JOIN US ON ST. LUCIA.
Equal parts beauty and mystique, St. Lucia captivates anyone who sets foot on her coastline. Always evocative, she welcomes visitors with her soothing waves, warm beaches, and hospitable people. The only sovereign nation to be named for a woman, the island personifies adventure and inspiration. Her visitors invariably find themselves reluctant to leave and eager to return.
Scuba Diving: Diving in St. Lucia offers a world class experience with the island ideally situated between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Undoubtedly a great option for the well-seasoned diver, families or groups, the adventurous spirit and of course the novice who aspires to experience the wonders of the underwater world. Boasting more than 22 awe-inspiring dive locations, the majestic isle of Saint Lucia harbors a wide range of stunning dive options.
Adventure Tours: Adventure Tours St. Lucia pioneered the adventure tour concept many years ago, originally offering bike tours. Today we offer zipline, buggy, bike, speed boat, kayak and snorkeling tours, as well as power catamaran day trips to the neighboring island of Martinique.
Festivals & Events: Don’t miss out on some of St. Lucia’s festivals and events!  Renowned as the premier jazz festival in the Caribbean, the St. Lucia Jazz Festival & Arts Festival features the finest names in modern jazz performing in intimate venues and public settings throughout the island.   Additionally, the St. Lucia carnival culminates in an exciting, fun-filled street parade of live bands and DJ music, stunning Carnival costumes and the joyous and energetic revelry typical of Caribbean carnivals. This is a very special celebration of Caribbean history, culture and creativity.
Botanical Gardens:  Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens, a six-acre multi-award-winning tourism site, is an attractive, alluring, and peaceful retreat from the outside world.  Enjoy the beauty and warmth of the tropics while walking through lush fertile vegetation and marveling at the diverse range of tropical flowers and plant life. You’ll step into a world with a breathtaking waterfall, hot mineral springs fill the historical baths with age-old medicinal waters, and flora and fauna abound.
Spa: Ti Kaye Resort & Spa is an adult-only resort located above the secluded Anse Cochon cove on the legendary island of St. Lucia. Nestled along the cliff side, Ti Kaye overlooks the serene waters and silver sand of the secluded beach below. Each cottage is purposely built into the landscape, drawing from the beauty of its lush natural surroundings. Equipped with modern amenities and some unusual quirks, guests are invited to unplug and indulge in the purposely built outdoor shower, dip in their personal plunge pool, or simply relax in the double hammock while watching the sunset from their balcony. Cottages offer postcard perfect views and an intimate, private setting by design.
Three Peaks Challenge: St. Lucia has three iconic mountains: Gros Piton, Petit Piton and Mount Gimie. Gros Piton is the better known peak and is already a popular hike with visitors and locals already.  A new adventure experience has now been launched for 2023, bringing together all three climbs. The Saint Lucia Three Peaks Challenge invites visitors to climb each one during their stay. Local experts and guides from The 758 Adventurers provide an escorted series of the three hikes which can be booked across the duration of your visit.
Mud Pools: A visit to Soufriere is an absolute must for all wellness-minded visitors to Saint Lucia. Soak in the restored baths in the Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens or in the bathing pools at the nearby Sulphur Springs with purifying mud. The mud is said to detoxify the body and helps heal sunburns, eczema, sore joints and more. It’s the ultimate natural spa treatment. Local legend insists that this experience will make you look and feel younger!
Rainforest Tours: Rainforest Adventures creates unique and memorable experiences that inspire a sustainable use of the environment and an appreciation of the local culture while positively impacting our communities. Rainforest Adventures St. Lucia offers visitors a unique opportunity for full immersion in the island vibrant rainforest life. Guests can choose to amble along different things to do in St. Lucia, such as eavesdropping on nature conversations along the nature trail, soaring up and away through the forest canopy on gondolas, or thrill-seeking on a zip line, gliding from platform to platform, high on the stoic trunks of the ancient sentries of the rainforest.
Beach Activities: Includes surfing, kayaking, sailing, flyboarding, kite surfing, or a trip to Splash Island Water Park! Though if swimming in out clear waters and lounging on the speed is more your speed, the island has something for all tastes for planning an adventure.
Kite Surfing: Combining the thrill of riding the wind with the thrill of the deep blue, kitesurfing (or kiteboarding) takes the concepts of windsurfing to new heights, literally. St. Lucia’s Atlantic beaches provide the perfect the winds needed for the air-born acrobatics that make this sport so intoxicating.
Shallow Water Snorkeling:  Anse Chastanet Beach is one of the best shallow water snorkeling locations in the country. The area around it is roped off from boaters, keeping the water calm and safe for people who want to swim. There are dozens of other hotspots around the island to snorkel around and explore the bright, tropical fish of the area.
Whales and Dolphins Boat Tour:  Mystic Man Tours offers a full range of ocean adventures on a fleet of well maintained vessels. The company has a reputation for excellent customer service and offers Half Day, Full Day and Sunset Cruises onboard monohull yachts or sailing catamarans. The deep waters off the coast are also favorable for whale and dolphin watching tours and a close up look at other marine life such as the island’s coral reef.
These activities are merely suggestions, and keep in mind you can look at the website to plan your own unique itinerary!

