Dandadan OC: Ingrid Cold

Ingrid Cold is the original name and human form of the Hat Man. Therefore, he serves as the primary antagonist of the Hat Man Arc.

Appearance

Cold appeared as a stocky middle-aged man with large, broad lips, and a square chin framed by prominent jowls. He maintained this appearance from the 1950s to the 1990s. He favored black three pieced suits with a fedora hat even well after that look fell out of style.

When calling on Subject N's abilities, he appeared taller and thinner with shadowy tentacles coming out of his back.

Personality

Cold was an exceptionally loyal and patriotic agent for an unnamed government agency (often referred to as "alphabet soup"). He believed very strongly in America as the greatest nation on Earth and was willing to go to any lengths to protect it and its secrets. This included all sorts of atrocities like murder, torture, kidnapping, brainwashing, and more. These acts weighed heavily on his conscience, but he never questioned their necessity, "sacrificing [his] soul for [his] country." He only showed reluctance when asked to target women or children, though it didn't actually stop him.

What little we see of his personal life outside work paints a picture of crushing loneliness. He lived in a white picket fence American suburban two family home all by himself, with no furniture outside the public areas and numerous half-empty alcohol bottles.

After merging with Subject N, he showed a more sadistic side of his personality, which only seemed to cause him more emotional distress.

Background

Cold was born in the early part of the 20th century. After the war, he joined the "alphabet soup" agencies to protect American interests. He served as an exemplary agent for decades. While he was not part of Project Serpo himself, he did liaison with Serpoans on multiple occasions.

In the 60s, some secret of his was unveiled to his superiors, likely by the Serpoans who sensed something amiss about him. As this secret would theoretically open him up to blackmail by Communist agents, Agent Cold was offered a chance to prove his loyalty by taking part in a new project, Project Black Book. The goal of the project was to create a clandestine super soldier who could act in America's interests, especially when it came to protecting their new allies from "Wraiths" (as they called Yokai and other Spirits) and covering up US involvement with extraterrestrials.

Project Black Book used occult materials in the government's possession, in conjunction with Serpoan technology, to summon and bind an extradimensional entity into Agent Cold's body. This entity, dubbed Subject N, was from a spiritually powerful but intellectually devoid species called the Mythos, who could effectively combat Wraiths and other supernatural threats.

Over time, however, the stress proved too much for Agent Cold. Although he did not show any outward signs, Subject N gradually consumed his life-energy. By the 80s, Cold was dying, and by the early 90s he was actually dead, his body completely consumed by Subject N yet his soul trapped within it. His wraith became a plaything of the extradimensional horror, quickly warping into the creature now known as the Hat Man. It was still bound to follow certain rules, but even those rules became twisted over time until it was deliberately exposing its existence to people just so it could justify its continued existence by tormenting them.

Powers & Abilities

This is just discussing his abilities as a human. As a Human/Mythos hybrid, his abilities were likely similar but less extreme than his abilities as a Wraith/Mythos hybrid.

Natural Abilities

Physical Prowess

Enhanced Durability: Even before being merged with Subject N, Agent Cold was exceptionally durable, as he's shown continuing to operate despite multiple bullet wounds.

Mental Prowess

Iron Will: During his interrogation by his superiors, he is noted as exceptionally strong willed, which made him a good candidate for Project Black Book

Skills

Government Agent Training: As a government agent, he is skilled in clandestine operations, interrogation, firearms, and hand to hand.

Supernatural Abilities

Mythos Hybrid: After merging with Subject N, he possessed many of The Hat Man's abilities such as limited shapeshifting, teleportation, combat tendrils, and enhanced physical attributes. He was also able to see and harm spirits. The extent of these abilities aren't shown, but are significantly lesser than his abilities postmortem.

Notes

It's never specified what secret the Serpoans uncovered, but there are significant hints that Cold might have been a trans man:

He mentions not being drafted for WWII, when the vast majority of able-bodied men were drafted.

