NEVJEROJATNO OTKRIĆE: Sasvim slučajno otkriven autoportret jednog od najvećih slikara svih vremena
Tumblr media
NEWS: A previously unknown self-portrait by Van Gogh has been discovered hidden on the back of another painting. Experts at the @NatGalleriesSco made the find when the canvas was X-rayed before an exhibition. icarus fall, Viktor Lazarev
icarus fall-original art by viktor lIn Greek mythology, Icarus (the Latin spelling, conventionally adopted in English; Ἴκαρος, Íkaros, Etruscan: VikareLarissa Bonfante, Judith Swaddling, Etruscan Myths, p. 43) is the son of the master craftsman Daedalus. The main story told about Icarus is his attempt to escape from Crete by means of wings that his father constructed from feathers and wax. He ignored instructions not to fly too close to the sun, and the melting wax caused him to fall into the sea where he drowned. The myth shares thematic similarities with that of Phaëton—both are usually taken as tragic examples of hubris or failed ambition—and is often depicted in art. Today, the Hellenic Air Force Academy is named after Icarus, who is seen as the mythical pioneer in Greece's attempt to conquer the skies. Icarus's father Daedalus, a talented and remarkable Athenian craftsman, built the Labyrinth for King Minos of Crete near his palace at Knossos to imprison the Minotaur, a half-man, half-bull monster born of his wife and the Cretan bull. Minos imprisoned Daedalus himself in the labyrinth because he gave Minos' daughter, Ariadne, a clewclew – a ball of yarn or thread. The etymology of the word "clue" is a direct reference to this story of the Labyrinth. (or ball of string) in order to help Theseus, the enemy of Minos, to survive the Labyrinth and defeat the Minotaur. Daedalus fashioned two pairs of wings out of wax and feathers for himself and his son. Daedalus tried his wings first, but before taking off from the island, warned his son not to fly too close to the sun, nor too close to the sea, but to follow his path of flight. Overcome by the giddiness that flying lent him, Icarus soared through the sky curiously, but in the process he came too close to the sun, which melted the wax. Icarus kept flapping his wings but soon realized that he had no feathers left and that he was only flapping his bare arms, and so Icarus fell into the sea in the area which today bears his name, the Icarian Sea near Icaria, an island southwest of Samos.Thomas Bullfinch - The Age of Fable Stories of Gods and Heroes KundaliniAwakeningSystem.com & The Internet Classics Archive by Daniel C. The head and tongue in this panel are a 3D model that I made in Nomad Sculpt and then imported into Clip Studio. Then, upon deciding that 3D modeling is hard actually, I discovered I could fake a 3D look for the rest of the body by modifying a metallic brush. I was going for "thing you see in an early 2000s video game as a kid that fucks you up forever"! or "thing from Courage the Cowardly Dog that makes you go How Was This A Kids' Show???"

🌸 you can take the girl out of the spiral, but you can't take the Spiral out of the girl 🌸
This is a WIP from the upcoming chapter of I Escaped My Genre. It's actually based on what I consider the scariest shot from one of the scariest movies I've ever seen (Smile, 2022). But this time, it's adorable because Samo is basically the opposite of the monster from that movie! The only thing she haunts people with is her sparkling personality!!! (Mostly.)
Plain-text below cut:
Image description from alt-text:
a black and white digital illustration on a blue background, showing a cartoony sequence of the character Samo from "I escaped my genre". Samo is a femme person with short curly hair, large breasts, and a Japanese school girl uniform. in these images, her neck is thin, wrinkled, and at least a foot long.
the sequence shows Samo tilting her head more and more until her entire head goes upside-down, with her hair dangling over the bottom edge of the comic's panel frame. then her head continues to move in the same circular direction until it is fully upright again, making a 360 degree loop. her neck is even longer in the last panel. her expression is one of innocent confusion.

LOOK AT THIS FAN ART OF MY BABY THAT @adamofingolstadt made!!!!!
When I saw this, not only did I immediately notice that it exactly suits the very specific horror-comedy tone of the series, and not only did I absolutely flip out about how lovely it is - but I also had these two thoughts:
Fuck, I wish I'd thought of that!
I would never have thought of this.
And then I got really emotional about the power of shared art to show us things we love that we would never have been able to make ourselves. Humanity can be great, actually.

Did you know Samo has a big brother?? It's true! He picks them up after class sometimes. Of course, Hikari insists that everything he says sounds "incredibly threatening," but he really is just a wonderful big bro!!

#i escaped my genre#alt-text#image description#image descriptions#junji ito#my art#isekai#creepy#he has the same resting scary face disease as Tatsu The Immortal Dragon from Way of the House Husband#but he's never actually seen doing anything harmful to anyone. I also kind of like the idea of Samo's teacher having a crush on him.#maybe hikari too idk.#the hair is because I just saw the Junji Ito Maniac episode 'long hair in the attic' and turns out hair horror looks cool#i don't have a design for Samo's teacher and gods willing i won't take on another project right now#for those who haven't read a lot of junji Ito - often in his stories there's some character who is ostensibly fully human but#just has an incredibly creepy aura. and in his stories this always leads to the reveal that the person is in fact supernatural and/or evil#and i thought it would be funny to have a character who is that level of offputting and who talks like a serial killer... who it turns out#is just a nice guy. just a guy who loves his family and works hard being a salary man! he walks the dog in the mornings and he loves ska!#and if i ever feel like drawing a character with sentient haunted hair then he's here for me#simon stevenson#samo Stevenson#hikari hikizuri#he's fairly tall but Samo is still like two feet taller than him#he has regular human proportions#he and Samo have a very sweet and healthy relationship.#might be fun to have everyone around them be like 'OMG ARE YOU TWINS?? You looks so alike!' while Hikari is like 99% sure that's a vampire
