The Wolf’s Call | CLOSED STARTER
Starter for @fadewalking
She’d heard it. No one else in the camp had, though. And it took her some time to evade the eye of her parents. They meant well, with her pregnancy and all, but she wasn’t the kind to enjoy hovering.
Idrilla had always been too independent for that.
She made her way to the area she had heard the wolf’s call coming from, a dagger at her side in case she would require it. She didn’t like being taken off guard by anything without a weapon, after all. And even if what she suspected was true, there was a slight chance of her being wrong.
The woods gave way to old ruins, being retaken by the nature around them. Idrilla remembered traversing these ruins with Rajmahel, trying to find any information of a past long forgotten and shrouded in legend.
She saw a figure near one of the arches and trained her eyes on it. She raised a brow, resting a hand on her hip as she examined it.
“You know, you could have sent a message instead,” she stated plainly.

ship-a-thon
thanks for the tag @allisondraste <3
and i’ll tag @goblin-deity @dirthara-mama @my-da-phase @mocha-writes and @sulevinblade <3 no obligations of course <3
1. First ship you ever wrote fic for:
uuuuUUUHH fanfic would be dorian x bull x lavellan because i have a massive soft spot for polyships and i never ever ever get to see content for them in canon spheres and rareeeeeeeeely in fanon circles so i decided to make my own
2. Ship you write the most now
zevran x ellanis tabris
by like, a lot. ellanis has absolutely dominated my muse energies for a while now and i love him so much so most of my time is writing about him and zevran
3. Ship you read the most now:
i wish i had more time to read! gaaaah! with grad school maniacally stealing all but a handful of my spoons i generally have to choose between reading and writing and generally choose to write. BUUUUT i am reading (slowly, so slowly oh my god) @trvelyans amazing hawke x quizzy fic, fire on fire,  @veridium-bye ‘s superb cassandra x f!quizzy fic, fire in her mouth, and @dalish-ish ‘s beautiful lysette x adan fic, see fire and go towards light all of which i cannot reccomend enough
4. Newest ship:
anders x surana
listen, listen. i have no excuse noure just kinda sprung into being and drop kicked me in the head hollering about mage rights. i didn’t mean for them to end up with anders, originally they were going to be a morriganmancer, but getting to know them and exploring their backstory i found out they’re in love with anders and boy howdy its been a wild ride
5. Rare ship you wanna read more of:
i need more awakening ships in my life -non hawke andermancing, nathaniel howe ships, VELANNA X SIGRUN LIKE HELLO?! i love love love love the awakening crew and anything i can find with them in it has me absolutely catatonic with pleasure
6. Your taboo ship:
uuuUUUH one that i ship or one that i find taboo? i guess a ‘taboo’ ship i think could work if done with utmost care is fenris x anders but honestly the way fandom takes both of their characters and twists them i don’t think i have ever nor will ever see it done the way it needs to be handled in order for it to be a) not fetishistic b) not abusive and c) healthy/growing/loving
a ship i find ‘taboo’ that many others ship [and that can be done well if handled well but it just doesn’t sit too well with me] is any templar/mage ship [especially templar/mage elf looking at you cullavellan] just because there are inherent power imbalances involved and most of the time they’re either overlooked or portrayed as nothing and that unsettles me
7. They never met in canon ship:
HMMM i guess technically anders x surana? noure doesn’t have the, uh, typical origins storyline so their canon is batshit and even if they would have met in awakening if ellanis hadn’t been the warden they still didn’t meet canonically in the circle technically
8. Your unexpected ship:
oh definitely anders x noure -like i said noure took their creation and ran and i’ve been playing catch up ever since
9. The ship you always forget to give love to:
ALL OF MY DA2 SHIPS HOLY FUCK
wren and galahad are so forgotten in my writing hachi machi. i love them and their stories but woof i always seem to put them on the backburner. galahad and fenris have a fuckin sweet almost romance until they gt their shit together and commit and grow and wren is a fucking trainwreck of a lesbian and her relationship with merrill and isabela is something i want to explore in depth but don’t have the spoons to do at the moment
10. Ship your OC with a canon character (if applicable):
literally all of them lads, literally all of them
11. Ship you’re embarrassed to ship:
well. since allison mentioned it in hers i guess the single most embarrasing thing i’ve evr posted and unironically enjoyed to write and partake in an evening of endulging was a sosie [solas x josephine and no you read that right] piece called wicked grace -i’ve even thought about continuing it because it actually had some interesting dynamics and i’m lost in the sauce of appreciating good seduction romance juice
12. Your most romantic ship:
i thought this was going to be an easy answer of ellanis x zevran but honestly? my lavellans are all so romantic? idrilla and solas are all about soft romance, da’ean and bull and dorian show their affections in little things that add up, and linayel romances cass who is the single most romantic character in dai so like, the boy knows what’s up catch him reading her poetry or kissing her forehead or holding her hand 24/7 just because he can
13. Your sexiest ship:
oh fuck probably ellanis x zevran because they have an electric connection and, after they admit it, a strong caring relationship.
