a fun thing the books wil sadly never explore in ASC (both because of it being so out of the focus of this arc plus how the Erin's probably forgot this family relation too) is how both Berryheart and Cloverfoot are deputies now. For those unaware, they are littermates, kits of Snowbird (and Scorchfur through weird retcons) and their other littermate is Buster, previously Rippletail of ShadowClan, who bailed after the fiasco of The Kin to become a kittypet.
It could be fun to think about what Cloverfoot thinks of all this mess Berryheart caused because that's still her littermate. She and Berryheart have the same position now, but in rival clans and Berry probably still resents Tigerstar a lot and RiverClan resents ShadowClan a lot, so tensions are definitely present.
A more focused approach on the Snowkin during ASC could be really interesting actually.
Snowbird is shown to be a member of Berryheart's group. Scorchfur probably too, but I don't have immediate access to the books to confirm it. So is Yarrowleaf, a kit of Snowbird's second litter and whose littermates either died as a kit (Bluebellkit) or were murdered by Darktail (Beenose).
Two kits of Snowbird's last litter also died right in the previous arc (Conefoot and Frondwhisker), leaving Gullswoop as the last member of that litter, that was born while the kin ruled ShadowClan. And Gullswoop also shows, although in a lighter form, this xenophobia towards Blazefire.
Berryheart obviously lost her first daughter to Darktail directly and also nearly died herself and rejoined ShadowClan with her new litter of kits. Yarrowleaf had a horrendous experience carrying the kits of Nettle and being rejected from SkyClan and the whole Sleekwhisker debacle.
All of them had bad experiences with the kin (Buster even left ShadowClan because of it) and while it doesn't excuse the extremism Berryheart's group has reached, there is something interesting that could be gotten out of this family and how they cope with the trauma of AVOS and TBC, both having made them suffer losses in their family and how this could have made them perceive everything that has happened around them since.
Sunbeam also fits nicely into this as a cat born outside of the trauma of the kin. She was born in a barn far away and only joined ShadowClan again once they were safe. She doesn't know what Berryheart went through and a more compassionate and deeper analysis of this family's relationship to the events of the kin could be fascinating. Alas I have too many projects to manage on my own already, but maybe this can inspire someone to also think about this family a bit and the dynamics that are left very unexplored in the books.

Scorchfur! He has gotten more attention recently because people started to realize that being named Cloverfoot Berryheart and Buster(Rippletail)'s father means that he was mates with Snowbird as an apprentice, which while being funny at least, I'm pretty sure was just an accident with the Erins not paying more attention to the timeline. His first appearance is in Eclipse, during the battle of the eclipse when Hollypaw brings Shadowclan cats to aid Thunderclan in the battle he and his mentor Snaketail jump in beside her, The same battle in which Snowfur stays behind in the nursury with Tawnypelt's kits. He tends to be a hothead in his early days, quick to end disputes with claws, he jumps into a boarder skirmish with his mentor against lionblaze, while the rest of the patrol remains with their claws sheathed in long shadows, and during the final battle though he is injured severely he tries to jump back into battle while Littlecloud treats his wounds, saying 'I'll fight to the death if I have to."
Scorchfur is actually an interesting guy, since he’s almost like the B-list Actor version of a warriors character in A Vision of Shadows, with more on the page than your average cat but very specifically lacks the autonomy and notoriety that most main characters, or clan leadership gets. And this is true of many characters in that arc, I was going to summarize all the things he did but it ended up being a lot and I was starting to feel like I was yelling in font of a conspiracy board of why didn’t I notice that this guy existed when I read these books, he should have been as memorable as Brightheart or Mudclaw but he just wasn’t for me. And I think it’s because the narrative itself doesn’t treat him like a noteworthy individual, he represents shadowclan, not his opinion, and when he speaks characters reply to him as if he’s one of an entity of shadowclan cats who don’t like leaders and not as Scorchfur. This is true for all of shadowclan at the time, Spikefur, Ratscar, Snowbird, Grassheart all have speaking lines and opinions, but they’re treated like a personless group instead of individuals.
Anyway list of things he did During AVOS include: Distrust Violetpaw for being non-clanborn yet defends her in front of Onestar, be extremely critical of Rowanstar and eventually Crowfrost for the sickness in shadowclan and rogues hunting on their land, be extremely distraught over Snowbird catching the incurable yellowcough, come up with the idea to use Twigpaw as a hostage to try to convince Windclan to give them Lungwort, Tell Rowanstar that he can forget about coming back from a gathering because the clan wasn’t participating with clans that abandoned them and Rowanstar was too weak to lead them signalling the entrance of Darktail and the Kin, Jump first into the battle against Riverclan starting the fight, argue with Darktail about feeding their prisoners and almost loses his standing (and ability to protect/ feed his family) over it, Help puddleshine cure cats instead of fight during the liberation of Riverclan, Feel immediately dissappointed again by Rowanstar’s indecision in the six toed cat prophecy and throw claws with tawnypelt about it, argue with Rowanstar/Puddleshine about annexing with Skyclan because the clan wasn’t consulted or warned and only decides to comply for the warrior code of it all, lives peacefully in Skyclan until Leafstar refuses to allow his pregnant daughter to return igniting what will become a grudge, conspires to hide her in the old shadowclan camp until she is discovered and allowed to stay, assists Juniperclaw alongside his mate in Junipers attempt to poison skyclan by distracting the clan destroying dens, Is not included in the blame for that event (not even mentioned at all!) and in fact escorts juniper to captivity and guards the den, cheers for his daughter Cloverfoot when she is elected Deputy.
Many characters accuse him for wanting power but He Doesn’t, he just thinks everyone else is doing it wrong until Tigerheart and Juniperclaw Cloverfoot are elected. In the next arc his spirituality is defined as being dogmatic and easily swayed by the atonement narrative, partly because he’s led to believe an injury he sustains that also kills his clanmate is a sign that they must atone. Once that’s clarified as being false he is supportive to the rebellion agains the imposter. In the Starless clan arc he is still a warrior, and has been seen doing warrior things (he was on the patrol to riverclan in sky to retrieve catmint) but otherwise has taken a back seat.

