Ugh, this is the WORST. I’m so sorry, bb! 

A lot of times internet providers monopolize certain markets because they’re the only ones who get service in an area. Comcast is literally the only option in my neighborhood. 

Sometimes you can get a discount if you bundle the internet with your phone bill, cable, or satellite dish. But if you’re having trouble paying for one, then you certainly shouldn’t have cable or satellite. 

One option is to get a super cheap phone provider such as Republic Wireless and then use your phone as a wifi hotspot within your house, canceling your internet provider. But that might not be the most efficient. Another option is to cut your internet provider entirely and go to the library or somewhere else close by that has free wifi whenever you need to go online. But that’s REALLY inefficient given how much we all rely on the internet. 

Anybody in Bitch Nation have a practical solution for our baby here?

Fallback – Alternative platform for real-time news during Internet shutdowns

Created by Khulood Alawadi, Yi-fan Hsieh, Bahareh Saboktakin and Qifan Zhao at the RCA (Design Engineering, Future Interaction, 2019), 'Fallback' is an alternative platform for providing access to real-time news during times of Internet shutdown.
Fallback is triggered by powerful forecasting algorithms providing a backup right when it is needed. 

The prediction is done by trend analysis of the appearance frequency of certain keywords in the online world. Upon a high-risk prediction, the system scrapes headlines and articles from news platforms, encrypt it, and send it over satellite to the Portal devices (Raspberry Pi Zero W with E-ink Module). Portal receives data over satellite, decrypts it, formats it into news articles, and provides its own WiFi access point where no Internet is required. Users connect to the Portal device using any Wi-Fi enabled device via Fallback hotspot. The transmission will continue until the Internet shutdown is over or the risk levels decrease.