He says that when things got started, there wasn't much role in "alphabet soup" for people like him outside of "secretaries and honeypots."

The Serpoans mention his "banana organs" are "very unusual"

The possibility of subversion and blackmail of LGBT federal agents by communists was a regular argument in favor of the Lavender Menace.

It would serve as a thematic parallel to Jackie Kumamoto, who has been confirmed as a trans woman.

📓 - I would like to, one day, write a fic of the events leading up to Keldor's coup in the Core/CGI series. We got the "I, Skeletor" novel, but that's about Keldor and Randor in their early teens. Randor is not king yet and their parents are still alive. I want to write a fic taking place when Adam is six, Randor is King, and Keldor is laying plans for his coup.

📚 - I also wanna one day write a really ambitious fic that utilizes the prophesy from the Classics-Line comics. In the Classic-Line there's a prophesy that when the Three Towers are restored, the "great kings" of Eternia will return to the living. But in the comics, the only kings that return are Randor and Miro and, I'm sorry, but those dudes ain't that great. If you're gonna put in a prophesy about "the great kings" then use the great ones! King Grayskull for example! Have the prophesy bring back King Grayskull! Like, come on! The gimmick is right there! Also, the prophesy does not specify the great kings having a "good" alignment, so in my version of the prophesy, King Hiss would also come back. He was a "great" king of Eternia. Full roster of "great kings":

📒 - I wanna do a cute ship fic for Skeleteen that makes excessive use of the trope "Identity Porn". Identity Porn is when one character has 2 identities (think Superman and Clark Kent) and the rest of the characters they interact with think they're 2 separate people. I've dipped my toes in this idea already. But with an OC that I kinda high-key hated. Next time I wanna try it with a canon character. (Probably Ram Man II, I don't know why, he's just the one I picked out and stuck with.) The premise is, Skeleteen is unrecognizable as Skeleteen without his helmet. Ram Man II would happen upon Malkyn when he's doing some innocuous thing while not wearing his helmet and they would become friends with Ram Man II having a huge crush on Malkyn. When Malkyn shows up to their meetings with bruises or bandages, he assumed someone's been mistreating him and Malkyn needs to be rescued. He has no idea that the injuries come from their own battles together. One day Malkyn shows up riding Skeleteen's gryphon and Ram Man II assumed Malkyn might be Skeleteen's beast trainer, that would mean that Skeleteen's been the one beating him and Ram Man vows to defeat Skeleteen and free Malkyn once and for all.

This is a new oc for dandadan based in this Man. He is a serpo with his data corrupted, he got lost and ended alone in Spain (he has a really bad Sense of Direction) He works in a mercadona, loves anime (more exactly magical girls anime) and loves Spanish dub (he thinks is silly and fascinating). Normal people see him as an old man or a Man in his 50s but people with powers see his real face and think he is creppy (but he is a really nice guy). Also he loves clapping because yes :D 👏👏👏 and his name is Juan (he choose the first name he heard when got lost and corrupted)

Then lived on earth during years and there saw that being a girl (or female as she says because is a serpoian jsjsj) fit her better. Also she is friends with rokuro and my other serpo oc and she has a girlfriend of the same species of vamola. Her name is Banme.

I did a serponian oc jsjs

Lil guy that is Defective and is much shorter than the rest of the clones so he gets abandoned in the earth with rokuro. So he starts living with rokuro as his son or Lil brother and because his voice is similar to the rest of serponians, momo told him to not speak or talk to any human. So he needed to learn Sign Language for having a tool to comunícate. The family (momo and her squad) call him Lil serpo but he calls himself Nijūsan (or Niju by some people) serpo. He has other human disguise when is finally living with rokuro done by the family and he looks like a chibi kid.

My serpo oc with his actual apperance. He wanted it to be really similar to his old one and also similar to the face rokuro has. So aira made this costume for him and between all tried to make a new Mask.
