not a huge difference between that and the new ones :O but anyway, the constant f4 aperture is v nice and bright enough for daily stuff, and they’re always optically stabilized lenses, which is another huge benefit :O it goes from wide angle at 24mm to a nice amount of zoom at 105mm, and just,, aa it was my fave lens hands down and i used it for everything besides like.. wildlife ig! 

but as far as other important lenses, and way more affordable ones, u should def pick up canon’s 50mm f1.8, it’s one of the most popular lenses ever just bc 50mm gives a really natural field of view, and the wide aperture makes it rlly handy for portraits where u wanna blur out the background! also it’s $100 which is.. ok a lot of money but for photography that’s rlly affordable! also ur using is on a full frame camera, so the lens will blur out of focus areas even more than usual OWO

i think those two lenses are honestly the ones i would recommend first, i don’t rlly have many other instant fave lenses hmM. yeah those two pretty much cover a TON of your bases as a photographer!! but other lenses that i really liked using, but were a bit more niche, was a macro lens (laowa 60mm f2.8 ultra macro lens heehee) and any wildlife lens :O those are two types of photography that i’ve always really loved, they’re good lenses to have on hand if you think it’s something u would be interested in! bc there’s always something to take pics of yknow?

Để có thể chụp ảnh macro, bạn có thể sẽ cần tới rất nhiều phụ kiện đắt tiền để có những bức ảnh đẹp, đôi khi bạn cũng chỉ cần một máy ảnh và ống kính rồi sử dụng ánh sáng tự nhiên là có thể tạo những tác phẩm đẹp. Nhiếp ảnh macro đòi hòi sự cầu kì và sáng tạo, bạn như bước vào một thế giới bé nhỏ hoàn toàn mới không giống như bạn chụp phong cảnh hay chân dung hay thể thao. Dưới đây là cẩm nang hướng dẫn bạn từ chọn phụ kiện đến cách chụp, ánh sáng để tạo được bức ảnh macro đẹp nhất.

Filter Macro là loại filter đặc biệt giúp bạn có thể chụp gần hơn, thế nhưng chất lượng của loại filter này không được đánh giá cao. Với filter này, bạn có thể sử dụng trên bất kỳ ống kính nào vừa và có thể ngay lập tức sử dụng. Thế nhưng nếu bạn không biết chắc mình có thích và muốn đầu tư vào thể loại này hay không, bạn có thể thử sử dụng một filter macro để trải nghiệm thử. Bạn có thể sẽ có rất nhiều trải nghiệm thú vị.

Lens Macro

Nếu sau khi thử sử dụng filter macro hay extention tube, bạn cảm thấy rất hứng thú và yêu thích thể loại ảnh thì để tiến sâu hơn vào thế giới tuyệt đẹp macro, bạn nên trang bị cho mình môt ống kính macro để có những trải nghiệm và bức ảnh đẹp nhất.

Đây là những ống kính đa năng, không chỉ giúp bạn có những bức ảnh macro đẹp khi cần mà bạn hoàn toàn có thể sử dụng trong nhiều tình huống khác như chụp chân dung mà vẫn mang đến một kết quả tốt và đẹp.

Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro: đây là ống kính rất được nhiều nhiếp ảnh gia khuyên dùng, cũng như nhiều ống kính khác, ống kính này vẫn còn gặp vấn đề trong bắt nét nhưng đó cũng không hẳn là vấn đề quá lớn. Ống kính mang đến cho bạn một mức giá vừa phải nhưng kết quả thu được cực kỳ ấn tượng.

Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro: Nếu như bạn sử dụng Nikon hay Sony, đây là lựa chọn tốt cho bạn. Có mức giá rẻ nhưng kết quả mà ống kính mang lại thực sự rất ấn tượng. Ngoài ra bạn cũng có thể quan tâm đến 105mm f/2.8 Macro của Nikon cũng là lựa chọn “đắt sắt ra miếng”.

Extension tube có 3 loại tiêu cự, 36mm, 20mm và 12mm. Chúng có thể kết hợp với nhau để đạt độ phóng đại cao nhất. Với mức giá rất rẻ đây là phụ kiện bạn có thể sử dụng thêm nhưng đồng nghĩa với việc bạn sẽ phải đánh đổi với lượng ánh sáng đi đến cảm biến ít hơn.

