For my girls, that love to travel; #Part1 I know it’s hard. Harder than it sounds, harder than it looks, harder than they tell you it’s going to be. No one tells you, how very scary it is. Everyone talks about the crazy experiences and the fun they’ve had – the cool friends they’ve made. From a distance, it looks amazing. On paper, it looks easy. But from the train journey to the flight to walking down those streets on your own looking on a map, lost, alone, in an unknown country – is scary. That’s the thing about habits – they make us so comfortable in our own little world that we’re petrified of letting go, but the only way to grow in life, is to let go. To step out of your comfort zone, to do something new. The first time I ever travelled alone, I landed in Bangkok city & I was on the phone to my family every 2 minutes, whining, regretting a trip to a new country where I knew nothing & understood no language. I just wanted to be back home, in the comfort of my bed & the familiarity of all the materialistic things that defined me. I was petrified, lost, with a big suitcase, unsure of where to go to get the tickets for my next train that would take me to Koh Tao island. I’d never seen an island before, and in that moment, I thought… ‘it’s okay if I never see one, I just want to be home’. I reached a ferry port and threw my bag and ran to the toilet, sat on the pot, and howled my eyes out. I cried so much. I felt so alone. I am a woman. A woman of colour. Sometimes privileged, often prohibited. Stifled. A woman none the less. Feminine, fragile, strong, masculine. I, am of substance. Wait – sometimes I’m of no substance, but I am the woman I wish to become, instead of desperately clinging onto the idea of an ideal woman, that you‘ve perfectly crafted for me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’m a woman. An independent woman. I take pride in my financial independence – my ability to make my own choices because no one is feeding me. The option to walk away, the choice to stay. But that pride I cling onto so much, isn’t all mine. I’m independent not only because I chose to be, but because I was given the opportunities to become. Too many women like me live life without those opportunities. Without independence. Without choices. Dependent on their fathers & husbands – Financially. Emotionally. Socially. The world says, privileged women don’t need to be empowered…why not, I ask? Women from educated families, are also suppressed. How can I ever empower women from villages, if I simply fail to remind my women in cities, that they have an identity too? How can we make gold digger jokes about women using men like ATM’s, when we condition our women to attach their self worth & success to their marriages instead of their individual achievements? Why is it that maternal leave in most places is still for a woman, instead of both parents? Smart, intelligent women, still being conditioned to sacrifice their career growths, so they can have a family – regardless of how much they may love their jobs… because biological clock. I talk to women from different path’s of life, some that want a rich husband because it’s all they were conditioned to want from the beginning, some that want to become that rich husband, some that just want a family & nothing more, others that want to be entrepreneurs & bosses more than they want to be wives & mothers. Many that didnt want a degree just because it looked good on their shaadi portfolio. Some want to be respected, others – just want to be heard. I am a woman, a woman of colour. Idealised, stifled, but free. Let #women choose for themselves – who they wish to be.

