anyways i don't often do this, but I made a ship kid (kinda??????) for retrorock // freshgrease. its name is goulash. its design is still a work in progess, so don't take anything as absolute here

it was created during a freak accident between fresh and greaser when fresh's host body was dying, and he needed to move into another host body before it died, so greaser allowed fresh to infiltrate his. some real nasty work happened (I haven't worked out the exact details yet lolol), and a piece of greaser's soul and fresh's parasite fused or whatever and escaped. that was goulash. and straight after it slipped into some unfortunate AU and took a host body, though very violently, creating a huge star-shaped fracture around the left eye. goulash does this with every host body it steals.

this also means goulash was never a child at any point (unlike literally all the other ship kids). it'll always steal adult host bodies since kid hosts are too weak (and totally lame)

uh anyway. I've been working on his personality and design more than his origins, and all you need to know currently is that he's really really stupid and designed off of old rockstars

though i feel really cringy for adding him with the other ship children (bc I feel like I'm almost forcing him in there when it feels like he doesn't belong bc nobody knows him), I have quite a few comics and pieces featuring him so people better understand his character since I genuinely think he'd be a lot of fun (and hey if people are interested in him, then later I'll officially flesh out everything and make his origins public)

anyway upset i didn't add lux :( I love her sm, but she came to mind afterward. also don't look into the logistics of both pj and cray being here. it's better not to think about it

Arcane's Music Videos and Storytelling

Many have complained about Arcane Season 2 overusing "music videos" compared to Season 1 and I agree. Two in particular - "Sucker" in episode 2 and "Hellfire" in episode 3 - are particularly bothersome because instead of being supplementary to the storytelling, they replace the storytelling. Entire plotlines are told through these music videos and barely expanded upon further through writing. Despite both depicting very major events that are incredibly impactful for both Zaun and the characters involved.

First, the Chembarons' gang war. Shown entirely through the "Sucker" sequence, dialogueless. Later, there are only a few brief written scenes related to it (Smeech heading to Margot and the meeting table discussion, neither of which actually depict the war). Smeech is later killed and the gang war story is abandoned by episode 3. This would have been such a major event for Zaunites. Not just for major characters, but for everyone who has the misfortune to live in that city. If they had actually written this subplot out, the worldbuilding could have been expanded upon and given much more depth, these Chembarons with excellent designs could have been fleshed out and not felt like a waste of characters, and we would have gotten more insight into the lives of the average joes in Zaun. It would have been a natural continuation of the Chembarons' introduction in Season 1 too. This subplot could have easily taken up the entirety of Act 1, but because of too many competing subplots, it had to be cut short and summarized by the song.

Next, Caitlyn's squad releasing The Grey into Zaun. Shown entirely through the "Hellfire" sequence, also dialogueless. The impact of this action is only briefly mentioned later through dialogue, when really this would have had a huge effect on many people living in Zaun. If they had written this entire sequence out regularly, we could have had character building for the three new enforcers as they interact with Vi and Cait while moving through Zaun. We need this, as two of them don't even have names yet. One doesn't have any dialogue yet. We could have seen in detail the impact of their actions on Zaun, rather than only being told. We could have had much needed characterization for Vi. What was her reaction to this plan when it was first conceived? Did she oppose it initially and have to be convinced?

Edit: The "Hellfire" sequence also covered all the Chembarons getting wiped out and Shimmer being dismantled.

I want to experience these events as a story, not as an AMV. It's admirable how artistic and beautifully made these sequences are, but they are the epitome of "style over substance." In my opinion, rather than being at the beginning of the episodes, these sequences could have worked as end credits. They are summaries of subplots after all. The episodes themselves could have these storylines written out regularly, and then the end credits have beautiful imagery summarizing what happened.

They could have taken a page out of Chainsaw Man's book. Each episode of Chainsaw Man had a highly stylized end credits sequence, all with different animation styles, with imagery of that particular episode's plot. The episodes themselves have normal written storytelling. This way you can flex your artistry as much as you want, without sacrificing the writing. Arcane's end credits are just a black screen with text. If anything could have been replaced with stylized visuals and have nothing of value lost, it was that.

Oh yeah, I have another AU and just like the Harlequin AU, it's a huge one

For the uninitiated, Origins AU is a slice of life + action adventure comedy centered around the Glamrock cast, as they try to get by starting their own band and maybe, kicking ass. No, Security Breach & Ruin isn't canon to this AU, its it's own world (though SB characters can show up as a minor cast).

I'm pretty sure the reason this au started was because I saw the baby Monty decal from Gator golf and thought, "Why is Monty the only one with this? The others should also have their origins too" (hence the name)

These are all SUPER old art btw, from all the way back to 2022

One thing led to another, and with the joint effort with my bf @nobody-nexus, Origins AU began with baby decal concepts, to fleshed out world(s), backstories and lore.

Lots, and LOTS of em. But for the sake of not boring anyone with details, I'll summarize.

