CYRUS- “Listen...officer....(looks at the cops badge)  Dawes is it?””

SGT. DAWES - “It’s Sergeant Dawes. And I’m listening.”

CYRUS- “Sorry, SGT. Dawes. We were not aware that this was private property as my friend Morgan here explained, and for your information, my family property line runs adjacent to Mr. Shiplets, and I do believe were are on my family’s side of the pond. So I think maybe you could ask Mr. Shiplet to take a look at his deed before he makes accusations and calls the police on anyone.”

SGT. DAWES- “And I presume your family is Boedell?”

CYRUS- “Yes...I am Cyrus Boedell, and my father Ezil Nevarez Boedell is on city counsel, and my father Abraham Boedell has owned this property for years.”

SGT. DAWES- “Well, nice to meet you Mr. Boedell, but maybe you should discuss adult matters such as this with your fathers before YOU make false statements.  Four years ago, YOUR father Abraham Boedell, whom I know very well by the way,  sold his portion of the property surrounding the entire pond, to Mr. Shiplet.  So I hate to inform you that you are indeed on private property.  So how about we just go to the station and call your father to come and pick you up, and he can explain how adult matters work.”

MORGAN- “I’m sorry, SGT. Dawes...we really were under the impression that we were not doing anything wrong.  We didn’t know Mr. Boedell sold this to Mr. Shiplet. We fish here all the time.”

SGT.DAWES- “Yes, Mr. Shiplet has made me aware of that, and has also told me that he has came out here on his own several times and asked you politely to leave, and you ignore him, or become delinquents and curse at him and throw rocks at him.   Plus my younger sister graduates today from Boedell Academy, Which you are making me miss, due to you thinking you can just do whatever you want...And I know for a fact the graduation started about five minutes ago.  So that means that you are both truant as well.  Anything else you need me to LISTEN to Mr. Boedell?”

CYRUS- “No, I guess not.”

SGT. DAWES- “Just as I thought, so let’s just clear this up once and for all. How about we go over to my car and take a little ride, boys.”

RUBY- “Morgan Ebeneezer Asher!!  What on earth have you done now that has caused the police to get involved!!?’

MORGAN- “None of this was my fault mom, this cop had to be an ass and just bring us in here for no reason. Cyrus and I were just minding our own business and fishing.”

RUBY- “I told you to stay away from that Boedell boy, he is NOTHING but trouble Morgan!!  I swear when your dad gets back into town---

ABRAHAM- “See Cyrus!?  Everyone in this town knows that you are trouble!!  I think you need to apologize to Sgt. Dawes, and to Mrs. Asher, and before we go home, we are stopping by Mr. Shiplet’s so you can apologize to him as well for causing all this unnecessary chaos today.”

CYRUS- “Can we just go now?”

ABRAHAM- “I said you need to apologize...first to Sgt. Dawes...

CYRUS- “Sorry Sargent. It won’t happen again.  Now can we just go?”

ABRAHAM- “To Mrs. Asher???”

CYRUS- “all I know is that Steve was giving us drugs, well pot to sell. He started jacking up the price and wanted us to move into other stuff and Morgan told him no.  He got pissed and told us either we do what he says or he would turn us both in.  That’s when I decided to go to Steve’s boss, which was Mercer.”

SGT. DAWES- “Joe,  Joe Mercer, correct?”

CYRUS- “Yes, we met with him, and he offered us another job as well as taking Steve’s place selling the drugs to the clients at the schools.”

SGT. DAWES- “What was the other job he offered you?”

CYRUS- “He said we would be money runners.  We would meet potential buyers of his stolen goods and we would pay them according to what Mercer said it was worth and then we would bring the purchased goods back to his contact and we would catalog them.”

SGT. DAWES- “And he would pay you a percentage, what was that?”

CYRUS- “Three percent.”

SGT. DAWES- “Would you be willing to testify about all of this?”

CYRUS- “Yes.”

