Tips for Storing and Aging Your Red Wine at The Fine Wine Company Ltd
Red wine aficionados understand that proper storage and aging are crucial for preserving and enhancing the flavor and quality of their favorite bottles. At The Fine Wine Company Ltd, we believe in providing our customers with the knowledge and resources they need to ensure their red wines reach their full potential. In this guide, we'll explore some essential tips for storing and aging red wine to perfection.
Introduction to Storing and Aging Red Wine
Storing and aging red wine is more than just a matter of convenience; it's an essential step in the wine-making process that can significantly impact the taste and aroma of the final product. When done correctly, aging allows the flavors to mellow and develop complexity, resulting in a more enjoyable drinking experience.
Tumblr media
Selecting the Right Storage Conditions
The first step in proper wine storage is creating the ideal environment for aging. Two critical factors to consider are temperature and humidity control, as well as minimizing light exposure and vibration.
Importance of Temperature and Humidity Control
Maintaining consistent temperature and humidity levels is paramount to preserving the integrity of red wine. Ideally, wines should be stored at temperatures between 55°F and 65°F (12°C and 18°C), with humidity levels around 70%. Fluctuations in temperature or humidity can accelerate the aging process or lead to premature spoilage, so it's essential to invest in a quality wine storage system that offers precise control.
Managing Light Exposure and Vibration
Exposure to light, especially sunlight and fluorescent light, can degrade wine quality by causing chemical reactions that alter the taste and aroma. Similarly, excessive vibration, such as that from nearby appliances or machinery, can disturb the sediment in the wine and disrupt the aging process. To minimize these risks, store your red wine in a dark, vibration-free environment, away from windows or high-traffic areas.
Choosing Suitable Containers for Long-Term Aging
Once you've established the right storage conditions, the next step is selecting the appropriate container for aging your red wine.
Types of Wine Storage Containers
Traditional wine cellars: Ideal for long-term aging, wine cellars provide a controlled environment with stable temperature and humidity levels.
Wine refrigerators and coolers: Suitable for smaller collections, wine refrigerators offer convenience and flexibility, allowing you to adjust temperature settings to accommodate different types of wine.
Wine cabinets and racks: Perfect for display purposes, wine cabinets and racks come in various sizes and designs to fit your aesthetic preferences while still providing adequate storage conditions.
Pros and Cons of Each Option
When choosing a storage container, consider factors such as capacity, insulation, and ventilation to ensure optimal aging conditions for your red wine. While traditional wine cellars offer unparalleled stability, wine refrigerators and cabinets are more practical for those with limited space or budget constraints.
Maintaining Proper Labeling and Inventory
Once your red wine is safely stored away, it's essential to keep track of each bottle's whereabouts and aging status. Proper labeling and organization can save you time and frustration when it comes time to select a bottle for special occasions or everyday enjoyment.
Regularly Monitoring and Sampling
Finally, don't forget to regularly check on your stored red wines to ensure they're aging gracefully. Look for any signs of cork deterioration, leakage, or off-putting odors, which could indicate spoilage or contamination. Additionally, periodically sample your wines to assess their development and readiness for consumption, taking note of any changes in flavor, aroma, or texture.
Conclusion
In conclusion, proper storage and aging are essential steps in maximizing the enjoyment of your red wine collection. By following the tips outlined above and investing in quality storage solutions, you can ensure that your wines age gracefully and reach their full potential. At The Fine Wine Company Ltd, we're committed to helping you preserve and savor the rich flavors of your favorite red wines for years to come. Cheers to good taste and impeccable aging!

What is the Purpose of a Warehouse?
At its core, a warehouse serves as a central storage facility for businesses of all shapes and sizes. From raw materials to finished products, warehouses provide a secure and organized space to house inventory until it's needed. This storage function is fundamental, allowing companies to manage production cycles, seasonal fluctuations in demand and bulk purchases. Imagine a clothing retailer – they wouldn't want to keep their entire winter collection on the shop floor during the summer months. Warehouses offer the perfect solution, enabling them to store excess stock efficiently and strategically release it as the seasons change.