I said I’d have a beach bikini body within one month. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It was hard – very hard to achieve. It took dedication, discipline, money, because let’s not forget, you can’t really get anywhere without the $$$, but at the end of the month… I realised that all it really took was a 12 hour flight – because I already had the bikini body. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Remember, all you ever really need, is to be a body, in a bikini, on a beach. My happiest place is probably a massage bed – I’m usually automatically in an annoyed mood right after a massage because I cannot accept that it’s over. I’m so sad, and groggy, and annoyed, for almost a good 30 minutes before the calm relaxation kicks in, and everything seems… easier. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I genuinely think there are some things in life, like sushi and massages, that are better than sex, and it really makes you wonder, what is it that really makes the world go around? Love? Sex? Money? Or maybe… therapy? To; My dear friends with kids. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’m sorry I haven’t stayed in touch a lot lately. I tend to wander off in my own world, forgetting to share your happiness with you. I’ve been a little unfair & dishonest about my feelings, mostly cause I’m so scared that you’ll hate me, or judge me – but I guess I just have to trust you with my truth. I’ve been feeling a little distant from my friends with families. No, I’m not ‘lost’ nor am I ‘unhappy’ & I definitely don’t love you any less than I did before. But life is unpredictable & full of surprises. At 20, I had a ‘deadline’ for myself to adopt my first child by 30, which over the last few years changed – it became 35, then 32, again 30, and now – I’m at a point where I’ve decided to stop pushing deadlines down my throat just because it’s what’s expected of me. I still want to adopt more than anything else in this world, but I want to live, first. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Unfortunately it requires me to get my ‘ducks in a row’ in order to be legally eligible – marriage, buy a house, pay loans – but my ducks are currently running around the farm crazy & they seem so… happy! If I ever wanted to give birth, I would’ve done it right now & travelled the world with my child – but I’ve never wanted to bring another life into this world. I’ve wanted to adopt since I was 13 yrs old. And right now – I need to live, learn & grow as a person before I can be half the parent you’ve so effortlessly become. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I don’t want to burden myself with mortgage & loans just to prove to a government that id make a good parent – I’m not there yet. If I tied myself down, I’d hate myself & everyone around me. I’ll feel trapped. No one will be happy then. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I need to be able to be happy with where I am – who I am, before I can be answerable for a child that’s already seen the worst. So yes, I’ve been distracted with my dreams, often detached from your stories. But I’m watching from afar, I promise! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ From the baby steps to that adorable smile all over your feed – I’m so happy that you’ve found this magic! I promise when I’m ready, I will return. I recently read that these countries below are apparently the ‘safest’ for women to travel solo. Now while I don’t know what statistics that’s based on, given that anything could happen anywhere, but I guess considering the situation in our own home country, I mean – let’s not kid anyone, you can be patriotic and love your home and still acknowledge the drawbacks within… just as a mother can love it’s child but real love would not be to overlook and ignore their wrong doings, but instead to address them and help them be better – so while many of us MAY have had safe travels here at home, it isn’t necessarily a safe country for women to travel solo in. You’d have time and clothing restrictions, and that’s just to begin with. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But I would imagine some countries are easier and safer than others. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’m sharing this list with you humans, mostly to also know if any of you have ever been? Devil’s coincidences + Poems & Quotes

To all girls who are made to feel impotent and undesirable or unwanted, a reject, a defect, some loser, a social stigma, not a muse or poison like you are supposed to be… not a Balaa Aafat not the one for whom his mother would jokingly say, “Kaha se aayi Yeh ladki Yeh aafat ki pudi?” *Smirks* only cheap vulgar girls are granted that title when all they want to do is use their sons and jump on their couches and head that too half naked like Saloni Chopra LITERALLY WAS doing for real RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME I loved him and it was very torturous. To all of us who aren’t that fair or white to satiate their lust, for people who don’t know how to love, to all those who match the quote - “A flawed Diamond is always better than a pebble without imperfections” my head is feeling extremely tight and it’s paining a lot I’m getting a bleeding sensation in my mouth as if I’m haemorrhaging I somehow wrote this for you’ll… I heard a song yesterday and it reignited that resentment in me. Well I was again in sync with the universe and coincidentally this pic matched the colour scheme of all the other images which were currently there in my photo library which mostly had paintings/sketches from Sotheby’s new auction. They are holding many actually you wouldn’t know which one… but yeah I can’t write more I force myself. THIS IS NOT for Harsh a lot of critics would say “You think he is going to get impressed by this?” Pls mind ur own business it is between me and him, you are no one to interfere nor do you have any say in this. I wasn’t in the best position to write but I’ve somehow drafted this thing I’m getting a whirring sound and sensation throughout my chest and body my hands are trembling with violent involuntary jerks this is not for him I have no future I feel hopeless like an insult all the humiliation and insensitivity was debilitating nothing changed for me things only got worse. No one said not even for once that I wasn’t wrong. It was him who is testing my patience because he thinks non actors are unspeakable so then why did he approach me in the first place? He would say I write a lot but that’s because he just doesn’t say anything… what did I do? I was so calm and patient with him in 2015. I have not written this for Harsh. (There are more coincidences and writings below this poem)

A Storm ⛈️

The latter has just been written generally… that’s the current climate, we’ve actually been divided into these 2 subcategories (more below this pic)

