September 7th 2023 | Cores for Heroes Submission | M. Ford | 1963 Beetle
I served in the USMC from 05-09. I went through boot camp at MCRD San Diego and School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton CA. I was sent to 7th Marines in 29 palms the end of January and February 14th we left for Iraq. I had to learn everything on the go, baptism by fire. My 1st tour was in a town called Husaybah Iraq, on the boarder of Syria, and the Euphrates river. Was a wild west kind of town. My 2nd tour was in a small town called Kubaysah, just outside of Hit Iraq. My journey took me to Baghdad to testify against two bad guys we caught throwing grenades at our patrols. The best part of that trip was swimming in Sadam Hussain's pool, and i have the picture to prove it! My 3rd and last tour was in Karma and NE Fallujah, sadly having to leave my post early I was sent home due to my Dad's untimely passing. Upon arrival back in the States I also lost my great grandmother within two days of being home, grateful I was able to tell her goodbye, wish I could have had that closure with my Dad. My Dad and Uncle Dave brought me up with a love of cars and Racing. My first car was a 69 bug that I drove while in HS and sold it before I joined the USMC. I regret selling it to this day and no pictures remain of it. My favorite past-time was cruising in my 69 bug all over the Columbia River Gorge corridor and county back roads. After moving from Oregon to Texas I decided it was time to build something. So I found a 1963 that I am currently restoring from the ground up. The theme for this bug will be USMC, going to call it the "Teuful Hunden" bug or as most people know it "Devil Dog". It will be painted red, with gold doors and rims, the Marine Corps colors. This build is really helping me find parts of me I left over seas. It's going to be a long build being a disabled veteran and on a budget. I have been ordering all the new body panels first. Was going to order a pro beam with disk brakes and a Freeway flyer with disk brakes from Air kewld but having a chance to win them is really awesome of you guys. Thanks for the opportunity and your time. M. Ford USMC
M. Ford is entered into our Cores for Heroes Program here - https://www.airkewld.com/Cores-for-Heroes-Program-s/2532.htm
To date, we have 12 submissions to win and we have raised $445 dollars of our $10,000 goal.
In our honest opinion, the US Armed Force members, are so under-appreciated. The PRO's are finally in a place to put a plan together that helps everyone that participates, but more importantly, those who served or serving.
Details will slightly change as we get more context, but here's the idea.
I want to give back to those who have fought for our freedoms, regardless of our political beliefs. I didn't fight for my country but my father did and he is fighting PTSD, mental disorders, agent orange, etc., etc. I get to build products for the greatest clients in the world because of it. So, how do I make something happen?
The PRO's need cores. The AirkewldArmy has cores. Within the AirkewldArmy community, reside members of the US Armed Forces that want/need/could use a boost in their life, whether it is financially or upgrades to their favorite VW.
To give some context on our Core Program, the PRO's need certain parts to make our PRObuilt Line of Classic Volkswagen Drive-Train Components. In the past, the PRO's would print out a prepaid shipping label and rebate an order if our client/s sent that core in and it checked out. Payment would be reimbursed to the client, store credit or trade for something else, would take place. With a unique but small twist, a BIG change can make a humongous difference.
If our current or past clients, the AirkewldArmy, sent their cores in, based on a value proposition, the PRO's would give them the opportunity to win two ways. The first, for every $10 in core value, would be one entry on a quarterly drawing to win Airkewld Swag, like work shirts, tee's, hats, stickers and air fresheners, $100 gift cards to Airkewld.com or even a $500 Visa/Airkewld gift card. The second, for every $10 in core value, once the PRO's accrue $10,000 in cores, the PRO's select a Hero, to receive a Complete Airkewld Drive-Train Package or $10,000.00 (Our CEO would fly to them and personally hand them the check), delivered to their door, FREE of charge. Heroes would enter by telling their story, both about their military experience and passion for their Classic Volkswagen.
Airkewld receives usable cores. The AirkewldArmy wins FREE Stuff. Together, the PRO's and the AirkewldArmy show appreciation to someone who deserves better, our Military Heroes.
Who's ready to make a difference today?