Tumblr media
But warehouses are much more than static storage containers. They act as dynamic hubs for inventory management, playing a crucial role in keeping track of stock levels and ensuring smooth order fulfillment. Warehouse management systems (WMS) and other technological advancements have transformed how warehouses operate. These systems track the movement of goods, optimize storage space, and generate real-time data on inventory levels. This allows businesses to maintain optimal stock levels, preventing stockouts and ensuring they have enough products to meet customer demand.
Furthermore, warehouses function as vital links in the fulfillment process. Once an order is placed, the warehouse springs into action. Here, skilled warehouse personnel utilize efficient picking and packing methods to locate, assemble, and package the ordered items. Whether it's a single book or a complex piece of machinery, warehouses ensure products are carefully selected, prepared, and dispatched for delivery to the customer. With the rise of e-commerce, warehouses have become even more critical, playing a central role in the rapid and accurate delivery of online purchases.
The functionality of a warehouse doesn't stop there. Many warehouses are equipped to handle value-added services that enhance the product before it reaches the end customer. These services can range from simple tasks like kitting (assembling various components into a single product) to more complex processes like labeling, light assembly, or quality control checks. By offering these value-added services, warehouses can streamline the supply chain and reduce the workload for manufacturers and distributors.
The design and layout of a warehouse itself plays a significant role in optimizing its functionality. Modern warehouses often incorporate features like designated storage zones, high-bay racking systems, and automated picking and retrieval technologies. These features allow for efficient use of space and streamlined movement of goods within the facility. Additionally, some warehouses cater to specific storage requirements, featuring temperature-controlled environments for perishable goods or specialized security measures for high-value items.
Warehouses are the unsung heroes of our supply chain. They provide a vital storage function, manage inventory with precision, fulfill orders efficiently, and even offer additional value-added services. By optimizing space, implementing technology, and employing skilled personnel, warehouses ensure a smooth flow of goods, ultimately contributing to the products we rely on every day. The next time you receive a package at your doorstep, take a moment to appreciate the complex network behind it, with the warehouse playing a central and irreplaceable role in the journey.

Navigating the Complexities of Transporting Large Goods
In the intricate world of logistics and supply chain management, oversized freight shipping stands out as a remarkable challenge that requires meticulous planning, regulatory knowledge, and specialized equipment. This type of shipping involves the transport of large, heavy, or otherwise dimensionally non-standard items that cannot be easily accommodated by standard shipping containers or methods. From construction machinery and industrial equipment to large-scale art installations and wind turbine blades, the range of goods classified as
oversized is diverse, necessitating a closer look at how these logistical feats are accomplished.
Understanding Oversized Freight
However, these dimensions can vary based on local regulations and road capabilities. Weight limits also play a crucial role, with different thresholds set for various types of roads and bridges, making route planning an essential component of oversized freight shipping.
The Planning Phase
Shipping oversized freight is not as straightforward as booking a standard shipment. It begins with an extensive planning phase that involves route surveys, permit acquisitions, and the coordination of various logistical partners. Selecting the right mode of transport—be it road, rail, sea, or air—is critical, and often, multiple modes are combined to optimize the journey. The planning phase also requires understanding and complying with the regulations of each jurisdiction the freight will pass through, which can vary significantly from one region to another.
Specialized Equipment and Vehicles
Handling oversized freight requires specialized equipment designed to accommodate unusual sizes and weights. For road transport, this might include extended trailers, modular trailers, and trucks equipped with advanced steering systems to navigate tight corners and narrow roads. For sea and air freight, cargo might need to be loaded onto flat rack containers or inside cargo planes with large doors and reinforced floors. The selection of equipment is determined by the cargo’s dimensions, weight, and the specific challenges of the planned route.
Navigating Regulatory Requirements
One of the most complex aspects of oversized freight shipping is navigating the myriad of regulatory requirements. This includes obtaining the necessary permits for each segment of the journey, which may involve different government agencies and local authorities. Permits specify conditions such as travel times, required escorts, and any necessary modifications to infrastructure, such as the removal of roadside obstacles or the temporary reinforcement of bridges. Compliance with these regulations is non-negotiable, as failure to adhere can result in significant fines, delays, and safety risks.