I had once told the Devil “Go to hell oh sorry you are already in hell” the next time I saw a few signs/quotes wherein I could make out someone was reading my mind so I asked “Who’s this?” Usually it’s either the Devil or Angels they do that and then some help me with relevant helpful quotes (I don’t need humans to do that or give me innuendos like they did which I’ve shared in one of my blog articles, you can straightaway talk instead of making me feel like I’m not worthy of any human contact or else keep away, I appreciate that but you don’t have to sorry) When I asked who’s this? It said “From Hell”… read my first line. I’ve had many such instances with the Devil. Anyway I once asked why are you so fond of me? Why am I your favourite enemy? No in literal sense what is it that you like about me? These spirits or entities they do this on my fav apps, the ones I use frequently where I spend most of my time and it’s not Instagram. I received some quotes which suggested my poem (something I’d written long back) and they indicated all my writings where I usually turn things around. I had written something about lost time and youth which has hit me the hardest and he liked that because at that point I was also being very brave. Ironically the Devil feeds on our fears but every time I show courage ends up being his favourite in my case. The other day I cracked some jokes and laughed because that’s my nature, and honestly when I was once crying a lot my phone was on shuffle and I was crying because one of the characters in my book had someone who ended up being just a fallacy so the lyrics also said “Meri Kahaani mein tu mere aakho ke paani mein tu” (You are in my story and in my tears) then I cracked a few jokes in my head and laughed and I realised that the song which was playing was also talking about that. I was laughing and while I was doing so the song said “Hasti rahe tu hasti rahe hayaa ki laali khilti rahe, zulfon ke neeche gardan pe sub ho shaam milti rahe” 😱 Next, That “someone” was getting married and I was thinking that I can’t even imagine such Punjabi Sangeet and all or an ideal husband like that for myself (something I’ve been fond of ever since I was a toddler I always wanted to marry a Punjabi) I might be smart but I’m nowhere like that in looks, the lyrics coincidentally said “Tu kehde haske toh tod du mai rasmo ko” Hahaha flirt… the Devil flirts a lot beware all the girls, he does that but you know he is the only one who wants me to laugh instead of cry, crying us killing me. THIS IS ONE MORE COINCIDENCE I can’t write I’m somehow dragging it… so I’m gonna finish it in short I was telling myself in my HEAD (not verbalising) that I don’t recognise him anymore that guy I don’t even know who he is, his pics were différent and I thought he was a good decent guy, I got the urge to play a song from my childhood days where me and my best friend would prepare a dance and all and then the other song which came after that said just when I thought I don’t recognise him or know who he is - “Tune abhi dekha nahi, dekha hai to jaana nahi, jaana hai to maana nahi, mujhe pehchaana nahi” I told him it’s enough I can’t laugh at this serious topic and then that other song played where I realised it was a lot like that movie Kaho na pyaar hai and it had that line “Toh Hass kyuki duniya ko hai hasaana” Anyway the Devil doesn’t want to fight Tujhe fight nahi karna hai Ishq Ladaana hai? Really, he has nothing to do with looks, it’s all on a different level, the affinity and mingling… anyway I’ve written something inspired by that also somehow. Well it wasn’t supposed to rhyme but he’ll love it. And I have received signs which have already suggested that one day, he will change (the Devil).

ANOTHER BIG FAT COINCIDENCE

I’m very WEAK I can’t type I’m lifeless I have heavy infection and too much cold now due to that it’s like life is being sucked out of my body there’s no good either I haven’t eaten anything since morning you know my mother. REF. Tumblr: BerlinBisque has a post with poems regarding this Devil theory (5th post after pinned) on tumblr… after yesterday’s coincidences.