14. Your most tragic ship:
i see your solavllan and raise you suranders -idrilla and solas at least have end goals and aspirations and big grand arcs. noure and anders get ash and brands and shattered souls
15. A ship you want more content for:
hoooOOOOOO boy i don’t know i’m starved for like all content but if i had to pick probably more f/f content because my wlw ass is desperate to see other women and feminine-aligned people falling in love and having happy endings

@fadewalking because Chris likes them to suffer
Idrilla had done as he asked, heading to her quarters to get ready. She’d removed her clothing, opting for a robe with a simple sash tie around her waist while she waited. She brushed her hair, making sure the waves were just right for the work Solas was going to do.
She heard the knock on her door and opened it to see him standing there.
“Come in,” she invited him, moving to the side and allowing him entry. She turned her back to him, going further into the room. As she heard the door close, she undid the sash around her waist and allowed the robe to fall off of her shoulders.
“How do you want me?”

@fadewalking because Solas has been teasing her in discord chat all day
He had been teasing her again. He took great pleasure in teasing her due to their difference in height. It was true, Idrilla barely reached his shoulder but he didn’t have to rub it in. She glowered up at him as he seemed so pleased with himself. He looked so smug and all she wanted to do was wipe that look off his face. Her lips formed a bit of a scowling pout as she kept his gaze.
In but a moment, she had grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and pulled him down to her. Her lips pressed a searing, passionate kiss to his, bringing him closer to her. As she pressed further into the kiss, her arms moved to wrap around his neck and her back arched against him. She refused to break the kiss; he would be the one to break it if she had anything to say about it, dammit.
One hand moved to trace back along his neck and collar bone, her head tilting to the side to deepen the kiss. Her mouth opened slightly, giving him a bit of a tease with her tongue. Bring him down closer and tilting her head back more, she was sure to let him know she wasn’t about to stop the kiss.

A Braided Conversation
Drabble Setting and Summary: Shortly after arriving at Skyhold, Rajmahel sent for his sister and daughter to ensure his daughter’s safety and to utilize his sister’s skills. The pair decide to spend some time doing what they used to do; braiding hair and discussing people they know. (based on my set up with in game romances)
Skyhold was starting to come together nicely as a headquarters for the Inquisition. Rajmahel was pleased he had some quarters and a room near for Elera. After setting her to bed, he found some refuge in his own quarters, enjoying the quiet of the evening. The sound of the door creaking open stirred him from his relaxation and he prayed to the Creators it wasn’t another issue needing to be solved. He rose to a stand, turning to face who was coming up the stairs.
He relaxed his shoulders when he saw it was only his sister. She noticed the change in his composure and a playful, small smile lit across her features. She folded her arms, quirking a brow at him.
“What? Worried I was bringing paperwork?”
“Yes, honestly!” Rajmahel responded with a laugh. “It never seems to end.”
“Well, being the Inquisitor is an important job,” Idrilla teased him. “Which begs to question, are you now too lofty and important for some quality braiding time with your older sister?”