Safety and Risk Management
Safety is paramount in the shipping of oversized freight. The risk of accidents is inherently higher due to the cargo's size and weight, which can affect vehicle handling and stability. To mitigate these risks, transport companies invest in rigorous driver training, detailed route planning, and the use of escort vehicles that help manage traffic and ensure the safe movement of the freight. Additionally, comprehensive insurance coverage is essential to protect against potential damages or liabilities that may arise during transport.
The Future of Oversized Freight Shipping
As global industries continue to evolve and expand, the demand for oversized freight shipping is set to grow. Innovations in equipment design, route planning software, and regulatory frameworks are making it easier to transport large items across vast distances. Moreover, the push towards renewable energy sources, like wind and solar, which require the movement of large components, underscores the importance of developing more efficient and sustainable oversized freight shipping solutions.

Maul Builds a Nest (1/3)
full fic list here
maul and caris here
it's maul and caris' first mating season together, and neither of them have any experience, so they trust their instincts and figure it out as they go
(I would say this falls somewhere between 'maul gets married' and 'caris builds a lightsaber')
warnings: courting rituals, protectiveness, allusions to mating/heat cycles
Caris knew her husband well enough to find it strange when he started bringing her things from his work room. Maul occasionally liked to buy old or broken machinery to tinker with, but he had never made something out of those parts just for her.
She found his gift on her nightstand; a small lamp made of a single bulb with shards of colored glass suspended inside. It was beautiful even when turned off, as he had positioned it so the sunlight would become rainbows when filtered through. Caris was stunned by the craftsmanship, even more so by how thoughtful it was. He had clearly spent some time on it, but gave himself no credit. The next time she saw Maul, she made sure to thank him with a kiss.
A few days later, Caris noticed that fresh meat had appeared in the fridge.
"Love, what is this? I want to cook with it, but I'm not sure how."
Maul's eyes lit up at the suggestion, only to drop when she voiced her confusion. "I can get you something else, if this will not work."
She tilted her head, setting the container down. "I didn't say I don't want it, silly. Just tell me what it is."
Looking up almost bashfully, which was more of a surprise than anything else, he said, "It's a sand mynock. I caught it the last time I went out."
Blinking at the hunk of meat, she could hardly picture it flying on webbed wings. "Oh. I don't think I've ever seen one like this." She kissed his cheek and began pulling spices from the rack. "Thank you, my love. I'll try one of my family's recipes for monkey-lizards; shouldn't be too different."
After a ten-day of random gifts and butchered animals showing up around the house, Caris figured Maul was bored and dragged him out of the house to get groceries. He was typically a bit uneasy when it came to public displays of affection, but something had him glued to her side as they walked the streets.
"You're awfully touchy today. We aren't even in the same region as Canto Bight, so what's got you so protective?"
"Nothing is wrong, Caris." He grumbled into her hair.
She rolled her eyes and slipped her arms around him while she looked over the fruit on sale. "Are you feeling alright?"
Maul inhaled deeply, "Fine."
Sighing, she let go of him to select a few things. "Can you get me a bag of rice before I forget? I'll be right here when you get back."
Scowling, he untangled himself and stalked off.
Caris continued picking through the produce, wondering if she would find the brand of fathier milk she liked. It didn't occur to her to be vigilant, as she had been through this market more times than she could count, but when a man bumped into her, they both heard a snarl.
Her husband dropped the bag of rice to insert himself between Caris and the other customer, growling in Dathomirian. Huffing, she yanked on his arm until he turned back to her.
"Quit that." She cupped his face and gave him a stern look she had unfortunately learned from her mother. "He didn't do it on purpose, now let's go."
Maul closed his eyes, visibly mellowing under her touch. He took hold of the groceries and followed her quietly to buy them.
That wouldn't be the last time that Caris had to talk her husband down from threatening someone that got too close for comfort, but as long as it didn't escalate, she found she kind of liked when Maul got protective. No one had ever really stood up for her or made her feel like they had chosen her. Even Dayanna was forced into her position. And Maul didn't exactly have a choice in marrying her, but he could have left her in any number of ways. He could have cast her aside or ignored her, but he didn't. Maul was fine with having her as his wife. He wanted her.