Tell us about yourself.: David Devine is a second-generation Irish-American. Today, the lilt of an Irish brogue touches his heart. A native of San Francisco he was raised across the Golden Gate Bridge in Marin County. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree for Industrial Engineering & Operations Research from the University of California, Berkeley. He worked in Ocean Transportation holding roles in Engineering, Marine Terminal Management, and Sales. He also provided Management Consulting services in Silicon Valley. Having not suffered enough anguish from the corporate world he owned and operated a bicycle store. A prolific technical writer, David began creative writing on a whim with short stories. Having anthology success with Murray, The Disgruntled Reindeer, he would go on to write a novella and a radio play script. Hibernia is his debut novel. He has two daughters. David currently resides near the mist of Niagara Falls with his Grenadian (he swears she sounds Irish) wife. He takes inspiration from Julia Child, Lee Trevino, and W.C. Fields. He is an avid chef. Do not ask for his guacamole recipe. There is none; it’s guacamole. Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?: San Rafael, a suburb across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco. We were a San Francisco-Irish family. There was much dry humor in our households. HIBERNIA was greatly affected by my upbringing. The dry humor continues in my current project. Do you have any unusual writing habits? In addition to writing, I am a caretaker and home owner. I do not have the luxury of setting a writing schedule. Sometimes a paragraph is in my head for hours before it hits the keyboard. What authors have influenced you? San Rafael, a suburb across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco. We were a San Francisco-Irish family. There was much dry humor in our households. HIBERNIA was greatly affected by my upbringing. The dry humor continues in my current project. Do you have any advice for new authors? Join a writing group with more accomplished writers than yourself. It commits you to completing work and a rising tide lifts all ships. What is the best advice you have ever been given? Don't sweat the small stuff ....It's all small stuff. What are you reading now? Recipes, Assembly Instructions, Pill bottles. What's your biggest weakness? As far as writing is concerned, a weakness, and perhaps a strength, is that I have an engineering background. What is your favorite book of all time? Benjamin Franklin, An American Life, so impressed with all the fields he mastered and his influence on the nascent days of the United States. When you're not writing, how do you like to spend your time? I have little free time and have lost vision to the point where I can no longer participate in many of the sporting activities I would have listed 15 years ago. ...I am an avid chef however (to date no digits lost). Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you? I know I read Dr. Seuss (and I read them over and over to my children), but I would have to say the Encyclopedia Brown books. The logic in solving the mystery appealed to the little engineer. What has inspired you and your writing style? I started creative writing after many years of professional/technical writing. I saw it as a challenge. As to style, my writing is quite reflective of my technical bend and dry sense of humor. What are you working on now? UnCOMMONWEALTH, a modern day Casablanca set in Grenada. This tiny nation has a surprising confluence of international interests. What is your favorite method for promoting your work? Still trying to figure that out. What's next for you as a writer? Write, write, write. Sell, sell, sell. ...As long as I can read the screen (and I do zoom it in), I plan to keep writing novels. How well do you work under pressure? Pressure was trying to learn touch typing on a typewriter with unmarked keys at 13 years old. How do you decide what tone to use with a particular piece of writing? The characters set their own tone. If you could share one thing with your fans, what would that be? Pay your way. Smile as you go. Leave construction not destruction. Honey, why are you home from work so early?
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Metro Nashville police say they fired now former officer Sean Herman on Wednesday after video surfaced of him groping a woman’s breasts while in uniform during a fake traffic stop. The video — titled "Can't believe he didn't arrest me" — was originally posted by a woman named Jordin who was sitting in the driver’s seat. A man in the passenger seat is heard telling Jordin that he knew she would be pulled over for how fast she was driving.***
Jordin apparently has an OF business.