I just saw 429 and 526 today, the Devil 4 is trying to keep me 29 for him and 5 Harsh will have 26 Aneri The lyrics in the background rightly said (now while I was writing this down) Chanda aur taare bhi bolenge Yeh kya hua mai wohi tu wohi samah woh na raha cuz in the timing or samah moment it was 5:26 exactly when when I WAS THINKING about both of US and our numbers together. Coincidentally inspite and irrespective of the timing the other song which was playing back then was about us, each and every word, it was talking about a love game (tinder) and then silence (his silence which never broke) and then this entire long running saga… anyway he thinks because of my dreams (which were based on those real life coincidences which I’d shared earlier in www.lilacnights.com/post/stupid-cupid he thinks it’s about my Religion due to the influence of Jinns in my dreams (we are all surrounded by them the only difference is that some of us can see them and some can’t) I can’t type I hardly have any life left in me I can’t breathe if it’s about my religion then clearly why do we have a Raavan, a virgin Sita and his entire Lanka putting me there… but at the end of this Ramkatha we are all still asking Who is Ram? And where is he? Well there’s a twist in this story I fought till the very end not because I was my own hero but because I was Ram’s hero… and let’s say maybe Sita in this story was actually always Durga (She’s the black Goddess right? And in India every girl has liked her because she is an emblem of Strength and Fortitude, she was needed in a country like India with all these perverse men) I saw mirror numbers again when I wrote this 295 and 925 (I just realised they were mine and his numbers our birthdates) Mirror numbers stand for Twin Flames or Soulmates and I repeatedly see 2nd Oct and 2nd April we first met in Oct then April both on the 2nd date a lot of ppl say when things keep reminding you of your encounters they keep going back to your meetings it means it’s a twin flame.

I can’t type my mother is torturing me again I have high fever & my breathing is terrible, I’m feeling cold too… he has ruined my looks now (I had high cheekbones & beautiful eyes but sitting constantly with my head tilted and all the neglect has resulted in dark marks on my skin on the neck on the same side where I rest my head my cheekbones towards the right) for years I have put up with a lot of much trauma (things only got worse) with my mother’s abuse and his problems, I have lost everything except my virginity. NOW I won’t be able to make him happy and he is fair and flawless like that girl she is his happiness, I don’t mind if it’s unfair they say a flawed diamond is better than a pebble without imperfections so it does apply to everyone all the girls who are reading this and all other guys please take care of your soulmate or whoever you have in your life instead of doing this, here I was helpless and if he is so adamant then like I said she’ll make him happy. I don’t mind losing my hope I know I’ll be putting up with my mother till my last breath which would be soon enough. That’s how my life has been… I don’t want to punish him with “myself” he threw me to the wolves he made me talk to all those illiterate pervy men who couldn’t even understand English and they anyway didn’t want to… you know what they want. At least I don’t deserve that. I will die here in my horrible mother’s house but I WILL not lose my virginity to a rapi-st. That is who they are. And this is not why we have educated men who instead of protecting us, prey and let other people also prey… I will die saying yes it was unfair but I don’t want things to be fair now cuz I’m not white like her and even though I’m fair I’m not flawless or her shade of fair/white. I’m like a mixed complexion, certain parts are white but I have a yellow undertone and some areas are dark, we aren’t categorised as fair in India. I anyway never wanted someone as good looking as him I hadn’t seen him I still don’t know his voice (read my posts from 22nd Dec) He is too handsome or something and I didn’t want that cuz then all this happens. Following the complaints, Bhatia went on an indefinite leave from his position ahead of the auction house's inaugural sale in Mumbai.

NEW DELHI: Following sexual harassment allegations in November 2018 and an indefinite period of leave, Sotheby's Managing Director for India Gaurav Bhatia has stepped down from the post, an official statement said on Saturday.

Confirming the news, Bhatia in a statement said he has decided to move on from Sotheby's and wished the company luck for their future endeavours.

"After two enriching years and the stellar opportunity to launch Sotheby's inaugural auction in Mumbai, I have decided to move on. It has been a pleasure working with the great team we have built, and I will enjoy watching them continue to build Sotheby's future in India. I wish them the very best," he said.

2018 saw the rise of the #MeToo movement in India. Inspired by a global campaign against sexual harassment and assault, women across the spectrum opened up and shared their stories about abuse by men in positions of power. And it began in October with actress Tanushree Dutta accusing actor Nana Patekar of sexual harassment while shooting for the 2008 film 'Horn Ok Please'.

What followed was a series of posts by other women who shared their experiences with the world. From actors, film directors to advertising top guns, artists and writers and politicians, women professionals called out obnoxious behaviour at the workplace. From unwanted attention in the office to sexual innuendos on the film set, there were many kinds of allegations that surfaced.

As the year ends, we look back at all those who were accused of inappropriate behaviour and harassment.

