On Christmas Day 1745 the Jacobite army of Charles Edward Stuart reached Glasgow on its retreat to the north.
After James VII and II’s deposition in England was confirmed by the Scottish Convention in Edinburgh in 1689, those who continued to support the exiled Stuart king became known as “Jacobites”. Most Jacobites were Episcopalian or Catholic in sympathy and so there were few in west central Scotland. Some Presbyterians did support the Stuarts, particularly after the Union of 1707 lent a massive boost to Jacobite support, since the policy of the exiled Stuarts was to restore the Scottish Parliament. Initial hostility to the Union was widespread all over Scotland and when the promised economic benefits failed to materialise widespread discontent was manifest. In Glasgow, the Malt Tax riots of 1725, although not themselves linked to Jacobitism, were sufficiently serious to require the deployment of troops. The churches in the city were suspected of Jacobitism, and the Ramshorn Kirk was established to combat it.
By 1745 Presbyterian support for the Stuarts had almost disappeared. During the Rising of that year, the Whig, anti-Jacobite burgesses of Glasgow supplied only £5,000 in cash and £500 in kind in response to the Jacobite demand for £15,000 cess or land tax.
On the other hand the professors at the University of Glasgow combined to pay the wages of a pro-Hanoverian company of fifty soldiers, this goes to show the split between Scots during this period in our history.
From December 26th to 3rd January 1746, upon its return from England, the army of Prince Charles spent a week in Glasgow, but gathered little or no support. However Charles’s review of his army on Glasgow Green showed that few had deserted during the march south. The Prince is reputed to have admired the city, but admitted that he had no friends there and there is a tradition that a pistol was aimed or even fired at him in the Saltmarket. Nonetheless he set up his headquarters in the Shawfield Mansion and gave fine balls while exacting supplies of clothes and shoes, as well as monetary fines, from Glasgow and Paisley to penalise them for their lack of support. Twelve thousand shirts, plus six thousand each of bonnets, waistcoats, shoes and stockings were required of the city. These demands did nothing to increase enthusiasm for the Jacobites. On 17 January Glasgow militia fought alongside government forces at the Battle of Falkirk where they suffered heavy casualties in a Jacobite victory.
Pics are a depiction of the Prince , then of Shawfield Mansion, where he stayed, now gone and a plaque that marks where it once stood on Glassford Street

Road Trip Through the UK Part 2: Scotland
Tumblr media
Scotland is a wild and magical destination. Even more beautiful and mountainous than I imagined- the land in this region is a feast for the eyes and the soul. I was so thrilled to get to explore the country by the roadside. I only wish I’d more time. There is a wealth of things to do and see.
Tumblr media
We drove over the border of Great Britain and headed toward the Scottish capital of Edinburgh. Still early spring, we landed on the Easter holiday, but the town was vibrant. Once parked at our hotel, we eagerly headed on foot toward the Royal Mile- the definitive main drag. People were bustling about the famous Witchery and sights, but we dove off the beaten path down a small passageway between the buildings to dine at The Devil’s Advocate . Great gastropub food but very Scottish, with a good whisky selection. We definitely warmed up and had plenty to walk off, as we headed to the iconic Edinburgh Castle. The castle is a must-do and it’s chock full of royal treachery, intrigue, and history. We really enjoyed seeing where the royals lived as well as the jail in the castle depths that held American prisoners of war. The walls speak volumes via the etchings of the prisoners or in the mysterious bones discovered inside. Don’t miss the Soldier’s Dog Cemetery, which takes up prime real estate with a view of the city. It’s a bit of heart in a place that feels a pretty dark in its history.
Tumblr media
After the castle, we wandered down the Royal Mile to St. Giles Cathedral. We took in their Easter concert while marveling at one the most beautiful cathedral ceilings I’ve come across. Founded in 1124, the church is quite busy and offers tours and music regularly. Following a much needed nap, we had excellent seafood and service at Fishers in the City .
Tumblr media
Driving into the Highlands of Scotland is unforgettable- but be warned, not a ton of gas stations on our route. Be sure to fill your tank when you can. As Macbeth fans, we headed toward Inverness. It’s conveniently by Loch Ness, which I’ve always wanted to see since childhood. No Nessie sightings, but it’s a beautiful region. We drove by Castle Urquhart and took some photos without going in- I think as castles go, it’s a little more limited. Along our route, we did stop by Eilean Donan Castle dating back to the 13th century. It’s a much more picturesque fully restored castle stop with tours. It’s on an island where three lochs (or lakes) meet, so it’s a prime location.
