CBS Ghost’s: Why do they all have to be paired into couples now.
Hello Again. So on whole I really like cbs ghosts, but I have noticed with a lot of the episodes in season 2 my opinion of most epsidoes has been that they are a mixed bag. If the A plot is good the B blot won’t be, if the B plot is good then the A plot will just be awful. C plots are never more than maybe’s. I have been going over what parts of episodes I like and what parts  dislike and one of the parts I have decided I really don’t like is the sudden push to pair all of the ghosts up into couples.
The house residents are all a found family, that been true since the beginning. But in season one their kinship is kinda “island of misfits”. When you look into the ghost’s pasts you see that none of them really had that great of family’s to began with. Hetty, Pete, and Alberta all had unhappy relationships where their significant others cheated, and in Hetty and Alberta’s cases were also total crooks. Trevor and Thor were abandoned by their closest friends. Issac, in addition to being in a marriage he could never fully be happy in, he’s also implied to have been the butt-monkey of his social group so to speak. Flower was stuck in multiple cults/communes that drugged her and wouldn’t let her speak to outsiders. But now in death they all have each other, and even if they are often arguing, even if the property border forces them all to stay together,  even though they were all trapped in a pergatiory they all wished to someday leave.. at least they all had each other for comrades/shipmates/bro’s. And maybe when you think about it that was more than they had when they were alive....
All that was fine and well. But why in season 2 do they keep trying to pair and push everybody into couples? Why is that suddenly so needed, and such a big focus? What makes this worse is that while the rivalries (which no longer getting the attention they deserve) were funny, and the friendships (also not getting enough spotlight anymore) where cute/sweet, A lot of these romances are really bland, boring, and seem slapped to together just because these two weren’t in a couple already.
I mean let’s go over the couples
Sam&Jay: Our resident livings. Honestly these two are adorable together, and might eventually join my top 5 favorite sit-come couples list (The list is currently Moritcia&Gomez, Chandler&Monica, Red&Kitty, Hall&Lois...). What I love most abut these two is that they are both such quarkie individuals but because of their different quarks they are able to take turns being the sane one and, not necissarly grounding each other, but giving advice to the other on how to navigate what weird things happen. In just writing this I realize they are kinda like a sit-come, modern day, version of Fry&Leela who are in my opinion one of the best cartoon couples. But this is supposed to be about Sam&Jay. I like Sam&Jay. They’re crazy but they work
Pete&Alberta: This is the other couple I really like, and I am sad that their development was largely pushed to the side/just plane stopped in season 2. The show writers said they wanted them to be a slow burn, because they were not sure if Pete was really Alberta’s type. But then looking at Pete and Alberta’s past (Pete’s cheating wife, Alberta’s two-timing bootleg boyfriend, and the mob guy she also dated) the pair both had picked the wrong type of people when alive. Pete see’s Alberta for the amazing and deserving person she is. Alberta encourages Pete to take some risks and act with some gumption, while also being one of the only ghosts to respect Pete for being such a nice guy. Can the show back off or take a break with some of the lamer couples below to focus on these two.
Issac&Nigel: The Gay couple. I already know I am going to get crap for saying I am not crazy about them this season. Please hear me out before you flame. I liked them in season 1. Their awkwardness together was cute. I liked that Nigel never tried to push Issac, and I was really happy When Issac admitted to both Nigel and the other ghost (who already knew of course) that he liked Nigel. If you find my ranking list I put Nigel kinda low, but that was because we didn’t see him enough to really get to know him. That was one of the things I was excited for in season 2. Halfway through the season its been a disappointment. Nigel seems to have no personality. Because of this he and Issac cannot develop any fun banter or an interesting raptor;personality wise they are just to unbalanced. In addition there is no real build to their relationship. Like according to the Christmas episode it took 10 episodes for Issac to be comfortable kissing Nigel, but before that their was not mention of Issac having any hesitation in that part. In episode 2x01we learn Nigel like watching ants (do nothing). Okay so is Nigel into Anthropology? Cool that’s something to his character. Can I see more of him getting excited to show Issac different bugs? Issac likes musical theater right? So  have him pester Sam to put on a video of a play (something that’s not Hamilton) for him to show Nigel on a date. How are things between the pair and Jenkins? I do not want them to break up, but please show do better by them.