Freddy is an Alien space bear Supersoldier called an "Ursin'ul" (play on words on "ursine" and "arsenal") crash landing on earth, refusing to participate in propaganda and colonizing other planets once he found out the truth about his kind

Chica is a rebellious yet naive meravian Princess who learns forbidden knowledge to be able to walk on land and explore the world beyond the sea, as long as she keeps hydrating

Roxy is the bad girl small-time rockstar that's closed off to most people due to her upbringing, and transforms into a werewolf when full moon hits

Monty is a 9-foot tall irradiated alligator being pursued by the government after he broke out, whom wants to study him in order to create potential bio-weaponized supersoldiers

And Bonnie is... Roxy's roommate getting caught in the crossfire. A normal guy with a lot of uncles (almost ALL Bonnies from the entire franchise are related to him), and owns a bowling alley. That's it lmao, he doesn't have a secret or a superpower like everyone, he's just the average menkisser

They're always pursued by The Rockstars in this AU, all with personal motives behind their actions: Francois being forced to find and retrieve Freddy by Levi's (Lefty) orders, Clarabelle wants revenge for her eye from Roxy, Felix is down horrendous for Chica and wants to marry her against her will, and Brian is tasked with retrieving Monty.

Other variants in the franchise have their own thing too lmao, HW dlc being weird country guys, Toys being a Mafia group/Toymakers with an ongoing feud with the Funtimes, Withereds/Classics being veterans in the ent. industry, and Fury's Rage enemies aren't enemies, but Monty's friends from his time in confinement. There's Nightmares too, but they aren't a thing until the end.

I've made lots of shitposts, artworks and designs alongside Nexus for this au, and one day, I wanna come back to it and work on tweaking stuff as well as story beats. For now, I got a lot of things I have to work on first and this serves as an archive for the au's ideas.

“How stunning, cielo. Made it all yourself huh? Oh, I see that.” With a pinch to your cheek, he forces his mouth to grin. Ignores the sting at the corners of his eyes and the crawl along his flesh.

Why haven’t you seen him wear it once (1) out of the house? Well, a gift by your hand is simply too precious to allow outside eyes to behold!

Alessio is almost instantly stringing the poorly knitted scarf over his shoulders and marveling at it like the finest buttons in his collection. Meanwhile, Talisen holds the mess of yarn in his large hands like a sea of diamonds. Eyes scanned across the surface and commenting on how avant garde the design appears.

You wouldn’t be able to get the damned scarfs off of them. Even when people around the village commented on how peculiar the strange but well-known men’s fashion was. . .

With tears you’d look at them. Begging to know if your creation truly is ugly. And with wide eyes, hushing voices combined with tender touches, they vehemently deny.

“Ugly!? Dearest how could it ever? It is marvelous.”

“Has someone said anything? Rest assured, they will be silenced.”

“SO IT IS UGLY!?”

“NEVER.”

He does little to change his expression. Blank eyes remain in all their glory as they scan every inch of the disaster cradled in the palm of your hands.

“Do you like it?” You hum.

“It is the most hideous piece of clothing I have had the pleasure of viewing in awhile.”

You gasp at his bluntness. And all he does? Pluck it from your hands and wrap it around his neck. His typical dry tone not changing once. “But thank you.”

You’d see him wear it all week. And in public too — not batting an eye and acting as though the spew of colours was not clinging to his neck.

Max steps out of the elevator and makes his way to Daniel's office.

About twenty minutes ago he received a message from Daniel saying there's a new development in their case and he should come by his office.  

They haven't gotten far into their case yet – a burned car left on the side of the road with a body of a woman inside and a bag of baby things in the trunk – that's all they got. 

Max left the crime scene early – the body had too much flesh. And flesh is not his specialty, it's Lewis’. So, Max went back to the lab to catch up on some other work, mostly answering emails and reading through a few articles from his colleagues and students. He was about to catch up on a new volume of Cultural Anthropology when Daniel's message interrupted him. 

Now, Max is getting closer to the glass doors of Daniel’s office and hears something that sounds like a cat yowling. Then, he walks into the room and stops in his tracks. 

Daniel is standing in the middle of the room bouncing a crying baby in his arms. He looks stressed, frantically whispering, trying to calm the infant. Then he looks up and sees Max. 

“Bones!” He smiles weakly and tries to say something else, but the baby's cries interrupt him. 

Max looks at the baby’s – a girl, judging by her pink onesie – tear-stained red face and his brain kicks into action. 

“Daniel, what are you doing?” Max asks and reaches for the baby. “Something is clearly upsetting her.”

Daniel’s face looks shocked, but he doesn't resist handing the infant to Max. 

“Wh-I didn't know what to do! She just suddenly started crying!” Daniel sputters, holding up his hands. 

“Don't you have a niece and a nephew?” Max asks, accepting the baby. 

“I didn't actually raise them! I only see them on holidays,” he says, sounding a little disappointed. 

