Absolutely obsessing over the soundtrack for this game. I was never a fan of sports games but HOW do you make a soundtrack that makes me feel like I NEED TO MOVE FAST, but in the calmest way possible. An actual soundtrack to my life.

In P4, Kanji talks about his "animal crackers", which in Japanese was a real snack called Ototo.
When Persona 4 Golden was re-released on Steam in 2020, Atlus/Sega had seemingly lost the rights or partnership to call Ototo by its actual name.
When Kanji catches Yosuke eating his Ototo, Yosuke now calls it, "Suisui Snack", and the line is also unvoiced as they just removed the audio instead of having the voice actors re-record. Since the Ototo snacks are supposed to be sea and marine-themed (ototo is like... a childish way of saying fish, yeah let's go with that), I assume the "don't sue us" name, Suisui, is from 水 which can be read sui or mizu and means water.
Unrelatedly but also relatedly, another name that had to be changed as a result is Potelong as that was also a real snack. It was localized as Tater Longs. The "don't sue us" name for that one in the 2020 Steam release was Furaimo Potato. Since Potelong look like french fries, I assume that's a combo of fried foods (furai) and the JP word for potato (imo), plus just the eng word potato lol. Fried potato potato.
The localization for these didn't change, so they're still animal crackers and Tater Longs in the 2020+ English game.
Meanwhile, other real products like Ribbon Citron and Ribbon Napolin (Eng: TaP Soda and Orange Smash) and Homerun Bars (Eng: Topsicles) still keep their real names in the 2020+ versions of the game, and you can even see their manufacturers (Pokka and Kyodo Milk) in the credits still.
So, if you've ever wondered why a milk company is in the credits...

Researching Home Consoles
There are various types of home console expansions and licensed modifications that use fairly proprietary ideas. Along with arcade games, these are good research for alternate controllers.
Device 1 - Power Glove
youtube
I thought this unwieldy thing was just a joke from Nightmare on Elm Street, but apparently it was a real console. It can detect the positions of your fingers when you wear the glove, and can also detect roll, but it also does everything an NES does, using the controller on the wrist. The games that came with it could be mostly played with a regular NES, but certain abilities could only be used with the PowerGlove. It is a weird experiment, something of a cross between the augmented-reality glove controllers and regular gyroscopic controllers we have in the modern day. I feel as if the games it came with would be easier to play without actually wearing the glove, though. A better version might be something akin to the Knuckle controllers that come with a Valve Index VR headset.
Device 2 - Steel Battalion
youtube
This is actually a pretty awesome idea for a game. It's a mech combat game where you pilot a Vertical Tank (VT), but it comes with a gigantic controller. The controller has two joysticks, a throttle, three foot pedals, a dial for in-game radio channels, five switches, about a dozen buttons, and even an emergency eject button. I imagine that playing the game, you feel like you're actually in the cockpit of a massive mech - even starting a level, you need to go through the boot sequence, hitting various power switches in the right order. If you mess up, the engine overheats and you need to start again. I imagine that if this control system wasn't made bespoke for the Steel Battalion series, it could be more popular; for example, if it was a one-size-fits-all system like various farmsticks and driving rigs, except for mech games like Titanfall and MechWarrior Online. I might actually do that for my project actually. On the topic of accessibility, this actually resembles one of those large Xbox controllers with remapped inputs, so it could work better than a standard one.
Device 3 - Donkey Konga Bongos
youtube
This controller consists of a set of two bongos, designed for the game of the same name. There is not too much to this one - the game is a rhythm game, and with this you can play the bongos in real time instead of just tapping buttons on the Dreamcast controller. This could have been used for other rhythm games if it had more drums attached to it - many rhythm games use the four-arrows input, so four drums would have let it be used for games other than just the one. I feel that with these alternative controllers, they work best if they can be used for more than one game, otherwise the game company is banking on the cost of design and manufacturing for the controller being less than the game sales. And if it's not, they lose money and have an obsolete project as soon as the game it is packaged with becomes outdated. Accessibility-wise, you just need two hands, good enough hand-eye coordination to hit the bongos, and good enough motor skills to time the hits correctly. That problem does exist with most games, however, not just with these bongos.
Device 4 - Dreamcast Fishing Controller
youtube
This is an interesting controller. It has various buttons, a joystick, a crank on the side for a reeling-in motion, and even motion tracking in it like a Wii. As far as I can tell, it works with many famous Dreamcast fishing games, such as Sega Bass Fishing and also Sega Marine Fishing. It is good to see a unique controller like this being functional across multiple games, which was a complaint I had about some previous controllers on this list. It's also not entirely a novelty item - it seems to work ok, and plenty of games still have fishing minigames in them, so this controller could be plugged in for a twist on that. Accessibility-wise, it requires you to frantically reel in fish, which could be difficult if you are not too mobile in the arms.
Conclusion
In terms of unique and interesting ideas, there are certainly many for home consoles, but I am not as impressed by these ones as I was by, say, the arcade. Lots of these can be chalked up to weird experiments, or bespoke items that work for one game, and nothing else. I was most interested by the Steel Battalion controller.

Whats the best current Gen fishing game?
What’s the best current Gen fishing game? I used to love games like Sega Marine Fishing, and I want to scratch that itch. Are there any fairly recent fishing games that are actually good? And I’m not talking about games like Dave the Diver and Dredge, (which are good). I mean real rod & line fishing games, thanks!