Tumblr media
We traveled west to the great Isle of Skye. It feels like the edge of the world. A rugged landscape surrounded by wide waterways- this region feels like it’s the land of giants. We stayed at Sconser Lodge, a former clan hunting lodge built in 1871 that sits a few yards from the water. The accommodations are lovely, and it’s run by a kind family. The pub is quite cozy, the whisky is on point, and if you miss the fresh scallops (fished right outside)- I’ll be sad.
Tumblr media
The quaint village of Portee is nearby and we drove through on our way to see the Old Man of Storr. The view from the hike is sublime as you go up the rocky hillside of the Storr. The trail isn’t particularly easy, so bring your water and good shoes- but it’s worth it. The land feels unchanged from the past and the view is enchanting and primordial. As you drive around, keep an eye out for the Highland cows that are especially bred to endure the cold with their long hair.
Tumblr media
The next morning, we hiked The Fairy Pools on the edge of the Black Cuillins. The cold pools are a vibrant blue-green and look like portals to Narnia. There is talk of them being swimmable in warmer months. The trail meanders through a series of waterfalls and its rocky landscape is quite dramatic. They shot the Michael Fassbender Macbeth nearby.
Tumblr media
As you head back down south, keep your eyes peeled for the Hogwarts Express or the Glenfinnan Viaduct portion of the railway. It’s located just outside Fort William and there are some trails in the area to snap a good photo. Nearby, we stopped for lunch in Glencoe and got a glimpse of the great, snow-capped Ben Nevis. It’s the highest peak in the UK and attracts hikers and sightseers.
Tumblr media
If you have the time, Glasgow is a worthy stop. We missed it on our trip sadly, but I do hear wonderful things- especially about the people of Glasgow. Glaswegians say the town is a people’s city with amazing music, shopping, and architecture.
Scotland is enchanting and I fell utterly in love. If you venture there, don’t miss the Highlands where there seems to be more mountains than people. Driving through the rugged landscape allowed us a great deal of freedom and, while it’s tricky to drive on the other side of the road, it was worth it to reach these far-flung places. You’ll feel a long, long way from home, but that’s the idea- right?

hey baby, i say. i put down my hot chocolate and make a quiet arrangement of flowers in a vase on the little nightstand beside her bed. lilies and chrysanthemums and poppies and blood red roses. i pull the chair closer to her bed and comb through her hair.
you’re going to get that ankle surgery done, i say. sorry. i know you didn’t want to but they asked and your mom said yes. and i didn’t argue with her because she was super sad, and i figured you’d want it to be able to go in a nice pair of shoes for your funeral, right? unless you asked for something other than open casket, then it’s all different. it doesn’t really matter what your ankle looks like if you wanna be cremated, my throat feels tight.
it’s a little awkward but i keep talking anyway because it makes me feel better. nobody’s told me what you put in your will yet since they think you might come back.
i’m thinking of naming the baby eden, after you, i say. and i know i should’ve brought the twins so they could say hi, but they wouldn’t understand. they keep crying for you and i don’t want them to see you and think- and- and get confused. but i’m going to let them see you, i promise. just not right now, my voice cracks as i get abruptly emotional for no reason. it’s hard, i say.
i lay my head beside hers. i miss you, i say. but you don’t have to come back. you don’t have to. i cry a little bit. i hope wherever you are is- i hope it’s nice, i say. and that you.. you.... i trail off.
i swallow. well fun fact, i say, moving on. your organs are okay. your kidneys needed a lot of monitoring. you drink a lot, my love, so they were in a little bit of trouble, but they’re fine, i brush her hair gently. you were bleeding kind of slowly. a lot. but slow. so they stopped it, and they are working on restoring your blood volume and your fluids.
and, um, i swallow again. you should maybe be okay soonish. but you don’t wanna come back. they don’t understand yet. the nurses and everything. so they still have us waiting. i take a breath. i don’t really know how to live without you, i admit. but.
i want you to be happy, i whisper. i hope you’re happy. i close my eyes. i really do. i love you, eden. i hold my breath, hoping this will be like a movie and she’ll say something suddenly and it will all be okay and her mental illnesses will be gone somehow too and she’ll get out of bed and her ankle won’t be broken and she’ll jump around and hug and kiss me and we’ll go home and live happily ever after. this isn’t a movie though and she doesn’t move or say anything.