Thor&Flower: I have seen a lot of posts by people saying that they aren’t crazy about this pair. I agree, I don’t ship them. I didn’t like Flower much in season 1, she seemed like she was just a generic Hippy. Her and Thor possibly becoming a couple once she got comfortable with monogamy (weird didn’t Thor also talk a bunch about viking origi’s in season1 ) seemed like grasping at straws for something to do with both characters in season 2. I did not think Thor needed a love interest then: He had great friendships with Sam, Sass, Hetty, and now in season 2 we are getting more of his friendship with Issac and him trying to be a father to Bjorn. Flower’‘s development in season 2 has been awesome as well. We have seen more of Protester Flower, learned more about what the cult’s cost her, her relationships with her brothers (writers have apparently already been looking into older actors to play one of Flowers brothers should he decide to visit the B&B). We have gotten more on her friendship with Alberta, and her helping Hetty learn to embrace feelings of pleasure (best story arch of the season)... Thor and Flower is a forced ship that neither character needs to be interesting. Just drop it.
Hetty&Trevor: I did not see that coming. I really didn’t. I saw a post that tweeted Hetty maybe having a romance  this season. I figured maybe it would be with one of Nigel’s two friends (We don’t know Baxter’s sexuality and Jenkins could be bi). I was literally like Pete likes Alberta, Issac is gay, Thor would be to weird since he was basically her nanny as a child, I cannot imagine her or Sass being the slightest bit interested in each other, and of course she cannot stand Trevor... Yet here we are. I am just fine with these two hooking up, but that is it. If they became a couple, then knowing this show, they would start getting along. I like them being frenemies, They are funny frenemies.
Sass&car-ghost girl: Sass was the last one left. His one sided crush on Chiki went no where and could never be, and now they have brought This new car-ghost girl in and made it jump-out-and-hit-you-in-the-face clear that Sass is smitten with her at first sight... Sass is my second favorite ghost (Alberta is my favorite) and I think he is the funniest one. But the way the actor play’s Sass: mostly apathetic, with a dry wit humor.. yeah that doesn’t translate well when he tries to be caring or romantic. Sass is a good story teller, and a fun Bro, but he is not really a romantic guy, and I am honestly wishing the writers had gone the fan theory route of making him Ace.
Judy Farnsby & Bjorn: I actually really like the idea of these two being together. Give me more of Judy showing up behind her son and his wife and calling them both terrible disappointment’s, only now have Bjorn show up with her and talking as if he is Farnsby’s stepfather.

The Ghosts as Superheroes
Sasappis aka “The Sassy Dreamer” - His power is telepathy and controlling people’s dreams. The Dreamer was the superhero name he had given himself, but people started to call him “Sassy Dreamer” due to his sarcasm and dark humor.
Pete Martino aka “Teleo Trooper” - His power is teleportation, giving him the ability to teleport to places with ease. He given himself the name “Teleo Trooper” for his power and his occupation, a Girl Scout Troop leader.
Alberta Haynes aka “Sonic Jazz” - Her power is sonic scream and her voice can be heard from a 1000 miles radius. Her most iconic use of her ability is singing to slow down or push away criminals. Jazz is her favorite music, hence why jazz is in her name.
Susan Montero aka “The Flower” - Her power is empathy which means she can feel and influence people’s emotions. Her most iconic use of her ability is making people go into a drugged-like state. Sometimes her ability goes both ways and she gets affected as well as the victim if she uses too much.
Thorfinn aka “The Squirrel Viking” - His power is electrokinesis, and he can control lighting and electricity. He gave himself the name “The Viking” but someone said the Squirrel Viking since he has a pet squirrel named Oskar (*cough cough* Sassappis), and since then the name stuck.
Isaac Higgintoot aka “The Revolutionary Historian” - His power is time travel and controlling time. He’s called the Historian for his love of history, specifically the American Revolution.
Hetty Woodstone aka “The Lady of the House” - Her power is mind control and make people do what she wants and desires. “The Lady of the House” is her given superhero name to show that she means business and never play by her.
Trevor Lefkowitz aka “The Banker Bro - His power is krpakinesis, which means cloth manipulation. He can create, shape and manipulate clothes of any material (cotton, plastic, leather, wool, etc.) or any flexible material consisting of natural or artificial fibers. He gave himself the name “The Banker Bro” because he wanted to be one.

I feel like the Ghosts (us) should have the Ghosts refer to all ghost things with Lenape words because sassappis would be the first to describe them and then teach the others.

It’s the first Thursday night of 2022, so you know what that means! A new episode of CBS Ghosts. Let’s see what “Sam’s Mom” has in store for us.