I know this is a writing mistake but why don't people talk about this?

I feel so bad for Scorchpaw, he got his warrior name when his kits were getting their apprentice name, wouldn't this count as SA if considered canon?

The Snowbird-Scorchfur age inconsistency thing certainly exists :( Here's what I'm thinking to combat it in my pseudo-au; Ratscar and Snowbird were born in different litters. Ratscar's birth is pushed back to the end of TPB, so he can be an elder by the time of Rowanstar's leadership and serve throughout Blackstar.
(also, Snowbird somehow served under Blackstar but Ratscar didn't?? not to mention Snowbird somehow isn't an elder?!?!)
Snowbird's birth is being moved to somewhere in TNP, so by the time of PoT, she can be an apprentice. This would make her around the same as Scorchfur. This would also make it so that Snowpaw and Scorchpaw had a litter as, yk, apprentices. I would age Scorchfur up, but he actually plays a role in Rowanstar's leadership in canon, mainly criticizing him, so yeah. Kinda need him to be as old as he is, because he'll also be a Kin advocator in my AU.
So, I was thinking that Snowbird has postpartum psychosis as a result of giving birth as an apprentice. The cats can refer to it as Queen-Isolation, not as an official name, but as a "treatment" name. Probably will elaborate on this later. I'm planning to give it to a few other cats, so it wouldn't be just a one-time thing, but something seriously dangerous, and the cats understand this. Snowbird gets treated pretty early, but it permanently fucks with her personality. I should mention that Scorchfur is a bit violent here. He's blinded in one eye from a battle fought as an apprentice before he joined the Clans, and as one of the results, the eyelid is permanently drooping (similar to ptosis, and yes cats can have ptosis) and reddish. Snowbird is going to be very outgoing and outspoken about her opinions since she's kinda like that in the books unless I'm confusing her with Gullswoop, but something about Snowbird is just… off. It's like talking to a potential murderer and your gut is just screaming at you, but hey they seem nice enough! Snowbird is mindless until she isn't... if that makes sense. The lights are on but somebody IS home, they just aren't doing anything Like, she's very attentive in conversation, chiming in with her own thoughts, and doing her best to be a warrior for ShadowClan. Very typical, but something just isn't right is what I'm trying to say. I might have overexplained this bit. Anyway, Since Snowbird would be giving birth in the same book Scorchpaw showed up in canon (Eclipse), there is plenty of room for her other kits to be born since Berry, Clover, and Ripple would be born in PoT, and there's like two arcs between that and ASC (excluding DOTC), technically three arcs between PoT and CS since ASC finished up. And there's even MORE time for everyone to grow up since 15-ish books happen between Hollyleaf's Story and The Apprentice's Quest. The timeline here is still very rough, but yeah this is like an outline.
#i love this headcanon and you can take it from my cold dead hands#would the erins ever think of this?#probably not#but that's why I'm here#to shoot the most random things into the digital world#i had more to say but i have more thoughts on other topics and this post was getting long enough#Snowbird and Scorchfur do not have the healthiest relationship here#i should elaborate on that in a different post#But anyway Snowbird does not have a good relationship with Cloverfoot Berryheart and Rippletail either#it's not as bad as it could be but it's not the best either#Snowbird kind of throws Berryheart under the bus at one point in The Kin#later litters it gets better. she engages more with them#and yes I'm keeping all of the Scorchbird children because that's just stupidly funny to me#Beenose and Yarrowleaf will no longer be Scorchbird children#they'll be replaced with different cats#Beenose because she has a better purpose now in this AU that doesn't involve dying without a word#and Yarrowleaf because the fact that she's GINGER in a MONOCHROMATIC family pisses me off#to an irrational degree. it's actually why I don't like Yarrowleaf lmao#it has nothing to do with her character#also Cloverfoot and Rippletail's names are getting changed. Rippletail also doesn't become a kittypet#I actually like Cloverfoot's name and might use it for a different character#but it just doesn't suit the character i'm imagining for her here#I NEARLY FORGOT THE ACTUAL TAGS HOLY FUCK#snowbird wc#warrior cats#warrior cats au#scorchfur#there we go :D#also Bluebellkit lives because I refuse to let a prefix that cool go to waste#“this post is too long” I say as I continue to make the tags longer than the actual post

