isnt Senjogahara attracted to Araragi in a very gender neutral way?
yeah i think she would have fallen in love with Koyomi regardless of gender, or really, anyone who was able to do what Koyomi did— that being, help her with her problems selflessly, while still leaving it up to her to truly settle things, as that's the only way she could truly deal with her own problems
hell, we know for a fact that Koyomi isn't Hitagi's type, since she admits that she prefers older men, so i don't think a girl is that much further astray than he already is

Bakemonogatari: Monster Tale Part 01 by NisiOisiN [JPN 2006 ; ENG 2016]
Fantasy | 237 pages
There’s a girl at their school who is always ill. She routinely arrives late, leaves early, or doesn’t show up at all, and skips gym as a matter of course. She’s pretty, and the boys take to whispering that she’s a cloistered princess. As the self-described worst loser in her class soon finds out, they just don’t know what a monster she is.
So begins a tale of mysterious maladies that are supernatural in origin yet deeply revealing of the human psyche, a set of case files as given to unexpected feeling as it is to irreverent humor. So begins the legendary novel that kicked off the MONOGATARI series, whose anime adaptations have enjoyed international popularity and critical acclaim.
This first of three parts introduces Senjogahara and Hachikuji, and fans of the blockbuster prequel KIZUMONOGATARI will be delighted to meet their favorite crazies again: the weirdly reliable narrator Araragi, class president among class presidents Hanekawa, shady problem-solver Oshino, and a certain pale, blonde former vampire.
My rating: 4/5

I am (re)reading Mayoi Snail. It occurs to me now that Senjogahara watched Araragi try to talk to an elementary schooler she couldn't see - twice. Then, upon his third attempt, she watched him fight, win, and loudly boast about his victory against a child.
And she still chose him anyway. Love wins (?).
God, that entire sequence kills me EVERY time I see it. Honestly one if the funniest bits in Bake. Koyomi being so caught up in the moment and so full of adrenaline that he's just FEELING it when he gets done beating up that elementary schooler, laughing like a cartoon villain. Completely and utterly soggy human being.
And yeah Hitagi REALLY went along super hard with something that literally anyone else would have seen as raw insanity. But in a way, it just ends up showing to her how insanely compassionate of a person Koyomi is, and also leads to their promise to just be open and honest with each other from then on.
Mayoi Snail is such a fun little arc all around and one of my favorites to revisit. Episode 3, taking place entirely in the park and Just being Hitagi and Koyomi talking, is one of my top favorites in the series so far.

If other characters than Araragi had helped Senjogahara overcome the crab how many of them do you think she would have fallen for and how many of them do you think would reciprocate?
i've been rotating this question in my head trying to make heads or tails of it. if i overthink it, as i am wont to do, the question doesn't make sense. Araragi was in the right place at the right time, and had the resources and willpower to help her. the specifics of these aren't just unique to Araragi, but are fundamentally where the Araragi is stored. to be able to help Senjougahara is, in some sense, to be Araragi.
but then i read it again and realize that this is a shipping question with strange framing. i'm not super into shipping, but answering questions is fun, so why not answer it anyway.
Hanekawa: it's implied that they have feelings for each other anyway, so i'm pretty sure that her helping her with the crab thing would only magnify them. her sense of persistence in her selflessness matches Araragi's well too.
Black Hanekawa: likely would not view the crab as a problem, and thus would not help her.
Kanbaru: been there done that.
Shinobu: would probably succeed, but the two would walk away not thinking very highly of each other.
Ougi: i don't want to imagine what would happen if those two met at the beginning of the series. blood would be shed.
Karen: would try to find the crab and beat it up, and would fail to do so, probably pestering Senjougahara along the way. wouldn't work.
Ononoki: would simply fix the problem and dash off, leaving no room for feelings to form in the first place.
Kaiki: holy shit can you imagine ?
Hachikuji, Tsukihi, Sengoku: unable and/or unwilling to fix the oddity, but for boring reasons.