Max holds the baby close to him and immediately senses what’s been upsetting her. “She smells. She probably needs her diaper changed.”

Daniel exhales a soft “oh” and points to one of the chairs. “There's her diaper bag.”

Max looks around the office for a table or a chair to lay the baby on, but the only desk in the room is covered in papers and all the chairs are too small. So he kneels on the floor, it has a nice plush rug on, but Max strips off his jacket and lays the baby on it. 

“So, uh. That's the development I've messaged you about. We found her up in a tree right above the car, pretty much right after you left. Lewis said the explosion launched her carrier up there. Very lucky,” Daniel says, watching Max while he changes the baby's diaper. 

She’s calmer now and her watery brown eyes are curiously looking up at Max.

“Not lucky, baby's carriers are designed to protect babies,” he explains and moves up to sit in one of the chairs,  holding the baby in his lap. “Do we know her name?” 

“Kind of. Her bag has “Mila” embroidered on it, so I'm guessing that's her name?” Daniel assumes, sitting down in the chair next to them. 

Max reaches to look closer at the bag and finds a small lion toy tucked carefully in one of the compartments. He hands it to Mila and she immediately puts it in her mouth. 

Mila’s head is covered in soft stands of light hair and her pale cheeks are dusted pink from crying earlier. If Max had to guess, she is about five or six months old. 

“Anyway, I need to call Social Services so they can take care of her until we find her dad or other relatives,” Daniel sighs and reaches to tickle Mila’s tummy.

Max reflexively presses Mila closer to himself. “There's no need. I’m registered as a foster parent, I can take care of her.”  

“You are?” Daniel gawkes, his eyebrows raised. 

“Yes,” Max nods. 

When he was in the system, a lot of caregivers there were bad – some abusive and cruel, some ignorant and dismissive, but most of them simply didn't know what to do. Somewhere during his sixth foster home he decided to become a foster parent himself and make sure to be a good one. So, after he got his first doctorate, he went through as many baby courses as possible and applied to become a foster parent. 

“I-um. I didn't know that?” Daniel says, bringing Max out of his thoughts. 

“Well, this is the first time it came up,” Max shrugs. He wasn't actually planning on becoming a full-time caregiver, his job is too hectic for that. But it's nice, living with the knowledge that you have the ability to take care of a child who needs it. 

Mila is silently observing their conversation, mouthing on her lion plushie.

Daniel sighs again and stands up. “Well, I still need to make a few calls to try and find her relatives,” he says and reaches for the phone.

“It’s okay. I will take her to the lab. And stop at a store to buy her food, she is probably hungry,” Max says, gathering Mila in his arms.

Daniel steps through the glass doors of the lab and his eyes land on a group of people on the forensic platform. Everyone in their team – Max, Charles, Carlos and even Oscar and Lewis are huddled around one of the examination tables. As he moves closer and scans his access card, he  hears soft coos and loud squeals of laughter. 

“We never had someone this cute on this table!” Charles exclaims and bends closer to the table. 

“Or so alive,” Carlos chuckles.

Daniel stands beside them and finally sees Mila, lying on a soft blanket covering the table. She is giggling and smiling, apparently enjoying the attention.

Oscar tickles her foot and more squeals and laughter fill the space. Everyone around the table aws, smiling wider.

This is the moment Max looks up from and notices Daniel. 

“Daniel, you are finally here! Did you find Mila’s family?” he asks, reaching for Mila’s hand. She grabs his finger and tries to put it in her mouth.

“Not yet. But we are looking,” Daniel answers. Mila blabbers when Max doesn't let her eat his finger. 

“Okay, as much as I love having Mila here, we need to continue working,” Lewis sighs. There’s a note of disappointment in his voice. “Figuring out how her… the victim died might help with finding her family,” he stumbles.

There’s a pause. Everyone looks at Mila remembering why she’s here in the first place. Max is the first to recover.

“Yes, let’s go, Mila. The forensic platform is not a suitable place for little babies,” he says, gathering Mila and her blanket.

Daniel follows them to Max’s office. It has Mila’s carrier and diaper bag sitting there on the couch. Max settles Mila in the carrier and she starts fussing.

“Oh, no, don’t be upset, Mila,” Max coos and reaches into the bag. “Here, how about some visual and sensory stimulation?” He asks and gives her the lion plushie. Mila grabs the toy and calms down.

“You know, lions are actually very dangerous for little babies,” Max says sternly, watching Mila play with her toy.

It makes Daniel chuckle. Only Max would be so serious while speaking with a 6 months old infant. 

“Daniel, will you look after her while I examine the remains?” Max asks, looking at Daniel where he’s sitting in one of the chairs. “I’ve changed and fed her, so she will probably fall asleep soon.”

“Sure, Bones, no problem,” Daniel replies. They don’t have any more new leads on the case and his other obligations don’t seem important right now anyway.

Max thanks Daniel and exits the office. Daniel moves to sit closer to Mila and starts to gently rock her carrier.

