The Cost of Dharma
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thought about how the man who urged Arjuna to raise the sword against his own kin was the same child who stole butter and ate mud, the man who cursed his entire tribe to self inflicted annihilation was the same child who hid the gopis' clothes, the terrifying manifestation of the divine in the fields of Kurukshetra was the same mischievous boy who housed the universe in his mouth.
A playful child who played the flute for his love and cried when she was married elsewhere sometimes has to bear the burden of godhood. When adharma became widespread in the world, it did not matter what made Krishna happy, what mattered was that justice be restored and dharma reign supreme.
But somewhere along the way we lost Gopal.

💜💜💜 Satyabhama 💜💜💜
Satyabhama, the daughter of Satrajit; the most beautiful maiden in the three worlds stood awestruck behind a curtain of vines staring as her brothers led Krishna, the newfound Yadava prince towards the Sun temple in her father's quarters. She had heard the rumours, but never imagined he would be this handsome! As he walked up the long hallway, she ran parallelly carefully concealing herself behind the twisted vines. She felt her heart skipping a beat every time he threw back his head, laughing at a rogue joke, or carelessly adjusted the crown on his head that stubbornly kept slipping down.

Dashavatar and Das Mahavidyas I think would be besties (with barely any explanation why or maybe no explanation)*
Matsya – Lalita Tripura Sundari
Kurma – Tara (Samudra Manthan)
Varaha – Bhuvaneshwari
Vamana – Bagalamukhi
Narshimha – Chhinnamastaa (looks scary but are really nice, just don't piss them off)
Parashuram – Bhairavi (WAR BUDDIES)
Ram – Dhumavati (ahh the unfortunate widows...)
Krishna – Kali (“twin! Where have you been?”)
Buddha – Matangi
Kalki – Kamala
*IMPORTANT: This is not based on the actual association done on Dashavatar and Das Mahavidya. This is just how I thing who would be friends with whom.

colour of gods anon here,
had more points to add to what i said, lord Ram, lord Krishna, lord Vishnu and lord Shiva even ( though it is debatable) are all technically black. i looked into it more after i saw hindulivesmatter mention lord rama to be black and i looked into it cause i had never heard that. and i found that back in the days they'd use a blue dye that was dark enough to be considered black to paint all these gods. eventually due to weathering the paints turned to a lighter shade of blue. while some say blue is the colour of knowledge, peace and calmness and that might be a reason why they're shown to be blue, lord vishnu himself has been mentioned to be "megha varnam" which again means one of the colour as the rain clouds. I'd like to add that this is different from lord Shiva's "neelakanta" thing which does say his neck is blur and that is correct because of the poison of the amrit thing.
again, i didn't mean to be disrespectful or anything and i mention this cause ik tumblr has enough hinduphobic bigots, I'm a proud and curious hindu lol, willing to learn more about my religion
You are write about it all being debatable.
The one that’s mostly agreeable is Sri Ram. He was certainly not fair skinned. Now I read it in Hindi but the best way I can translate it is “Lustrous”; this is how Muni Narada describes Prabhu’s skin colour in Bal Kanda.
I looked it up and it is supposed to mean dark. Goswami Tulsidas concurs on that (Sahaj Sundar Sawaro) though he uses “sawaro”, which leaves ambiguity between Dark skin and dusky skin.
Sri Vishnu’s complexion is pretty debatable. While Ramayan refers to it as Neela Megha Shyam yet again, other Scriptures say that he is blue as the Ocean, Ksheer Sagar in particular.
I personally find myself believing the second iteration for following reasons:
His skin tone being equated to an ocean is a hint at his nature; which is vast and tranquil, unmoved by human but also capable of utter destruction.
He is known as Pitambar dhari (he who adorns himself with the yellow garments) you will see this in depictions of Narayan in Vaikunth, and on Sri Ram and Sri Krishna. The Complementary, or opposite colour to yellow is Blue. This explains his affinity to yellow in a more logical sense and creates a sense of balance.
Neel is, like most other words in Sanskrit, is a homonym. Its other meaning is indeed blue. So “dark blue like rain clouds” is a possibility in this case.
As for Shiv ji, Vishnu bhagwan calls him “Karpur Gauram” (As fair as Camphor) so that’s just that. His throat is blue but his overall complexion is almost white. His Bhairav avatars on the other hand are pitch-black.

