SHADOW FILBO RETURNS!!!

HOOOLY hell this piece took FOREVER to do. but im happy its done, because i can focus on other stuff now! (aaand take a break after working on it today for...idk how many hours straight, i spaced out.) i kinda made it not fun to work on while i recorded the first quarter to be a speedpaint, but then i stopped doing so and i began having fun with this again, experimenting a bunch in some places! this was a really fun piece to draw, especially the lightning!!

even if i'm not actively posting bugsnax, it still means a lot to me and it brought me to who i am now on tumblr. it's always a delight to raw my boy shadow filbo, no matter what.

BTW the things some of my friends have said abt this piece means so much to me it makes me so giddy and happy and proud, thank you so much ,, <3 ily /p

what would shadow filbo sound like. for no particular reason. at all. would he just sound like regular feebo or would his voice be a little different

He would either have a growlier, trying-too-hard-to-be-edgy-and-dangerous-sounding Filbo voice, or probably just my voice because I think that's funny (but it does not fit at all - but it fits the vibe of an oc some kid made. and i have a higher pitched voice)

A joke I also make with my friends is that his voice claim is Red Velvet Cookie from CRK, so do with that whatever ya want

Floofty trying to be nice

The setting sun shone beautifully on the boiling bay sand. Shipwrecks in the shallow waters casted shadows on the shore as they walked along the beach. Paw prints and holes left from their peg leg tracked behind them.

They felt the side of the shipwreck that they called their temporary shelter as they entered. Floofty stood at their desk and lit a match. They picked up a lantern and lit the small candle inside.

Their paws landed on their small notebook that sat in the corner of the desk. Opening to a new page, They pulled out the pen that sat clamped to its spine and began to write.

Day 132 on snacktooth island

My plans of replacing my head with a bugsnax have been thwarted by my younger brother. With his actions I have come to the conclusion that perhaps I must put myself first rather than my studies.

in time it appears that I may have also been too harsh to the grumpuses around me. Though I may have a higher knowledge than most, that does not excuse my behavior towards them. And thus, in a product of my own arrogance I now put myself in unnecessary danger for my own studies

Now While I’m on this island I will take the time to socialize and understand others in a way that will benefit them and maybe even my self. Even though it possibly won’t progress my studies as the world's first Gastroentomologist, it may create positive relationships and perhaps future colleagues.

And with that they slipped the pen back onto its spine and closed their notebook. It sat in their lap as they looked out to sea and watched the sun set. As they did, thoughts swirled in their mind of what to do next to make up their past actions

Soon all that was left was the sun’s gentle glow as it had long disappeared beyond the horizon. Floofty stood over their desk and placed the book in the corner of it and blew out the lantern. Their long arms reached the back of their head and undid their goggles. They neatly laid them on the desk and laid in their cot.

Soon the sun rose again. It’s rays shown through the rotting wood of the shipwreck. Floofty sat up in bed with a groan. Another night of poor sleep, though the sound of the waves brushing against the shore would put them back to sleep every time they woke

When they turned their head to look out into the sea something had caught their eye. A bluish blob sat in the entrance of the wreck. With Their poor eyesight they couldn’t make out what it was.

Only after getting their googles on were they able to see what it was. It was a small flower with delicate blue petals, It’s light green leaves had small red spots.

A small lone flower that looked pathetic.

In a mater of seconds Floofty had their notebook in their paws

Day 133 on snacktooth island

This marks the first day of understanding others. In order to truly understand others I must be the very least acquaintanced with them. One of the best ways of doing such is to give them an item.

After closing their notebook they got to work on the flower.

Beaker in hand Floofty had made their way back to snaxburg. Their eyes laid on the bright blue grumpuses hut, And with a firm knock at the door it opened. Filbo stared Floofty in their eyes and as they did, a nervous smile grew on his face

“Oh! Good morning Floofty! I didn’t know you were back in town.”

“I am not, I’m still residing in boiling bay.”

Filbo cocked his head a little “oh… so why are you back? You're not here to ask if I want to be a part of one of your experiments are you?”

“No. I’m here to widen my understanding of grumpuses.”