He felt shocked when Max reached for Mila earlier that day in his office. He wasn’t expecting Max to know how to handle babies and then he certainly didn’t expect him to be a foster parent. But when the initial shock of suddenly being responsible for an infant faded, he realized it’s not that surprising.

Everyone always assumes Max is cold, or even apathetic. But after working with him for a little over a year, Daniel knows that Max cares very deeply about most things, he just tries to hide it, sometimes even from himself. 

So, it’s not that surprising to find out that Max is a foster parent. Since Daniel knew him, Max was always kind to children, making sure to include them in conversation when they need to gather information, or distracting them when the conversation is too heavy for a child. He even did a few presentations in schools, talking about archeology and anthropology. And when their museum does tours for kids, he tries to tag along and sometimes even ends up doing the tour himself.

Point is, Max is good with kids, he knows how to take care of them. But seeing him with Mila in his arms makes Daniel feel…something. Having to take care of a child together with Max evokes something close to longing in Daniel’s chest and he tries really hard not to think about it.

Even now, sitting in Max’s office, looking after Mila – her warm brown eyes and soft blond hair – it makes Daniel take a shaky breath.

“You know, little Mila, Max is very good at his job. He will figure out what happened to your mom,” he soothes, gently petting her hair. Max was right, her eyes are starting to drop, she will probably fall asleep soon.

He continues to rock her carrier and soon she falls asleep, her lion plushie tucked in her arms.

It takes them twelve hours in total to find, contact and fly Mila's family. In retrospect, that’s a lot of time, but to Max it feels like it barely passed. One moment he’s feeding her and getting ready for bed, Mila softly snoring in the cradle Max bought for her, and the next moment he’s signing papers and saying goodbye to her.

Apparently Mila’s mother was raising her by herself and sometimes the mother’s sister took care of her too. Mila’s aunt – Anna – seems nice, she has the same warm brown eyes that welled up with tears when she saw Mila. Anna and her husband are not able to have children of their own and taking care of Mila was always important for them. Max sat in the conference room, watching them sign the papers for adoption. 

Max feels sad, his eyes tingle when he looks at Mila and says one final goodbye to her. 

She grabs his finger again. Max tries to gently pull it away. 

“Come on, Mila. It's time to say goodbye,” he says, voice cracking. Prying his finger out from her hand feels like ripping his heart out. 

He thinks it's irrational, even though he knows it's written in their DNA to protect and care for their young. But Mila is not his, he just took care of her until they found her real family. 

Max thinks about going home this evening and gathering all the things he bought for Mila – her toys and clothes, her cradle and food. He will need to find somewhere to donate it all. He would ask Anna, but she and Mila left a long time ago now. 

Max tries to mentally make a list of all the places and people he can donate Mila’s things to when a warm hand lands on his shoulder.

“Are you okay, Max?” Daniel asks, his eyes concerned. 

Max takes a deep breath and nods. “Yes, I just…need a moment.”

“Do you need time and space?” Daniel stands beside him, his hand still on Max’s shoulder.

“No, no. Just time,” Max sighs, smiling weakly.

Daniel sits in the chair beside him. “Can I sit with you then?” he asks, voice a little thick.

“Yes…please,” Max breathes out. 

They sit together until it doesn't hurt anymore

Slight focus shift from the hashira group and inserting other two characters that ended up being involved the story arc for the fantasy au c: Once they were fleshed out and finally introduced in the story, had to do a reference for them so here are the two bois c: They are based off of the two gods, Raijin and Fujin so took their original designs and mixed it into the god's designs to get something in the middle.

Sekido and Karaku are two brothers, the original idea that Zoh/Urogi/Aizetsu weren't going to be involved but that has changed so their initial designs hold aspects of their other sides (Sekido having Aizetsu and Zohakuten features, Karaku having Urogi's beads, etc) Sekido is the larger/older brother, god of lightning (Raijin). He's pretty tall at 10'3" and like his canon self is stern/arrogant/selfish and doesn't have company often. He resides in the northern region in a temple in the mountains where Gyomei is his temple guardian while he is away. Karaku is the god of winds (Fujin), and resides in the Southern region in his own temple. If not found there, he's often around Aizetsu and Urogi who act has his messengers (he's the nicer one of the two (Urogi and Aizetsu are tengu messengers)) so he's often roaming.

Ruka (Kyojuro's mother) was a sickly human and was saved when Shinjuro sacrificed one of his own tails to make her into a kitsune which later they ended up having Kyojuro and Senjuro. The later ended up being deathly ill, due to some unknown curse and Ruka came across Sekido by chance and pleaded with him to save Senjuro. In order to do so, she had to offer one of her own tails in trade which he agreed to break the curse and cure the boy considering that he was willing to listen to her. Now, he wears the tail around his belt as a reminder (also considering that kitsunes are very prideful of their tails).

With Obanai's curse the group goes north and meets up with Ruka who knows about Sekido and she leads the group to the god's temple to see if he's willing to help (also considering that Urogi is envious of Sekido's kitsune tail and steals something from Mitsuri so they're trying to track the tengu down as well to get the item back).

