If you asked I'd oblige, I would die in your arms

If you asked, I'd oblige, I would drown in your wake I've heard heaven itself was not mine to obtain But they lied, oh, they lied 'cause I've seen it in your face

"The feeling that she had never really lived in this world caught her by surprise. It was a fact. She had never lived. Even as a child, as far back as she could remember, she had done nothing but endure. She had believed in her own inherent goodness, her humanity, and lived accordingly, never causing anyone harm. Her devotion to doing things the right way had been unflagging, all her successes had depended on it, and she would have gone on like that indefinitely. She didn't understand why, but faced with those decaying buildings and straggling grasses, she was nothing but a child who had never lived."

The Vegetarian by Han Kang🔪🌱
TW: suicide, eating disorder, rape
What a way to end 2020. It's one my favourite reads. Definitely recommend it @langeasyofficial

🌱Q: What was your favourite read of 2020 you would recommend to others?
This book reached the depths of my soul, helped me to stare down my greatest fears, and look at the darkness I keep inside me.
I felt it reaching down my throat and bringing everything to the surface. Every inch of my body was aching and then I felt peace.
I identified a lot with Han Kang 's character, In-Hye. She faces the absurdity of human life, trying desperately to not let go of the thread that "keeps her connected with everyday life", not follow Yeong-Hye's path. One of my favourite passages follows:
" The feeling that she had never really lived in this world caught her by surprise. It was a fact. She had never lived. Even as a child, as far back as she could remember, she had done nothing but endure. She had believed in her own inherent goodness, her humanity, and lived accordingly, never causing anyone harm. She didn't understand why, but faced with those decaying buildings and straggling grasses, she was nothing but a child who had never lived"
