I was alerted to Trigun Fanfiction Appreciation Week! I have recs! It's Cinco de Mayo and I am full of tacos. Let's roll! Roleswap The Purple Hyacinth bouquet of stories by @somereaderinblue Summary: A universe in which Vash was born as the first Independent Plant and it is Tesla and Nai who are the twin-siblings. Other characters switch roles as well - Luida and Rem, Livio and Wolfwood, each retaining their unique selves. The symbolism of the purple hyacinth and little details like Tesla's love of lemon-cake really make this. Tesla is a rougher kind of heroic desperado, being more nuanced, rougher and less absolutist than Vash, making for an amazing ride. (The first tale, centered on Luida and little Vash, though, will break your heart). Canon-typical violence and abuses of children and science. General AU Sun, Moon and Stars by @tragic-unpaired-electron Summary: At a crucial moment, Rem does something crazy to save baby Tesla and the entire universe changes. What follows is the saga of the Saverem family - mothers, daughter, sons, a more hospitable planet, but not without social and political challenges for Plants to gain legal personhood. This had me hooked like a thrill ride, beginning to end. One of my absolute favorites in the fandom. Each and every character has a realistic, organic change stemmed from this one pinpoint. (Nai doesn't go genocidal for example, but has points where he could have gone dark and has reasons to choose a better path). Treat yourself and read this! Canon-typical violence. Conrad being particularly a bastard. For my fellow Rem-enjoyers Out Cold by Miricals Summary: Vash, Wolfwood and the girls find themselves sheltering in an old crashed escape ship they found with coldsleep capsules still running on half-dead solar power. Guess who they find. Some sadness with unnamed characters' deaths, otherwise no warnings. Accidents Happen by exai_lostjune Summary: Set in the 1998 anime / first anime only. Rem finds out that crewmate Steve has been beating her kids, not just being bigoted in speech. She beats his ass with a crowbar. That's it, that's the fic. Little Plant Twins get protected by their Mama Bear, Steve gets what he deserves. In-Series / Main Timeframe Let the Ransomed be Free by SpiritusRex Summary: Wolfwood and Meryl impersonate a pair of rich-bitches to get into a auction attended by all of the planet's worst billionaires. Their mission? To find an extract a certain Vash the Stampede, who is up on the auction block as a slave to the highest bidder. Shenanigans ensue. Canon-typical violence / un-fun use of a cattle-prod on our poor Vash. Just Follow My Yellow Light (And Ignore All Those Big Warning Signs) by haveloved Summary: In the aftermath of Vash getting hurt, Wolfwood notices that Meryl hasn't eaten. Milly usually helps her remember to eat. Just a little story about self-care and others-care. Canon-typical violence. WTF? Aaaah! Why did someone write this? / are people going to look at me weird for reading this? Aaaaaaaah! Horror. Sin Eaters by @dragonofeternal Summary: There is an old tradition Vash read of once wherein a ritual meal is consumed to absolve the sins of the deceased. Livio, however, was Wolfwood's first friend and does not intend on letting Vash dine alone. BIG WARNING HERE! This was written for Trigun Body Horror Week. NOT for the faint of heart or the weak of stomach! While I think this is the best story to come out of Trigun Body Horror Week... it is... just that. This one's for gore-fiends - outdoes canon.

I’m really proud of that one. It’s my smut for vashussy week. We need more brad and Wolfwood interactions, they could have such an interesting dynamic.

Post tristamp version of knives needs to learn to live with people. Mostly told from meryl or knives point, later Wolfwood as the gang tries to navigate life with the new intern milly and the ex (?) homicidal maniac that has only agreed to a limited time deal for vash to show him humans aren’t so bad after all. They spend a lot of time trying not to get in trouble or commit violence against another member of the group. Its funny but also full of unresolved tensions and issues and knives isn’t making this easy on anyone. Focuses a lot on meryl with hints of vashwood. Part of why I wrote this was because I thought meryl and knives could have a hilarious relationship of “I hate you so much but unfortunately I agree with you that vash is kind of a walking desaster”