Explain "victimless crime" again, please
***This is not just a weekend with Grandma. This is every weekday at 4:15 p.m., when a school bus hugs the foothills of the Appalachian mountains to get Autumn and Owen safely back into the arms of their grandmother, a 56-year-old widow who’s been watching the two teens since “basically at birth.” Their father, Vance explains, is currently “running from the law” after he was caught trying to sell opioids in the parking lot of a doctor’s office. Together, the three of them form one of the tens of thousands of “grandfamilies” rising out of West Virginia’s opioid epidemic. Vance, who became the kids’ legal guardian in 2018, sees her current nuclear unit as a chance to get things right the second time around.*** Up until our country’s postwar heyday, it was common for grandparents to live in the family home. Now, it’s usually a sign there’s something amiss—either the grandparents need to be looked after or the kids need better care. Out of the more than two million kids being raised by their grandparents in the U.S., the majority are living with their family elders due to a parent’s drug abuse.*** The year 2000 is when Kim Tomblin noticed that something was changing about Lincoln County. That year, she’d just opened up her hair salon in West Hamlin, when she heard two teenagers in the waiting area whispering about how to snort pills. “What do you get out of that?” she remembers asking one of the boys when he sat down in her chair for a haircut. “I’m not judging you—I’m just curious.” He smirked and replied, “It’s like drinking a whole case of beer.” That was the first time she ever heard about anyone doing drugs harder than marijuana or liquor, she said. But after that, she kept seeing signs of it everywhere. She once walked into a woman shooting up in the bathroom of a local gas station. And when she went on to manage a convenience store, she says she lost count of how many times she heard about one of her customers overdosing.***

DoJ noticed
Three Florida residents pleaded guilty [14jun24] to conspiring to injure, oppress, threaten or intimidate employees of pregnancy resource centers in the free exercise of the right to provide and seek to provide reproductive health services. The defendants selected reproductive health facilities that provided and counseled abortion alternatives and vandalized those facilities with threatening messages. According to court documents, between May and July 2022, Caleb Freestone, Amber Smith-Stewart and Annarella Rivera engaged in a series of targeted attacks on pro-life pregnancy help centers in Florida. The defendants admitted they participated in the attack in the dark of night and, while wearing masks and dark clothing to obscure their identities, spray painted the facilities with threatening messages, including “If abortions aren’t safe than niether [sic] are you,” “YOUR TIME IS UP!!,” “WE’RE COMING for U” and “We are everywhere.”***

Marine Corps recruiter goes berzerk
ROCKFORD, Mich. — A Marine Corps recruiter accused of breaking into a Rockford area home Saturday morning and stabbing an 11-year-old girl is accused of planning something much more sinister. According to court documents filed in the case, 24-year-old Ricardo Perez Castillo broke into a different Rockford home earlier in the night. *** Just after 3 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, the homeowner called police and said someone was in his daughter's bedroom and the daughter's friend had been cut, a probable cause affidavit details. The man said he had the suspect held at gunpoint until police showed up. When detectives arrived, they found Castillo with a bloody knife next to him. ***

What's DUI related? Driving? Drinking?
LONG ISLAND - Pop star Justin Timberlake was arrested on Long Island, Sag Harbor Village Police have confirmed to FOX 5 NY's Jodi Goldberg. According to Newsday, the charges are "DWI-related." Law enforcement sources tell TMZ that Timberlake ran a stop sign and was swerving before he was pulled over. Timberlake refused a breathalyzer, according to those sources. Timberlake's friends allegedly came over to the police and asked officers to cut the pop star a break, but the officers refused, according to TMZ. TMZ says there is body camera video of the incident, but it's unclear at this point if it will be released.***
Why he didn't call an uber is not reported.

Charges against Dr Haim clarified a little
HOUSTON – A Houston doctor has been indicted for obtaining protected individual health information for patients that were not under his care and without authorization*** The case against Ethan Haim, 34, Dallas, has now been unsealed, and he is set to make his initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Yvonne Y. Ho in Houston at 2 p.m. The four-count indictment alleges Haim obtained personal information including patient names, treatment codes and the attending physician from Texas Children’s Hospital’s (TCH) electronic system without authorization. He allegedly obtained this information under false pretenses and with intent to cause malicious harm to TCH. According to the indictment, Haim was a resident at Baylor College of Medicine and had previous rotations at TCH as part of his residency. In April 2023, Haim allegedly requested to re-activate his login access at TCH to access pediatric patients not under his care. The indictment alleges he obtained unauthorized access to personal information of pediatric patients under false pretenses and later disclosed it to a media contact. If convicted, Haim faces up to 10 years in federal prison and a $250,000 maximum possible fine.***
Why DoJ is prosecuting a whistleblower is not reported. Maybe it's too painfully obvious?