Why does Mudclaw have a connection to Sedgewhisker and if it's because she has powers then does that mean all of the PO12 have ghost cat buddies?
Specifically the "later additions" to the 12, aka Dovewing, Scorchfur, Sedgewhisker, and Larkfeather (Lark that Sings at Dawn) have a ghost cat buddy. These particular spirit cat guides are cats who weren't fulfilled in their past life and were chosen from their recent death to step up and guide these young ones to the older cats (aka - Jayfeather, Dawnpelt, Heathertail, Minnowtail, etc.)
Dovewing has Cinderpelt, which is my way of allowing her """reincarnation""" thing without actual reincarnation because I didn't really enjoy how it was done with Cinderheart in the books. Cinderpelt allows Dovewing to see great distances beyond what is in front of her, just as she can in the books. Dovewing's eyes turn blue when she uses her power, the same blue of Cinderpelt's eyes.
Scorchfur has Blackstar, who was killed in the battle between the clans that happened between Sunset and The Sight (take the Eclipse battle and move it here essentially). He wants to repent and do more to help the clans after all of the crimes that he helped carry out in his living life, hence him stepping up. He gives Scorchfur the power to know what cats have been in The Dark Forest the previous night, a rancid stench coming off of them. When Scorchfur uses his power and scents a Dark Forest Cat, his eyes turn a bright amber, the same amber of Blackstar's eyes.
Sedgewhisker has Mudclaw, who was killed in the WindClan civil war just as he was in the books. He feels immense guilt for how he harmed his clan and wishes to save them now more than ever. We get that first hint of him actually in my initial Po12 fanfic where he warns Harepaw, but his duty doesn't come until Sedgekit is born. He gives Sedgewhisker the ability to speak in the minds of all those "blessed", so all cats gifted with powers, no matter where she is. She can be all the way in SkyClan's gorge and chat with Jayfeather in his head, but not Hollyleaf as she doesn't have powers. When using this power, her eyes turn amber, the same amber of Mudclaw's eyes.
Larkfeather, who used to be knows as Lark that Sings at Dawn, came to RiverClan after her own power guided her. When Larkfeather wants to go somewhere, she knows exactly how to get there, regardless of if she's ever been. She has Feathertail as her guardian, the she-cat wanting to help RiverClan and her friends one last time after her life was cut short. Larkfeather sees an aurora path that leads her to her destination, and is how she finds RiverClan despite being just a 6 moon old cat traveling from the mountains without ever visiting the lake before. When this power is activated, Larkfeather's eyes turn a bright blue, the same blue of Feathertail's eyes. (Fun Fact - she chooses the nam Larkfeather specifically after Feathertail)
Grabbing this image again as I think it's fitting.
