18 year-old Private George Kennedy (1943)
At the height of World War II in 1943, George Kennedy enlisted in the Army while still in high school. Originally he wanted to be a pilot in the Air Corps, but at 6'4" he overshot the pilot height limit of 6'2". He was eventually assigned to the Infantry and was sent to fight in Europe. He served under General George Patton in the 99th Infantry Division's Cannon Company, 395th Infantry Regiment, and saw action in North Africa, Anzio, and the Battle of the Bulge.
After the war, George was assigned to the Army Signal Corps as a Public Communications Officer where his baritone voice landed him on the air as a radio host and DJ on the Armed Forces Radio Network. Eventually he helped establish the Army Information Office under General William Westmoreland at the Pentagon, which provided technical services to the film and television industries. It was in this capacity that George served as Army technical advisor on The Phil Silvers Show (Sgt. Bilko) and set his future career in motion.
George served 16 years in the Army before heading to Hollywood. Before retiring at the rank of Captain, he earned 2 Bronze Stars for valor and four rows of service medals, including the Presidential Unit Citation, the American Campaign medal, the Europe/African/Middle Eastern Campaign medal, the World War II Victory medal, the Army Occupation medal, and the National Defense Service medal.

Terry Carter (born John Everett DeCoste; December 16, 1928 – April 23, 2024) Actor and filmmaker, known for his roles as Sgt. Joe Broadhurst on the TV series McCloud and as Colonel Tigh on the original Battlestar Galactica.
Carter acted in numerous television series, specials, and theatrical films. Carter was a regular cast member of The Phil Silvers Show (popularly known as Sergeant Bilko), appearing as Pvt. Sugie Sugarman in 91 episodes between 1955 and '59. Carter played boxer Rosie Palmer in a 1964 episode of the ABC drama Breaking Point. In 1965 he was the only black actor to have a role in the World War II drama Combat! in the season three episode "The Long Wait". He is best known internationally for his co-starring role as Colonel Tigh in the popular science-fiction TV series Battlestar Galactica. He was originally cast as Lieutenant Boomer, but was cut following a roller skating accident that fractured his ankle. After replacing Carter with Herb Jefferson, Jr., producer Glen A. Larson instead offered Terry Carter the role of Colonel Tigh, second in command of the ragtag fleet of starships, giving the series the distinction for the time of having more than one regular African-American character in the principal cast. Carter also starred as Dennis Weaver's partner, Sergeant Joe Broadhurst in the detective series McCloud for seven years.
In 1975, Carter started a small Los Angeles corporation, Meta/4 Productions, Inc. for which he produced and directed industrial and educational presentations on film and videotape for the federal government. Carter was president of Council for Positive Images, Inc., a non-profit organization he formed in 1979, dedicated to enhancing intercultural and interethnic understanding through audiovisual communication. Under the council's auspices, Carter produced and directed award-winning dramatic and documentary programs for presentation on PBS and distribution worldwide. (Wikipedia)

Postcards from Snagglepuss
And you thought George Jetson was the master of video calling all this time
Mise en scene: a mid- to late-October morning dominated by rainy skies and the seasonal Pumpkin Spice Life evident in the addition of pumpkin spice flavouring in the coffee. Obviously, it's the retreat of Crazy Claws, and I assume you know about it from past acquaintenance in this space, dear and genteel readers. And for some reason on the iPad's video phone component--
"HELLOOOOO, BOYS--!" It was no less than Top Cat (or, as we informally call him, TC) calling from his new alley digs somewhere near the storied Hollywood and Vine intersection in Hollywood.
"And boy, are we surprised to catch you at this hour!" Huckleberry Hound was quick to remark. Added I, "And who wouldn't? Especially with plans in the offing to winter down Southern California way!"
"Which I happen to appreciate!" saith TC in his glib Sgt. Ernie Bilko stylee, prompting Huck to respond that the plans tenatively included time at the Hair Bears' Secret Surf and Dive Spot outside Malibu, some diving with the Catalina Diving Clowder off Catalina Island, and some time with Peter Potamus' dive crew at their winter quarters outside La Jolla, itself a quaint little diving town with a drinking problem, to borrow the T-shirt trope there.
"So I understand you're planning to spend some time on Catalina with our diving girlfriends!" was how TC responded. "Whether it's likely that our paths will cross on that Magic Isle, it's hard to tell how that turns out in the end!"
At any rate, Huckleberry introduced two of our ursine compadres this go-round with Crazy Claws, as in "Meet none other than the sweetest she-bears around ... Emmy Lou and Jenny Lee!" At which point no less than Fancy-Fancy, the Lothario of TC's own clowder, was just swooning over them with his swagger, replete with hopes that he might want to have some "quality time" with the two once they're down Hollywood way, prompting Emmy Lou to remark "Well, that's all fine and well, uh--"
"Fancy-Fancy, ma'am--and your name's Emmy Lou?"
"How right you are!" added she in that cane sugar-sweet Southern affectation of hers. "And this happens to be my cousin, Jenny Lee!"
"Hello there, Fancy-Fancy!" wss how Jenny Lee introduced herself. "And don't let my girlish charm fool you on any account!"
Top Cat therewith returned to the video call: "Rather impressive there, my gal, and clever as well! At any rate, folks, our clowder would certainly welcome your crew over in Hollywood and maybe Santa Monica, and, with some luck, on Catalina!"
"Even if, I have to acknowledge, it's roughly 9 here in Wisconsin," Crazy Claws chimed in, "making it about 7 down your way!" To which TC remarked "How astute; I thought I'd surprise you all out your way, even with the Pumpkin Spice Life being dominant in the coffee house culture!"
"How else can it be?" chimed in yours truly....