💚💚💚 Jambavati 💚💚💚
He was tall and dark. He wore no crown, unlike the other hunters she had seen who had come close to their village. A few peacock feathers were braided into his long curled locks. Going against her better judgment, she drew closer to the man, running her fingers over the silky feathers. As she let her palm slip down to touch his fingers, she felt an ornate ring adorning his index finger. The sign of the moon, she recognized it from her father's trophy collection. The same motif she had seen on the ring that her father had brought home alongside the sparkling gem. A chill went down her spine. Had he come to avenge his friend?

hiii i had a question which has been bothering me a lot. im new to seva of kanha and sri radha and i been seeing a lot of stuff about periods and how they're impure and such. many people say that you shouldn't do close to or touch your home murtis and stop doing physical seva. is this true? i just don't want to make kanha and radharani upset
Don't worry!! You won't upset our Thakur ji and Thakurani!! Ever!!
There are multiple reasons as to why people say we shouldn't do seva or puja while menstruating, here they are as follows
• It is written in ayurveda that we should not bathe the first two days of our period, and if we have not bathed we should not go into a religious area regardless of gender
• Our energies are different while we are on our period, so we should not disturb the calm enviroment of a mandir
• We are excreting body waste in a sense, and even if you poop then you have to bathe before touching god so it only makes sense
Regardless of all he points above, if you are doing seva as a mother to laal ji and ladli ji then you can touch them freely, does a mother think "am I pure?" before feeding her child? No! In that case your children would need you!!
So yes, I may be wrong on some things but I hope this helped you on your religious journey, Hare Krishna!!
(Plus: you can still do naam jap, smaran, listen to bhajans, do kirtan and other things even during that time of the month :D)

youtube
the description reads
A take on Sanjay Leela Bhansali's latest release of 'HEERAMANDI' by SUBHANGIK.... Sanjay Leela Bhansali's latest opus, Heeramandi, is a cinematic feast that intertwines beauty and complexity, drawing us into a world where aesthetics and artistry converge in an intoxicating dance. While body positivity is often associated with the female form, this film poignantly reveals how it equally shapes and shadows the lives of men, particularly those in the creative realm. Artists, the torchbearers of beauty, expression and grace, frequently grapple with societal expectations. Too tall or too short, too heavy or too slight, too dark or too pale — each deviation from the 'ideal' becomes a silent struggle. Add to this the quirks of less hair, smaller eyes, or a crooked smile, and the challenges magnifies. Heeramandi masterfully exposes these subtle tensions, inviting us to re-examine our perceptions of perfection. As we immerse ourselves in the lush narratives and rich tapestries of Bhansali's vision, let us also embrace the diverse spectrum of human form. In this Pride Month, it is fitting to celebrate all body types, honoring the unique beauty that every individual brings to the canvas of life... The love of the artist for their art is profound yet unseen, echoing the inseparable bond between the Atma (soul) and the Paramathma (Supreme Soul), often interpreted as Krishna. Just as the art and the artist are infused, Krishna's wisdom reveals the unity of the soul and the divine. This profound connection forms the essence of existence, guiding us toward our divine origin. In this union, we discover that true beauty and artistry transcends from the physical to the meta physical, resonating with the eternal dance.
This morning when I opened youtube to put on some music to work I came across this beautiful masterpiece. When I started playing it my first thought were the ones out into my head by the society..
"oh my god, how can men dance like this, this atrocious"
but, quickly replaced those thoughts, becuase that's what is poisoning my mind. Since I was young these societal expectations of girls having curvy bodies, fair skins, big eyes and melodious voices were put into my head and I was told men should be strong, muscular or at the very least be the breadwinner of the house, not curvy and expressive like this. Though since long I've changed that mindset it still sometimes haunts the back of my conscious, prodding at me and telling me that men shouldn't be like this and women should do this and that. But I actively try to push it away, because once I did
I saw the beauty and the glow these men emanated. The way expressions and dance flowed through them, strung me into their performance. Even if this performance has no words, it says way more with expressions than it could ever be possible to convey with words.
This performance was done on the song "Sayiaan Hatto Jao" which translates roughly to "Love, move aside"(Love here means someone you have a romantic relationship with) this song is by far one of the best songs in Heeramandi(The Diamond Bazaar). The new Web series. Though I haven't watched the series itself, I know of the songs because of how popular they are, songs like Sakal Ban and Tilasmi Bahein are amazing too, maybe ya'll can check them out. But this song, and of course the famous gajagamini walk which is said to be the peak fo seduction is truly just something else. The way Aditi Rao Hyadri just brings out the best of the song is amazing.
Coming back to this video, this take of the song, it captures the love men had for Shri Krishna. Artfully showing the affection they had for him while never actually showing it was Shri Krishn but portraying it with the peacock feathers and the signature blue colour.
I think it is fitting for Pride Month. Showing how It doesn't matter to a god whether you are a man or woman. Hindu Mythology often has queer encounters. How Vishnu Ji became Mohini, Ardhanareshwar among others. And the fact that this performance was done by an entirely Bengali team makes me so proud and happy. There is so much I can say about this but I think you'll understand it yourself if you catch the video.