“Of course not!” Rajmahel remarked cheerily, making his way over to the fire. Idrilla leisurely made her way there as well, sitting behind him. She began to take strands of his warm, auburn hair in her hands, undoing the worn-out braids and beginning anew. The two didn’t speak for a while, merely enjoying the crackling sound of the fire.
“So, that one shemlen,” Idrilla began, “the mage who’s very concerned about his appearance…”
“Dorian?”
“Yes, him,” Idrilla continued, separating some hair gently and beginning to braid along the side of his head. “You seem keen to head to the library often and he seems keen to be there.”
“Well, you know how I am about books and general stimulating discussions.” His tone wasn’t hiding anything and in fact, an amused smirk had made its way across his face. He gave a bit of a laugh and a wince when Idrilla pulled a little too tightly on a strand of hair.
“Discussions, hm?” She said knowingly. “Are those discussions perhaps on how to better improve certain…Physical skills?”
“There’s hardly a reason to,” another pull, “but it’s always good to not think too highly of one’s abilities. In general.” And another, “But, uh. No. We haven’t. Not yet, anyway.”
“That’s what I thought. Don’t lie to your asa'ma'lin, da’len.” Idrilla’s voice was smooth and amused. The pair had always been opened and honest with each other, often teasing about the relationships they had. Her hands paused in their work, though, as a more serious demeanor settled on her. “Rajmahel, I think you know my concerns. You’re both so…Different.”
The comment and concern in her voice caused Rajmahel’s shoulders to falter a bit. That’s true, they had very different backgrounds. But maybe that would compliment them more than push them apart. He wasn’t sure what was to come of it or where it was going. All he knew was that he enjoyed the time he spent with Dorian and he hoped Dorian felt the same. He wanted him to be happy, after all. Rajmahel glanced over his shoulder at his sister, an appreciative smile on his face. She rested a hand on his shoulder, and he reached up, resting his hand upon it.
“I know you’re looking out for me, like you’ve always done, and I appreciate it,” he explained. “And I know on the outside we appear very different. But I like to think we’re not as terribly different as people perceive.” Eager to change the subject, he cleared his throat and added, “how have you been settling in? Are you uncomfortable at all?”
“With this many shems walking around, of course I am,” Idrilla remarked, working on a particularly intricate braided style. “I don’t trust them—”
“You hardly trust anyone—ow!”
“That may be true,” her tone was harsh, spitting from old wounds, “but shems have a history. Don’t forget about the Dales. I make do, though, and they know not to cross me.”
“And what of your dreams? Have they gotten less severe?”
“The Breach causes a weakness in the Veil, which only heightens my own sensitivities,” Idrilla explained, “but I have learned some exercises to help control them. The Keeper gave me a good starting point, but I needed to study some more advanced techniques.”
“Ah, so I see you’ve spoken with Solas.” He was pleased to hear that and eager to hear his sister’s opinion on him. Rajmahel had been greatly interested in what Solas had to say and learning all he could, yet he knew he could be a bit of a wide-eyed optimist. “And what are your thoughts?”
“He’s intelligent, artistic, handsome, clever but almost in a cunning way,” Idrilla explained. “He looks like a man who knows more than he says and lies in wait, almost like a wolf away from his pack. But a wolf never lasts long on its own. It requires support of a pack, no matter how proud it is.”
“You think him proud?”
“Of course I do,” Idrilla stated. “It’s in the way he walks and he talks. It’s subtle but it’s there.”
“And you also think he’s handsome.”
“He has a good face and keen eyes. I’d be a fool not to say so. It makes our conversations more pleasant.” Idrilla drew her hands away from Rajmahel’s hair. “And done.” She reached for the side table by the couch, grabbing the mirror and handing it to Rajmahel. He examined himself and smiled.
“And as usual, you’ve outdone yourself.”
“I always do.”
“Now who’s the proud one?”

