Chapter 9 - Opening narration!
Alright so it has been ages since i last posted a chapter but i managed to finish this chapter last night so here you go.
Last time on Geneaology of the Holy War : Seliph wanted to help his loser cousin to retake his kingdom, and met a guy who pretended to be Lewyn’s kid. Blume got fried, but some dragon knights are attacking us, for some reason. So we - F!Lewyn - decided to invade their country!
Meath, which is, as the map points out but the narration doesn’t, in Thracia’s borders.
“so we conquered a castle from another country. What should we do? Retreat? They’re not part of the Empire, are they?”
Not “beyond Meath” Finn, Meath is a part of the draconknights’ kingdom! Who taught you how to read a map?
Rural? As in, opposed to the urbanised collective of free cities known as Miletos? And look, Travant has some sort of coalitiion with Arvis. Now that’s a piece news! Idk if Arvis wanted to conquer Thracia or if he just went the “fig it” route. Maybe Travant managed to fend off Blume’s forces for years so Arvis said we’re making a “fig it, you’re not a part of my empire but if you attack me i toast you” kind of alliance.
All of the states have been conquered though - some by Siggy, let’s not forget that. Like, Verdane and Augstria even if it wasn’t in the name of the Granvalle Empire but in the name of stupidity the Kingdom of Granvalle
Travant’s minions?! Come on Finn! Don’t call them like that :’(
Hey it’s tht guy who arrested Othin and Halvan because they looked like brigands and Finn didn’t raise a finger to get them out of this situation-
That guy oozes trust, i mean, have you seen him? As long as he doesn’t invite us to a party, i don’t see any reason not to trust that good Distler guy.
Loptyrian agent - like a secret agent? OTOH it’s funny because Travant needs a loptyrian agent to secure one of his castle - like what, he doesn’t have enough Thracian generals? “where’s that Dean guy? He has a broken prf lance! He kind of betrayed to run away with your son’s fiancée and some buffon in white!”
Showdown? Well, i’d call it invasion but...
No :’( Othin’s grandma, how dare you! At least she seems to agree that this is an invasion...
ooh! Armed peasants? So do we canonically kill many Donnels or Ronans in this map?
Hm... I’d say for Leif because FE4 Leif really wants to kill Travant, but also because F!Lewyn wants Travant gone - well it’s all because of Travant, but you don’t storm a country to kill its king and then return to your own business, i mean it was what happened in Verdane and Agustria and we all know how it ended!
But i confess, there may be some tactical value in removing Arvis’ only ally from the chessboard.
“I fear i’m doing something stupid just like my dad did” “don’t worry Lord Seliph!”
I won’t kill civilians i mean i’m their princess damn it!
Travant’s scolding Alty!
Oh that’s what Finn meant by “minion”! If only he knew what Arion was doing behind his back, or Alty herself...
... Well the guy charged and ignored her orders - granted that’s true, an entire platoon tried to attack Faval and died :’( Rip dead dracoknights.
You know what? That line from Alty could also be adressed to Quan in a Jugdral AU where Quan raised his daughter Alty and he continued to be an ass about food and tariffs.
They are proud but also desperate. Pride means nothing to an empty stomach, but without pride you’ll turn into people like the Northeners.
Alty asked a difficult question, one Arion never raised even once. Or maybe Arion thinks that they can’t change their situation, no matter how hard they try so being a “hyena” is the only way?
Young? She’s older than everyone in the LA, save for the people we’ve seen in the first gen!
Daw, who do you think you’re lying to, Travant? We’ve seen the father-daughter bonding family time in FE5 !
At least Travant’s willing to give her second chance? If Alty came back afterwards, would he go all Rudy like “only a fool gives third chances?” No, of course not, because Travant’s still a dad who loves his children! Maybe he’d have thrown her in a dungeon - or locked her in her room.
Granted, there’s no reason to slip again now, Meath is a Thracian Castle, she has to take it back!
Finally some obedience!
Hm... Well, Alty is young as in “not ready to be a ruler yet” but she’s older than our peeps who will inherit kingdoms at the end of the game... Are we headed for a disaster in post-war Jugdral? Oh yes.
Hannibal doesn’t like when random civilians are dying, nor does he like people who kill them for nothing. Of course he was going to disapprove.
Mmh...
Leif is backed up with a ton of people who want him dead (maybe Seliph wants to avenge the aunt no one talks about?), so he is a threat now, and he fears that Alty will join his side because blood>family?
En route with a new platoon of dracoknights!
Oh?
A truce with the people who conquered a castle - granted it was a base of operation because Thracia tried to conquer Manster - and who want your king dead? A truce with the son of the man who thought you were nothing but hyenas and continued to apply his stupid policies on food exportations? “i’ve met prince leif, he was a reasonable boy!” You met FE5!Leif General, not FE4!Leif...
A despicable choice, but a choice they had to do nonetheless, as Arion points out in FE5. If they wanted to continue to fight, they’d have ended up like Queen Rahna !
Well, you have a point, even if they were trying to retaliate to your attack on Manster. But invading a country is never a “proportionate way to retaliate”!
Because you killed Quan’n’Ethlyn or because F!Lewyn wants obedient little pawns in every corner of the continent to secure Seliph’s future reign?
Travant really doesn’t take well constructive criticism. What is he, a youtuber?
What kind of test? - But here we notice that Travant is indeed worried about turncloaks, i think he is sure Alty is going to switch sides now. Which she does :’(
He has no faith in the daughter he spent 17 years raising, so he has no faith in you. It’s totally uncalled, i know.
Because Travant is afraid, like Arion said. And because taking children hostage is his hobby!
but he was just rescued a few months ago from the Loptyr goons!