the obvious point of speculation from Owarimonogatari is what would have happened if Araragi brought Ougi with him instead of Hanekawa to Sodachi's studio, but how do you think it would have turned out if anyone else took Hanekawa's place? (such as Senjogahara, Kanbaru or Nadeko)
mmm... i think for all of them except maybe kanbaru it would go poorly
i will share my two thoughts on what might happen if you brought ougi first though. i think it would have gone the same as hanekawa for a little bit but then there wouldnt be any deescalation and in fact only escalation from ougi, making the whole thing much worse. probably araragi and sodachi's relationship would not likely have the chance to recover, and ougi would reveal the answer to the mystery sodachi has before sodachi even asked for the two of them to solve it... and i cant see her being able to feel quite so calm if its not just her and koyomi talking about it, and especially if ougi reveals it before sodachi even has the chance to ask and just springs it on her... ougi being the one revealing the mystery makes it much more antagonizing. there's a really really good artwork that shows some of this... i need to find the artist before i post it though curse you reverse image searches for never working
if you brought senjougahara she would not be helpful in the slightest. bringing her for that confrontation would mean she'd be expected to offer comfort to sodachi at a time where she was still kind of pissed at her probably for hurting her boyfriend. and she just would not do that. i can't see sodachi apologizing for it before the mystery is solved so i cant see senjougahara saying anything that isn't a barb, even if its something that would otherwise be helpful. actually this one might be worse than ougi bc she wouldnt even care enough about the mystery to help with it at all either. forget araragi and sodachi rekindling their relationship or having any kind of friendliness between them with her around no way not happening.
nadeko would also not be helpful at all bc shes still uwu nadeko at this point. she'd just be like 'ummm... err........' in the corner and not say anything or just be talking so quietly no one would hear her. and when sodachi attacked araragi she'd just be like 'thats not true! koyomi onii chan is the best and he's super nice...... he wouldnt do anything like that...............' and it would NOT HELP AT ALL LOL
kanbaru could do it. i believe in her. she would NOT be able to solve the mystery but she would definitely be able to help ease tensions and stop things from getting worse. she's very emotionally intelligent and mature and she'd be able to understand what to say and when or if to say it. this is the best one other than hanekawa bc the relationship would be stabilized and even though they wouldnt be able to solve the mystery together ougi would just be coming by to do that anyway. so it would end up mostly the same. good end

It's been a long delay, but here's my attempt at responding to this.
First, Nadeko. I think, given that it's not long since she started her change, she might not yet be in a place to handle someone lashing out and trying hard to push others away. Just getting into Sodachi's apartment might be difficult, though I can imagine either pity or some feelings of acquaintanceship from when Sodachi lived with the Araragis might make Sodachi willing to listen to and humour Nadeko's requests. Maybe. Also, I do think she would've changed enough since Koi to be in a healthier position to deal with this, one that isn't that bad, especially considering where she was. The question is, would the factors that could work out for her be enough to give Koyomi the chance he needs to engage with Oikura and to tell his side of the story, to then talk further with Sodachi, like in canon? I think it's possible.
Alternatively, either her effort at getting Araragi in fails, Sodachi isn't moved to the point where she can be talked to, or she even attacks Nadeko verbally for trying to intervene. Nadeko comes from the experience feeling like she failed. Ougi might chose to worsen the impact as a way to make Araragi feel worse, to punish him because of how his feelings of guilt would make him feel about having Nadeko help him out. This would be something for her to struggle with and try to process, which could potentially involve Sodachi, if she felt guility over hurting an unrelated person to her feud with Araragi.
With Senjougahara, it depends on whether she has something like Hanekawa's encounter with Ougi, something that would make her go "Okay, this is bigger than a girl I don't like having slapped me and me punching her". If she gets very serious about it, I think she'd be able to get Araragi in and to get them talking, maybe even be willing to be emotionally vulnerable with her own family trauma to Oikura, if it'll help solve the problems between her and Araragi. No matter how hard the struggle turns out to be, I think she'll tell Araragi something like that he should be grateful and that he owes his girlfriend for this effort. What'll change is the weight behind it, the degree in which she's teasing verses seriously put out by the experience.
Kanbaru's biggest tool might be her utilising her demeanor and ability to make unique comments to maybe knock Sodachi off balance and give Araragi a shot. Plus, she would be starting off as a neutral stranger as far as Oikura is concerned. That might help, if her respect for Araragi doesn't change that and make Sodachi view her too much with contempt. She's perhaps the safest option out of these three, being less likely to face hostilty and get into a fight than Senjougahara and less likely to have Oikura's hostility get to her.
I don't know if Nadeko or Kanbaru would have any way to get the answer to what happened to Sodachi's mother, including having Ougi help them out specifically. Senjougahara would have a better shot, though her being the one helping Araragi out could result in Oikura not bothering with her request.
There's two more answers I can add, though they're silly ones. Karen could maybe comically make them talk, either by making Sodachi laugh at Araragi's sibling pain or by making her beg him to stop Karen's efforts. Second would be Kaiki being theoretically able, but having to face the barrier of Araragi immediately spinning around and going "Wait, I'm not letting you near my childhood friend, and I also want you to get the fuck out of this area".
Or...
Sodachi: Why the fuck did you bring this middle aged man here?
Araragi: I don't know
Sodachi: Fuck off, old man!
Sodachi attacks Kaiki, inflicting damage to herself
Kaiki: ...I'll just go now.
Araragi: I just remembered that I'd hate to ever let you in a place like this. I'll kick your ass!
Kaiki gives a contemptuously annoyed look at the writer of this bit