- Sam is going to Ohio to see if her dead mom is a ghost. She died six years ago at a restaurant from her shellfish allergy. Now THIS is a Ghosts plot I’m excited about. Samantha is using the opportunities of her ghost-seeing gift in a cool way that furthers her own backstory. I don’t think Alison has done anything like this yet.
- “What up, Arrow Guy?” I like these little touches of Jay remembering, acknowledging, and interacting with the ghosts, even if he needs Sam to let him know when they’re around.
- Pete has a crush on Alberta and wants to tell her. He didn’t say anything in the years before, though, because his wife was still alive. I feel like we should have had more build up or hints to this. This kind of feels like it’s coming out of no where. However, I don’t dislike it.
I DO dislike Pete casually calling his wife a “dirty, lying cheater.” It just feels too harsh.
- The restaurant that Sam’s mom died at is called Mojitown. So silly. I also laughed at Jay’s first observation upon entering the restaurant: “Mojitos are Cuban, the menu is Mexican, and that cheeseburger on the wall is playing the ukulele, which is Hawaiian. This place is all over the map.” It connects to his being a chef and it’s super funny.
- Aw, now this is the Jay I want to see: supportive of his wife and reminding her of her accomplishments. At nearly every point in the episode, he’s being so nice to Sam, which feels like a change from how he was characterized in previous episodes. This change is, of course, very welcome.
- It looks like the ghosts’ clubs and group discussions basically died down after the ghosts started watching TV. It even leads to Sassappis blurting out the info on Pete’s crush just to change the subject from Pete’s Meatballs breakdown. This is kinda funny, but it’s also a little sad. It makes them feel less connected now. I don’t feel like this would be true with the BBC ghosts.
- Sam’s mom is indeed at the restaurant! She has two ghost buddies to chat to: Sondra, who died from ordering and eating the “cheese hurricane” that made her heart explode, and Peggy Sue, who died during the 50s when the restaurant was a drive in. I forgot to note how she died, but she has a gaping bloody hole in her torso.
-Sam’s mom’s ghost power is burping up shrimp breath. I feel the same way about this power as I do about Isaac’s fart smell power: unamused.
-I like how Jay is taking part in the conversation between Sam and her mom based on what Sam is saying. He wants to be a part of it and help his wife. And he has a use in the scene that doesn’t involve separate shenanigans.
- Pete lies that he has a ghost girlfriend from the cholera pit downstairs, so he goes down to “recruit” a girlfriend. One of them (Nancy) volunteers because she’s bored from the pit and wants to do more with her afterlife. I like that we get to see some distinct personalities among this mass of ghosts.
- Awww, Jay is talking to the mom while Sam’s away to try and get her to be easier on Sam. I like this side of him!
- Oof. According to Nancy, the cholera pit was harsh. She got sick, was thrown in the “recovery ward”, and then they nailed the door shut.
-The Cheese Hurricane is an appetizer platter for SIX? Jay, why did you eat all of it yourself?? Sam, why didn’t you discourage Jay? You heard the ghost say she died of it!
- The mom ghost lies and pretends to forgive her daughter to try and ascend. This makes me realize I’d be both interested and not interested in seeing these kinds of plots happen in the BBC show. While “trying to pass on” stories can be cool, I feel like I wouldn’t enjoy them if they end in failure. In this episode, it ends in success, so I feel satisfied and my heart has been warmed. But I have the feeling that if the BBC show had “trying to pass on” plots and they didn’t bring in new ghosts to pass on, these plots would need to happen with the main cast. And of course, they can’t succeed until the finale season.
- Jay’s mom is named Champa Arondekar. She’s very supportive and Jay loves her.
- 50s girl Peggy Sue says that Sam’s mom talks about Sam all the time, and that she’s honestly proud of Sam. That’s why she pushes, she just wants Sam to be happy. And Sam hearing and accepting this is what makes the mom ascend! Aw that’s sweet. It’s a little simple, but for a thirty minute episode, I think it’s paced and executed well enough.
- Aww. In one quiet conversation with Pete, Alberta says that when she was alive, maybe she dated cheats and liars because she thought she didn’t deserve better. Pete says he believes that she does, and Alberta calls him the last honest man. I really like this. It shows that Alberta appreciates Pete’s presence in her afterlife, and I love anything that shows the ghosts like each other. Also, it doesn’t suggest Alberta has feelings for Pete (that could be a platonic statement), so the story can go either way. Honestly, I’d be fine with either a romance or no romance, as long as whatever happens feels in character and it ends with these ghosts being happy.
