NEURONS ACTIVATED.
I'm no art historian and this might be a different saint but it at least triggered my brain's FAVE SAINT alarm so here goes.
This would probably be Saint Margaret. Her story has a bunch of versions, but basically some nasty non-christians wanted sum fuk, she said no, they said well fuck you too. Now the cool part is that she was then fed to a dragon.
Most versions of her story say she got et and then escaped out of the dragon's stomach. But the Cool versions say she tamed the dragon instead. The dragon was actually satan but we don't really gotta focus on that.
Point is, she's sometimes depicted leading a dragon (usually a big, badass one) on a thin, flimsy ribbon.
Now I'm not religious at all so the whole godliness and purity angle never spoke to me much, but if that ain't one of the most powerful visuals on this gay earth I don't know what is.
Big, Powerful Bad(ass) creature being led by a dainty little person on the flimsiest of leashes is just. So good.
#Also big disclaimer I don't even have the correct saint from the get-go#thing is all those saints merged and melded and their stories got embellished and changed all the time#especially if they shared names or were patrons of the same thing#Saint Margaret is just the one associated with a couple of my favorite artworks of this flimsy leash dragon visual#if anyone tries to tell you christianity is a monotheistic religion THEY ARE LYING