i play some songs out loud i know she likes from my phone. in the middle of no good deed from wicked she makes a noise. it comes from somewhere in the back of her throat. it startles me. eden? i say. nothing. i- i’m going to be right back, i say. okay? i go get the nurse. she made a noise? the nurse asks. that’s a good sign. let me go get a doctor.
what kind of sound was it? the doctor asks me. it- she- it wasn’t a word, i say. it was just. it was just... it was just a noise, i say. j-just a sound. like a moan? he asks. i- i guess, i stammer. she just. it wasn’t. she didn’t even move her mouth she just made a sound.
okay, i’m going to assess her again, he says. would you like to watch? i nod. i watch as he goes through a whole series of tests on her, seeing if she does anything in response to his voice, or in response to physical stimuli.
okay, says the doctor. right now eden is at a 4 out of 15 on the glasgow coma scale. well, i say, unable to stop myself from doing the mental math that tells me that’s only around 26 to 27 percent. that’s better than 0, right? i say. the lowest someone can score is a 3, he says very politely. oh, i say.
however, she was at a 3 before, he smiles at me. she’s improving. that’s a good sign.
oh, good, i say.

Notre Dame fire was a warning bell. But will Europe listen?
Its a thin line where the patina of age on Europes countless monuments gives way to the onset of neglect. Like with so many loved ones, all is assumed to be fine, until suddenly its not.
In the wake of the fire last week that gutted Notre Dame, questions are being raised about the state of thousands of other cathedrals, palaces and village spires that have turned France — as well as Italy, Britain and Spain — into open air museums of Western civilization.
If even an iconic building like Notre Dame could not be protected from devastation, if such a potent symbol of France had to scramble for maintenance funds, that lays bare a culture of apathy that can undermine a shared history as well as the multibillion-dollar tourism industry upon which much of Europe depends.
We are so used to our outstanding cultural heritage in Europe that we tend to forget that it needs constant care and attention, Tibor Navracsics, the European Unions top culture official, told The Associated Press.
Some say the wake-up call, not just for Europe but the whole world, rang in Paris.
Sneska Quaedvlieg-Mihailovicis, head of the Europa Nostra heritage foundation, said it was as if Notre Dame decided to set itself on fire to ring the alarm bell. As if she wanted to sacrifice herself for the cause.
Devastating fires have robbed mankind of its knowledge, art and treasures since the famed library of Alexandria in northern Egypt burned down in ancient times. Prior to Notre Dame, the last global warning came when Brazils Museu Nacional in Rio de Janeiro, one of the most important cultural institutions in South America, burned down in September.
Unfortunately, the fire in Notre Dame is just one of many examples, said Navracsics.
Experts look at the near-endless list of fires at historical sites in Europe and wonder why officials so often dont learn before its too late. Data on such fires is limited, because monuments are so varied. Some were accidents, others arson.
There are no exact statistics, said Didier Rykner of Frances La Tribune de lArt, but added that France sees several fires every year in historic buildings, which is already way too much.
A 2015 study by the German engineering giant Siemens showed that Scotland had about 10 damaging fires a year, while England lost at least a dozen listed buildings a year. Germany has seen 70 such buildings destroyed since 2000.
Every year, theres lightning or something else that destroys a tower or a roof, Juan Antonio Herráez, who is in charge of preventive conservation at Spains Cultural Heritage institute, told the AP.
In 1985, the tower of Luxembourgs main cathedral caught fire and burned down. In 2004, a fire in the Duchess Anna Amalia library in Weimar, Germany, caused an estimated 80 million euros in damage. In Italy, the historic La Fenice opera house in Venice was destroyed by fire in 1996, and a year later, that happened at Turins Sindone Chapel of the Holy Shroud.
And all too often, fires happen during restoration work.
The Glasgow School of Arts Mackintosh Building was gutted by fire last year for the second time in four years as it neared the end of a multimillion-pound (dollar) restoration project.
In Spain, the Gran Teatre del Liceu — Barcelonas opera house — was destroyed almost entirely in 1994 by a fire caused by spark that fell on a curtain during routine repair work.