- Awww! After Sam tells Jay that she’s sad because it feels like she doesn’t have a mom all over again, Hetty comes in the room and chides her on leaving the luggage near the door. As she continues giving her criticism, Sam starts smiling. When Hetty asks her why she’s smiling, Sam answers that she just feels very happy all of a sudden. Now this is what CBS Ghosts needs. More examples of the characters bonding and becoming like family.
And that was Sam’s Mom. It’s definitely one of my favorite episodes so far. This show can never escape American sitcom quirkiness, but it’s at least showing heart. I hope to see more like this in the future!

Things I need in season 2 of CBS ghosts
Jay to be able to interact with the ghosts on some level, without Sam, even if he cannot see them.
Sam to publish at least one more article
You know when Sam and Jay did the attic up into an actual teenagers bedroom for Stephanie? Well I want them to do the same thing for again, only this time they turn the shed into a colonial times British tea room.
I want this to have been Issac’s idea, as a gift for Nigel/peace offering to Baxter and Jenkins
Jay’s mother absolutely must come to stay at the B&B.
It would be cool if Pete’s daughter and grandson came to stay for a couple days as well. Pete deserves to get to know them.
On the other side I want another nut-bag guest. Make this one a conspiracy theorist/ wanna-be paranormal investigator. They stay for a night, and Sam and Jay go crazy trying to convince them there is nothing strange in the house.
We know there are people ghosts on the premise; what about animal ghosts? Can I  pretty please get a ghost crow/raccoon/Oscar-the-squirrel to join the cast.
Tell me more about Hetty’s children. What kind of relationship did she have with them? Does Sam remind her of them at all? Same with Issac, did he and Beatrice ever have any kids? Did Beatrice ever remarry after he died?
Supposedly there is a tree the same age as Sass on the grounds. What if his ghost power is that he can control it’s branches or something like that. That would be cool.
I want Pete and Hetty’s ghost powers too.
More of Pete and Alberta.
Make Flower interesting or have her get sucked off. Right now she is the least fleshed out ghost.
The ghost at Farnsby’s house needs to get sucked off too. I don’t care who she is or what she has done. Spending eternity with those two sounds like a hell I wouldn’t wish on Elias Woodstone, much less anyone else.
Slapstick comedy scenes that involve the Farnsby neighbors getting hurt. (can you tell yet that I do not like them?)
More of Thorfinn with small children.
Do something with Crash
I know we are getting more on Alberta’s murder. I agree with people it was probably her two-timing, boot-leg, boyfriend. I am not sure how you prove that.
 A Pride episode,

My Personal Ranking of the CBS ghosts season 1.
Okay so I gave CBS ghosts a chance about a year ago when I kept seeing the trailer and thought it sounded like a cool idea. Honesty I am big fan. Yes the first 3-4 epsidoes drag some, yes even after it picks up its cliche sometimes. But the show isn’t going for some fantastical, new original, no one has seen before. Its a American reboot of an already existing British comedy (I have not seen BBC, I do not have the streaming service it is on), that’s goal is just have colorful characters, make it’s audience laugh, and have the occasional really deep/sweet moments sprinkled into the comedy. For those goals I would say it succeeds. I laugh at most episodes, and a lot of the sweet moments (Alberta telling Issac about her father, Jay pulling out all the stops to for Sam during their homemade prom) hit. As for the characters I wanted to do a ranking list for them all through season 1, but never got around to it. With season 2 about to start I am telling myself that I cannot watch an episode until I do this. From the bottom up. slight spoilers may be below for anyone who hasn’t finished season 1
12.) Elias Woodstone: I do not like him as a person, or as a villain. I can generally “like a villain as a villain” when they are written to be very good at being bad.But Elias was bad in a way that was not funny, it was disgusting. When he learned what happened to people he walked through, he did it them on purpose. I am glad he is in Hell
11.) Stephanie: The cliche bratty teen, mean girl.I kinda understand why; she died on what was supposed to be this really magical night, and never got to finish growing up. Feeling sorry for her is not the same thing as liking her though. Her needing to sleep 364 days a year also kinda turns the lights out on most stores and development she can receive.