Caris made a note of every little thing he did to show her he cared and tried to match it. If he made her something, she would display it proudly. She would cook the game he hunted, let her touches linger, finish the chores he left half done. At night, when everything was quiet except for their breathing and the beats of four hearts, Caris would whisper her love through the Force. She wasn't sure if they had a true bond or not, but she liked to think he heard it all.
Steadily, her things and his became their things as the two of them really became comfortable with each other. They shared a house, a bed, secrets, and inside jokes. It had been months since they married, and Caris was enjoying this new side of Maul that was willing to let her in. At first, they were strangers allied in finding happiness, now they were truly husband and wife.
The changes didn't just make her feel different emotionally, but physically too. Caris thought she had come down with something the first time Maul's smile made her insides flare white-hot. She had been aroused by him before, been overcome by lust, but this feeling was not quite the same. The heat was all consuming, leaving her unfocused at best and irritable at worst. It was an itch she didn't know how to scratch, and tempering her aggression only intensified the need.
Maul watched her snap and snarl, just to sigh and apologize. He fed on her tumultuous emotions through the Force. He drank in her praise and acceptance of his offerings greedily. He held her close as she slept, hoping that soon she would give in to instinct as he had. A zabrak was a predator, a near-human beast with behaviors and rituals that other species would look down on as animalistic. But what was a person, if not an animal with manners?
Maul wanted nothing more than for his mate to let go of her inhibitions and fully respond to his courting as she so clearly wished to. It was not her fault that she was not brought up to do so, just as he hadn't. They would learn together, but first Caris must let go.

An Evening
The clouds had finally broken. The day had been dreary beforehand, non-stop rain that had started the night before had been pelting the towers and factories of Quicksilver until now. This wasn't unusual. The city was situated in a swamp, damp weather was commonplace, but today he was over it. Most of his day had been spent in the grand hall. A Tower meeting was called, to discuss the politics and running of the state. It had started before the sun even rose, much to his dismay, and had carried on without break until now. He had to call for the meeting to adjourn for the day, the other members agreed. Everyone was tired, crabby, and annoyed, barring him for reasons unknown to the rest of the Tower.
As soon as the meeting was formally ended, Frank bolted back to his familial home. Though it was only him living there now, it still held his family's crest over the door, something deeply rooted in Quicksilven tradition. He checked his clock: 1830, perfect, he had just enough time. He shedded the bulky dress uniform that was required for such high end meetings, slipping on more comfortable clothes. Their colors were bright and bold, in a stark contrast to the grays, silvers, and golds of the dress outfit that he'd worn all too often. He grabbed a few more things, including his Hunter Blade, something he never left home without.
To those untrained, such weapons looked like a hilt, with no blade to speak of. Frank spun the hilt in his hand for a moment, before gripping it tightly. A pulse of redstone energy would prove the untrained wrong, a thin blade building itself from the hilt, with small clicks as it locked itself in place. The metal glinted in the sunlight that was now pouring through the breaking clouds and into the homes window. A marvel of engineering, and one of the best melee weapons in the Hunter Corps arsenal. Another pulse and the blade retracted back into the hilt, allowing Frank to slip it into a holster on his belt. He performed one last check, pat of the pockets, a quick glance over the "ready" stand that he had by his door for anything he might have forgotten. Nope, all there, checklist complete. After one last glance at the clock, he was off, a small click reverberating around the house as he locked the door behind him.
He had to go back through the factory block first, which was now well lit, the sun glinting off of the large metallic steam stacks. The wide roads that made a methodical grid around the factories were mostly quiet. The sound of water running down gutters, and the deep thrum of machinery drowned out any human noise that occurred from the few workers that were outside. Most of them were eating their lunch, or beginning their commute home, a few were loading wagons and cargo containers with the last of the day's goods. There were a few civilians traversing the paths as well, people on walks, or on their own commute, or simply taking the time to enjoy the evening sun. A deep rumble of distant thunder echoed between the towers, a reminder of the gloom that had just passed.