He refuses initially, but after both Shinjuro and Kyojuro offer their own tails he eventually agrees to assist and look into the reasoning as to why his soul is fractured.

I'll probably get around to doodling Urogi and Aizetsu, and maybe Ruka/Shinjuro. Zohakuten hasn't made an appearance yet, but we are leaning towards him being a higher entity/god like Orochi (dragons duh) but that could change c:

Also yes Mui and Gyomei are getting their own sheets eventually too - Gyomei was ??? for the longest time until it clicked and Mui just needs some refining/revisitng of the original idea!

Briar. She's wearing it most days, just to intimidate bitches who end up in her lap. She does feel like she'd love to have a flesh dick sometimes but even if she did have one, she'd be wearing sheaths of the most inhumane design just to cause pain. Also it's just fun making you gag on it for hours as she lazily tells you she hasn't cum yet, do better.

Bailey. Doesn't even put it on. Takes it out of her drawer and rams it into you just to make you shut up. Only wears it sometimes, mostly when you've sold yourself for rent instead of money to her. Bailey is SO fuckin mean about it too. Fully dressed with either her skirt hitched up just enough or her slacks zipped open.

Harper. This one is kinda a lie. Pathetic strap game, shaky thrusts but she is the one who would get you pregnant through her strap. Or herself. She's insane. Fully smears her strap with semen from an unwilling or willing donor that looks enough like her or is going to make you cum, smear that over her strap and then slap it on you, riding it herself. Congrats. You got baby trapped through a strap.

I want to try and flesh out relationships and dynamics more i think thats something i kind of struggle with with ocs so..that is what the rest of this post will be backstory, character traits, etc etc if you chose to read i will love you forever

Step 1: Gosh...I love making characters really reeaaallllyyy awkward and that's exactly what Lenae is. Her awkwardness is really just stemming from anxiety or nervousness. Qiu and her's dynamic is so sweet to me I love characters being to nervous to say things and then another saysit for them omg im weak yeah thats so them. Lenae and Tam on the other hand....it's not like Lenae doesn't liker her she knows she means well and is extremely sweet but Lenae just can't understand why she is so loud and energetic all the time, she finds it hard to keep up. She IS the sweetest kid you would ever come across though, she will do anything to see you smile. Her earmuffs are a constant, everyone else may think it's just a comfort thing but it is in fact a noise thing we just don't know that yet guys(undiagnosed autism is craayyy)

Step 2: Still being that same shy, sweet kid while looking emo AND TRANSGENDER?? not for the weak. Still shy and reserved maybe even more so but no one really expects anything else. I think meek is a very good descriptor, they get freaked so so easily like has never had a peaceful day in their life. However, Halloween IS their favorite time of the year, it's an aesthetics thing i guess. Step 3: I really don't know a lot of what I could write for step 3 since like nothing of it is out in the actual game SO were just gonna go like personality kind of wise y'know? I think they've definitely mellowed out AT LEAST A LITTLE...like omg guys they can sometimes order for themselves at restaurants!! They're very opinionated and has a strong stance on what they believe but like not in a mean way they just don't understand why others would think differently. Building on their creative abilities, they probably have plans to go to a college for art or fashion. Or maybe they'll start their own business who knows! It's okay to not have everything planned out anymore, some spontaneity is welcome in their life. Now that they've finally been able to be more open, mainly around friends, they'll say something a little too...unsettling or freaky??? to be normal, it's a little weird to get used to oopsies

FINALLY got around to making some horses for Echo's herd! Starting off with just five girlies, each one joined Echo during her journey.

While I have no concrete story yet, and not sure if I ever will (I like to change things a lot), these were some of the concepts I've had in mind for awhile.

Hopefully you're all familiar with Fox and Echo already! While Fox is the man of the herd, Echo is the real leader here. And these are her ladies.

Mink was the first horse to join the herd, a young yearling whose a little too naive for her own good. She needed a more experienced horse to look after her, and Echo was happy to have her company.

Paloma was the next to join, a gorgeous mare but a very lonely one. She had lost her herd and was captured by wranglers. With Echo's help, she escaped and was eager to join her. Her father was a tamed Arabian, and she never got to meet him.

Charlotte sticks out like a sore thumb amongst the herd, being a Belgian Draft that was owned by settlers. She had a hard life, and was lucky to be given the chance to run away thanks to Echo's antics. She is the oldest, but she keeps up with the others pretty well.

Mesa was a horse wrangler's steed, though she really detested her job. She was happy to abandon that life when Echo gave her the chance. A very stereotypical chestnut mare, Mesa gets on Echo's nerves but she doesn't have the experience to challenge her rank.

Shikoba was raised by the Choctaw, but found herself far from home and alone. She was captured by wranglers, but managed to escape when the Lakota appeared to steal the horses the wranglers had. She would meet Ghost before she'd meet Echo.