Nana Patekar, Tanushree Dutta27 Dec, 2018

Former actress Tanushree Dutta in September accused Nana Patekar of sexually harassing her during the shooting of their 2008 film 'Horn Ok Pleassss'. Dutta went on to say that she had brought up the complaint 10 years ago when the incident occurred, but no action was taken.The actress also said that she was supposed to do a solo number for the film, but Patekar decided to join in and perform intimate dance steps that made her uncomfortable.Patekar denied the allegations and sent a legal notice to the actress, who filed a police complaint against the actor and the film's choreographer Ganesh Acharya, producer Samee Siddiqui and director Rakesh Sarang. Meanwhile, Rakhi Sawant who had replaced Dutta in the song for the film, then accused her of taking drugs on the set. Dutta slapped a Rs 10 crore defamation suit against Sawant. Vinta Nanda, Alok Nath, Sandhya Mridul27 Dec, 2018

Alok Nath, known for his popular on-screen portrayals, found himself in the midst of the #MeToo controversy after writer-director Vinta Nanda accused him of rape. Actress Sandhya Mridul also alleged that he had made sexual advances towards her during a shoot.

Nanda had alleged that the actor had raped her 19 years ago. Nath, however, refuted the allegations and filed a civil defamation suit against Nanda. Nath's wife Ashu had also recorded her statement in court against Nanda and sought defamation against the writer-director.

Mridul, while slamming Nath for causing agony, praised Tanushree Dutta and Vinta Nanda for their courage to come forward and urged others to not be ashamed and ‘keep this fire going.’

Vikas Bahl, Vikramaditya Motwane, Anurag Kashyap, Kangana Ranaut27 Dec, 2018

On October 6, hours after Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane, Madhu Matena and Vikas Bahl announced the decision to dissolve their production house Phantom Films, director Bahl was accused of sexual harassment by a former employee. The victim who had worked on the production house's film 'Bombay Velvet' recalled her ordeal with Bahl in 2015. Soon after, Kashyap and Motwane went on record to say that they were informed about the allegations by the employee and detailed the backdoor deliberations that took place in order to punish their partner. Their statement led to Bahl filing a Rs 10 crore defamation suit against them. The 'Queen' director also demanded interim action from the court seeking to restrain Kashyap and Motwane from making statements against him to media or through social media. Sajid Khan, Saloni Chopra, Priyanka Bose, Mandana Karimi27 Dec, 2018

Sajid Khan had to step down from 'Houseful 4' after multiple allegations of sexual impropriety surfaced against the Bollywood director. His close friend and aide in Bollywood, Akshay Kumar also chose to not support him and decided not to shoot if Khan was on-board.

On October 11, an aspiring actress, Saloni Chopra had posted a detailed account of the harrowing time she had with Khan.

A freelance journalist also claimed that Khan had exposed himself when she was interviewing him in the early 2000s. After the allegations, Khan stepped down from the upcoming comedy 'Housefull 4'. The movie, produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and being distributed by Fox Star Studios, is the latest entry in a franchise that began in 2010. Khan has directed two of the previous three films.

Priyanka Bose, who has acted in critically acclaimed films including 'Lion', 'Gulaab Gang', and 'Half Ticket' among others, opened up about the incident that allegedly took place when Khan had called her for an audition. She detailed the incident and shared that soon after when she narrated the incident to her partner, he asked him to quit right away. She has been quoted as saying, “He called me for an audition. The text from his assistant read, “Should be comfortable in a bikini.” When I landed up with the required clothing, no sides were given.”

Mandana Karimi alleged that Khan made inappropriate remarks when she visited his office to discuss a role in his 2014 film 'Humshakals'. The actress said that Khan had asked her to remove her clothes, in order for her to get the part.

Thanking and appreciating Bhatia, the auction house in a statement said: "Sotheby's Managing Director of India, Gaurav Bhatia, resigned on December 20, 2018, after two years with the company, during which time he launched the inaugural Mumbai auction. We appreciate and thank him for his service."

According to complaints posted on Instagram in November 2018, Bhatia touched the victims inappropriately and forcibly tried to kiss them.

Following the complaints, Bhatia went on an indefinite leave from his position ahead of the auction house's inaugural sale in Mumbai.