The News
After the defeat of Corypheus, Idrilla finds herself not feeling the best and decides to visit the healer, Aurora, to find out why. ( @fadewalking )
She’d been feeling uncomfortable for a few weeks. Random bouts of nausea through the day, some swollen and tenderness to her chest, and general fatigue. She had thought it would fade but Idrilla found it stayed and she continued to feel…Off. Reluctantly, she decided to see the healer at Skyhold.
Things had calmed down since Corypheus was defeated and that was around the time she’d noticed the symptoms more and more. Rajmahel had been running about with political matters and there was less of a need for her skills and expertise. That, along with Solas leaving abruptly after Corypheus’s defeated, had given Idrilla time to slow down and actually examine herself. She wondered if that were a cause of the discomfort, but she should be careful.
As she listed the symptoms to the healer Aurora, the human’s blue eyes had gone round. She had suggested a test, and Idrilla had obliged her. She pressured for what Aurora suspected it to be, but Aurora refused to say until after the test was done. So that left Idrilla to sit and wait in the medical building, a thousand possibilities running through her head. She was alone, save for one elf assistant who was tidying up some of the empty cots. Idrilla watched as she moved about, fixing the sheets and pillows, as a way to distract her mind.
“Idrilla?” Aurora’s clear Fereldan accent drew Idrilla from her observations and she turned to look to the door she came from. Aurora glanced about, seeming to make sure only the three of them were about and that the elf assistant was a good bit off. She approached, wringing her hands and Idrilla knew that was a nervous habit of hers.
“What is it? Don’t tell me I’m dying,” Idrilla jested with a dry tone.
“Oh, no no, not that, not that at all,” Aurora said, raising her hands up and waving the notion off. She settled on a stool beside Idrilla, clearing her throat and considering how to continue. “When was the last time…You, uh…Bled?”
“Elves have a longer time between bleeding,” Idrilla remarked. “It’s not like you humans with your monthly cycles.”
“Oh. Well,” Aurora continued, “when was the last time you had…Well, you know?”
“You’re beating around the bush,” Idrilla pointed out, clear annoyance in her voice. Resting her face against her hand, she looked out the window with a scowl. She didn’t want to think about it, not there, not now. Then, it struck her why she’d be asking such things. Idrilla turned and looked at Aurora with disbelief.
“Idrilla…You’re with child.”
“With child?!” Idrilla repeated and the sound of something clattering drew her attention. Aurora turned as well, seeing the elf assistant had dropped the tray she’d been carrying.
“Ithelana, are you alright?” Aurora asked.
“Y-yes, my lady, I think I just need some air,” she responded.
“Well, you have set all the bedding straight and handled a good amount of the cleaning,” Aurora said. “You should take the rest of the day off.”
“Thank you, lady Aurora,” Ithelana said with a curt nod before leaving the building.
“Twitchy girl,” Idrilla noted.
“Oh, you should see her when I have to perform any major operation,” Aurora remarked. “I try to keep her out if I can help it.” She drew a breath. “Yes, with child.”
“You’re absolutely sure?”
“Uh, yes, there’s a reaction with the chemicals from your body which—”
“And there’s no doubt?”
“Um, none at all.”
Idrilla was quiet for a moment, taking in the information. A hand moved to rest on her abdomen, noting that there was a slight swelling in it she hadn’t paid attention to. She thought it was just the inactivity. This wasn’t how she’d thought it would be, honestly. To be with child and the father not…There. She remembered what Harea went through after she gave birth to Elera. Rajmahel had been there with her, though, to the end. While that was only a small chance, it still was something heavy to remember and to worry about the danger of it alone.
But another part of her forgot the worry and felt the beginning of excitement. The idea of her own child to raise and teach. To continue the elves as their population waned. And just to hold the child and love the child. The idea sent a warmth through her and she splayed her fingers out on her abdomen at the thoughts.
“So how long has it been….?” Aurora’s question drew Idrilla back to the present.
              “Around two months,” she confirmed.
“That sounds about right with your symptoms and how little you’re showing,” Aurora remarked and then beamed. “Oh, what news! I’m sure Solas will be ecstatic when he comes back.”