After a few turns and another few minutes of walking, Frank arrived at his first destination, the central market. The roads changed almost instantly from nearly deserted, to rather bustling. The colorful garb of the people of Quicksilver creating blazes of color as people went about their business. The market was built around Quicksilver Spire, still one of the tallest buildings within the city. It once served as the Tower's Chamber, a meeting hall, a focal point for all official business to be conducted. Now however, it's a hub for the people. Frank smiled, taking a moment to watch, to soak in the sight of children playing, parents conversing, and workers chortling. This made the maddening days within the Tower worth it.
Frank boldly stepped into the fray, pulling a list out of his pocket as he instinctively knew were to go. The plaza held everything from food and alcohol, to armor and ceremonial clothing. Stalls would shift from day to day, but the families that manned them had been there long before he had. Follow the voices.
An older man calling out an order in a unique accent, someone from off Bermuda that made excellent food, a unique blend of flavors and cultures, the smell of spices and roasted vegetables filled his nose. Most of the mobile food stands shifted in the evening to be upwind from the factories. A bartender calling out drinks in a more familiar accent. One of the newbies from Blacksand, handling herself quite well considering the rush hour pressure. He continued however, ignoring the good smells and rowdy patrons of the food carts, coming about to his goal.
An older woman stood proud in her stall, shimmering armor and weapons of various makes hanging off of hooks and displayed on racks, her family crest displayed proudly on the front of the stall. She was tending to another consumer, who seemed to be looking for a ceremonial sword for some kind of occasion. Their clothes clearly weren't Quicksilven, it looked closer to the clothing of N'ra, a rather rare sight, regardless of the city's relationship with Quicksilver itself. The woman tending the stall looked to Frank and smiled, beckoning him over. The N'ra patron backed away, continuing their search for the perfect sabre.
"May I speak to you?" Frank asked politely.
The stall keeper nodded, turning to the N'ra patron, "Please, excuse me." She stated, before returning her attention to Frank. "Well if it isn't the man from the tower himself" she opened, with a grin. "Come here for the pickup?"
Frank gave a nod, chuckling a little. "Ji, you don't need to call me that junk. Never liked those fancy titles anyway. Yes, I am here to pick up my order."
Ji gave a bit of a grin, before turning and rustling around in a box. "So you're finally doing it hm?" She asked, her voice slightly muffled as she searched.
"Finally, yeah. I... think it's been long enough, for both of us." He replied, tapping his fingers on the desk of the stall gently.
"Well, Jo and I have been telling you to do this for a while now, 'bout time you listened." Ji replied with a cheerful grin as she stood up, brushing the dust off of her sleeves. "I assume you'll want to view the merchandise?"
She got a small nod in reply. With that, she hefted a slightly curved blade over the counter, handing it to him. He took it carefully, "Thank you." he stated, as Ji let the full weight of the blade rest in his hands. He took a moment to admire it, his gaze slowly crawling over every inch. The finely tuned metal and workings glinting softly in the fading sunlight. If his blade was a marvel of technological capabilities, this blade was pure passion. No complexities, no compromises. Forged, assembled, wrapped, all by Ji's hands.
"She's my most proud piece yet." Ji interjected as Frank was looking it over. "I imported the metal from N'ra, no big mining there, but I've got a friend. Minimum redstone content, good material. I got that glowstone inlay to work as well." She mentioned, pointing out the lines that danced around the blade, nearly indiscernible from the metal around it. "Straight from the fire forest. Should work beautifully".
Frank took the blade and clenched his hand on the hilt, a pulse of redstone and the glowstone within the blade lit up. While not much while the sun was still up, even if it was ebbing, it would be more than enough to light the way in a dark cavern, or over an unlit road. The inlay glowed orange, a mixture between the minute amount of redstone powering the equally small amount of glowstone. As he pulled his hand off the sword the glow faded into nothing.
"Good, right?" Ji asked with a chuckle. Frank gave a smiling nod in reply. "Now, the wraps are made from Void Mantis leather. Sturdy, good grip, and weather proof. Hard as nails to get that stuff to take shape, you know that right?"