Experts say whats lacking is the constant attention and regular maintenance that could help avoid the need for major restoration work, but that costs money. The problem has been exacerbated by the austerity budgets many European nations adopted after the 2008 financial crisis and during Europes subsequent debt crisis.
After austerity cuts, Rykner said, you need some drastic restorations that either you dont do, or you do them badly or cheaply. And it can lead to fires.
Herráez wants officials to shift their focus to prevention instead of only reacting to building disasters.
Reparation or restoration should be seen as the failure in conservation, he said. We would be spending money in maintenance but we will be minimizing potential future damages.
Navracsics echoed that thought.
We should never forget that theres also a cost to non-action, a lack of maintenance or a lack of prevention, he said.
The problem is that prevention is practically invisible but grand restorations can be a boon for the politicians cutting the ribbons.
The fire at Notre Dame had barely been doused when two of Frances richest men, rival billionaires, stepped up with flashy, competing donations of hundreds of millions of euros to rebuild the Paris cathedral. Notre Dame donations now stand at over 1 billion euros (1.12 billion) — or about three years of Frances national restoration budget.
This massive outpouring of donations grates on those who have begged for years for a few thousand euros to restore a local but valuable monument.
You have seen that, now, the money is not the problem, said Quaedvlieg-Mihailovicis. There is a lesson. Could we not invest smaller amounts, and not just for the biggest and the most iconic monuments?
The EU itself has allotted 4.7 billion euros (5.28 billion) for restorations in the 2014-2020 financial budget on top of what individual nations do.
As state funding dries up, governments are increasingly looking for private donors to renovate major monuments. In Italy in recent years, Tods luxury shoes sponsored the Colosseum face-lift, while the Fendi fashion house helped the Trevi Fountain in Rome and Diesel backed improvements for the Rialto bridge in Venice.
We do need to invest more, but this is a shared responsibility for governments, businesses and citizens across Europe, said Navracsics.
Nations will reap the benefits of such spending for years to come. Tourism in Britain and France alone amounts to about 7 of their Gross Domestic Product, good for around 150 billion euros and 170 billion euros (around 170 billion and 190 billion) a year.
Some say world-renowned monuments like Notre Dame are the driving force behind such tourism and deserve more respect.
Cultural heritage is a gold mine. You cannot exploit it and then just leave the mine and go to another one. It is something you really have to cherish, said Quaedvlieg-Mihailovicis.
Aritz Parra in Madrid, Danica Kirka and Jill Lawless in London, Colleen Barry in Milan, Sylvie Corbet and Sam Petrequin in Paris all contributed

In this present reality where dispensable style has turned into the standard, there’s a developing development that expects to resuscitate the craft of shoe restoration. Birmingham, Leeds Bradford, and Glasgow, three urban communities saturated with history and culture, are at the very front of this restoration.

On Christmas Day 1745 the Jacobite army of Charles Edward Stuart reached Glasgow on its retreat to the north.
After James VII and II's deposition in England was confirmed by the Scottish Convention in Edinburgh in 1689, those who continued to support the exiled Stuart king became known as "Jacobites".
However Charles's review of his army on Glasgow Green showed that few had deserted during the march south.
Pics are of Shawfield Mansion, now gone and a plaque that marks where it once stood on Glassford Street

Spoiler alert! Haken are awesome. They certainly were tonight (and every other time I’ve seen them live). Of course, I can’t make such an assertive and argumentative statement without the ability to back it up factually, so here goes: Haken are awesome. Fact!
Hot from their South American dates culminating in their Cruise To The Edge stint in the Gulf of Mexico, Haken (say it like Kevin Bacon) visit the cooler climes of Glasgow tonight for their show at St. Luke’s – a relatively attractive graded structure with its backdrop of stained glass windows and original pipe organ (not used tonight). There’s something profound about a building once used for religious activities now used for a different kind of religion – prog!
Tonight’s congregation comprise of elders of prog and worshippers of metal alike all apparently eager to witness Haken’s sermon of soaring melodies and searing riffage. It’s also pleasing to see a good compliment of younger fans there, ensuring the gospel according to Haken is being spread from generation to generation. This is unsurprising however, since their music spans the gamut of rock/metal, from Periphery-style djent chugging to gentler passages more synonymous with the old guard of progressive rock.