SGT.DAWES- “Cyrus, we don’t think that Mercer had anything to do with Steve Jolley’s attacks on you and Morgan at the farmhouse, but he was using all of you to make himself richer. Kids, just kids doing his dirty work.”

CYRUS- “Steve was upset because he thought we pushed him out, but it was Mercer that wanted him out. He said that Steve was stealing from him.”

SGT. DAWES- “I will talk to my boss, and we will explain to the grand jury that you are willing to testify on the state’s behalf. Steve will be going to jail for a very long time, and Mercer will be gone even longer.”

ABRAHAM- “What about Cyrus, what will he be charged with?”

SGT. DAWES- “There were no drugs found on him or Morgan’s possession, nor any money. So we have nothing that we can officially arrest them on, other than trespassing on the abandoned property. But that is non essential to our case. As long as he agrees to testify against Steve and Mercer, AND straighten his act up and not get into any more trouble. I say he will be fine.”

CYRUS- “Trust me, Sir...I have learnt my lesson. This is a nightmare, and I never thought anything would happen like this.  I just hope my dad’s can forgive me...and Mrs. Asher.”

ABRAHAM- “Cyrus, we will support you and be here for you, but I am going to be honest son, you are going to have to regain our trust.”

EZIL- “Things HAVE to change son.”

CYRUS- “They will....I swear.  I am a live thanks to my best friend. I need to make it right by him.”

CYRUS- “Uh...hey Dad...”

ABRAHAM- “Do not talk to me right now Cyrus, you stand there and be quiet. I am going to talk to Sgt. Dawes....

SGT.DAWES- “Hello, Abraham, sorry about this. I asked them to leave Mr. Shiplet’s property, and your son here had to act all high and mighty and argue with me, so I figured you probably didn’t know he was skipping school, so I called you.”

ABRAHAM- “None of that surprises me Phil, I do apologize. And yes, he and Morgan apparently left out of the gym doors before first class was even completed. I appreciate you bringing him down here and calling me.  Even though I WAS attending the graduation ceremony with Cyrus’s brothers.  One of which was giving the Valedictorian address...that I am now missing....”

CYRUS- “Dad...I didn’t know----

ABRAHAM- “I THINK I told you to be quiet CYRUS....So Phil, do i need to sign any paperwork or anything?”

SGT. DAWES- “No, he is free to go into your custody.  I am sure you can handle this yourself.”

Just as they were getting ready to leave, Mrs. Asher arrived to get Morgan.

CYRUS- “Damn it, that one fish keeps biting and I can’t hook it fast enough.  It got away again.”

MORGAN- “Hey, I wanted to talk about last night, Cy...”

CYRUS- “No worries man, it’s all good.”

MORGAN- “No seriously, I don’t want you to think I am like all into you and want to be a boyfriend or anything.  I was just really high, and the thought of me---

CYRUS- “It’s all cool Morgan. What’s a little fooling around between friends, and hell until we get new girlfriends, I may need you to do it again.”

MORGAN- “Uh...next time, it’s going to be you taking care of me, dude!”

As they continue to chat and fish, they didn’t notice someone coming up on them...

COP- “Excuse me boys...I got a call from Mr. Shiplet that you two are on his property, fishing in his pond without prior authorization.  This is private property.  You can not be here without Mr. Shiplet allowing you to be here.  And if I am not mistaken, Isn’t school still in session today?”

MORGAN- “Last day, school let out after graduation. And we didn’t know this was private property.”

COP- “Well you do now, so I am asking you on behalf of Mr. Shiplet to remove yourselves from the property...”

CYRUS- “I got this, Morgan.”

MORGAN- “It’s okay, Cyrus, let’s just go.”

Dr. MARTIN- “Ms. Asher, I am Dr. Martin, Chief of Surgery here...I am very sorry, but we were not able to save Morgan. We couldn’t stop the bleeding and too much damage was done.  We are so sorry, we did all we could.”

RUBY- “You mean--- my baby---Oh my, you mean he is dead!??”

DR. MARTIN- “Yes, mam, there was just too much damage of main arteries and blood loss. 