"I've cut enough of them to know, and what about the crest I showed you?" He inquired, looking back to Ji.
"Right on the pommel, you think I'd forget a detail like that?" Ji said with a knowing smirk. A quick check on the pommel, and indeed there was the crest, it clearly wasn't Quicksilven.
He smiled a bit "It's perfect Ji... Thank you. Now, what do I owe you?" He asked, setting the blade down on the counter.
"This time, nothin'. Think of it as a gift from our family to yours. Besides, you and your Hunters bring more than enough business to me." She said with a warm smile, taking the sword and putting it in a scabbard. "Now... take it, and make your evening, and don't forget to let me know how it goes." That warm smile got even bigger as she offered the sword to him.
He took it, returning the smile "Ji... are you sure? I know this-"
"Uhp uhp uhp" Ji interrupted, "I said what I said. Now go, before I change my mind." She said. "Off with you!" She demanded, waving Frank away, immediately returning her attention to the N'ra patron, who had now selected a rather decorative rapier.
Frank smiled a bit, hooking the scabbard onto his belt for now, before heading to his next destination. At this point, shadows were long and distorted; it was nearly twilight. He had wandered into a residential district. The towers scraping the clouds had been replaced with smaller homes. They still held the same stark metallic outside. Family crests above the doors, several buildings being rather large compared to the "standard" home. Housing multiple families.
The sun was all but gone now. The lights built into the Quicksilven streets flickered to life, bathing the town in a warm glow from underneath. Even the towers and stacks sprang to life, lights shining up the steam stacks and spires of the city. Frank paused for a moment, stepping to the side of the road to let others pass as he looked towards the heart of his home. Quicksilver Spire was lit in a beautiful gold, a few brighter areas scattered around for Mag-Copter landing pads. The citadel could be seen even further in the distance. "Good riddance" He thought. A whole day spent in that particular building doesn't make for a good one.
He returned his attention to the task at hand however, and resumed his walk. He was almost there now. The wall had come into view not too long ago, as well as the gate. It was one of the lesser ones, but a decent number of people came through it each day. Mostly Quicksilven traders that lived in the district. For now however, the only one there was the gate guard. Perfect. He walked past him, flashing his identity, the guard gave him a nod as he continued into the birch forest beyond the gate.
It wasn't long now, a couple more minutes. His hands shook a bit as nerves got the better of him. Wasn't the first time, wouldn't be the last, but this was something new. As he crested a hill, he spotted her. The twitch of an ear later, she turned to face him. He gave a warm smile as he approached. Her ability to emote was... questionable at best, and while she was capable of it, it took very trained eyes to notice. His eyes were well trained however, countless missions as a Hunter and as a mercenary meant he could read her face well. Maybe not as well as some, but more than enough.
Another twitch of her long, pointed ears, and just the faintest tugging at the corners of her lips. It was a warm smile in return, at least, in her own way. She was as happy to see him as he was her.

Tracking & Controlling Assets Using RFID & Bar Code
When selecting a tracking technology to track assets there are several factors to consider. First, what is your objective? If the objective is to collect and manage data you should select the technology that is best suited to help you achieve that objective - not let the technology dictate how you go about collecting your information. Second, what type of asset are you going to be tracking - fixed or mobile? Examples of fixed assets may include furniture, machinery, computers, etc. Mobile assets, on the other hand, may include pallets, returnable containers, racks, etc. Will one technology work better for fixed versus mobile assets?
