Cult of the Bones / Kult Kości - my master's thesis. (This is only a small part of the project!)
Each skull was sculpted manually (no slip casting etc) and decorated with various materials + decalcomania. The one at the bottom was partially hand-painted :) These skulls are only a portion of the project, other things include jewelry, posters, serigraphs and other sculptures.
You can find more pics here: https://www.artstation.com/nikar

also a lot of the salon hangs people choose to do with framed posters and prints are nottttt giving… I’m pro salon hang in the right context with the right curated selection of wall mounted objects but I don’t ever need to see a framed band poster on top of a family crest serigraph on top of fake deer antlers on top of a fake bronze rococo sconce or whatever 🤢🤢🤢

Interfaith Canticle of Praise with Creation (art by JA Swanson)
John August Swanson is one of my favorite artists, who specializes in the artform of serigraphs. I was delighted to meet him a few years before his death in 2021.
"His art reflected his strong heritage of storytelling, inherited from his Mexican mother and Swedish father. Swanson’s narratives are direct and easily understood. He addressed human values, cultural roots, and the quest for self-discovery through visual images. These include Bible stories and celebrations, circuses, concerts, and operas. He optimistically embraced life and spiritual transformation." https://johnaugustswanson.com/about-the-artist/
Here's a fascinating poster he created in 2015 with wisdom from 3 different Abrahamic faiths. Details are below the image.
Tumblr media
+++
Description from the webpage for the poster:
A Prayer Before Nature, by Rabbi Nachman of Breslov, is hand-drawn in the style of David Jones at the top of this poster.
Beneath this prayer are a series of small paintings depicting six of the Canticles of St. Francis of Assisi. Swanson repainted these images from the images bordering his 2002 serigraph, FRANCIS AND THE WOLF.
Centered beneath these images is text drawn from a Turkish Muslim woman’s description of her daily prayers (called Salat).
Swanson brought these elements together to underscore the similarities and universality of the message.

All art and information is from this webpage, where you can buy the poster for only $15. https://johnaugustswanson.com/catalog/canticle-poster/

Serigraphs Artwork at Laasyart – Handcrafted Screen Prints
WHAT IS A SERIGRAPH?: INVESTING IN FINE ART PRINTS BY THE MASTERS
Although the art of serigraphy has been around for 100 years (and other methods of printmaking far longer than that), fine art prints have become one of the most rapidly growing sectors of the art market in the past decade. Even recently, here at Laasya Art we have noticed tremendous interest among clients to own a signed print by the Modernist Masters like M.F. Husain and S.H. Raza, whose original paintings are otherwise unaffordable for many.
Tumblr media
What is a serigraph?
Tumblr media
How do you print a serigraph?
Producing serigraphs is a meticulous, completely manual process. Using the original artwork as the master guide, a different stencil is created for each color that will compose the image. Then, the ink is pushed through the corresponding stencil onto the paper and then laid flat on a drying rack. This step is repeated multiple times, using a separate stencil for each color. A single serigraphic print can have as many as 25 colors or more.
Recently, we visited a printmaking studio and took this step-by-step video to illustrate this process. Each color uses a different stencil and is separately applied to the paper, which is then laid on a drying rack in between applications. A single serigraph can have as many as 25 colors or more.
Why do artists work with serigraphs?
Often, serigraphs are produced by senior artists whose paintings reach the top end of the market, like M.F. Husain, S.H. Raza and Thota Vaikuntam. These artists’ original works may be out of reach for most collectors, but with serigraphs, one can get very high quality prints of these artists with their original signatures at affordable price points.
Sometimes, serigraphs are also made by living artists who have achieved a certain level of success, popularity and recognition like Senaka Senanayake, Seema Kohli, Atul Dodiya, Manu and Madhvi Parekh and Paresh Maity.
What is an example of a serigraph?
Tumblr media
What makes a print more valuable?
The value of a serigraph is determined by the artist’s notability, the edition size and the presence of a signature. A serigraph’s most important feature is the artist’s signature, which confirms its authenticity as a genuine artwork. Without a signature, a serigraph may as well be a poster.
Another contributing feature is a print’s finite availability. Limited edition sizes range from under 100 up to 1200, but on average, serigraphs are printed in runs of 100 to 125. Each individual print is numbered in the form of a fraction, such as “1/100,” meaning that the print is number 1 within an edition of 100. Typically, prints of fewer editions are higher in value.
Are fine art prints a good investment?
Tumblr media
What is an artist proof, and how does it relate to the printed edition?
Tumblr media
After the limited edition is sold out, can more images be printed?
No, additional prints cannot be made, and no reputable printmaking studio will do so. This also means that, once an artist passes away, no more prints can be approved or signed — there is a very limited number of serigraphs by Husain and Raza that will ever be available, just like their paintings.
How can I identify fake serigraphs?
Tumblr media
Do I need to frame serigraphs?
Yes, absolutely! Works on paper must always be framed to properly protect them from warping and discoloration. Read our framing guide to better understand your options, from ornate metal to minimal wood.
I hope this creates a better understanding of serigraphs! We welcome you to browse our collection of serigraphs by M.F. Husain, S.H. Raza and Thota Vaikuntam. If you would like to inquire on available works or have any additional questions, please get in touch at +1 650-770-9088 or [email protected].

Each Time I Think of [My Refugee Children] (poster)
A poster created in 2019 by John August Swanson, one of my favorite artists.
Tumblr media
Translation of the text at the bottom:  I do not know when I can see my children again. Each minute that I am separated from my children is anguish.
Handwritten text by a Guatemalan mother of three, MGU v. Nielsen, et al., 6/21/2018
+++
Title: Each Time I Think of You
Notes from Swanson:
The image for this poster comes from a painting I made in 1986, called Each Time I Think of You. I revisited the artwork, enhancing and developing it for my 2010 serigraph, MADONNA OF THE HARVEST.
For the text above the image, I selected the passage from Leviticus 19:34, “The immigrant who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen among you; you shall love the immigrant as yourself, for you were immigrants in the land of Egypt.”
Below the image, I used text hand-written by a mother from Guatemala who was separated from her children when they entered the United States. In her lawsuit, she is only identified by her initials, M.G.U., but I thought her testimony was so powerful, I wanted to share what she wrote. The English translation of her words is: “I do not know when I will see my children again. Each minute that I am separated from my children is anguish.” https://johnaugustswanson.com/catalog/each-time-i-think-of-you/