RUBY- “What am I going to tell his father!!? He is in Japan for work...Oh dear Lord..”

Ruby was overtaken and passed out, Sgt. Dawes was able to catch her before she hit the floor.

DR. MARTIN- “Nurse, I will stay here with Ms. Asher. You can take Sgt. Dawes to check on the Boedell boy.”

ABRAHAM- “Is there word on Cyrus, Nurse?”

NURSE- “Yes, he is in recovery and everything is fine, I can take you back in a while, but Sgt. we need you in the trauma waiting room, with Mrs. Asher.”

SGT. DAWES- “I was afraid of this... I will be back guys.  Wait here and I will go with you to see Cyrus, as if he is able, I have some questions for him.”

EZIL- “Of course.”

SGT.DAWES- “Abraham...Ezil, thank you for getting here so quickly. I hate to tell you this but I have some bad news....

ABRAHAM- “I Cyrus hurt?  Is that why he is here instead of the police station?”

SGT. DAWES- “Yes, unfortunately, he is in surgery as we speak, come over and sit down and I can explain, at least what I know thus far.

Sgt. Dawes explained to them what transpired at the abandoned house on Compton Rd., and that the suspect had been apprehended, but there is more to the story, according to the young girl and called 911.

EZIL- “So a bullet is lodged in his arm?”

SGT. DAWES- “Yes, apparently Morgan Asher jumped in front of Cyrus to shield him from the gun shot, and he was critically injured.  He is also in emergency surgery.  However, the second shot was done as Cyrus was falling onto the ground after Morgan hit him and knocked him down, and it lodged into his arm.”

ABRAHAM- “Do you know why this happened, what was the reasoning for the shooting, as if anyone really needs a reason.”

SGT. DAWES- “I am going to be honest with both of you, but it was a drug deal gone bad. Morgan and your son were selling marijuana or were involved in setting up a sale and the suspect came in on them, and shot them.  According to the eyewitness, Morgan and Cyrus had taken over his territory.”

EZIL- “How do fifteen year olds get involved in this???  I don’t understand even why Cyrus would think this was a good idea.”

SGT. DAWES- “From what we are finding out, the suspect worked for Joseph Mercer. W have police at his place now, and he is being brought in for questioning as well.  He apparently hired your son and the Asher boys to run the operation in the high school.

EZIL- “JOE MERCER, the councilman??”

SGT. DAWES- “The one and the same, yes.”

SGT. DAWES - “Is there an update on Ms. Asher’s son?”

RUBY- “Please I want to see my boy!!”

NURSE- “I am sorry, I have nothing at the moment. I can call into surgery and see if one of the attending doctors can come out and talk to you.”

RUBY- “Oh...yes!! Please... I need to know something.”

NURSE- “Sure Ms. Asher, I will call over immediately.  Also, Sgt. the Boedell boys fathers are at the nurses station.”

SGT. DAWES- “Thank you nurse.”

RUBY- “I don’t understand...why would someone want to shoot Morgan!!??”

SGT. DAWES- “We are not sure of anything yet, Ms. Asher. But an eyewitness said that the assailant was aiming for Cyrus Boedell and your son jumped in front of him. From what we know so far, there were two shots fired, and both boys were shot.”

RUBY-  “I still don’t understand...Morgan is only fifteen years old, and the Boedell boy is about the same age, who would want to shoot two kids!!?”

SGT. DAWES- - “Again, we are not sure, but my Sgt. has the assailant in custody. Of course he has lawyered up, but the eyewitness has identified him as the gunman.”

RUBY-  “Who is he?”

SGT. DAWES- - “I can’t release the name yet, but he was an older guy, about 25 or so.”

RUBY- “And the witness?”

SGT. DAWES- - “She is a minor, and again I can not release her name, but she is also a student at Boedell Academy. So probably a friend of the boys.”

RUBY-  “How much longer is Morgan going to be in surgery!!???

SGT. DAWES- -  “Let me get the nurse, maybe she knows something.”
