How would you pronounce Taisui Xingjun?

I wouldn’t. I just copied the name from the wiki. That said, it seems like a pretty straightforward Chinese spelling? Sorry I can’t help you more than that; honestly I’m lost when it comes to Chinese. Usually I just google names and pray that they’re famous enough to get mentions in English.

For what it’s worth though, in Japanese the name would be Taisai Seikun. The translators just put it in Chinese for the same reason they put Jouga as Chang’e. It’s a Chinese god so we use the Chinese name. I feel this practice has both upsides and downsides, but we’re already doing it so I might as well keep things consistent.

For the American release of "Touhou Kobuto V: Burst Battle" they "localized" (i guess?) Rumia's name as "Lumia" I don't know if it's because the orignal developers spelled it this way or if it was the localization team's decision. But what do you think? Is that more correct or just dumb? I know the wiki recently decided to change Chang'e to Jouga which I actually like because its easier to say. What do you think about that change?

I honestly like Lumia better than Rumia, but I don’t think the difference is large enough try to “fix” it like we did for Eiki back in the day.

As for Chang’e to Jouga, the issue is whether we should translate names from Japanese to Chinese, like we do for Buddhist terms (which we translate to Sanskrit). For example, we translate Eiki’s title of “Enma” to “Yama”. In terms of Chinese specifically, we also translated the name of the Catfish’s master in Meiling’s dream (in Hisoutensoku) from Taisai Seikun to Taisui Xingjun. However, we did not translate Seiga’s name to Chinese, nor even her title (Niang Niang). So I guess the problem there was inconsistency.

I haven’t actually been following the discussion, but I’d imagine that because of Junko’s backstory, there’s been a push to treat Chang’e/Jouga as an actual offscreen character instead of just some background detail. So we treat her more like Seiga than Taisui. Personally, though, I don’t feel like it strongly needed to be changed, and changing it at this point might just be confusing to casual fans.

Edit: Meiling, for the record, has always had her name pronounced in Chinese, even in the Japanese version, which is why Japanese fans found her name so hard to remember and called her China.