“What does that mean?”

Floofty extended the beaker in front of them, showing the small blue flower that was carefully planted inside to Filbo.

“This flower had grown next to my shipWreck. It’s patheticness and appearance reminded me of you. It also smells nice, so you can Have it.”

Filbo took it from their paws with an awkward smile “Thank you Floofty… I think?”

Floofty nodded “I recommend plenty of direct sunlight and light watering. I hope this makes us acquaintances Mr. Fiddlepie.” And with that they turned on their heel and walked away.

Filbo looked down at the flower in his paws And sat on his bed with it. He felt its delicate petals and leaves with his digits.

“A gift from Floofty… I never thought they’d give me a gift!” he whispered to himself

The beaker clanked as he put it next to his window with a smile “besides the pathetic part, it does kinda look like me!”

no but genuinely. i love shadow filbo dearly. he means a lot to me.

he marks a time for me where i began embracing what i like just... for the sake of it!

he embodies the things that inspired me to draw online in the first place. hell, sparklecat characters with bangs have made me stop cutting my hair. i haven't cut my hair properly since. just because i wanted the same bangs, not knowing how hair works. now i have what is best described as messy fluttershy hair. to many people just how long my hair is, is what defines me when they see me and my hair is in a way special to me.

and again - he was what inspired me to draw. in class i'd be drawing my own sparklecats at the age of like 8, with bangs and wings and little companions that sit on clouds that rain hearts. (and bolts and skulls when ANGRY!)

i put rainbows on everything. i thought nyan cat was the embodiment of everything good in the world. i listened to nightcore versions of songs only. i say, as i am listening to nightcore, right now.

because of all these old classic animation memes and sparklefurs and silly scene and emo song flash animations i'd find... i'd pick up ms paint and draw. i imagined just how i'd animate, finding even the simplest methods absolutely mesmerising. there is something to be said about me being this young with internet access - because it very much so had it's negative effects. not me watching fetish videos at the age of 8 just because it had pokemon in it. yea that did not have any lasting effects.

but despite all this shit - it raised me! and even just a few years later... like.. 2015 when i began posting online on deviantart for the first time, not being just a lurker... learning how The Computer works better - not only drawing on paper anymore and gaining more and more interest towards digital art... i was already nostalgic towards these earlier days. but still living IN it, y'know?

just having fun, doing my own thing! isn't that what art is all about?

well. then the cringe culture nation attacked. severe bullying at school. and in general, just shame - which i am still fighting in certain aspects. but it's a bit more complicated than just "shame". (more so fear of Things.)

i'd look back at things with either genuine "cringe" or a distaste. how DARE these people have fun? because deep down, i was simply jealous.

if i was going to reference anything old like this, like classic animation memes, it was framed as "JOKE" "NOT SERIOUS" because i feared i would be harassed, made fun of, or people would thing THAT is the best of my artistic abilities. but... it's not like that.

and now, more and more people are embracing this. and it makes me so happy. and shadow filbo helped me fight off these fears a lot and just let me love what i love and be myself.

maybe it's not an ""aesthetic"" that completely defines me, maybe it IS a tik tok trend to do nowadays - but i don't care. without any of this i wouldn't be here. those were my first inspirations. silly colorful cats animated to crunchy mp3s of songs using movie maker and 3 (three!) frames drawn in ms paint. it had so much charm. it had so much genuinity. and i could feel it even back then.

without it i might've not been here as i am now. there are so many things that go into this, of course. but i simply would not be the exact way i am. and i dunno. that's something to think about.

thank you so much, shadow filbo. one "mistake" with you i've had was thinking i should be a good creator of something and respond to every fan and fanart, which only stressed me out. i have... opinions! about being recognized in various places and, as some dub, a "NICHE INTERNET MICROCELEBRITY" (nothing against you fox </3).... yeah! not a fan.

another mistake was dubbing him as a "joke" always. and... he is! he is humorous! i am a jokey person! i like crunchy shitposts! i like being the reason people laugh! i will go to certain levels to even ridicule myself just for the bit, and i don't mind it. i'm hyper(active) and i am just a jokey person, that's that. but... him being called a joke was honestly just a shield from people taking him too seriously.

