Why this fic:

This is a quick one-shot fic, post season 1. SO well written, with two of my favorite things: Caitlyn perspective + a Vi with high emotional intelligence who recognizes how valuable what she has with Caitlyn is

It has one of the best lines for any CaitVi fic i've ever read -

I mean - DAMN. If that isn't an encapsulation of these two and their immmediate powerful connection !!

This is the first EVER fic rec post so naturally I had to start with: Fic Name: Shades of Us by yourkilljoy

Reckless enforcer Vi and uptight sheriff Caitlyn have always been the perfect pair. How such an unlikely pairing came about is the subject of wild rumor and tavern speculation.

A series of vignettes all over Piltover and Zaun paint a picture of Piltover’s finest in an attempt to set the record straight– once and for all.

Why this fic: This fic for me was a warm hug of an introduction into the CaitVi fandom. Back in December post watching s1 I was wading through a sea of fics that focused on immediate post s1 canon, or smutty hookups - and trust me I love that shit.

But Shades of Us was like - hey - take a closer look at this whole CaitVi thing.

We canonically have this established Sheriff & Deputy partnership with major hints of more than just a professional relationship. We then get a prequel Netflix show that gives us backround on relationship dynamics based on legitimate sources of tension - one being Rich Piltover Heiress vs Undercity Zaunite; one with unbroken optimistic drive to right wrongs vs one cynical but will do anything for their loved ones, etc. There is also a tension between the intensity of what Caitlyn and Vi have with one another vs all the outside expectations placed on them due to their status, position, circumstance, etc.

This fic opened my eyes to this meaty dynamic and did it with an EXCELLENT setup of looking at Caitlyn & Vi's relationship from the outside in. Then - its not just having a good idea like this one - but yourkilljoy NAILS the delivery.

After reading this fic i knew I was hooked on this fandom something fierce. There is depth to the Caitlyn Vi pairing and dynamic which is I'm sure why you are hooked like me and reading this long ass gush about a CaitVi fic.

Its got plenty of Kudos so many of ya'll have read it but if you somehow missed it please do NOT sleep on this fic.

Why this fic:

Okay so listen this here fic is a solid contender for the best fic in the fandom right now. When I try to talk about it I just gush and to save us from 15 paragraphs in this fic rec post let me just put it this way: What is there NOT to love about this fic? What reason do you have for NOT reading it?

You hate well written, excellent fanfiction

You fear reading this post season 1 fic which is so expertly done it will ruin season 2 for you because really now how can the Arcane showrunners actually do better?

I mean i guess if you are someone who just hates multichapter fic or something?

My favorite parts (sensing a pattern here?) are how ROMANTIC the damn Caitlyn x Vi moments are, built up with tension when they are apart and pure release when the characters reunite. Cassandra's moments with Vi are also a big favorite.

But honestly, that is just the tip of the iceburg surrounded by excellent writing, characterizations, and almost like detective procedural drama under the surface.

I mean just go read this already please - show the author love and maybe just maybe we'll be lucky enough to get a sequel.

Oh yeah - and I wasn't joking when i said this fic was so good it basically made me create Fic Rec Friday in order to get the word out. Its just straight up not an exaggeration.

Why this fic:

I don't know if there is a name for this type of fic - but if I had to come up with one I'd call it a 'heartbeat' style fic. Meaning - the moments between the characters are slowed down with the writing showing real time feelings and emotions to every beat of the conversation/moment. Like playing back a video feed of something at half the speed so you can catch all the minor details.

Author KelseyO nails this style and its just sweet romantic moments of Vi and Caitlyn connecting and falling for one another in the eye of the hurricane moments of immediate post canon Season 1. I mean, some rough stuff goes down, but the love thats rapidly developing between these two is *chefs kiss*. I appreciate at the same time the raw nitty gritty of the author's post canon take!

Take a look, you won't be disappointed.

Why this fic:

This is a real head scratcher to me as to why this fic has so few Kudos - it got its hooks into me fast and I could not wait til the next chapter.

Caitlyn gets kidnapped and we follow Vi's perspective - it ends up being a bit of a whodunnit mixed with some romantic pining. The plot move and keeps you on your toes - brillantly plotted and skillfully executed!

One of my favorite canon universe fics NOT having to do with Arcane Season 1 immediate aftermath.

One last thing - I have various degrees of feelings towards Jinx in fanfic depending on how she is portrayed - in this fic I actually like Jinx which is like - HIGHEST praise in my book.

Why this fic:

Ok so this fic basically breaks like tons of unwritten rules for me in terms of fics I typically like. It's super short (are you still reading this? just go read the fic already its so short and quick) AND its basically just a complete play on a scene from another fandom unrelated to CaitVi.

