I'm currently about 3/4s of the way through the Scarlet & Violet DLC in my Mostly Nuzlocke (I couldn't be arsed to figure out how to translate the first encounter rule into SV so it's just a permadeath run with limited resources), I just beat Kieran, and I'm about to go to Area Zero, and I can already tell that this character is going to be fun.
Sam, the protagonist from my previous saga, goes through a lot. There is a damn good reason that I've labelled the Y run "Into the Abyss," shit gets messy for her and I've labelled her "Sam 'All of my Friends are Dead' White" because of it.
But, uh, I am not very good at double battles. Especially high-level double battles with lots of Pokemon. Ryme was a scary fight in this run and Raihan is normally a "Someone's dying here" fight. I almost got destroyed in Amarys' fight, and I went into Lacey and Drayton's fights with the full intent of sacrificing Pokemon to get through.
So Jade, the new protagonist, is getting "Corruption Arc NOW" vibes. Girl took one game's worth of trauma to start throwing things to the lions.
I'm at 18 deaths.
Current roster: Meowscarada, Ceruledge, Garchomp, Baxcalibur, technically Miraidon but I only used him for one fight, Iron Valiant, Empoleon, Hisuian Arcanine, Galvantula, Chien-Pao
Dead: Fletchling, Houndour, Nymble, Clodsire, Zangoose, Gallade, Lycanroc-Midday, Kilowattrel, Pyroar-F, Glaceon, Eelektross, Annihilape, Salamence, Arbok, Garganacl, Scizor, Flygon, Ursaluna-Blood Moon
But the original intent of "stronger bonds and appreciation for new teammates" isn't entirely lost. I've come to love Empoleon greatly, when it was previously my least favourite of the Sinnoh starters, finally putting this trio into the category of "trios where I like all three and have used all three" alongside the Kanto and Hoenn trios. Hisuian Arcanine is great and I may have been enabled on Legends when I previously wasn't that interested in it. The high levels of the DLC have allowed Iron Valiant to really come into its own, that 319 Attack is nothing to sneeze at. Chien-Pao will go first and will destroy everything in its way.
Anyway, Kieran got absolutely destroyed by Empoleon's bulk and Competitive ability and Iron Valiant liberally applying Spirit Break, now to go find a turtle.
