Just got back from a trip to Sauder Village in Ohio. It's a living museum that features homes and businesses of the past. I was fascinated by the woodshops, especially the old lathes.

[Video shows a docent using a foot powered lathe and a gouge to round over a piece of turning stock to make a chair leg]

The foot powered lathe is my new favorite thing. I immediately told Mr Eagle we need one. This sounds exhausting, I can't imagine how difficult it was to make precise things. I will never see the speed dial on my lathe the same.

This lathe was on a belt drive with a gas engine and was from the woodshop of Erie Sauder (the Sauder Furniture family)

And just for fun, an old band saw from 1895

Wildly enough, not a lot has changed in the way any of these tools work. My lathe and band saw look remarkably similar in style, just new materials and electric motors.

Not believing everything Nate Saunders says as true simply because he previously was close to Daniel’s camp, but at this point, what would the point of making things up when it’s been months of silence from Daniel, which is the biggest indication he’s probably never coming back to f1 in any shape or form.

Some very minor updates about Caution Tape's repairs under the cut but LOOOOK LOOK LOOK WHAT I FOUND FOR HIM

I THOUGHT I THREW THIS AWAY. IT MATCHES HIM.

Anyways...

So some tiny progress on Caution Tape has been made. Debated the entire day (for some reason) whether or not to use this spare toothbrush to scrub the corrosion from his contacts a bit more. I've gotten most of it, but not all of it. Contacts are clean of the battery acid but they still look rusted. Despite that I thought I cleaned it enough to try and put batteries in him and... nothing. Oh yeah, I tried to shove a bunch of gum wrapper where his spring used to be thinking that would be enough to suffice but no. Saw someone say tin foil worked or just a spring from a ballpoint with some stretching so I can try that. Ideally would want to sauder the spring on him, but I have no access to a saudering gun. But before any of that I saw a few methods I could try that I want to look into tomorrow.

TL;DR: Couldn't get him to turn on. His contacts might be cooked for good but I don't want to give up just yet.

Sheet metal guy again I went to the hardware store and bought some shit

+hammer +blow torch and sauder +5 pack of 3x3 ft thin steel plates wrapped in clear plastic with the sticker still on it +duck tape +pack of wood floor planks in a cardboard box +box of nails

Don't worry about the cost I had coupons it was less than 100 👍no fuckin clue if any of this will do anything- I just bought whatever looked vaguely potentially useful

Wow uhhh Thank you ??? These look like they could work for my shield but even if it doesn’t fix the durability this is all pretty useful just in general.

Raymond puts the metal sheets and planks against the wall and the rest of the stuff in a chest for now.

“What is all this?” Evbo questions as he gets up from the couch to look at the items.

“Someone gave me stuff to fix my shield with if I get too low” Raymond responds nonchalantly like that’s common knowledge when he knows very well that it’s not.

“You can do that???” Evbo asks, eyes wide as he stares at the other.

“Maybe, hopefully. I’ve only done it a few times—“

“YOU’VE DONE IT BEFORE??? Raymond, this is a crazy thing to know why did you never mention it??? Oh my god…” Evbo paces around the room and Raymond chuckles slightly. Now that he thinks about it, maybe this is a little crazy to know in a civilization where your durability is your life. Maybe he is a little dumb for not telling Evbo before. “Do you think you could fix swords too??”

“I don’t know�� It definitely has to be the same material so just iron swords with this.” Raymond points at the sheets of metal by the wall. “If I can at all. But I’ve never tried it…”

Tera’s in the workshop, handling a sauder, trying to fix a busted capacitor in her pistol for the inth time, Uzi is next to her, messing with a salvaged laptop from ruins in hopes of bringing it back to working order. A metallic glint around Tera's neck catches Uzi's attention.

"What's that?" She asks, looking up from her work, which causes Tera to lose focus and burn the tip of her finger. "Agh!"

"Huh? Oh." The ring is hanging by a chain around her neck. "I didn't want to damage it and I'm always working with my hands so..."

"When did you get a ring? That looks like a-

"Engagement ring, yeah...."

"Kiara."

"Pffft..."

"Don't you start!"

Meanwhile...

Kiara is working with her mom, taking care of the sick or injured drones in the clinic, mostly, she's on nursing duty, fetching oil or medical tools.

"What a beautiful ring young lady." One of the patients points out the ring on her finger and she laughs. "Oh! Thank you! My best freind gave it to me."

"Oh, I married my best freind too! How sweet!" The lady smiles, and Kiara feels herself genuinely stop breathing for a moment.

"O-oh! It's not like..." She trails off when the woman coughs. "Um... let me get you some oil..."