+++
Now they're silencing a nurse whistleblower!
***another story involving the same institution was brewing in the background: medical fraud. According to a new whistleblower, doctors at Texas Children’s Hospital were willing to falsify medical records and break the law to keep practicing “gender-affirming care.” Caught in the wave of ideological fervor, two of the hospital’s prominent physicians, Richard Ogden Roberts and David Paul, cut corners and, according to the whistleblower, committed Medicaid fraud to secure funds for the hospital’s child sex-change program. (Texas Children’s Hospital, Roberts, and Paul did not respond to a request for comment.) This is a story of fanaticism, hubris, and the murky business of transgender medicine. It would have remained hidden, except for the courage of two people inside the hospital, a surgeon named Eithan Haim and a nurse who has now decided to come forward. Both have risked much to alert the public to the barbarism that is occurring at the nation’s largest, and arguably most prestigious, children’s hospital. Some years ago, Vanessa Sivadge thought she had it made, having just accepted a position as a registered nurse at Texas Children’s Hospital. She had wanted to be a nurse since high school and felt a sense of joy in helping children.***
two months after I spoke with her for that story, Sivadge called me in a panic. The FBI had sent two special agents, Paul Nixon and David McBride, to her home. The agents knocked on the door, asked her about “some of the things that have been going on at [her] work lately,” and then asked to enter her home. She was terrified. (The FBI declined to comment.) The agents told Sivadge that she was a “person of interest” in an investigation targeting the whistleblower who had exposed the child sex-change program. They told her that the whistleblower had broken federal privacy laws. “They threatened me,” Sivadge said. “They promised they would make life difficult for me if I was trying to protect the leaker. They said I was ‘not safe’ at work and claimed that someone at my workplace had given my name to the FBI.” The authorities—the FBI, the hospital, and, as Sivadge would later discover, federal prosecutors—were all circling the story. Both the Department of Justice and the hospital leadership were ideologically committed to “transgender medicine.” They had been embarrassed by the investigation that had exposed their actions, and they were looking for revenge.***
Then Sivadge noticed discrepancies in the paperwork. After the FBI visit, she followed some of the medical charts for these patients and came to believe that doctors might be violating the law.*** For Sivadge, there was no doubt about what was happening. “The largest children’s hospital in the country is illegally billing Medicaid for transgender procedures,” she said. “It is evident that the hospital continues to believe it is above the law not just by concealing the existence of their transgender medicine program from the public, but by stealing from the federal government.”***
Washington Examiner notes
***This is part of a jarring pattern of behavior with this administration in which the law is deliberately stretched and distorted to justify the egregious prosecution of its political opponents. Again, it does not matter to this Justice Department whether its charges actually hold up. Far more important in this strategy is the pain of the lawfare itself. *** Haim deserves vindication as well — but it’s going to cost him. Indeed, the point of the DOJ’s prosecution is to make resistance so costly that people will be deterred from acting out against the administration’s agenda in the first place. Haim sees right through this strategy and is determined to fight the DOJ’s case to whatever end. Without courage like his, the DOJ’s plan would likely succeed unabated. But perhaps because of that courage, more people will see this administration for what it is — corrupt — and for what it wants to be — totalitarian.