Idrilla’s face fell at that. The idea of others knowing and she knew he wasn’t…Going to come back. And she didn’t want to deal with anyone here giving her a sympathetic gaze when she went by. Idrilla reached out and grabbed Aurora’s sleeve, forcing the woman to look her in the eye.
“You are to tell no one about this,” she told her sternly. “I want you to know; I am going to go home to my parents and have the child. But I don’t want you to tell anyone. Not a single person, do you understand, Aurora?”
              “Yes but…Why?”
“I like my privacy,” Idrilla told her, standing up and heading out the door. The next step was to inform Rajmahel and prepare to leave and go home.
***********************************************************************
Idrilla waited in Rajmahel’s quarters, resting on the couch by the fireplace and twirling her scarf anxiously in her hand. He was entertaining some Orlesians, of course, they were trying to bask in his glory. Idrilla found them to be rather annoying, honestly. They were quick to denounce him and now they elevated him.
“Idrilla!” Rajmahel greeted her as he came up the stairs. “Josephine told me you were waiting for me.” Idrilla looked to him and he was as cheery as ever. With a wide smile and bright eyes, he could charm anyone he desired to with his genuine personality. She returned his smile, rising to a stand and holding her arms open for a hug. He gladly obliged, wrapping his arms around her. “Now, what is this about? Need a new training dummy after slicing up the one you just got?”
“No,” Idrilla laughed, pulling back. “I’m going to go home, Raj.”
“But…Why?” She hated when he sounded like that. The drop in his voice, the disappointment. She withdrew from him, rubbing her arm and going to the window. She swallowed and gave a bit of a dry laugh.
“I am with child,” she stated and looked over her shoulder. “Solas’s child.”
“Ah, I see,” Rajmahel said solemnly, walking up behind her. “And your pride won’t allow you to remain.”
“I have no desire to contend with the remarks people will make,” she stated firmly. “Can you imagine Vivienne?”
“Yes, and I understand completely,” Rajmahel said, resting his hands on her shoulders and kissing the top of her head. “Elera and I will miss you terribly, you know.” He turned her around to face him, giving her a warm smile. “And you must write updates and if you cannot, you must have Babae or Mamae write.”
“Of course, I will, I will tell you everything about your little niece or nephew,” Idrilla laughed. “Now, I hope to be home within the next two weeks so I can be sure to rest.”
“Yes, I will see to you having safe passage,” Rajmahel said. “Josephine as some ambassadors for the Inquisition headed that way tomorrow.”
              “Raj—”
“No, that would be best! We do not want you to stress yourself traveling alone, no matter how much you protest.”
“Fine,” Idrilla agreed, rolling her eyes. “I will give Babae and Mamae your love. And Rajmahel. Don’t tell anyone but Elera and make sure she doesn’t tell anyone.”
              “You have my promise.”

@fadewalking sent:  "have you ever been in love?" for Idrilla
The question took her by surprise and she looked up from the sketching she had in hand. The pair were in some ancient ruins in the Emerald Graves, Idrilla making some sketches to study later. It had been a comfortable quiet between the two of them, merely enjoying each other’s company.
“Why?  Worried about some phantom competition?” She teased him lightly, a playful gleam glinting in her eyes for a passing moment. She let out a sigh and leaned back, looking straight ahead and thinking. He deserved some sort of answer, she supposed.
“I’m not the young child I used to be, who believed in a one true love fancy,” she started. “So yes, I have been in love before. I’ve also had my crushes and my intended. He was a hunter from another clan, nice enough, handsome but...More of a friend.” She gave a pause, a heaviness filling the air for a moment. “He was killed by humans.”
She paused to remember again.
“Another, beautiful girl from another clan. But she had an intended bondmate and we didn’t develop much than a brief relationship.”
The next one that came to mind was more painful and she ran her thumb along her drawing tool as she considered the memory and considered telling it.
No.
“But that’s all in the past,” she said, her eyes meeting Solas’s, a small twitch to her lips created the ghost of a smirk. “In the here and now...There may be a possibility.” She allowed him to consider that statement before adding, “And what of yourself?”