Since they're all basically background characters, I don't foresee myself fleshing them out much. Any more mares I add will probably just have names and that's it. However, I will have a lot of fun making foals for them. I love designing foals with my very not good knowledge of genetics. I make things up, it's fun!

MY SPLATOON OC!! + My friend's OC that I helped design <3 Kinpa and Tristepin, the lamington crayfish, and the blue dragon sea slug.

I don't have a lot of info to share about them yet, but they're both bisexual, Kinpa with she/her pronouns, and Tristapin with he/they. Kinpa loves music and longs to create songs with a band of her own. She wants to explore the world and along the way find her members. The only thing holding her back is her deep love for Splitsville and its people. Maybe one day she’ll be ready.

I don't have Neo 3 and Kinpa's story fleshed out just yet, but I'm thinking something along the lines of; they're in a class together at school and have had little interactions. After the events of Splatoon 3 hero mode, Kinpa became more interested in Neo 3's life after she noticed her changing due to her new position as Agent 3. Kinpa doesn't find out about this position until they become closer. Neo 3 doesn't bring the matter up in her daily life, and even avoids letting people know of it. It's a protection thing.

I wouldn't really agree that boys are just arm candy in magical girl shows and only there to look cute. Yeah, sure the girls' friendships are the focus, but the boys are usually very much involved in the plot and most shows do explore their feelings about the odd things that happen due to magical shenanigans even if they aren't in the know (It's why ML baffles me even more with how they screwed up Adren's arc when he's the deuteragonist, when all these boys are supporting cast and get well rounded arcs)

I'm not much of a winx fan, but the specialists were very much not arm candy. Did the girls talk about them being cute? Yes, it's what teenage girls do. Did the narrative suggest they were good looking? Yes, but that's standard for most love interests in any genre. But we still got scenes with them talking amongst themselves about how they themselves feel and they got a fair share of badass fight scenes even if they wield no magic. A large amount of episodes actually included the boys and girls working as a team solving a mystery or fighting a villain. The girls might deal the finishing blow but the boys were still integral to the plot.

I hope this doesn't come across as hate, it definitely wasn't my intention. I'm just a bit too passionate about the magical girl genre.

I do think you have a good point with ML having a problem choosing a genre or blending two genres successfully.

For the CCS fans, I will add though that Cardcaptor Sakura had both Tomoyo and Syaoran serve as sources of motivation for Sakura. And both Sakura and Syaoran collecting cards even if Sakura is the only one who could seal them and yet never made you question whether Syaoran was even necessary for the job the way ml does with Chat.

I wasn't trying to say that boys have no part to play in magical girl team shows or that they're always treated as having no lives beyond the girls, that's why I mentioned that the Winx Club boys - aka, the Specialists - have their own (mostly off screen) lives and occasionally show up help the girls:

the boys are usually off doing their own thing and only occasionally show up for a date or to give the girls a ride on their cool bikes or magical spaceship

Even then, this is certainly a simplification of the roles that they play in the story, but I kind of had to simplify their roles down to their base components for the original post's discussion as I was talking in broad strokes of how these stories are written.

In terms of those broad strokes, the Specialists are absolutely only there for shipping fodder. That's why each one is assigned to a girl from the start and why their main role in the narrative is supporting their assigned love interest or causing relationship-based drama for their assigned love interest. If it weren't for shipping, then the Specialists would not exist.

While the Specialists do have fleshed out characters and may even effect the plot, the execution of those elements is designed around the girls. A really obvious example of this is the character Timmy, who has character development as the boy's tech guy. Why is he into technology? Because he's the designated love interest for the fairy of Technology and we have to show why they're a good match. Along similar lines, the boys don't really get plots that are removed from the girls because this is the girl's show. Every episode features one or more of the Winx, but the boys are optional and often don't appear.

This is because, narratively speaking, the boys are just love interests and that brings us back to Miraculous' big problem. You can't have a show where Adrien is written like a Specialist while also being part of the Winx Club and where Alya is written like she's part of the Winx Club while technically being more of a Specialist in terms of power set and actual narrative role.

I'm was thinking back to my memories of various Winx Club plots to find one that really highlighted what I mean here and I remembered that one of the big dramas in season one was the reveal that Bloom's love interest - Sky - was in an arranged marriage and had just never told her. As it turns out, that's a great example of what I'm talking about re Adrien!

Is that plot line technically based around Sky and letting his life effect the plot? Sure, but the fallout of that reveal revolves around Bloom, not Sky. The story doesn't really care how Sky's feeling as the conflict progresses. Instead, it focuses on how it affects Bloom and her friends because of course it does! She's the main character. It would be really weird if that plot suddenly focused on her side character love interest and his friends during one of her darkest hours/biggest moments.

Think of that and then consider how the ending of season five is written. Notice any similarities? Sure, this is Adrien's family drama, but because he's just a Specialist, the focus isn't on him. It's on Winx Club member Marinette and Adrien only shows up at the end for a kiss. That is the problem. That is what I'm talking about when I say that Miraculous will randomly write him as if we're watching a magical girl team show where Adrien is just the love interest.