10.) Flower: Flower has felt human to me exactly once. When she talked about Basketball, how she played it a lot as a living and was really knowledgeable about it, but because she is a women who grew up in the 40′s-50′s before dying in the 60′s no one took her talent or knowledge seriously. Other than that one time I have found her completely unfunny, and to just be a collection of every annoying pot-head and stupid hippy cliche I have seen in every other sitcom and cartoon to contain potheads and hippies. I do not blame her actress. Of the main casts of ghosts, Flower and Sass get the least screen time, Maybe with more time the actress and could get more of a handle on flower and make her better. Maybe.
9.) Nigel Chessum: Okay let me make it clear I do not dislike Nigel. I think he and Issac are cute. The reason he is so low is that in season 1 he shows up so little we do not learn anything about him more than “Cute British guy next door”. I fully expect to move him up on this list once we see more of him in season 2.
8.) Nancy: Nancy was in 3-4 episodes last season, with 1-2 minor appearance and 2 bigger ones. I did not like the way she treated Pete in her first big appearance (how she kept embarrassing him and then threatened him). But by the next episode she really grew on me , and I love that her and Pete become real friends once she is able to help him to start standing up for himself. Also I am glad that she has not been forgotten about in season 2. Here’s to hoping she will make no less than 4 appearances this season too.
7.) Pete Martino: Pete is a nice guy, and I don’t mean that as in a “nice guy” (Yet,. Please don’t tun him into one later down the road), I mean that as in he is a genuinely nice guy. I love his bromance with Jay, and I am rooting form him and Alberta to eventually get together... While I like most of his stories I just do not think his whole boy scout schimick is as funny as some of the other characters.
6.) Trevor Lefkowitz: If I say “suit wearing playboy who works a sleazy uper-class wall street type job in NY,but is actually a real bro and a not completely terrible person” am I talking about Trevor or Barney Stinson. Well if I said that “the comedy of them is Legend-wait for it-dairy” I would be talking about Barney Stinson. If I said “You know what? They are kinda cool” I would be talking about Trevor Lefkowitz. Trevor is a pretty funny, kinda cool character. But he is written so much like a Stinson knock-off, and no one is ever gonna top Neil Patrick Harris’s performance as Barney in regards to that particular genera of playboy.
4-5, 4&5?) Hetty Woodstone & Issac Higgentoot: Do not make me chose between these two besties. My opinions on them are largely similar. I think both characters faltered some in the beginning of the show when the writers and actors were not sure completely how to portray them. But that once the characters were understood they hit it out in almost every episode. I also think these two had some of the best exploration/development out of everyone in season 1. I loved watching Hetty re-examine her life and beliefs, and become more of a modern day feminist, while still maintaining the elegance and class from her time. Issac is the first time I have seen a closeted queer character in a sitcom be in control of deciding when they want to publicly express that part of their identity, and up until they decided to them not being ready was written as being a fair reason to wait, that other character respected. It should be portrayed that way every time, but for the sake of drama it isn't. It was nice to see here.
3.) Thorfinn: The big, burly, scared up guy with a questionable past...is actually a big softie and adores small children and animals. This is one Cliche that I absolutely love and am here for. It doesn’t hurt either that Thor is absolutely hilarious. He had to be in my top three.
2.) Sassappis .Sass is in my opinion the funniest ghost out of them all. I love his dry wit and cynical humor, and I have since all the way back in episode 4, when he pretended to be an accountant who died at a Halloween party (and was totally convincing at it for a second). The reason he is second is that he was just criminally absent and underused in season 1. More Sasappis in season 2.
Da da da daa
1.) Alberta Haynes: Can we give a round of applause to Danielle Pinnock? Is it any wonder I put Alberta as the top when this actress has brought A level game to her character since the beginning and with each thing we learn about Alberta, Danielle’s acting has only gone up. Alberta is loud, she is sassy, she is boss, and powerful, You really feel her sadness when talking about how racism kept her father down in his career, and she feels like she let him down because it affected hers as well. You feel for her again when she tells Pete that when alive she always chose bad guys because maybe deep down she thought that she didn’t deserve to be with a good man, and now she thinks she missed every chance.
Alberta killed at season 1 and there is so much they can still do with her in season 2. Give me more backstory, work on solving her murder, work on getting her and Pete together (they are a slow burn right?), with her connection to Alexa put her in charge of music stations at the B&B, she would be good at it.
That’s my feelings on the Ghosts for season 1. IF you want my feelings on the livings. Farnsby neighbors are annoying. the construction guy Mark is alright. I like Jay as a main better than Sam, because he has more of a range of emotions happy/sad/excited/concerned/mad, while Sam’s type-A personality seems to means she always has to act perky and almost always has to be enthusiastic.