Good article about elitism and democracy
consider the findings of a Rasmussen poll from last September, which sought to distinguish the attitudes of the Ivy Leaguers from ordinary Americans. The poll defined the former as “those having a postgraduate degree, a household income of more than $150,000 annually, living in a zip code with more than 10,000 people per square mile,” and having attended “Ivy League schools or other elite private schools, including Northwestern, Duke, Stanford, and the University of Chicago.” Asked if they would favor “rationing of gas, meat, and electricity” to fight climate change, 89 percent of Ivy Leaguers said yes, as against 28 percent of regular people. Asked if they would personally pay $500 more in taxes and higher costs to fight climate change, 75 percent of the Ivy Leaguers said yes, versus 25 percent of everyone else. “Teachers should decide what students are taught, as opposed to parents” was a statement with which 71 percent of the Ivy Leaguers agreed, nearly double the share of average citizens. “Does the U.S. provide too much individual freedom?” More than half of Ivy Leaguers said yes; just 15 percent of ordinary mortals did. The elite were roughly twice as fond as everyone else of members of Congress, journalists, union leaders, and lawyers. Perhaps unsurprisingly, 88 percent of the Ivy Leaguers said their personal finances were improving, as opposed to one in five of the general population. ***

Cali, you have a crime problem
A Secret Service agent was robbed at gunpoint in Los Angeles on the same night President Biden visited the city for a fundraiser over the weekend, police said. The Tustin Police Department said in a statement released Monday that officers responded to a call of a possible robbery shortly after 9:30 p.m. Saturday at a residential community in Orange County, and that the Secret Service agent’s bag was stolen at gunpoint. Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement that the employee was “returning from a work assignment” when the robbery took place. “The employee discharged their service weapon during the incident but unknown if the assailants were struck,” Guglielmi said, adding that the agent was not injured.***
I would hope that Secret Service agents were sufficiently trained and skilled that when they discharge firearms, the perps suffer chest wounds. Is mere competence too much to expect?

Club Q shooter sentenced
Anderson Lee Aldrich, 24, formerly of Colorado Springs, Colorado, was sentenced to 55 concurrent life sentences to run consecutive to 190 years in prison after pleading guilty to 74 hate crimes and firearms charges related to the Nov. 19, 2022, mass shooting at Club Q, an LGBTQIA+ establishment in Colorado Springs. According to the plea agreement, Aldrich admitted to murdering five people, injuring 19, and attempting to murder 26 more in a willful, deliberate, malicious, and premediated attack at Club Q. According to the plea, Aldrich entered Club Q armed with a loaded, privately manufactured assault weapon and began firing. Aldrich continued firing until subdued by patrons of the Club. As part of the plea, Aldrich admitted that this attack was in part motivated because of the actual or perceived sexual orientation and gender identity of any person.*** https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/former-colorado-resident-sentenced-life-prison-federal-hate-crimes-and-firearm-offenses
Oddly, Mx. Aldrich was nonbinary himself.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The alleged shooter facing possible hate crime charges in the fatal shooting of five people at a Colorado Springs gay nightclub is nonbinary, the suspect’s defense team says in court filings. In several standard motions filed on behalf of Anderson Lee Aldrich on Tuesday, public defenders refer to the suspect as “Mx. Aldrich,” noting in footnotes that Aldrich, 22, is nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns. ***

Zoiks! Double homicide in Utah.
During his surrender to law enforcement, it was discovered that the two individuals murdered by Bailey were actually his own parents, Gail and Joseph Bailey. Bailey reportedly told police that he “hated” his parents and expressed no remorse for killing them saying he “would do it again.” Additionally, it was discovered that after killing his parents, Bailey also attempted to kill his brother by firing a shot through his brother’s bedroom door. Though Bailey said his brother was not the main target, he also admitted that he would not have been upset if he was killed.*** https://www.libsoftiktok.com/p/trans-murder-manhunt

Making Your Military Move: Neighborhoods Near Military Stations!
The DMV area is home to several major military bases – Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines – with many on-base housing options. However, for those families who choose to live off-base, there are loads of alternatives. Here’s a brief overview of some of the areas that surround Andrews Airforce Base, Fort Belvoir, and Fort Meade.
And when it is time to relocate, CENTURY 21 Redwood Realty has more than 150 military-certified relocation agents who can help you buy, sell or rent. Not only will these professionals guide you through the entire process, they know how to help you get the most financial gain from your move.
Joint Base Andrews spans over 4,000 acres in Prince George’s County, Md., and has an on-base residential property population of approximately 2,600 people.
Greater Upper Marlboro
Located in Prince George’s County, Greater Upper Marlboro (the county seat) has a population of around 20,000 people, but the census divides the area into several smaller designated places. The median home value is $376,400.
This area is a mix of urban and rural. The town itself is small and quaint. Family entertainment includes:
Watkins Regional Park with an authentic, hand-carved and restored turn-of-the-century carousel, miniature train ride, putt-putt golf, a playground, and camping;
Six Flags America (nearby), a theme park with more than 100 rides, games, shows, and attractions;
Montpelier Farms, a working farm featuring activities, festivals, and a farm market.
