Acabo de ver en la TV como un CAMA_LEON se zampa a una MANTIS RELIGIOSA..y cambio de CANAL y veo que echan FORCES OF NATURE de BEN AFLECK [esta haciendo la reanimación cardiopulmonar a uno] de nuevo pareja de Jennifer LOPEZ y Sandra BULLOCK cuyo marido murió de ELA..va camino de casarse con su novia de toda la vida pero conoce a otra chica.

A  unos pocos días de su boda el avión en el que viaja Ben Holmes (Ben Affleck) se sale de la pista por culpa de unos pájaros que estropean uno de los motores, y queda atrapado en Nueva York sin posibilidad alguna de volver rápidamente a los brazos de su nerviosa prometida, Bridget (Maura Tierney), que le espera ansiosa en Savannah.

Ben no se lo piensa dos veces y emprende un alocado y descontrolado viaje junto a otra de las pasajeras del avión, Sarah Lewis (Sandra Bullock), una atractiva joven, impetuosa y divertidamente excéntrica. Al principio la relación entre dos personas tan opuestas resulta complicada, pero pronto empiezan a gustarse. Por ello, pasados los primeros momentos, comienza una mutua atracción irresistible.

So, what's interesting is that when Maria Bjornson was designing the "looks" (if I can call them that) for the Phantom and Raoul, she drew inspiration from Old Hollywood actors that had the right "vibe". Raoul for instance was based off Errol Flynn, mainly because a late 19th century French aristocrat' sense of noblesse oblige was more, let's say, romanesque than their British counterparts, in the sense that it drew a lot from popular historical novels at the time (think Alexandre Dumas, Paul Féval, Théophile Gautier, etc. Raoul would be a massive fanboy for Corneille's Le Cid).

The Phantom meanwhile was based off Rudolph Valentino. He was one of the first sex icons in cinematic history, especially when he starred in the 50 Shades of Grey of his time, The Sheik. (Which, as you may have guessed, DID NOT AGE WELL.) Valentino was known especially for being an incarnation of all the stereotypes linked to "continental" men, especially in terms of fears of them seducing their precious lily pure daughters (people were mostly xenophobic prudes lmao), and I'm not going to get into all the nitty gritty and the controversies linked to Valentino because oof, that's a ride and a half.

That being said, while I don't think Bela Lugosi was a direct inspiration for the Phantom (Andrew Lloyd Webber wanted to get as far away as the horror sensibilities of the story as possible, because "too pedestrian"), I *do* think Valentino was a big inspiration in how Bela Lugosi was styled for the play and later the film adaptation of Dracula.

As a side note, Christine has a bit of Mary Philbin (especially since it suited Sarah Brightman's own look pretty well), a bit of Meryl Streep in The French Lieutenant's Woman with all the pre-Raphaelite vibes, and it wouldn't be surprised if there was a bit of Gene Tierney and a bit of Hedy Lamarr (especially for the Star Princess, since it looks like a wackier version of Hedy's outfit in Ziegfield Girl).

A lot of people think Lugosi commissioned Geza Kende to make the girl in this painting look like Bow. Lugosi kept it in every home he lived in until his death.