if people were to mock me for being nostalgic for nightcore, and rainbows, and edgy amvs, sparkledogs, scene culture and clothes, rave songs... all this!

but... no! people loved it! people loved it so much, it moved THEM to create art!

me, referencing things that made ME inspired to draw all those years ago - then inspired OTHERS to draw other things. to embrace themselves. to have fun. to connect.

it means so much to me. it's a bit odd to comprehend, too.

but it means the world to me. sorry if i am ever annoying about shadow filbo, and is often the first thing i bring up when bugsnax is brought up - but he is the highlight of my experience with bugsnax.

thank you so much, shadow filbo. and me and my wretched little claws, of course. for making them. and those that inspired me. those old friends i lost along the way, too. and those, that inspired those that inspired me. and so forth.

Bugsnax Drabbles: Buddy/Filbo & Beffica - You Scared?

Summary: Buddy had invited Filbo and Beffica to go ghost hunting with them.

[A/N] Special Halloween drabble, yay!

Why had Filbo agreed to this? He was in the running to be mayor, there’s was lots to do for his campaign. Or he could be at home knitting while watching TV. Even just lying around being unproductive might be more appealing than this.

Yeah, it had sounded fun at the time he’d agreed to it. Walk around an abandoned hospital with Buddy looking for ghosts, why not? He liked spending time with them and after Snaxburg, ghosts shouldn’t be scary. But standing in front and facing the building put the idea into a different context.

Run down and visibly weathered, the windows were missing, leaving black voids where they’d once been. They felt like eyes staring back at him, pinning him to the spot. The sun starting to dip down towards the horizon behind it made its shadow look almost like it was reaching out towards him, ready to grasp at his ankles and yank him into its maw.

“Are we sure this is a good idea?” he asked, not taking his eyes off the building. Holding its gaze lest it make a move as soon as he glanced away.

“Define ‘good idea’,” Buddy replied from somewhere behind him.

“Like it’s not dangerous?”

“Why? You scared?” Beffica had come too. Three grumps was apparently the ideal number for a ghost hunt. Two to roam around the building trying to get the ghosts’ attention. And another to watch from base camp and keep an eye on all the cameras set up around the place.

“Yes, actually. I’m a little scared, okay? What if this is another bugsnax situation and the ghosts just seem harmless at first but are actually planning to possess us or something, huh?”

“If they can,” Buddy replied, “it’s difficult for them to do or a very rare talent. I’ve been in contact with plenty of ghosts before and come out mostly fine.”

“Mostly?” Beffica asked. She still didn’t sound scared but maybe she was at least a little bit.

“Got a few scraps here and there. But anyway, let’s go set up the cameras while there’s still daylight to do it with.” Buddy patted Filbo on the shoulder as they went past, leading the way towards the building.

With a sigh, Filbo finally tore his gaze off the building’s face and followed. Beffica fell into step with him. “If you’d like, I’ll trade spots with you. You can watch from base camp instead where it’ll be safer, probably anyway, who knows how far out the ghosts go.”

“Uh… I appreciate the offer. It’s very kind of you. But I think I’ll be okay.” He’d agreed to be Buddy’s ghost hunting partner, he intended to at least try to follow through.

“Can’t pass up the opportunity for some alone time with Buddy, huh?”

“It’s hardly alone time. They’ll be using their camera the whole time which you’ll be watching. Besides we live together and are literally dating, alone time isn’t exactly hard to come by. Also, uh… if it gets to scary I might um, change my mind and take you up on that offer. Assuming that uh, you’re still okay with it by then anyway.”

“If I wanted to be mean, I’d say it’s only a one time offer. But I’m nice now, we’re cool. So sure, if it gets too scary, we’ll trade. Also, next ghost hunt, I’m gonna insist we do trade because I wanna see the ghosts in person too. Assuming they’re real anyway.”

“Sounds like a plan.” And apparently Filbo was already down to go on another ghost hunt with these two. That was fine though. Ghosts were scary but he could handle them. After Snaxburg, he could handle basically anything.