Their 2016 album ‘Affinity’ shifted gears quite considerably to a more aggressive, edgy style. These elements have always been present in their earlier work, but not to such a degree. Their latest offering, ‘Vector’, again moves in this direction, although still maintaining the foundations of their open-minded style, infused with complex arrangements and quirky moments. These are features that may cause some apprehension in the predominantly metal side of the fan base, but conversely, there are those not entirely at ease with Haken’s definite swing to a chunkier sound.
Tonight however, the audience is gathered together for an evening of great music provided by Haken and their support acts, Vola and Bent Knee. I’d never actually heard either support band before, although I was aware of the online chatter regarding Bent Knee, so I was curious to hear what they were offering.
They entered the stage to a cacophony of keyboard noise and a surprisingly reserved murmur from the audience. I’m not sure many knew what to expect from them. Bent Knee first appears as an odd assemblage of characters which probably matches their style of music, which I can only describe as avant-garde. A breath of fresh prog air perhaps as they launch headfirst into their startlingly raucous set. The music is comprised of twists and turns, time signature changes and bizarre vocals, which I couldn’t actually make out most of the time due to them being awash with effects and processing.
The stage at St. Luke’s is not large by any means, and accommodating a group of six members and their equipment in front of Haken’s gear was an exercise in shoe-horning. Poor rhythm guitarist and sound designer Vince Welch must have drawn the short straw, and was stuck somewhat awkwardly at the back of the stage. The lack of space didn’t seem to bother the band however, as was evident by the amount of fun they were having, with Levin leaping about in his designated spot and the smiles on everyone’s faces, which is always great to see. It’s fair to say they were enjoying themselves and the Scottish reaction.
There were elements of traditional prog definitely, but not as we know it, Jim. This transcended prog, entering a seemingly new dimension of experimentation and slightly unsettling guitar chord structures, shifts in tempos and tone but balanced by lush melodies and washes of keyboards. The musicianship is first class however (both vocalist Courtney Swain and guitarist Ben Levin attended Berklee College of Music) and despite sections of ostensibly random note selections and discordance, it was also amazingly tight and together. By the end of their set, the audience were won over, as the applause and cheers clearly indicated.
The downside to touring as support is that once your part of the show is finished your job isn’t done yet. The band dons their roadie hat and starts the task of dismantling their equipment to clear the stage for the next band in full view of the crowd.
And the next band on this bill is the Danish/Swedish Vola. Playing as a three-piece tonight (and most of the current tour apparently) the lack of keyboardist Martin Werner didn’t seem to distract from the mass and volume of their music. (Backing tracks have their uses!) Kicking off with ‘Starburn’, with its beautifully melodic intro before smashing into a metallic riff underpinned by syncopated rhythm patterns, as is prevalent in many if the harder-edged prog bands these days. Singer/guitarist Asker Mygind has a great voice that can more than handle the smattering of screams throughout the set.
Playing songs from their two albums, 2017’s ‘Inmazes’ and last year’s ‘Applause Of A Distant Crowd’, they next launch into ‘Smartfriend’, continuing with the rhythmic syncopation right through their 40 minute slot. Describing their music would again be a tricky endeavour; combining progressive rock and 70’s infused rock intertwined with more modern industrial themes and contemporary metal grunt. I gave up trying to follow the time signatures and instead just wallowed in the mostly excellent tunes.
Vola had a good number of fans in the audience and did not disappoint them. Ending with the stonking ‘Stray The Skies’ they confirmed their status as one of the more exciting new prog bands around.
After a short break while the road crew set the stage up for tonight’s headliners, the lights dim to a slightly manic and digital rendition of the William Tell Overture. This mania fits with the theme of Haken’s latest offering, ‘Vector’, a dive into the world of psychosis and human experimentation.
The short instrumental album opener, ‘Clear’, fills our ears and gets the crowd cheering, ready for what is to follow. The organ pipes at the back of the stage absolutely compliment the organ playing in this tune almost as if it was part of the stage show. As the band members appear on stage to rapturous applause, they head straight into the next track ‘The Good Doctor’. The 80’s synth drum sounds so prevalent on ‘Affinity’ are also heard in this song. Somewhat amusingly, it works. And why not?
It’s during ‘Puzzle Box’ that you really get a sense of how incredible these musicians are. Drummer, Ray Hearne and bassist Connor Green lock together effortlessly in the stuttering rhythmic passages, while guitarists Charles Griffiths and Richard Henshall trade riffs and solos on their 7 and 8 string axes. As with most of the songs from ‘Vector’, there is almost a sense of stifling complexity, and one can’t help feeling it’s just a matter of time before somebody screws up and brings the whole thing to a grinding halt. But it doesn’t. Instead, we are treated to an exercise in virtual perfection.
