This image of two children sitting in cradles is a very sad story to be told. Some it’s told, find it extremely creepy and other find it very touching. I find it to be a beautiful way to lay your children to rest. I’m also sure this is a grave that stops people in their tracks with curiosity.
Its recounted in legend, that the children's mother left toys in their gravestones. People today still leave toys at the gravesites in their honor as well.
The stones memorialize John B. Sarpy Morrison, who was about 6 when he died in 1876, and Julia Olivia Morrison, who was about 2 when she died in 1870. Their father was James L.D. Morrison and their mother was Julia Ann Adele Sarpy Morrison. James Morrison died in 1888 at 72; his much-younger wife died in 1925, at 84.
James Morrison was a lawyer who served in the Mexican-American War, both branches of the Illinois General Assembly and in the U.S. Congress, representing part of Illinois. The two married in 1861 and had four children; two survived.
Whether she actually visited the graves to leave toys isn't certain. Julia Morrison wrote several books after her husband died, and was described in newspaper articles as a social leader. A February 1888 article says she "is one of the most striking examples St. Louis affords of a wealthy, energetic woman, who does not let time hang heavy on her hands, and whose industry ... is indefatigable." She owned (with her sister, Virginia Peugnet) several properties in St. Louis, East St. Louis and Jefferson County, and was a co-owner of the St. Louis Shot Tower.
The Sarpy-Morrison plot includes several family names, including Berthold, Carr, Peugnet, Roche, Morrison and Sarpy, according to archdiocesan burial records.

Customers Fall Victim to Alleged Theft-by-Deception Scheme in Appliance Repair Industry
Repairman impersonates legitimate company, steals money from frustrated customers
When a household appliance breaks down, it can be a major inconvenience. For some customers in Bellevue, Nebraska, however, their frustration turned into vulnerability as they fell victim to an alleged theft-by-deception scheme in the appliance repair industry. This scheme involved a repairman posing as an employee of a legitimate company, taking money upfront for repairs, and then disappearing without completing the work.
The victims, already dealing with broken appliances, were left with empty pockets and unresolved issues.
One such victim, Steve Lush, experienced this firsthand when his refrigerator malfunctioned last December. Seeking a repair service, he filled out a form on an appliance repair website and was soon contacted by a repairman named Dominique Moore. Moore claimed that he needed $450 to order a part for the repair.
Steve, eager to have his refrigerator fixed, handed over the money and expected a call when the part arrived. Unfortunately, that call never came.
youtube
Caught on Camera: Attempting to Retrieve Funds
Steve had the foresight to install security cameras in and around his home, including the area where the repairman was working. Armed with video evidence of Moore's presence and interactions with him, Steve decided to use this as leverage to get his money back. He sent the video to Moore, who, perhaps feeling the pressure, returned the $450 through Venmo.
However, Moore made empty promises of making things right and disappeared, leaving Steve without a resolution to his refrigerator issue.
Karen's Encounter with the Deceptive Repairman
In a similar turn of events, Karen Priefert also fell victim to Dominique Moore's scheme. After searching for "appliance repair near me" online, she filled out a form and Moore arrived at her doorstep. Claiming that he needed a $400 check for a part, Moore left Karen with no choice but to hand over the money.
However, she never received the promised repair or any further communication from the repairman. Moore's deceptive tactics left Karen frustrated and out of pocket.
Legal Action and Charges
Fortunately, justice caught up with Dominique Moore. A Sarpy County judge, aware of Moore's history of theft convictions, charged him with felony theft by deception. It was revealed that Moore not only stole money from customers but also impersonated another company, further tarnishing their reputation.
The legitimate company, All Appliance Service, co-owned by Scott Williams, had to deal with the fallout of Moore's actions. Customers, mistakenly believing they were dealing with All Appliance Service, contacted the company with complaints, unaware that they had been duped by an imposter.
The Right Thing: Rectifying the Damage
Despite the negative impact on their reputation, All Appliance Service took responsibility for the situation. When confused customers contacted them with complaints, the company clarified the situation and offered assistance. In Steve's case, the company fixed his refrigerator for a reasonable $100 service charge, with no additional payment required for the parts.
All Appliance Service aimed to rectify the damage caused by Moore's deceptive actions and ensure that customers received the service they deserved.
The alleged theft-by-deception scheme in the appliance repair industry serves as a reminder of the importance of due diligence when seeking repair services. Customers must exercise caution and verify the credentials and reputation of repair companies and technicians before entrusting them with their appliances and hard-earned money. While this incident has caused frustration and financial loss for some, it also highlights the resilience and commitment of legitimate businesses like All Appliance Service to rectify the damage caused by deceptive individuals.
The legal charges against Dominique Moore send a strong message that such actions will not go unpunished, and customers can find solace in the fact that justice is being served.

Day 270
April 29, 2023
We set off from Iowa and crossed into Nebraska. There we passed one of the most landlocked lighthouses in the USA, the Linoma Lighthouse. I didn’t expect to see a beach here, but it turns out it’s artificial.
Linoma Beach, now doing business under the name Linoma Lighthouse, is a privately owned recreation area developed around an artificial lake in Sarpy County in the eastern part of the state of Nebraska, in the Midwestern United States. The site was opened in 1924; in 1939, a 100-foot (30 m) lighthouse was added to it. The lighthouse is a conspicuous landmark on U.S. Highway 6 between Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska.
It seems that everything in Nebraska gets progressively drier as you travel west. We had a couple hundred miles of this, plus a few hills…
The terrain became more hilly as we reached Wyoming:
We got dinner and took a quick look at downtown Cheyenne. They’ve got several of these boots sitting around:
We popped in a record shop (didn’t catch the name) and looked around while a metal band started playing (also didn’t catch the name, though I think they said the song was called Death). Seemed like a cool place. We called it a night not long after.