Clinton
With a population of 38,760 at the time of the 2020 census, Clinton is home to the Surratt House Museum, a Maryland-National Capital Park, and Planning Commission facility. Built in 1852 as a middle-class farmhouse, its interesting ties to John Wilkes Booth make it doubly worth a tour.
Oxon Hill
Named for a colonial 18th-century manor home overlooking the Potomac River, Oxon Hill had a population of 18,791 at the time of the 2020 census. The original manor house burned down, but a large neo-Georgian-style home was built in its place in 1929 and is owned by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission and is used for special events.
Oxon Hill is also the location of the National Harbor development, a large mixed-use community with residential units, hotel rooms, retail space, upscale dining, and entertainment. The MGM National Harbor Resort Casino is located at the entrance of this development.
Oxon Hill’s family fun includes the Oxon Cove Farm educational facility and the Henson Creek hiker-biker trail.
Other attractions in nearby Fort Washington include:
Rosecroft Raceway (“the Raceway by the Beltway”) which offers harness horse racing;
The Henson Creek Golf Course;
The Tucker Road Athletic Complex with swimming and ice skating.
Fort Belvoir is located in Fairfax County, Va., halfway between Washington, D.C., and Richmond, Va., making it ideal for tourists who are interested in history as it is close to national parks, museums, monuments, and more. For those who work at Fort Belvoir but choose to live off base, Burke, Lorton, and Alexandria are popular choices.
Burke and Lorton, Va.
The 2020 census lists Lorton as having a population of 19,844. The median home value at that time was $463,767.
Burke’s 2020 census shows a population of 42,806. The median home value in Burke is $537,032.
The Lorton VRE station is served by the VRE Fredericksburg Line which runs between the city of Fredericksburg to the south and Washington’s Union Station to the north.
The Lorton Amtrack station is the northern terminal for Amtrak’s Auto Train which runs between this station and the Sanford station in Sanford, Florida.
Special attractions include the 218-acre Burke Lake and Lorton’s Workhouse Arts Center (a former prison!) which provides 300 performances, 12 gallery spaces, hundreds of classes, and several large-scale community events.
Alexandria
According to the 2020 census, Alexandria’s population was 160,146 — the sixth largest city in Virginia. The median home value at that time was $545,000.
Historic Alexandria is perfect for those who appreciate the arts, culture, outdoor activities, and entertainment.
Nearby George Washington’s Mount Vernon is the most visited historic home in the U.S., but there are also so many other historic sites here, as well as an abundance of restaurants, wineries, breweries, entertainment, and cultural events.
Located between Washington and Baltimore, Fort Meade is located in Anne Arundel County, Md. Surrounding neighborhoods include the communities of Odenton, Laurel, and Columbia.
Odenton
According to the 2020 census, Odenton’s population was 42,947. The median home value at that time was $337,700.
Odenton’s school system is ranked above average, and Bowie State University and Anne Arundel Community College are both nearby. Odenton offers natural entertainment in the form of parks. The Patuxent Research Refuge is nearby and offers fishing, wildlife observation, hiking, and biking.
Because Odenton is located just 19 miles from Baltimore and 15 miles from Annapolis, there’s also great proximity to historic sites, diverse dining venues and entertainment, but Odenton also has four main shopping centers as well as an ice rink, golf center, go-kart raceway, athletic club, and more. The Odenton MARC station makes this a great place for commuters to live.
Laurel
Located in northern Prince George’s County, Laurel’s population was reported as 42,947 in 2020 and the median home value was $337,700.
The City of Laurel’s Department of Parks and Recreation maintains more than 200 acres of parkland (19 park sites) which includes playgrounds, pavilions, athletic fields, trails, tennis courts, pools, basketball courts, and more.
A couple of unique highlights located in Laurel include:
The Maryland Jockey Club, known for world-class Thoroughbred horse racing.
Dinosaur Park, a fenced area where visitors can join paleontologists in searching for early Cretaceous (145 to 66 million years ago) fossils.
Columbia
At the time of the 2020 census, Columbia’s population was 104,681. The median home price was $385,900.