They take a trip back to their 2014 album ‘The Mountain’ for the lengthy ‘Falling Back To Earth’, before launching into a doozy of an instrumental, ‘Nil By Mouth’. This wouldn’t seem out of place on a Periphery album with its jarring chunky groove and intricate rhythms.
Singer, Ross Jennings returns to the stage for ‘1985’ from ‘Affinity’, complete with 80’s specs that light up. He throws a couple of extra pairs into the audience so the lucky recipients can share in the fun. This throwback of 40 years is done so well, complete with the aforementioned synth drums and guitar solo sounding like it’s from a Mike Post TV show theme tune.
The twelve and a half minute, Dream Theater flavoured ‘Veil’ follows, displaying again a faultless performance. We are treated to an unleashed Diego Tejeida, who comes forward sporting a very black metal looking keytar, complete with little skulls all over it. Diego is having a whale of a time during the show, engaging with the crowd almost as much as Jennings.
Surprisingly, to me anyway, Haken play through Radiohead’s ‘Paranoid Android’, and do an excellent job of making it sound like one of their own tracks. After performing ‘The Architect’, they leave the stage for the obligatory tension building gap before the encore. They return minutes later for the grand finale of ‘Crystallised’ from the ‘Restoration’ EP before calling it a night.
This was a skilful and faultless presentation of progressive music of the highest technical order. The fact Haken made it look so easy and so much fun is why they are cementing themselves as one of the most prominent prog metal bands in the genre. Their move toward a heavier sound has now initiated mosh pits and crowd-surfing, neither of which I expected at a Haken show. Sadly, my glasses came a cropper during an overhead surfer assault. I eventually found them so twisted you needed a head shaped like a corkscrew to wear them! As twisted as Haken’s music is, and despite the mathematically precise complexity of the instrumentation, they still manage to write great (and listenable) songs. The audience left St. Luke’s fully satisfied tonight, and probably already thinking about the next Haken UK tour.

Houston Driveway Gate - To Swing Or to Be Able To Swing
OIf any window or door capabilities broken lock, make sure you remedy it immediately. Do not be lazy and leave the repair work for a later date. It should be top most on your to-do opt-in list. Get call forwarding. Hire staff in order to need so that you can. But make confident that Electric gates glasgow someone is picking inside phone a person calls company is. (Notice I only say "someone". Because they came from call have come to believe that they could have to speak with a fake recorded robotic.) Get a script and turn it into exciting and when the person answering cell phone does not need a part in the play then you can need to provide open rehearsal and get someone else right these days. Sites which sell the actual normally ensure the goods for around fifteen years or is simply it is well this extra valuation on having it put in professionally. Indeed, electric driveway gates may even add some value on the house price too are going to was ever put up for sale again. Seem like can find that everything looks quite new they are far more often than not to spend asking price if greatest looks immaterial has with regard to done before they transfer. A timber or a wooden garage door looks great on modern too as traditional properties. Cedar is probably the most kind of timber ideal for making doors for your garage. A cedar is lighter and will not rot. Terrific be painted or stained to various sorts of accomplishes. If you are well on a shoe string budget and have got a level ground, the swing doors work most effectively option select from. They are affordable and work fairly quickly. However, if you are not lucky enough to get a good level ground, you must be looking for that slide gates that have an viewpoint. But, if you don't have sufficient space to allow the gate to open, the Electrify existing gates that lift themselves up are the best choice. However, they work a bit slowly; yet they are most suitable when talking of saving unit. Solar powered gates make use of the solar panel and it stores vehicles energy buy the nature during the day. This solar energy is stores within the batteries to charge the sealed batteries within the control system. Once the batteries are powered, a regular Gates manufacturing glasgow can open and close the gate as many as 110 fertility cycles. If the gate happens to be considered an double door system the idea will operate the gate 55 durations. If the power is not used, then the other two bonuses power are going to stored and also the battery must be used later found on. After opening the gate, the battery can restore its power within a few minutes. This raises the next element to find at a few are building fences or gates. Is also important to implement the total design of one's home selecting a fence design. Begins with colour. The hue of the fence has regarding something that compliments the colour of the home. It will usually have identical theme as the home. In case the house possess a Victorian theme, it will probably be good in case the fence reflected that web theme. Rustic fences also get treatment well this is intended for country homes. Metal linear fences work well with modern homes. This can the need for having one theme in your home. That your home stand out more.