OK, once you have your objective identified and your assets defined it is time to take a closer look at factors that may have an impact of the type of technology you plan to use. For example, consider the material composition of the item being tracking, i.e. metal, plastic, wood, etc. If we are looking specifically at bar code and radio frequency identification technologies we need to consider that RFID, more specifically passive ultra high frequency (UHF) RFID, has limitations when attached to metal assets and assets containing liquids. QR Code Tags
Metal surfaces reflect RF, detuning the antenna, thus affecting readability. Likewise, liquids absorb RF also affecting readability. On the other hand, surface composition for standard label products is not a factor. In addition, the radius or contour of a surface also affects readability when using RFID technology; whereas standard tags and labels can be designed for radius or curved surface so as not to affect readability. Other environmental factors that can have an impact on the type of tracking technology you use may include heat, UV exposure, abrasion, chemicals and solvents. Many of these factors may cause RFID not to work while bar code tags and labels can be designed to resist exposure to harsh environments. QR Code Tracking Management
After reading the above information you might think RFID may not be the answer. However, there are numerous benefits to using RFID as your tracking technology. First, RFID allows users the ability to read multiple items in a short period of time (i.e. case lot unit containers, pallets, etc.) unlike bar code where you can only scan one at a time. Second, line-of-site isn't needed when reading an RFID tag unlike bar code where you have to physically scan each bar code image. Third, depending on the type of inlay and readers used, RFID has a much longer read range. RFID integrated QR code tags
So, bar code has its advantages and RFID has its advantages too. Why not use both? Really there is a minimum additional investment for bar code and utilizing both technologies will allow locations that are not able to support RFID infrastructure to utilize the data simply by integrating the bar code information into the RFID inlay.

A Guide to Different Types of Shipping Containers
                 Package Tracking Software
Depending on the budget, type of goods, delivery location, and delivery time, businesses choose road, rail, air, or ocean as the mode of transportation. Among all these modes, the ocean moves the majority of world’s goods, especially between different countries. One of the reasons behind it is that transporting goods through the ocean is cost-effective. Another consideration besides choosing the mode of transportation is selecting the type of container.
Choosing the right shipping container is important to ensure damage-free transportation. For that, a business must have an idea of different types of containers available. So, let’s check out some of the most commonly used shipping containers-
Tumblr media
Tunnel
Tunnel containers facilitate quick and hassle-free loading as well as unloading as they have doors on the front and the back.
Open top and open side
The top of the open top containers can be removed completely to make it perfect for transporting tall machinery, tools, and equipment. Once can choose from 40′ and 20′ containers depending on the requirement.
Open side containers offer a wider room as the side doors can be removed to thoroughly accommodate goods that can’t go through normal doors.
Flat rack
These types of containers come with collapsible sides that makes them ideal for transporting construction items, heavy machines, and other such items.
Dry storage
These are the most common type of containers with roof, doors, and sidewalls.
Reefer or Refrigerated
Reefer containers are mainly used for transporting perishable products such as fruits, frozen food, meat, vegetables, etc in low temperatures. These are temperature regulated shipping containers perfect for the goods that require a temp-controlled environment.
Thermal
Goods that need to be transported in high temperatures require insulated or thermal containers. Thermal containers are used for shipping certain kinds of pharmaceuticals, biological materials, and other items.
Special purpose
These are custom-made containers preferred for transporting weapons, arsons, and other special products.
Half-height
Half-height containers are a perfect choice to move iron ore, stones, coal, and other such items in bulk. As the name suggests, the height of these containers is half of a normal container.
Tanks
Tank containers are made of anti-corrosive material and preferred for shipping liquid material. Such containers ensure complete durability of the liquid being transported.
Drums
Drum containers are made using fibre, steel, plastic, and other lightweight metals. Like the tank containers, drums are also used to transport liquid material.
Cargo storage roll
Cargo storage roll containers are selected to ship goods in stacks. These are easy to fold containers that use thick wire mesh and rollers to ensure damage-free transportation of goods.
Intermediate bulk shift
This type of container is preferred in case of bulk and intermediate shipping of items from one place to another.
Car carriers
This type of container is used to ship cars and other vehicles from one place to another, usually for a long distance.
Swap bodies
Comes with a convertible top, such type of containers is only preferred for road and rail transportations.
Along with selecting the right container and carrier for shipping goods, it is also necessary to have cargo tracking software or freight tracking software to track your shipments in real-time. The software would help you to know the up-to-date status of each shipment while rendering other benefits like on-time delivery, customer satisfaction, monitor performance of shipping carriers, and more. The package tracking software or package tracking system automates the shipment tracking process and reduces the need for hiring professionals to do this task. It brings accuracy in each result. Get such software to improve your supply chain operations and increase business profitability.