Venture Maidens Ship Headcanons (one for each of my ships):

Arrnodel/Aaron: I like to headcanon Arrnodel as acespec, specifically demisexual (largely influenced by mild spite towards an offhand comment that Brittany made in one of the Q&A's from early on in Fate), and I think that that colours their relationship very heavily. Between her overall lack of experience, her only just now realizing that she can, in fact, experience sexual attraction, and Aaron being pulled between his love for Arrnodel and his loyalty to Mila and Rem, it's not surprising that their relationship got rocky towards the end of the campaign, though I like to think they end up working things out eventually (yes I am once again ignoring the legacy games 💙.)

Kara/Gidget: Chrysanthemums. Ever since the first date way back when, when Kara brought Gidget that bouquet of mums, I can't help but associate them with the flowers (and hey, you read Two Months, you already knew that, I wasn't subtle about it lol). In the language of flowers, they symbolize love, loyalty, and longevity, and I think that's really fitting for them. Kara has a mums-patterned shirt, Gidget makes Kara a bouquet of metal mums, Gidget's favourite perfume is chrysanthemum scented, etc etc.

(bonus Glitchhilde headcanon: you know that post about "rubber duck debugging"? Kara is Gidget's rubber duck.)

Fera/Chess: okay, so sneak preview for Two Weeks, but given that Chess is a demi-deity, I think we as fanfic authors get to break all the rules and let them do whatever the hell we (and they) want. Specifically, they can kinda... communicate telepathically/slightly share a body with Fera, even across long distances? If that makes sense? They can slip a little bit of their immortal consciousness alongside hers, since they're basically her patron, and whatever she sees, they can see, and whatever she feels, they can feel. This, of course, leads to some very fun and kinky sexual experiments. How strongly does Chess feel what Fera does? Do they feel it in their own body, or is their some kind of disconnect? Does the connection go both ways? Can Chess open up the connection a little bit more and (consensually) control Fera during these encounters? They have a lot of fun figuring it out.

Rem/Isolde: God, I'm not even sure what headcanons I have for them that you haven't given me... let me think............ actually, kind of inspired by you anyways, but since Isolde is connected to the Sisters of Sorrow (weavers), I think it would be cool if she was also a crafter - knitting being the obvious choice, but also a seamstress who creates her own dresses, too. I think she'd always wanted to use Rem as a muse/mannequin for some of her dresses, but wasn't able to until Rem ended up in her Wood Elf body (due to being gremlin sized™). After the gods fall and the two of them aren't the main leaders of the Sisters/Furies anymore, they'd have a lot more time to get to indulge in their hobbies, and Isolde gets to dress Rem up all pretty and then make a mess of her later ❤️🤍🖤.

Valerius/Dee: Okay first of all, not a headcanon, but I just want to yell about how much I appreciate their relationship. Valerius is quite overtly flamboyant, in a way that could easily be read as queer, and it's so rare to find m/f relationships where the man is a flamboyant guy but still genuinely attracted to women (rather than just a closeted gay man), and that the woman is genuinely attracted to that flamboyance. They just feel like everyone's cool queer aunt & uncle and I love it. As far as headcanons go, I think that Valerius is quite fastidious about his appearance and hates to (literally) get his claws dirty, but he'll always make an exception for helping Dee out in the kitchen. I think they're also both quite good with kids, and any time that the Sisters/Furies end up taking in any children, the two of them end up being the de facto caretakers (again, cool queer aunt & uncle).

rewatching stampede and yeah glad to see that in every trigun iteration time isn't real. Elendira was there as a child when rolo began being experimented on which was 25 years ish before the present. Vash and knives grew like 10 years in a year but elendira has been stuck as a child for decades. Nico-chan gained years in months and idk about his lifespan now. And roll is plausibly his chronological age he's chronologically at least 35.

Info on vash is above luida's clearance level. And to her knowledge plants are clones from an original cell. Independants are birthed from other plants. Its like f2 hybrids

i still hold by that Plants were probably a result of human experimentation (Luida comments that vash's dna is mostly human though that's not saying much since most of human dna is the exact same as banana dna), but conrad at least doesn't seem to know how plants were created from humans given he's spent all the time since the crash trying to recreate independent plants, or give humans Plants' self sustainability.

