What’s something that makes you happy? Fuzzy white blankets. Wrap me up in a blanket, plop me in front of a fire and let me watch the snow fall. Also, snow. And mountains. And coffee. And Gilmore Girls. And camping. And plants.
Sam is smart, sweet and creative. She does everything with love and kindness. She sews incredible clothing, is obsessed with plants and takes beautiful photos. She writes really honestly on her blog and her two daughters are beyond adorable. She is one of the most supportive people I know and I so deeply appreciate her. Read our interview below to be fully inspired by everything she does and don’t forget to check out her blog!
Follow her on Instagram here. Find her Facebook page here. Read her blog here.
What would you change about the world if you could? I wish people weren’t so selfish and self-absorbed. If people just thought of others first everyone would be so much happier. Simple things like holding the door, saying thank you when someone holds the door for you, saying hi or smiling to someone when you pass them on the street. If we could all just go back to the basics and think of others first the world would just be a better place.
You have an awesome blog, what got you into doing it? I honestly don’t even know. I’ve always like to put my thoughts on to paper and have always loved writing. I’m also obsessed with reading blogs so I figured why not give it a shot!
What do you hope comes from your blogging? I really love relating to other people. I love finding someone’s blog and they wrote something that I’m like, “Hey, you feel that way too?! I’m not alone?!”. So I really just want to be that person for people. I remember when I wrote about my experiences with postpartum depression and anxiety, I had so many messages and comments about ladies who’d never spoken up about their struggles with it. They all told me they felt so encouraged reading about what I’d been through and how I’d overcome it and it was so nice to know they weren’t alone. So yeah… I guess I just hope that I can continue to be that for someone. If even one person can be helped or related to from something I’ve written I know I’ve accomplished something good.

What do you want to be when you grow up? Are you on your way to that? I always wanted to be a mom and a wife, I have definitely accomplished that. I never really knew what I wanted to be professionally, and I have never aspired to have any secondary education. I just wanted to have babies and stay home with my babies. And when they’ve grown up and moved on… I guess I’ll figure that out then!
What are you passionate about? My family. Watching my girls learn and grow is everything to me. I’m so grateful I can be home with them and be a part of every step of their lives. It’s come with sacrifices but I truly don’t want to be anywhere or be doing anything else than what I’m doing now.
What are your hobbies? Peeing alone? Haha. But in all seriousness.. I love crafty things. I really love planning events, like birthday parties and showers. I draw, paint, redo furniture, up-cycle stuff that normal people would throw out. I like baking and cooking. And sewing! I’m your typical ‘50’s housewife. Haha. In the last year I’ve also really gotten in to plants. I used to dislike houseplants (crazy, right?!) and now my house is filled.

I love everything you sew and I super wish I had that skill. Who taught you to sew? What’s the best part about it? What’s the worst part about it? Thank you! A bit of a combination. My grandma sews so she taught me a few things, she’s been teaching me more as I get older. My mom taught me the very basics early on. I got a sewing machine for Christmas when I was 8 (I believe), but I hand sewed a lot before then. My mom always taught us that it was a good life skill to have. Then I kind of lost interest for a while. In grade 8 and 9 my class took a bus to a different school for home ec classes and my love started up again. In grade 10 and 11 I continued in home ec, and I took an AP Clothing Designs class. After having kids I got even more into it and wanted to make them things. Everything after high school has basically been self taught! And I’m still learning so much every day.
I think the best part about it would be being self sufficient. I make my own clothes, I make the girls clothes, I make baby gifts and birthday/Christmas gifts. I have the knowledge to reuse a piece of clothing once it’s worn out, and I have the knowledge to alter clothing to fit me better and to fix something that’s broken. I love that I can look at a piece of clothing in a store that I like, go home, and recreate it.
The worst part.. would be that I under value my work. I never charge people enough because I feel bad charging what I think I should. I also have a really hard time charging family and friends so I end up giving a lot away. Which I have no problem doing and I love gifting things to people, but sometimes I forget that material costs money. Hahah
If time and money weren’t a problem, what hobby would you try? I would love to extend my “business” and get in to clothing design. I currently don’t have the space for it, but I would love to design clothes. I follow so many pattern designers and I’m just in awe of the things they create. I would also really love to have a huge garden and raise chickens. Those are hobbies, right? Like I said… typical ‘50’s housewife!
What’s something you’re afraid of, but want to do anyways? Sky diving! I love doing anything that gives me a rush (roller coaster junky over here) and it is my goal to one day jump out of a plane. We live across from a field and there’s a person that owns a private plane and offers sky diving. It’s so awesome to watch in summer. I’m not necessarily afraid of it, just have that little fear of “what if” in the back of my head that something could go wrong. I’d also love to go on a cruise and go surfing. I love beaches and that part of the ocean, but the idea of being out far into the ocean is terrifying to me. Yet I want to try surfing and go on a cruise..
What do you wish you did more of? Hmm.. I wish we spent more time outside. We don’t have a yard or a fenced place for the girls to play so I find it really exhausting (partly my anxiety) to just get outside. It’s a huge process just to get out the door and I wish it was easier for me to do. I LOVE being outside.
Tumblr media
What’s something you hope to accomplish this year? I’m actually probably a really odd duck out from normal people but I don’t set personal goals for myself. I used to and then I’d forget about them and then really beat myself up for not doing it. So I find it easier to just go with the flow! But I guess pay down debt?
Is there something you’re saving up money for? Not particularly. We’d love to be able to save for a bigger house with a yard but I guess that’ll take some time!
Tell me something that makes you unique. I’m really loud. Not sure that’s a positive quality… I think it annoys people a lot. When I get in a big group of people I am very vocal, even if it’s just being silly, and I think people think that I’m obnoxious and immature. I don’t really know why I do it and I wish I could change it about myself. Oh well!
Do you have any regrets in your life so far? Not showing people I love them more. I’ve lost a lot of people in my life and death has been a huge part of my life, and there’s no bigger hole than not hearing that one person tell you they love you with every text. You always kind of assume people know you love them but I never want to leave this earth and have the doubt that someone thought I didn’t.
What’s your biggest wish for your kids? That they will love life and always choose to see the positive despite the negatives, and that they will know they are worth so much. That they can be beautiful, but it’s more important to be brave and kind and generous and smart.
How do you want to be remembered? Oh man you ask hard questions! I guess I hope that people see that I’m genuine. I hope people know that when I love, I love hard. I care for everyone that comes in to my life and I don’t give up on people, and I hope that everyone knows that and remembers that about me.
