Carl Maria von Webers bekannte, aber etwas bescheuerte romantische Schaueroper Der Freischütz kommt in Loriots Inszenierung so dermaßen gediegen daher, daß es schon fast wieder lustig ist.

Tonight's Listening...
Tumblr media
Bartok, 'Bluebeard's Castle'
Pierre Boulez, BBC Symphony Orchestra, with Tatiana Troyanos and Siegmund Nimsgern. Recorded 1976.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm listening to this while reading Edgar Allan Poe, don't know if I'm really aiming to get any sleep tonight.
I love this short opera, it's chilling. Bartok was a true master of haunting music.
It's difficult to find vintage vinyl classical gems like this box. I had such a wonderful collection before we were forced to move home a year and a half ago (long story) I had to get my vinyl down to three crates. I thought I'd be ok about it, but now I find myself looking for records and books I no longer have. I'm really not ok about it, but it's done.

If you’re into that kind of thing, the BEST recording of La Serva Padrona is this one.
Collegium Aureum conducted by Franzjosef Maier, Uberto is Siegmund Nimsgern and Serpina is Maddalena Bonifaccio (who also voices Vespone)