Forgot elendira is from the study of clones, one in a series. So the one that met Rolo might have been a different clone/experiment than the one met at the end on season 1. That said conrad implies that the surgical experiments to modify existing humans preceded (to some extent, again rolo and the elendira look alike) the clone series so who knows how old livio and nico-chan are. Once again time is fake.

Ah back to the impregnation imagery. In maximum this was largely centered around knives, him burst from a Plant's primary abdomen in his "revival" the way the earth fleet independent was colonized by tendrils. In Stampede that imagery in centered around Vash instead. Knives and Conrad want to inject souls inside of plants. This is done by Knives connecting/stabbing Vash which sends out roots/tentacles which pierce the other plants abdomens and cause them to swell up like a pregnant person. Also the whole vaginal penetration and egg and sperm imagery with the gate and core while flowers bloom on a giant woman made of their combined powers.

Knives was searching the ship logs because he had a suspicion Rem was hiding something and found Tesl but given Rem was a navigator I wonder when she found out about Tesla. In Maximum I think it's likely Conrad told her when he found out about the twins.

Kni is so stupid all he had to do was pet vash on the head a bit and say he did a god job and vash would have been eating out of the palm of his hand.

Also I was paying attention to the gun shots this time and yeah Vash shoots his gun like 4 times at non-Knives targets and then is emptying barrel after barrel on Knives the few times they meet.

Millions knives, thousands forks, hundreds spoons. Conrad picks up teen(?) kni like a stray kitten off the street. Kid proceeds to name himself millions knives and vow genocide and then starts a cult. Conrad deals with so much.

Thinking about how (to him at least) knives was betrayed and abandoned by the two people he loved most

I find it endlessly amusing that Orange shoved acclaimed Hollywood actor Robert de Niro into an anime for the sole purpose of dying to give Meryl a character arc in season 1 because season 1 really is about Meryl growing and maturing as a person . Which leads to one of the biggest differences between Stampede and Maximum, where in tristamp Meryl is a main character while trimax totally forgets Meryl exists 98% of the time like she shows up in 5 chapters tops.

Met Vash during the beginning of the Trojan war and the two of them became friends very fast when her father (or simply Agamemnon) asked her to come down to the harbour/beach so she could get married to Achilles (or some other reason).

But it is later revealed to be a lie and she should actually get sacrificed to the goddess Meryl to appease the goddess so the wind may return and the ships may sail to Troy.

Unbeknownst to Vash and everyone else however, Milly did not die during the sacrifice as Meryl had swooped down to save her just as the flames were about to reach her and spirited Milly away and made her immortal through Ambrosia.

She has spent the past 800 years on an island as a priestess and huntress of Artemis

Regularly visits the sanctuary of Nysa to deliver ambrosia and nectar to Vash to keep up his immortality and powers.

In the plain of Nysa - Synopsis:

Loosely based on the myth of Persephone and Hades.

Vash, the god of peace and twin brother of Nai, the god of war, has been sheltered for millenia within the safe havens of Mount Olympus. Or rather has been held captive by his brother for millenia.

That is until the goddess of the hunt Meryl and a satyr named Roberto help the deity to escape from Olympus into the human realm. There Vash is forced to hide in a small temple from his brother where he meets the priest Nicholas D. Wolfwood and slowly falls in love with him while also finding a sense of his own independence.

i’m 5’0 sadly the same height since middle school. i liked to play around with the clothing i wear but i’ve been wearing a lot of hime gyaru inspired outfits and just very pink outfits no matter what!! i have dark brown hair with baby pink highlights! My eyes are dark brown, and my skin is pretty tan olive skin tone. I love to sew and design clothing! it’s also my major in university right now. i’m quite extroverted but i can be shy and enjoy my alone time, and i really like quality time and physical touch. I work at the front desk of a tennis court dispite me not ever playing tennis. I’m pretty friendly to everyone around me but only good friend with a small group. I would say tulips are my favorite flowers they are so silly and lovely! i also speak spanish as my first language! i love to take pictures of things and send them to my friends if it reminds me of them. I kinda hide it but i love video games (especially fighting ones lol) :)

New Smyrna's Mysterious Ruins

One tantalizing mystery on Florida's east coast is in New Smyrna's Old Fort Park, across from the city hall. Sitting on the east coast of the park, facing the river, is what appears at first glance to be ruined fort measuring forty by eighty feet. But was it a sort or something else? No one really knows.