In fact, let's really dig into this example because it's a good one.

You can have a look at the transcript for the finale episode of Miraculous season five here and see for yourself that Adrien doesn't even show up on screen until the final scenes when the big drama is over. The Winx Club wiki also has episode transcripts, so I took a look to see what happened in Winx land during the arranged marriage reveal plot (I love that this is a thing. It's so useful for fact checking myself!) This is the script for the episode after Bloom learns the truth. Sky does not appear even though his lies and family drama are the fuel for this episode's events, which are a major part of the season's arc. Note how perfectly that matches Adrien's writing?

Similarly, Sky's dialogue in the reveal episode is all about Bloom. He's worried about her learning the truth and thinking less of him. To match that, here's Adrien's only real dialogue in the penultimate episode of season five (full transcript):

Adrien:(Covers his ears.) I cannot transform... (Looks at his ring and tries taking it off.) Plagg: What are you doing?! Adrien: I'm not in my right mind. I'm too angry — at myself for falling short of Marinette's love, at my father for sending me here in London, at this stupid app and these rings that use my image... it makes me sick! This nightmare is giving me the horrible feeling that, if I transform, I'll get akumatized and destroy everything with my Cataclysm — Marinette, Ladybug... (Takes off the ring and hands it to Plagg.)

Switching back to Winx. After Bloom learns the truth about Sky, bad things happen because she's depressed. This results in her and the Winx going off on a journey to learn the truth of who Bloom is. After the girls share this big plot moment and Bloom gets her mojo back, the boys show up to be their ride home and to give Bloom her romance moment where Sky wins her back by declaring that he broke off the arranged married because he loves her.

Sky notably doesn't get an arc about choosing between his arranged marriage and his true love. We don't even know that the marriage is broken off until he tells Bloom because that was never really a conflict as far as the narrative was concerned. Of course he's going to pick Bloom! He's her designated side character love interest! He only exists to be with her. We don't need to treat this as a serious thing for him. The arranged marriage plot was never about him anyway. It was about giving Bloom a reason to have a darkest hour moment that moves the plot forward. Similarly, Sky calling off the marriage is nowhere near as important as him telling Bloom that he's called off the marriage to be with her in a grand romantic gesture.

This perfectly mirrors Miraculous' season five ending where Adrien doesn't appear until after Marinette is done fighting her big girl power fight against his father. As far as the writing is concerned, that fight isn't about him. His connection to the villain only really matters in terms of how it affects Marinette's actions during the final battle. Then, when the battle is over, Adrien shows up to give Marinette her big romance moment because, while the plot may be driven by Adrien's family, he is not a Winx club member. He's just a Specialist. Or, in the words of the head writer:

Oh, and also that I didn't take this as an attack. I just thought it was a good opportunity to really dig into the nuances of this and what I was talking about in that original post as I never know how obvious this stuff is if you don't closely study story telling. As this case study hopefully shows, if a show is about a group of girl friends using the power of friendship, then their love interests may have important roles, but the boys are never going to be more important than the girls and most of the boy's screen time will be focused on romance and how their existence effects the girls because it's ultimately the girls' world. Without them, the show wouldn't exist. Without the boys? Well, then we just wouldn't have a romance plot.

Next is Eden. If anyone notice, I originally designed him based of 2 Abnos: Der Freischutz and Big Bird. Der Frei was, of course, a nod to his title as a Hunter, and a marksman as well. For Big Bird... Yeah definitely there's the Big Bird in DoL, yet I think temperance-wise, Eden does felt similar to Big Bird. A creature living in a forest, thinking they protect others by doing the action that definitely doesn't seems to be out of protection. As for RRH, oh think about this: Being hunted down while getting marked. One by a hunter, and another by a wolf. Oh isn't it just reminds me of something...? Right

Funny enough, before I designed the school LIs properly, I reimagined them as The City's feathers. "If they're living in the City and has to work with one Wing, which one they'll work on?" I've talked about R. Corp Whitney earlier so I'll talk about the others! Robin, L Corp. - I can imagine him with the pressing needs to survive under the weight of Bailey's rent ends up either being sent or signed himself up as an agent for L Corp. The Wing doesn't ask that much requirement as per Hokmah's story while the agent supposed to have a great pay (being a wing and all). Hence, I think he might work for L Corp. Sydney, K Corp. - The idea was that after graduating, Sydney might follow Sirris path in science. Being the obedient child she is (as we sees on the game before they get corrupted), she probably choose to do what Sirris might do hence her as K Corp. researcher. Oh anyway, truly this is just a fyi that doesn't seems to be related to anything, I reimagined Harper as Dongrang in this scenario, with the whole Teary-Thing problem exist. Oh, lucky enough for Sydney to help producing K Ampule that definitely just as seen in the canon Limbus story. Just saying. Kylar, W Corp. - This one actually a rather fun idea. This is set with the idea that Kylar work as the Clean Up Member, with parents that's definitely unaware with how their child work but nevertheless proud with him. They'd even use WARP Train solely to be sent off by Kylar each time, much to Kylar silent dismay. If only they know what Kylar has to clean up among the 6 seconds they went into the train... Read one of the reblog tag and yeah. It has to do with Love Town. And pretty much how Kylar had to regularly assemble his parents again and again each trip they made.

