“Did you know kaftans were originally worn by men?” asks Narresh Kukreja, of the design label Shivan & Narresh. No, I did not. But I’m too busy attempting to replicate the sketch of a kaftan that Shivan Bhatia has just drawn for us on a croqui(that’s French for a type of skeletal design). I’m on a Zoom call along with several fashion and design enthusiasts attending the duo’s At Home…

Though the tag of a ‘Superstar’ is pretty rare for an actress in Indian cinema, Mangalore-born Anushka Shetty has achieved it after a decade of commitment, hard work and dedication in the Telugu film industry. Considered as one among the few actors who can carry the entire film on their shoulders, Anushka’s trademark quality is to extract massive footfalls into the theatre without depending on a bankable male lead.
After positioning herself as a successful commercial heroine, the 38-year-old altered her direction and balanced her repertoire by opting for content-driven and female-centric flicks like Vedam, Nanna, Bhaagamathie and Size Zero. After portraying the iconic role of Devasena in the Baahubali franchise, Sweety became a nationwide phenomenon and turned into a pan-Indian actress. At present, she is gearing up for the release of Nishabdham.

However, amid these commercial potboilers, she silenced her critics by effectively portraying author-backed roles in films like Eega, Yeto Vellipoyindhi Manasu and Manam. After walking down the aisle with Naga Chaitanya, the 32-year-old actress altered her strategy by showing affinity towards content-driven subjects. Following impressive performances in films like Rangasthalam, Mahanati and U Turn, Sam acquired back-to-back success with Super Deluxe, Majili and Oh! Baby. After wrapping up the second season of ‘The Family Man’ and enjoying the critical acclaim for ‘Jaanu’, Samantha Akkineni has recently signed Vignesh Shivan’s Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kadhal starring Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara.

What to look forward to Amazon India Fashion Week autumn/winter 2018
The fall/winter 2018 edition of Amazon India Fashion Week will take place this week at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. In a surprising turn of events, the showcase will not be hosting a finale show as is tradition. Even then, we are excited to see some our favourite labels in the capital. These are the names to watch out for on the schedule.
1/7
Abraham & Thakore
Veteran kings of cool—David Abraham and Rakesh Thakore’s trans-seasonal collection #sadaksmart is quite literally inspired by the streets of New Delhi. The mix of several cultures and subcultures spotted in the crowds will be translated on to the runway. Shades of olive green, reds and neutrals will be seen in varying degrees of opacity.
Gauri & Nainika
Sisters and designers Gauri and Nainika Karan’s label has always been about embracing feminity. Given the current conversation about feminism and strong women, this season Gauri & Nainika are supporting just that in their own unique way. We are sure to see large florals, pleated tulle and full skirts on the runway.
Ilk
Delhi-based label Ilk is a fan of slow living. In favour of an easier, more mindful lifestyle change, the brand has chosen to focus on human connect. Handwoven khadi, cord embroidery, polka dots and geometric patterns take centre stage.
Nikasha
Designer Nikasha Tawadey was thinking about gardens and flowers in the monsoon for her collection this season. Tawadey uses the blossoming garden as metaphor to echo the shift in power for women. Best known for her modern Indian ethnic separates, the designer will be highlighting styles like dhoti saris and cocktail jackets with the collection.
Shivan & Narresh
Resort wear label Shivan & Narresh is an advocate of the high-flying, party hopping lifestyle. Travel takes prominence for a design label whose very identity is modeled around it. Inspired by Edo Art on a trip to the Seychelles, designers Shivan Bhatia and Narresh Kukreja have developed a collection that captures the essence of the holiday.
Shyamal & Bhumika
Designer label Shyamal & Bhumika’s forte lies in their mix of modern meets traditional aesthetic. Inspired by the Parisian skies, this season, their collection will feature floral motifs, statement dresses in soft velvets, sequins and beadwork.
Vineet Bahl
Vineet Bahl’s recent holiday to the Balkan Peninsula was the starting point of his autumn/winter 2018 collection. Drawing heavily from the art, architecture, costumes and societal mannerisms the collection will signify the designer’s interpretation of what he learnt from his travels. Blood orange, Cerulean blue, sunflower yellow, antique gold and silver and crimson reds dominate the colour palette.

What Kareena Kapoor Khan and Deepika Padukone wore on 29/01/2018
No one switches between Indian ethnic wear and casual OOTDs as seamlessly as Deepika Padukone. After treating herself to a Rajasthani thaali this weekend in a green Sabaysachi sharara set, the star set out yesterday in two contrasting looks. During the day, Deepika Padukone flew out of Mumbai with sister Anisha Padukone channeling a normcore vibe (the siblings twinned in matching Levi’s tees, jeans, black jackets and white Nike sneakers). Come evening, we spotted Deepika Padukone cheering for her father in New Delhi as he accepted a Lifetime Achievement Award, wearing yet another Sabyasachi creation: a pink and gold brocade sari worn with statement earrings.
Kareena Kapoor Khan amps up her workout look
In stark contrast, Kareena Kapoor Khan spent her day yesterday hitting the gym in yet another must-see workout look. The actor was spotted in a semi-sheer polka dotted white tee worn over black leggings. What made her gym look stand out? The reflective sunglasses she paired with her outfit of the day.

Shilpa Shetty Kundra and Parineeti Chopra favour wedding-ready Indian ethnic wear
Padukone wasn’t the only star who had wedding hoppers talking with her Indian ethnic look last evening. If you’re particularly partial to saris, you need to check out the versions Shilpa Shetty Kundra and Tamannaah Bhatia wore yesterday. While Shetty Kundra’s leafy Shivan & Narresh drape makes the ideal pick for a pool-side wedding cocktail (don’t miss the embellished gold leaves dotting the fabric), Bhatia’s blush pink Varun Bahl wouldn’t look out of place at mehandi celebration. And if you have most fun in comfortable anarkalis, Parineeti Chopra’s look from yesterday was unmissable. The star attended a friend’s wedding in Mumbai in a midnight blue AM:PM creation featuring ivory embroidery. Check it out in our slideshow now.