Like the Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine, the ruins are constructed of coquina rocks, which would have required a considerable labor force and time. The project would have involved quarrying the coquina, cutting and shaping it, transporting it, and then building the structure. Who could have had such a labor force to build this fort, foundation, or whatever it is? There are no records to tell us.

According to local historian and publisher Gary Luther, the ruins have also been called the "Turnbull Ruins." In 1768, during Florida's British period, one Dr. Andrew Turnbull, a physician from Scotland, recruited 1,403 colonists to establish a settlement in Florida. Dr. Turnbull's wife, Gracia Dura Bin, was from Smyrna, Asia Minor, and so the settlement was named New Smyrna. Sailing in eight ships, 1,255 settlers survived a three-month journey, only to find extreme hardships awaiting them in Florida. First, preparations had been made for only five hundred people. Then there were the mosquitoes, heat, foot shortages, Indians, and the difficult jobs of clearing land and digging drainage canals.

The colonists experienced harsh treatment by overseers, which resulted in rebellions and a dwindling labor force. Nine years later, only about five hundred souls remained in the settlement. Considering all of this, it seems unlikely that these colonists had anything to do with building New Smyrna's weird structure.

There's another question that needs answering: Where was the quarry for the coquina rock used in the construction? If you calculate the number of coquina blocks that went into building this mystery, there would have to be a pretty big pit somewhere around town. In St. Augustine, the old Spanish quarries can still be seen on Anastasia Island, but no such pit exists in New Smyrna.

The ruins are not indicated on maps of the colonial period or mentioned in any records. However, on a map drawn in 1605, the Ais Indians village of Caparaca is shown at the location of the ruins. The ruins are believed to have been within a preexisting Indian shell mound that was probably the village of Caparaca.

In his History of New Smyrna, Gary Luther writes that in 1776, a group of Englishmen from St. Augustine visited New Smyrna "to see improvements, especially a very large stone building that was commenced for a mansion house." Luther adds, "Work was never completed because nearly all the colonists, freed form their indentures, fled to St. Augustine in 1777." Does this mean that the ruins are the remains of a foundation for an unfinished home? Perhaps Turnbull's palace? In 1778, following the collapse of the Smyrna colony, Andrew Turnbull moved his family to Charleston, South Carolina.

During the second Spanish period, which began in 1783, another doctor, Ambrose Hull, received a colonization grant for 2,600 acres, including the site is now Old Fort Park. By 1803, a new settlement had evolved at New Smyrna, with a population of five hundred to six hundred settlers. Hull referred to the location of the ruins as "Mount Olive" because of the olive trees that had been planted there by then. Although Hull offers no observations of any ruins at the site, he did write about having a number of stonemasons at work building a two-story house. Historians are in agreement that Ambrose Hull built his house on an existing foundation. But was it the foundation of the fort? No one is really sure.

We do know that in 1854, John D. Sheldon built a fort-room hotel and home on the site of the ruins. This building and another one later on the site were both eventually destroyed. Now only a crumbling foundation of some structure remains, a silent reminder of people and times gone by.

Remus finding out Regulus from a paper, they'd been gone for a while and they'd assumed Dumbledore had sent him on a mission somewhere. Him having to hunt down Mary across London and tell her, holding her as she sobs. First few months of her losing her stability at every small detail and sobbing, Remus just comforting her being stone cold. And then, one day, many many months later, when Mary has finally made her peace with it, the grief suddenly hits Remus, sending him spiraling.