Located in Howard County, this planned community opened in 1967 and consists of 10 self-contained villages that were designed to enhance its residents’ quality of life in terms of human values (attempting to eliminate racial, religious and class segregation), rather than economics, and engineering.
Lakes Kittamaqundi and Centennial offer boating and fishing. The Rocky Gorge Reservoir offers hiking, horseback riding, and fishing.
The public schools are rated highly, and Columbia consistently earns a spot in Money Magazine’s “Best Places to Live in the U.S.” list, ranking first place in 2016.
If you’re in the military and it’s time to move, it’s important to find an agent who not only knows the neighborhoods around each military station, but according to CENTURY 21 Redwood Realty’s Director of Relocation Services, Tina Bodolosky, it’s also advantageous to work with a real estate professional who is trained specifically to help members of the military.
The Military Relocation Professional (MRP) certification program educates REALTORS® about working with service members and their families as well as veterans to find housing solutions that best suit their needs. They can also help you take full advantage of available benefits and support.
One such benefit, says Tina: “We offer cash back programs of up to $8,000 when you buy or sell a home through our Navy Federal Realty Plus or Military Rewards programs and utilize one of our background checked and military relocation certified agents.”

Window Cleaning Do’s and Don’ts for Homeowners
Whether you’re trying to sell your home, having guests over for a party, or you simply want to enjoy your view, having clean windows will make your entire home sparkle. Your windows are a focal point, in and outside of your home, and clean windows give your whole house a visual boost. The opposite is true, too: If your windows have a layer or dirt or grime, it can make the whole place seem less clean than it is. Here’s a couple of do’s and don’ts for maintaining your home’s windows.Don’t Forget the InteriorMaybe you have a maid service or housekeeper, or you think you’ll just do the insides yourself and only have professional window cleaners take care of the outside. It might seem more practical or cost effective, but it’s usually not. Only professional window cleaners have the tools to really do the job well. Your housecleaning service might leave streaks, and if you mean to do the windows yourself but somehow don’t get around to it… well, you’re going to have clean windows on the outside, but if the interior’s dusty and dirty, the windows just won’t look clean. Freedom Window Cleaning crews are professionally certified, licensed, bonded, and insured. You can trust us to work inside your home — and we’ll make sure to keep your home clean, too. Do Clean the Windows LastIf you’re having any other services done around your home — anything from landscaping to power washing to painting — it’s best to save the windows for last. Why? You’d be amazed at the dirt and dust that can be stirred up by even minor maintenance, and when it lands on your windows, there goes that cleaning. It’s also important to know that if you’re having any construction or remodeling work done on your home, drywall mud, paint, or even abrasive chemicals can easily make their way onto your windows. Ask your contractors to tape and cover your windows to avert as much of this as possible. Schedule professional window cleaning last, so that your clean windows can be the finishing touch. Don’t Rely on Mother NatureHere in San Diego County, we don’t get much rain, which is another reason why dirt, dust, and salt can accumulate on windows. You might think that when there finally is a downpour, it will simply take care of that grime. In fact, rain will only make a dirty window dirtier — it’ll roll right off a clean window. The same goes for the marine layer, if you live in a coastal area like Carlsbad, La Jolla, or Solana Beach. The moisture from the marine layer isn’t helping dissolve salt or sand on your windows — it’s actually cementing it into a layer of grime. To really be able to take advantage of your ocean view, your home may need more frequent cleaning than an inland residence would. Do Pay Attention to Hard Water StainsHard water deposits minerals on glass and other surfaces, leaving white circles and marks that can be difficult to remove. It’s best not to try to take these off on your own. Without the right tools, it’s extremely easy to scratch or scrape the glass — and unlike the hard water stains, that can’t be removed. A professional window cleaning crew can get rid of hard water stains and other mineral deposits, getting you back to a clear view. Need to schedule window cleaning for your home? Call Freedom Window Cleaning today at 760-598-5510 to learn more about our thorough, reliable service!