But.

The.

Execution.

It's really perfect. It's like a two bite appetizer dish at restaurant that has a line out the door. This ain't no steak dinner but this is a FANCY restaurant ya'll and SunsetSharkBite delivers. I smashed bookmark while laughing my ass off. One more thought - I have a soft place in my heart for scenes with Sheriff Cait and Deputy Vi. This fic has it all. ❤

Why this fic:

Look I am a red blooded WLW so I have a healthy rotation of E for Explicit smutting PWP fic on the read later list mmmmkay? Although I tend not to put these on the bookmark list because let’s be honest, it’s not usually high quality moving writing that is the main draw of these types of reads.

But Piltie Pet has some real meat to it - some real depth is given to Caitlyn and Vi in this fic and it addresses the not easy topic of power dynamics between the two given their positions in society and the divide between Piltover and Zaun. It’s a real story with real progression and it does all that while also being SEXY AS HELL.

I openly gasped at one point during my first read of this fic not because of explicit smut because of the sexiness of a unexpected cut off of a ramping up sexy moment.

And look - if you have been paying any attention to CaitVi fic this side of rated M you’ve been running into the Praise Kink tag because our collective fandom energy has CORRECTLY assessed there is somethin a foot between these two characters that is palpable. Listen - one of these two is calling the other Good Girl in a sexual context and that is just fact okay? Just accept it. With that said - guess what fic does it better than any other I’ve read? Caitlyn sighed in frustration and then hissed in pain, finding herself angry. At herself, the light, the constant noise of explosions, Vi’s uneven breathing, the tension in the air, herself again. Not even a minute ago she had it all and now she was jailed in the squeaky bed under the watchful gaze of a woman she wanted but was uncomfortable with her affection. Seeing Vi by her side was a sight for sore eyes, but also somewhat annoying. So confident and cocky, the red-haired varmint smirked lightly as if trying to test the waters, but her grin disappeared when met with Caitlyn’s serious gaze. It wasn't the right time for smiling.

Why this fic:

This is a another quick one-shot fic, post season 1. 

Sensing a pattern here? Yep - its those well written emotionally intimate scenes with Caitlyn and Vi that get my motor humming. And when Vi ‘chooses’ Caitlyn - well my heart goes a flutter what can I say. 

I bow down to the fic writers who can capture that special spark between these two thats kind of that trite ‘love at first sight’ but for us CaitVi shippers we know its deeper and more meaningful than that.

This one pairs beautifully with a smart and skillful intimacy scene - I won’t call it smut because in this fic its just too damn beautiful to be reduced to that.

This is the author's only fic in the Arcane fandom. Perhaps she will grace us with more in the future? Perhaps a few more kudos on this fic could be persuasive?

Welp I am now officially OBSESSED with Caitlyn & Vi from Arcane: League of Legends and have been gobblin up them fics like candy. And really I can’t help but gush about the fanfic I’ve been reading and want to put the authors in the spotlight for their excellent works. Sooooooo: Introducing CaitVi Fic Rec Friday! Every Friday I’m going to post a fic rec from the CaitVi fandom from my Ao3 Bookmarks list :) See notes about my Bookmarks list below the cut: 

Okay so I read alot of fic - love to leave kudos and comments, but I’m quite selective of what goes on my bookmarks list. The bookmarks list for me = this fic is so good I will actually read it again at some point.  I’m one of those people IRL who rarely watches a movie twice, it has to be just exceptionally good and stick with me. Same goes for my fic reading. So unlike your usual fic rec list I am not just saying ‘Hey this is good’ - I am saying ‘HEY THIS IS THE SHIT RIGHT HERE’

Disclaimer: Obviously we all have different tastes and this rec list will reflect mine (duh). But some general logic behind what ends up on it:

I usually wait until a fic is complete before bookmarking. If I bookmark a fic that is still in progress and I’m subscribed to, it’s going to have to be EXCEPTIONALLY good that I know before its complete I will be reading it all over again once its done.

I tend to bookmark longer/meatier fics. Meaning if its a one-shot it’s prob 3k-5k words or more, I just tend not to read shorter one-shots. If its a multi-chapter you can probably expect chapter word counts to also be at least 3k-5k words. 

Listen, I read some explicit fics mmmkay? I ain’t shying from smut. But for my bookmarks you won’t really find just pure smut without plot. That being said, there are def some fics on the list rated M or E. ;)

CaitVI fandom specifics:

I like season 1 post canon fics

I like AU fics

I’m not into Episode 8 ‘should have kissed/hooked up in the bedroom’ fics. Sorry. There are just so many my eyes glaze over when I see them in the feed.

Not into pre-canon AUs (i.e. what if CaitVi met as kids in the canon universe?).
