Samsung Galaxy S8/S8 Plus update tracker (Update: Oreo rollout resumed) Update #3 (02/22): Samsung has resumed the rollout of Android Oreo for the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. As noted in the previous update, the rollout was halted due to unexpected reboots but Samsung appears to have ironed out the kinks in the latest firmware updated. The new software replaces “CRAP” with the far-less-hilarious “CRB7” build for both the S8 and S8 Plus. GSMArena reports that the update weighs in at 530 MB for users with Oreo already installed, while the download size will be much larger for those who missed out the first time. Users in Germany are reporting signs of the OTA and other regions are expected to see the 8.0 Oreo update in the coming days and weeks… as long as there are no further hiccups, of course. Update #2 (02/15): The Android Oreo rollout to the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus has been put on hold due to unexpected reboots, says Samsung (via Sam Mobile). News that the rollout had been held up began circulating yesterday, but we were unaware as to why. “Following a limited number of cases where Galaxy S8 and S8+ devices have rebooted unexpectedly with the Android 8.0 Oreo, we have temporarily stopped the rollout of the update,” said Samsung. “We are investigating the issue internally to ensure that the impact to the affected devices is minimized and the rollout of the update can resume as quickly as possible.” When Samsung is able to resume the update will depend on how fast it finds the source of the problem and addresses it—and there’s no telling how long that could take. Given that the firmware has recently come out of several-week-long beta period, though—where Samsung’s engineers will have no doubt spent a lot of intimate time with it—it may not be too hard to pin down. We’ll keep you posted. Update #1 (02/14): Samsung has reportedly hit the brakes on the rollout of Android 8.0 Oreo for the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. According to SamMobile, firmware files G950/G955-FXXU1CRAP (no really) have been removed from Samsung’s servers and are no longer in circulation as OTA updates. A major update like this is usually only pulled if a significant bug has been spotted, but there’s no evidence to suggest that’s the case just yet. We’ll be on the lookout for any further information and will update this article accordingly. Users in India, France, Germany, and a handful of other European countries that have already installed the update won’t be impacted by the decision, but it seems like Galaxy S8 owners in other regions will have to wait just a little bit longer for another Oreo-based firmware version. Previous coverage: Welcome to the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus Android update tracker page. This page covers all major U.S. carriers with a quick reference table for each and a log with links to further details.
