[On the Shoujo Litreture of the 1920s - 1940s of Yoshiya Nobuko, whose writing is at the root of all Shoujo manga and who was essential in creating the genre. Yoshiya Nobuko was herself an open lesbian, who lived in an romantic relationship with another woman for 50 years, and whose writing was firmly rooted in the friendships and comraderie between young girls right before they become woman and move on to be wives and live within the confines of “the family”.]