If other characters than Araragi had helped Senjogahara overcome the crab how many of them do you think she would have fallen for and how many of them do you think would reciprocate?
well the whole point is that Hitagi saved herelf. Koyomi was merely able to push her along towards coming to terms with her pain and trauma, which is fairly indirect as far as far as help goes. and to that end, the issue is that other characters wouldn't have been able to take such an approach as him. Suruga certainly couldn't, that's her whole point
that said, Tsubasa is similar enough to Koyomi that I think she could stand in for him, and i think Hitagi would end up feeling mostly the same (but maybe less sadistic about it)

You know I’ve seen this question around monogatari tumblr and they’ve given good answers so I’ll give a brief review on my thoughts and probably retroactively go back and link the people who’ve answered this question. However I will then raise different more unhinged character ideas.
Kanbaru: good head on her shoulders, could probably make her feel better even without perfect understanding
Senjougahara: I think they might just attack each other
Nadeko: is kind of creature at this point and while sodachi is fond of her it wouldn’t bring closure or peace bc wtf is she gonna do
Kaiki: could solve the problem in his own kaiki way but could also become another object of hatred
Either fire sister: I think this is well filed under makes her worse
Hachikuji: honestly might not go bad, she’s mature and might be able to give decent advice if she can even see her, but consider the placements of the events in the timeline this could not happen at all
Meme: he probably couldn’t fix this one
ETC specialists: probably can’t do shit + make things worse
Yotsugi: this would just lead to more questions and you know it
Shinobu (any version): now this wouldn’t go well but also this would lead to so many questions that sodachi really doesn’t need rn
And finally what I think could be the most interesting alternate solution is
Araragi’s parents (or maybe just his mom): so hear me out can you like, fucking imagine if araragi brought his known cops who like to do some social work parents to sodachi’s place, how do you think that would go, would sodachi consider it a failure, would she feel bitter tears at araragi finally bringing his parents like she ask and it being too late? How would the parents react to suddenly meaning this child they would’ve cared for having a deeply horrible moment with araragi, they’d see the truth clearly but what then, how would that have gone. Would it be cleared up professionally? Would they have too much stake in the case and not be allowed privilege to do much? I think that this is a really interesting idea because it’s not something araragi would ever normally do but it would do so much that it’s just fun to think about!

Ok, so you've asked others who have given what I feel to be pretty accurate rundowns and I don't think I've got too much to contribute there, so allow me to offer the most ridiculous, out of left field option instead. Kaiki Deishuu - Sodachi would make a gag (and also gag) aimed at Koyomi for bringing an evil looking therapist. He'd complain that he couldn't make much money off of it because she's on welfare. There's no aberration here, so I personally think he'd figure out parallels between a young hitagi trying to.... request his help, and Sodachi teaching Koyomi math. And then he'd step in and solve it.
