These male emperor penguins (Aptenodytes forsteri) at the Dawson-Lambton Glacier are sheltering three-week-old chicks against the cold by holding them on their feet and covering them with a skin fold. Emperors are the only penguins to breed in Antarctica over winter.

18 sept '23 — currently reading one of my most anticipated releases of the year: rouge by mona awad (so far so good), watching stranger things for the first time and i'm in LOVE (i'm a huge sci-fi fan so i'm not sure why it's taken me so long to get to this??), and visiting art galleries ❤️

Cyberweek Day 2: Science
"A couple of weeks ago Coop and I went to the library and got myself a card. I checked out four books, one of them about astronomy. I always liked looking at the stars and moon, and needed a hobby to remind myself that I am still a person outside of being a Guardian. It's now Jan. 22, I haven't read the book yet and I have 9 days left to return it. Perhaps I should renew so I can give myself more time. Coop offered to buy some binoculars too but I told him he needed to save the money for the garage. Besides I can pay for one myself. Tonight we're going to go through the book together. He's so kind. - Pix."

A recent study in Nature Communications suggests that by 24 months, signs of heightened immune activity in most long-COVID patients will have returned to normal levels. Pictured above is a composite colored scanning electron micrograph of immune cells—including a single macrophage, two dendritic cells, and numerous white blood cells—involved in a cytokine storm, a life-threatening immune disorder. Cytokines are important for normal immune response, but when too many are released simultaneously it can be harmful.

just,, I think we all fall victim to the constant-distraction-through-media mindset and to a point that's become very normal and almost unavoidable but! I am writing a paper about the development of time perception in children and I think it was very eye opening to read that constant distraction is basically the same thing as throwing away time. The less you pay attention to details, to little things, to changing colours of the sky, the faster time passes for you. The reason time passed so slowly in our childhood is because we experienced so many things for the first time and we paid much more attention to that. And as I said, I think it's very much a societal issue because being stressed, too stuck in routines, and too much digital time literally means we experience days much shorter than they really are. x
Aside from that, I just reread Momo by Michael Ende which was one of my favourite books growing up and absolutely ahead of its time. It's exactly about that capitalistic structure that steals our time and makes life miserable. At one point it says "time thieves make you sick and that sickness can't be cured" and. yeah. I think that's it.
So yea,,, tldr I just think we should look at the sky more often.