Reluctant Allies: Enemies Team Up: a reading list
Steel Crow Saga by Paul Krueger
Four destinies collide in a unique fantasy world of war and wonders, where empire is won with enchanted steel and magical animal companions fight alongside their masters in battle. A soldier with a curse Tala lost her family to the empress’s army and has spent her life avenging them in battle. But the empress’s crimes don’t haunt her half as much as the crimes Tala has committed against the laws of magic... and her own flesh and blood. A prince with a debt Jimuro has inherited the ashes of an empire. Now that the revolution has brought down his kingdom, he must depend on Tala to bring him home safe. But it was his army who murdered her family. Now Tala will be his redemption—or his downfall. A detective with a grudge Xiulan is an eccentric, pipe-smoking detective who can solve any mystery—but the biggest mystery of all is her true identity. She’s a princess in disguise, and she plans to secure her throne by presenting her father with the ultimate prize: the world’s most wanted prince. A thief with a broken heart Lee is a small-time criminal who lives by only one law: Leave them before they leave you. But when Princess Xiulan asks her to be her partner in crime—and offers her a magical animal companion as a reward—she can’t say no, and soon finds she doesn’t want to leave the princess behind. This band of rogues and royals should all be enemies, but they unite for a common purpose: to defeat an unstoppable killer who defies the laws of magic. In this battle, they will forge unexpected bonds of friendship and love that will change their lives—and begin to change the world.
Deception Cove by Owen Laukkanen
Former US Marine Jess Winslow reenters civilian life a new widow, with little more to her name than a falling-down house, a medical discharge for PTSD, and a loyal dog named Lucy. The only thing she actually cares about is that dog, a black-and-white pit bull mix who helps her cope with the devastating memories of her time in Afghanistan. After fifteen years — nearly half his life — in state prison, Mason Burke owns one set of clothes, a wallet, and a photo of Lucy, the service dog he trained while behind bars. Seeking a fresh start, he sets out for Deception Cove, Washington, where the dog now lives. As soon as Mason knocks on Jess's door, he finds himself in the middle of a standoff between the widow and the deputy county sheriff. When Jess's late husband piloted his final "fishing" expedition, he stole and stashed a valuable package from his drug dealer associates. Now the package is gone, and the sheriff's department has seized Jess's dearest possession — her dog. Unless Jess turns over the missing goods, Lucy will be destroyed. The last thing Mason wants is to be dragged back into the criminal world. The last thing Jess wants is to trust a stranger. But neither of them can leave a friend, the only good thing in either of their lives, in danger. To rescue Lucy, they'll have to forge an uneasy alliance. And to avoid becoming collateral damage in someone else's private war, they have to fight back — and find a way to conquer their doubts and fears.
Kingdom of Exiles by Maxym M. Martineau
Exiled beast charmer Leena Edenfrell is in deep trouble. Empty pockets forced her to sell her beloved magical beasts on the black market—an offense punishable by death—and now there's a price on her head. With the realm's most talented murderer-for-hire nipping at her heels, Leena makes him an offer he can't refuse: powerful mythical creatures in exchange for her life. If only it were that simple. Unbeknownst to Leena, the undying ones are bound by magic to complete their contracts, and Noc cannot risk his brotherhood of assassins...not even to save the woman he can no longer live without.
Winter of Ice and Iron by Rachel Neumeier
In this gorgeous, dark fantasy in the spirit of Jacqueline Carey, a princess and a duke must protect the people of their nations when a terrible threat leaves everyone in danger. With the Mad King of Emmer in the north and the vicious King of Pohorir in the east, Kehara Raehema knows her country is in a vulnerable position. She never expected to give up everything she loves to save her people, but when the Mad King’s fury leaves her land in danger, she has no choice but to try any stratagem that might buy time for her people to prepare for war—no matter the personal cost. Hundreds of miles away, the pitiless Wolf Duke of Pohorir, Innisth Eanete, dreams of breaking his people and his province free of the king he despises. But he has no way to make that happen—until chance unexpectedly leaves Kehara on his doorstep and at his mercy. Yet in a land where immanent spirits inhabit the earth, political disaster is not the greatest peril one can face. Now, as the year rushes toward the dangerous midwinter, Kehera and Innisth find themselves unwilling allies, and their joined strength is all that stands between the peoples of the Four Kingdoms and utter catastrophe.
