I’m not very good at identifying flies...
The closest ID I could find, is that this fly may be apart of the Senostoma genus (perhaps Senostoma longipes, or Senostoma punctipenne).

This would land on the sandy paths in Rocky Cape National Park. I like the hint of blue in its sandy shades.

#436 - Dexiine Tachinid
Dexia rustica - photo by Rui Andrade
25 years ago or so, I was visiting Canberra and went up Black Mountain to the Telecom Tower there (my father worked for the company, and besides, it has an excellent view out over the city). I was more interested in the large, very long-legged flies that were perching head-down on the Ghost Gums in the gardens.
After I managed to catch one (it was not easy) they turned out to be Tachinids, of the subfamily Dexiinae. The one in the photo above is a Dexia, but mine were most likely Senostoma, a genus well known for spending its time on the top of mountains, in eucalypt forest. They parasitise beetle larvae - sometimes the grub even survives.