The Daily Thistle
The Daily Thistle – News From Scotland
Wednesday 1st March 2017
"Madainn Mhath” …Fellow Scot, I hope the day brings joy to you…. Beautiful morning with a heaven filled with Stars and other planetary bodies, all seemingly competing to get my attention…. Today Bella sniffed her way down the small side streets that make up Estepona, past the shoe repair shop, and onward past the small bakery.. and the bread being baked smelt so good!.. then past the shop that sells everything and only closes for two hours in 24.. they were cooking Sweet Potatoes and delicious doesn’t cover how good they smelt. Down past where the local council night crew were watering the multitude of Geraniums hanging on the walls  of the narrow alleys.. then up past the church, with the old women waiting for the doors to be unlocked and the bells to ring calling them to prey.. and then she turned for home she imagining the smell of her dog food and me the smell of my fresh brewed Colombian coffee….
BUGS AND INSECTS FEARED EXTINCT DISCOVERED NEAR LOCH NESS The knotty shining claw pseudoscorpion has been found north of the River Tay for the first time, at Dundreggan estate near Loch Ness. A host of rare and previously unseen bugs and insects have been discovered at a conservation estate in the Highlands – including some creatures that were feared to be extinct. Unusual finds in the past 12 months include a midge never before found in the UK and a fierce-looking pseudoscorpion, thought to live only south of the River Tay. The latest discoveries bring the total UK biodiversity “firsts” found at Dundreggan, on the shores of Loch Ness, to 11. Researchers at the charity Trees for Life, which runs the 10,000-acre estate, said the Glen Moriston site is proving to be a “lost world” for wildlife. Other key findings during 2016 surveys were two rare gnats whose larvae feed on fungi. One of these has only been recorded at four other UK sites, while the other is known at only a handful of places in Scotland and had not been seen since 1990. Trees for Life took over the Highland estate in 2008 with the aim of restoring part of Scotland’s native woodland. “Dundreggan is a special part of the Caledonian Forest that keeps on revealing beautiful, interesting and rare species,” said charity founder Alan Watson Featherstone. “The surprisingly rich wealth of life in this corner of the Highlands highlights the importance of concerted conservation action to protect and restore Scotland’s wild places.” Two rare parasitic wasps and a micro-moth were also among the most recent finds, while three types of sawfly, an aphid, two aphid parasitoids, three fungus gnats and a mite discovered on the estate in recent years have never before been recorded in the UK. Surveys at Dundreggan have also revealed the second-ever British record of a waxfly, a golden horsefly seen only once in Scotland since 1923, and a juniper shieldbug.
GRANDAD WITH CANCER TO DO 66-MILE LOCH NESS CHARITY CYCLE…A 62-year-old grandfather suffering from an incurable cancer will take part in the Etape Loch Ness challenge to raise money for Maggie’s Centre. Colin Murray, from Buckie in Moray, is undertaking the marathon cycle to pay tribute to those who have supported him his his battle against the disease. Colin is determined to complete the course despite still being treated for mantle cell lymphoma - cancer which attacks the body’s white cells, and means that he will only ever be in remission, never cured. He still has days where cancer leaves him feeling tired and washed out. But he refuses to be beaten and says his solution is to have a yawn, sit down for half an hour and then get right back up again. Staff and volunteers at Maggie’s Centre – a specialist cancer facility - in Aberdeen supported him and his family and he wanted to do something to repay that kindness. Colin said: “I would always go into Maggie’s after my treatment and speak to them and I found that it helped me so much. “Just having someone there to listen made such a huge difference to me, and I cannot thank them enough for all they have done.” He was diagnosed with mantle cell lymphoma in 2008 and endured seven months of chemotherapy before being told by doctors he was in remission. However, the cancer showed signs of returning six years later and Colin agreed to take part in a trial of a new drug - ibrutinib. The drug, which is still undergoing clinical trials, kills lymphoma cells and prevents them from dividing. This stops the spread of lymphoma cells through the body. Colin added: “Although I will never be cured, everything is going in the right direction with this drug.