11. Remus stores Mary's memories in a vial when she decides she can't take any of this anymore once jily dies and she loses her best friend too. He holds onto them and has a pensive and loses himself in it for hours on end. He doesn't leave with her because he wants to hold on for Harry.

OMD - Telegraph (40 years of 1983)

40 Jahre liegt das Brückenjahr 1983 nun schon zurück. Brückenjahr deshalb, weil es wie kein zweites den Übergang von Post-Punk, New Romantik und New Wave in den großen (Brit-) Pop-Hype der Eighties markiert. 1983 ist auch ein spannender Zeitrahmen, in welchem sich Indie-Pop/Rock und Alternative aus dem kommerziellen Nischen-Dasein befreien konnten. Nicht umsonst stammen die Debütalben zweier der wichtigsten Bands dieser Genres - REM und The Smiths aus - eben 1983. Wir werden in losen Abständen an bemerkenswerte Veröffentlichungen des Jahres erinnern und Stücke/Alben aus 1983 gezielt und gebührend würdigen. Soweit wichtige Stücke des Jahres 1983 bereits Tagestip bei Life`s too short for weird music waren, werden diese dann spätestens nochmals am Jahresende auftauchen, wenn ich die Top 50 Empfehlungen des Jahres 1983 präsentieren darf. 

Heute habe ich das Stück Telegraph von Orchestral Manoeveres in the Dark - OMD - herausgesucht, weil es doch leider im Vergleich zu den bekannten OMD Veröffentlichungen oft hinten runterfällt, tatsächlich aber eine der besten Arbeiten von Andrew McCluskey und Paul Humphreys darstellt. Telegraph erscheint 1983 als Single und auf dem vierten OMD Album Dazzle Ships.

I did something similiar recently but I absolutely don’t mind doing it again and getting into some depth! 

Three ships

Snarry (Snape x Harry) - Obviously. Do I even have to mention it? It’s the literal air that I breathe. It’s my soul fuel. Getting into some depth, I wasn’t really aware this ship existed until 2019, when a friend casually mentioned it to me and rec some fics. My life has never been the same since. THE PLOT! THE ANGST! THEIR BURNING CHEMISTRY! THE AMAZING FLEXIBILITY OF THEIR DYNAMICS! THE ENEMIES TO LOVERS TROPE! THE ULTIMATE HARRY POTTER FIX-IT!! Snarry held me up when I was going through the most dreadful of times, made me meet some incredible people and have some really good times. It brought me comfort and joy and some pain too. It’s a mark in me that made me realize just how much I love HP. It made me grow as a person and as a reader and writer.

Remisa (Rem x Misa) -  I define myself by my obsessions, and Death Note was definetly a marking phase for me. I watched Death Note first in 2017 when I had just begun high school. I kind of made a name between my friends AND teachers for being so obsessed with this anime. And amongst it, there was my crippling addiction to the lesbian death godess and her unrequited love story with the goth bimbo. And the musical about it. I am a completely sucker for all that bittersweetness that's so underrated it's criminal. The DN plot literally couldn't exist without them.

Ranmasaki - (Kirino x Kariya) - Before I knew tropes were a thing and didn’t know much english, this was my first enemies to lovers. Inazuma Eleven GO is a very important part of my early life. Those two clicked together so perfectly I remember it being my first yaoi obsession after I got rid of internalized homophobia. A while later, I published my first fanfic ever. It’s so bad I can’t even read it nowadays and I was awfully young (11) to be posting mature content. I don’t think I even fully understood what sex was that time. But it was my first step into becoming a writer. They made my happiest memories while I was going through hell as a middle schooler and take great part in my history.

First ever ship

I mean I shipped a lot of Disney tragic couples as an infant, but when I actually understood shipping and yaoi and fandom stuff, my first ship was Gouenji x Fubuki from Inazuma Eleven. Again, IE is my childhood. And I realized I loved it when I first read a comic dub in youtube. That led to me getting into yaoi anime. And I was a homophobic kid by association at that time. You must imagine my shock when I figured I liked a gay couple. This ship made me a very confused 10 year old and some time later and got me out of church.