Mỗi nhiếp anh gia macro là một đầu bếp trong “chế biến” ánh sáng. Điều khiển ánh sáng trong nhiếp ảnh macro cực kỳ khó, đặc biệt khi bạn sử dụng thêm một phụ kiện kèm theo như đèn flash đặc biệt.

Không phải là bạn không thể chụp macro trong điều kiện ánh sáng tự nhiên, và sử dụng ánh sáng tự nhiên có rất nhiều hạn chế trong nhiếp ảnh macro.

Đầu tiên bạn cần một ngày thật sáng, sau đó chỉnh ISO lên thật cao, khép khẩu rất sâu vì khí dí sát ống kính vào chủ thể, bạn sẽ không muốn độ chi tiết bị giảm. Thế nhưng không phải lúc nào côn trùng cũng ở vị trí đủ sáng để bạn thực hiện bức ảnh. Và bạn cũng cần phải cân nhắc đến sự chênh lệch giữa 2 vùng sáng tối trong bức ảnh. Chưa kể đến những loài chỉ thích ở trong bóng tối hay các khu vực có ánh sáng kém.

Sử dụng bộ tản sáng cũng không phải ý kiến tồi, nhưng tất nhiên, bạn vẫn sẽ cần một ngày nắng đẹp, tản sáng sẽ có tác dụng chiếu sáng cho vùng tối, làm sáng chủ thể của bạn.

Vấn đề khi sử dụng tản sáng là bạn sẽ cần đến một trợ lý hay vừa chụp vừa điều chỉnh tản sáng để có thể chắc chắn mọi thứ đều làm việc hiệu quả. Với nhiếp ảnh macro, bạn sẽ cần phải di chuyển rất nhiều, và để có thể vừa dùng tản sáng, vừa sử dụng máy ảnh,… bạn có thể dễ dàng dọa côn trùng khiến chúng bỏ đi. Bức ảnh minh họa ở trên được chụp vào một ngày rất sáng và sử dụng một tản trắng 48cm để đánh ánh sáng trực tiếp vào chú ong. Lúc này tốc độ màn chập là 1/200s và ISO 320.

Flash dành cho macro có mức giá khá đắt. Nếu lúc đầu bạn không muốn bỏ một số tiền lớn vào flash, bạn có thể cân nhắc một số flash có mức giá khoảng từ 100 đến 200 USD. Đây là loại flash dạng vòng và được đặt cố định phía trước để cung cấp ánh sáng cho chủ thể. Tuy nhiên một nhược điểm của loại flash này là khiến ánh sáng rất gắt. Và bạn cũng cần lưu ý tới tốc độ giữa đèn flash và máy ảnh, vì có thể chúng quá chậm khiến bạn hạn chế trong một số tình huống cần chụp rất nhanh.

Ngoài flash dạng vòng thì bạn cũng có thể sử dụng các flash rời thông thường. Cùng với phụ kiện để làm dịu ánh sáng phát ra từ đèn flash, bạn có thể tạo ra kha khá các bức ảnh tuyệt vời.

Khác với flash nghiệp dư, gần như chỉ cần lắp vào và chụp, các flash cao cấp trong macro đòi hỏi bạn cần hiểu cách sử dụng và tập làm quen với chúng. Bù lại bạn có thể nhiều chế độ điều chỉnh ánh sáng hơn theo ý mình muốn đặc biệt khi bạn sử dụng một ống kính như MP-E 65mm đặc biệt của Canon.

Cho dù ở bất kỳ thể loại nhiếp ảnh nào thì việc biết các thông số để chụp ảnh cũng là điều rất quan trọng. Trong phần lớn trường hợp, bạn sẽ cần sử dụng tốc độ flash là 1/200s và khi các con côn trùng, bạn sẽ muốn sử dụng với tốc độ nhanh nhất có thể.

Khẩu độ: Có rất nhiều người lầm tưởng trong nhiếp ảnh macro, bạn càng mở khẩu lớn để vùng nét càng nhỏ càng tốt, nhưng như vậy nghĩa là bạn đã nhầm. Thông thường, mọi người vẫn để khẩu độ tại f/11, thiết lập này cho độ nét tối ưu nhất. Bạn nên khép khẩu từ f/7.1 khi chụp macro.

More recent work: I shot this with my Nikon D7200 and the Sigma 24-105mm f/4 Art lens. I edited in Lightroom and cropped it to 16 x 9 perspective, then added the frame in Snapseed, giving it a look similar to what you might expect from an old half frame film camera. To me, the frame helps the image stand out from the background.