LCB! SYDNEY LET'S GOOOO!!!! This idea came as I made my LCB-esque ID Card for Sydney. The idea of LCB Sydney's background was that it's pretty much what happened in the game, but make it The City-esque and seen from Sydney's eyes. It's fun imagining her as a Dieci Fixer who was caught in a complicated issue which she rather dip out from as she hasn't fully grow the backbone to face it yet. Oh right, in this AU I reimagined Ivory as Abnormality and both Sydney and Kylar got their EGO. Sydney got their Longing Phase EGO (HE, Gloom) while Kylar got the Haunting Phase EGO (WAW, Wrath). I actually had a draft of how the EGO works and its gimmick but let's talk it later on lol

When Yield My Flesh event is up on Limbus, my head doing the funny by thinking, "Damn... Jun Wren sounds cool..." then I remember Tingtang exist like jfgdjfgbjd HE FITS BETTER AS TINGTANG WHY DIDN'T I THINK ABOUT IT ON A SIDE NOTE, I also had the thought on how Bailey MIGHT kills it as either a Kurokumo or a Middle. After all, Middle never forget... Just like how Bailey never forget your rent LOL

And last but not least: Sydney and Robin as L Corp. Agent! Robin will be a high Temperance agent which work for Safety Team, while Sydney is the high Fortitude, high Prudence Disciplinary Team Captain. Oh, if you do notice: I made Sydney's cross looks like Penitence EGO Weapon. It's actually based of this idea of how One Sin and WhiteNight's dynamic thematically fits Sydney the Faithful and Sydney the Fallen. The name of both Abnos' EGO Set-- "Penitence" and "Paradise Lost" respectively, both fits the image of each Sydneys. Hence, I draw them in both EGO Sets!

We've decided to go back and rewrite the script for UTBB's demo, not only that but the overall story has gone under some major rewrites including a new direction for the game and its meta narrative. You see, we’ve decided to take a more fantasy RPG like approach with Magic now being one of the core aspects of UTBB. We’re also introducing a lot more new magic based mechanics & interactions (We even switched up the UI a bit but that’s for a letter date haha).

For our metta narrative . . . Let’s just say, Reed has played Omori, In Stars & Time, Oneshot, & Slay The Princess. And remember one thing, Valor will not be a silent protagonist. You have been warned.

We've also decided to do something different with the way we execute our Cyan soul sub plot. Before cyan was going to be a full fleshed out character however there was some difficulty making it fit into the story even with the rewrites. So, we've decided to make it so we will focus on the consequence of their death/capture instead their possible actions meaning that the cyan soul will be up for interpretation (Not in the way UTY)!.

In summary: Any cyan take (That follows Omega Flowey order) can alien with UTBB's timeline now without any confections! (There’s no UTY Axis situation here lol).

And we would like to give a special shout out to the amazing @/Radiaction & Knightyume for being awesome Writing Consultants!

Also, a little bunny told me that UTBB & UTR might be doing something special together real soon so be in the look out for that 👀

Minor Change -

We've updated something about Valor. . . They're now are Genderfluid and use He/Him/She/Her/They/Them pronouns! But most characters in game will use They/Them pronouns.

[Sprite Art]

Not much, sadly, for the first half of the month our main tileset artist haven't been able to make anything due to personal IRL issues. Everything seems to be cleared up now and with the new addition of some amazing spriters joining the project (That being @/_pancakez & Tweetertweers, we're back on track and making progress.

[Characters]

Sadly, we can't show much in this department yet, but the crew has been working on designs for the main, support, & random encounters cast of characters!

We've also taken the time to redesign a character already revealed. that being - ???? (Oop, looks like he still doesn't want his name to be revealed, maybe you see it soon?)

We want to at least get battle sprites made before showing off any random encounters, sorry for the wait!

[OST Situation]

For those who don't know, we used to have a few OSTs posted on out YouTube channel, however we got into some complications with the now former team member who drew the artwork that was featured in said videos. We are happy to say that new artwork for the videos are being made as we speak!

Once it's done, we will be working towards putting the OST videos back up + the addition of a few new OSTs.

[Twitter Situation]

Due to Twitter's new policies we decided that we will no longer be posting any artwork on the platform. We have also made the decision to switch over to BlueSky since it seems to be the more healthier alternative to Twitter. We will still have the account up and running and post links to out dev post, however if things get worse then we might just ARCHIVE UTBB's twitter account, cut ties with the platform, and no longer post on it.