:’(
As this war is won? Well, Hannibal knows that he won’t see Corpul ever again!
ahahaha
Dude, we’re in FE4! Travant wants to believe you, just like i do, but we know it’s not the case!
It’s funny because this also applied to 1st gen Travant, he had a soft spot for Alty! Of course she was able to use the Gae Bolg so she was useful, but raising her to the status of a Princess when she could just’ve been another Faval? Travant is lying to himself in this chapter, it’s kind of adorable but also very sad.
stop it with the courtesies Distler, we’re talking about war!
Ah, i don’t think so. Seliph’s going to storm your castle as easily as Miletos fell to Hilda.
Travant trusts Distler though. Maybe he isn’t such a bad guy, or maybe he is a baddie but his only redeeming quality is to be loyal?
Yep, not a kind or a good guy, but a loyal one. Given how many turncloaks are around i’d say it’s Travant’s best guy.
Asking Distler to do what you couldn’t? Of course Gae Bolg etc but...
Reinforcements from Miletos! Yay!
He is not only a Loptyrian agent, but first and foremost an imperial agent, the one to ensure that the treaty between Arvis and Travant isn’t just some piece of paper but a real thing!
Come now! We’re not treacherous, we merely use the mountains to raise our avoid!
GG Seliph! But you forgot the part where Travant is allied with Arvis, and how he can backstab you just like Siggy/Quan experienced. Conquering his country though...
“Oh, so I can spare them? Maybe that’ll show them that we’re good willed and only want to kill Arvis!”
And here the famous “we’re already here we can’t go back now” or as the french proverb says “le vin est tiré il faut le boire”. Seliph doesn’t want to kill sad people :’( Well, given the opening narration, he is also fighting against peasants so...
“she’s my cousin!”
And instead of trying to explain things calmly to him, like August tried to do with Leif, F!Lewyn is pissed that his brainwashing isn’t working and uses the moral compass/weakling excuse “if you’re too weak then go home and let everyone die is it what you want?”
FFS I really hate that guy
Yes, especially how Seliph is now his majesty and you’re nothing but the former king of a country you couldn’t protect (Oifey doesn’t know about dragons) - asking questions and doubting is a good thing damn it! Of course Seliph is stressed, he is fighting against peasants - those very same peasants taking arms against an invader could have been Dimna, Tristan or Radney in another universe!
No they don’t know because you’re being an arrogant reptile and you’re not telling anyone the reasons why they need to be here. If you’re not telling their leader, i doubt you’re telling to useless people like Lester.
And how do you stop that? Surely it’d have been kind of useful to train the useless luggage you’ve been hauling around in light magic, or to give her a light tome? Or have you even tried to locate the Book of Naga?
No! The brainwash worked :’(
NO! You don’t find purpose in a fight, you have a purpose for fighting! You’re already supposed to have one wheh you’re fighting! How do you expect people to follow you after that? Are you soldiers even aware abuot Loptyr’s resurrection and the real reason why they need to go to Granvalle?
Damn that dragon
NO SIGGY WAS AT HIS BEST WHEN HE STARTED TO DOUBT DON’T FALL BACK TO CHAPTER 1-2!SIGGY SELIPH PLEASE
What sight! GG Finn!
EDA WHO IS EDA I DON’T KNOW WAS SHE A PART OF MY ARMY THREE WEEKS AGO I FORGOT WELP
It’s so shiny, I’d recognise it everywhere! It’s the figging emblem of your flag Leif!
And here we go, the aura thing. I hope it’s developed in a jugdral remake, because gloating Julia being incognito or glowing Mareeta is really really plot breaking.
“i told you to stop with the S drinks!” Finn made the deduction everyone with the brain cells must have reached when they saw Alty with her dad’s lance.
you really think a holy weapon can be lost like that?
Just like you did with Nanna then?
So Leif had shreds of compassion/sympathy for Travant during a line. That’s good.
stop rubbing salt in the wounds Finn! and tbh, if Leif was in the desert, i doubt Travant would have killed him too. He’d be Arion lil’bro who’s afraid to ride a dragon!
You have being kind “letting her live” and being kind “make her a princess” - and you know what, i’m not sure Finn ever spent father-daughter bonding time with Nanna. Someone must have taught her how to ride but the game doesn’t show us a thing, heck Finn doesn’t want Leif to surrender when Nanna’s held hostage... But Finn is a knight, he doesn’t have the luxury to be a father.
somewhere, someone took care of a useless girl for no reason but she’ll be mysteriously revealed to be the only one able to kill Loptyr - it’ll be a coincidence!
maybe she won’t consider Quan’n’Ethlyn her parents? “we’re in FE4! it’ll work!”
She saw you for like 4 months before disappearing, but i’m sure she’ll remember you.
He will!
And Seliph promoted! Now he can be a useful unit!
Thank the pony Seliph!
#FE4 run#Seliph no#i'm disappointed#fig it#Travant killed Quan'n'Ethlyn but raised Alty for 17 years#it won't mean jack shit#and Travant knows it :'(#Hannibal you're in the wrong Jugdral game#fig F!Lewyn#seriously i can't stand the guy#i know he's trying to get rid of Loptyr but it's useless if you create more wars afterwards#i'll carve a purpose in my fight? then what?#i mean siggy's arc was all about discovering too late that his fights didn't serve his purpose but Arvis'#Siggy was a knight so it was sad but unavoidable#but Seliph is supposed to be a king!#A king decides what he and his soldiers are fighting for before the fight starts#he doesn't have to find a meaning to his fight during the battle!#honestly#i'm meh with this chapter
