#Short of being invited to testify at the trial and then getting stiffed by the case worker

I don’t know if it’s because I already listen to so much true crime and “let’s not meet” and missing persons stories; but this book, despite being excellently written, is dragging a little. I like it… but it feels more like I’m learning about a real case than reading a fictional story. It’s completely realistic in every way, set in modern times… I guess realistic fiction is not my genre. :P
#I’m still finishing it though because it’s not a long book and I like parts of the writing style#Although the writing style can be repetitive in terms of content#Everyone’s afraid of [x] because it’s like admitting Kim is dead#Every single character has had multiple moments like that#Like okay we get it#It’s tragic and nerve-wracking#Maybe it’s hitting a little too close to home because I also searched for a missing person who turned out to have escaped abuse#Age fourteen. It was the most eventful thing that happened that year…#Short of being invited to testify at the trial and then getting stiffed by the case worker#I notified all my teachers I wouldn’t be in that day and then had to come in#because I was apparently too fucking delicate to handle a little cross-examination 🙄 Please.#As if I don’t already cross-examine myself after every social interaction#Just let your yes mean yes asshole#I could have handled it#Songs for the missing#Stewart O’Nan