CONCERNS OVER 40-STRONG WILD BOAR COLONY NEAR SCOTTISH TOWN…A colony of up to 40 wild boards has been established in a woodland in Perthshire. The creatures, which can run up to 30mph and weigh more than 20 stone, are listed in the Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976. Government agency Scottish Natural heritage is to hold a public meeting over concerns they could be a danger to the public. The colony is believed to be near the Perthshire town of Alyth. Gavin Clark, an operations manager at SNH, told a national newspaper: “If you do see a wild boar, they’re likely to run away from you. If they don’t, walk away slowly - don’t feed them and keep your dog on a lead. “There have been some sightings on Alyth Hill and there may be between 20 and 40 animals, but information is limited. We want to learn more about their numbers and movements.” It is believed the wild boar escaped or were set loose from a private collection and have since bred to be herd size. A local pig farmer David Brough told The Times newspaper: “They are a danger to the public. I have seen a dozen big ones. I would reckon they were more than 20 stones and by, god, they can run.
DOUBLE DECKER TRAINS ‘MAY EASE EDINBURGH-GLASGOW OVERCROWDING’…. Using double decker trains to transport passengers between Edinburgh and Glasgow could help solve the country’s rail crisis, according to Scotland’s former transport minister. Alex Neil says introducing double decker services on busy routes could help bring an end to overcrowding on trains and open up the possibility of cut price fares. But Union leaders have branded the idea “pie in the sky”. Speaking to the Sunday Herald, the ex-SNP cabinet minister claimed double decker trains would increase passenger numbers and lead to a growth in revenue. “The idea that you can only get innovation with the private sector is rubbish,” he said. “It’s about having a virtuous cycle rather than a vicious cycle.” Double decker trains are popular in countries such as France, Germany and Switzerland. Neil said adopting that system in Scotland, particularly along the main routes, would transform the way rail services are delivered. Neil said: “Recently, I was in Warsaw going to Krakow and was on a double decker train. You could have Glasgow to Edinburgh double deckers. It means you can double the capacity on each train. “If you invest the (network’s) profits in running a double decker service, it would end overcrowding, would be more convenient and would mean more money could be invested.” But, Kevin Lindsay, Scottish secretary of train drivers’ union Aslef, said: “It’s a pie in the sky idea as the infrastructure can’t take it and you would need to lower the tracks. “It’s a great idea in theory and I’m not against it in principle, but it’s virtually impossible.
APP OFFERS VIRTUAL TOUR OF SCOTTISH TOURIST HOTSPOTS…. A virtual reality experience of 26 Scottish tourist spots has been created for use with a smart phone and a 3D viewer. The free ScotlandVR app features 360 degree imagery and footage. They include Abbotsford House near Melrose, Alloway's Robert Burns Birthplace Museum and Dunnottar Castle near Stonehaven. The Cairngorms National Park, Falkirk Wheel and Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh are also featured. The footage and animations play on a smartphone placed inside a cardboard 3D viewer. The app emerged from a competition held as part of the 2016 Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design. Tourism body VisitScotland challenged students to create an interactive digital product to inspire people to visit Scotland. The winner was a team from Edinburgh Napier University led by Prof David Benyon and Dr Oli Mival. The team developed the concept for an app which would allow users to explore a virtual Scotland.

Shoe Cleaning Services Leeds Bradford
A Leeds shoe cleaning service may surprise someone when they use one for the first time. For instance, someone with scuffed and stained leather boots could find it challenging to clean them at home. A neighborhood shoe cleaning service may do wonders, shining the leather, repairing little tears, and eliminating scuffs. That service is worth returning to since, after a few days, those boots might appear brand new.

Shoe Cleaning Services Liverpool
Besides its thriving cultural and musical scene, Liverpool offers first-rate shoe-washing services. One excellent example would be someone who brought in a pair of white trainers that had become soiled at a performance. After being wholly cleaned using environmentally friendly materials, the shoe cleaning service in Liverpool returned the shoes nearly as white as they had been. Furthermore, the personnel offered helpful tips on prolonging the trainers' cleanliness.

Shoe Cleaning Services in Glasgow
Vintage footwear is the specialty of several shoe cleaning services in Glasgow. Old leather shoes could make someone wary to trust them to anybody, but Glasgow's specialists are skilled at what they do. These services can even change worn-out soles and clean and restore the leather, like receiving a brand-new pair of shoes, but with the nostalgic worth of the original.