Celebrate the holidays in these 5 cozy US festival towns
The winter holidays are coming! For some, the holidays come with Christmas cheer, family gatherings and cozy cuddles. For others, the winter months can be isolating and lonely. Our cure? Travel. What better way to change things up than by going somewhere new? You don’t have to stay at home and watch a Hallmark movie. Why not get out of town and experience the magic and cheer for yourself? This winter season, we’re bringing to you some of our favorite American towns to celebrate the holidays in. Between the mulled wine, Christmas carolers, winter markets and outdoor ice theaters, you’ll create memories that’ll last long after the snow melts away. The best part? These towns are all over the U.S. so you won’t have to fly across the country to get a taste of the special winter festivities.
There are five US towns we think are worthy of a special trip out for a holiday celebration. First up? Kennebunkport, Maine.
Kennebunkport, Maine
If you need a cozy town to celebrate the winter season, the Christmas Prelude celebration in Kennebunkport offers everything from classic tree-lighting ceremonies to a Christmas story reading from Santa Clause in a cozy cabin. The whole town comes together to make the magic come alive. You can take a trolley ride through a private heritage railroad or watch a coffee roasting demo with a vintage Germany coffee roaster.
For a little +21 fun, you’ll want to buy tickets for the Fire + Ice event. It’s one of the biggest events of the holiday, featuring carved ice sculptures and drinks served from ice bars. Are you a dog lover? Show off your dog at the Pooch Parade, where doggos of all kind dress up in festive outfits and parade together.
Woodstock, Vermont
Woodstock has a population of less than 5,000, so you already know you’re stepping into an intimate experience when you celebrate the holidays here. It’s the perfect place if you enjoy outdoor activities but also want the option to cozy up by the fire. You can go skiing on the Suicide Six ski mountain or hike up Mount Tom.
If you’re ready for something a little warmer, head to the Woodstock Inn. We’re not trying to tell you where to spend the night, but Woodstock Inn is where to spend at least part of the day. Each year, a giant gingerbread house is on display within the inn, and the whole place is decked in twinkling lights. You’ll want to curl up by the fire and sip the hot cocoa, it’s in the air here. There’s even a special parade for horses. Strutting around at the Equestrian Parade are all kinds of horses and their riders, dressed to the nines. Want some alone time after the festivities? You can take a walk through decorated homes open for tour or over the famous Tafstville covered bridge.
St. Augustine, Florida
Do you love to celebrate the winter holidays but dread the thought of the accompanying weather? You don’t have to brave the cold to celebrate the winter cheer. St. Augustine, the oldest city in Florida, throws a party for the whole city during the Nights of Lights. Million of lights cover the city, and you can ride a horse-drawn carriage through the streets or stroll on foot. The Holiday Regatta of Lights Boat Parade on December 9th brings a special St. Augustine-ian twist to the festivities as all kinds of boats float on by, bedazzled with lights. You can even book your own tour to admire the parade from a boat!
The magic doesn’t end there! The Nights of Pints were made for the craft beer lovers, and local breweries present the best of their batches for you to sip. You can also wander through historic 19th century houses on an exclusive once-a-year Christmas Tour of Homes. It’s only on December 8th, so plan accordingly!
Solvang, California
A visit to Solvang is fun on any given day, thanks to the Danish influences on food, architecture, and culture. It’s especially magical during the winter holidays with Santa-worthy festivities. If you fear the cold, don’t worry. There’ll be no white Christmas here. Julefest Holiday spans a whole month, and the activities include free candlelight tours and music in the park. Saint Lucia Day is the latest addition on December 13 with a dedicated parade procession led by a group of women in white.
If you’re coming with children, they’ll love meeting Santa and Mrs. Clause at Santa’s Village. No children? Enjoy the Skal Wine and Stein Stroll, two days of wine and beer tasting. There’ll even be Glogg, a special Danish alcoholic drink similar to mulled wine. To ends the festival? The Tree Burning safety demonstration, with the supervision of the Santa Barbara Fire Department, marks the official end to Julefest.
Vail, Colorado
The snow-covered slopes of Vail are perfect for an outdoor winter adventure. Activities like dog sledding and snow tubing are enjoyed by visitors and locals alike. There are even indoor and outdoor skating rinks to practice your flip jumps! For the less exertion-inclined, Vail doesn’t disappoint either. Kris Kringle Market has all kinds of trinkets and toys to bring back home as souvenirs or stocking stuffers. You won’t go hungry at the market: there’s homemade baked goodies, roasted nuts and other sweets.
One of our favorite highlights of wintertime in Vail is the Vail Winterfest Ice Theater, where films are projected onto an ice screen. Ice chairs are carved out for movie watchers, and holiday classics are played into the night until the ice screen melts. It goes without saying that you should pack an extra layer for this outing!

The World’s 15 Most Romantic Island Getaways For Couples
Romance. They say you can find it anywhere if you’re with the right person. But to see it truly flourish, it helps to be in the right place—whether near or far, celebrating a special occasion, or simply escaping the bustle of everyday life. Enter the world’s most romantic island getaways. You can thank us later…
Best Islands For Romance
We’ve rounded up 15 islands we think are just right for a romantic vacation, and there are some pretty dreamy destinations to choose from! Some offer a slower pace of life ideal for tranquility and relaxation, others are exciting playgrounds abuzz with adventurous activities. All of them have the benefits of good weather, pristine water views, and the warm, warm welcome that islanders are famous for.
When it comes to finding a great place to stay, FlipKey has you covered with an array of bookable rental properties. A Palawan bamboo cabin on the beach, a luxury villa in St. Lucia, or a historic house on Mackinac Island, perhaps? With a private rental, you have the luxury of extra space (always a plus, even when it’s just the two of you). You’ll be able to come and go as you please, enjoy amenities such as a pool or a patio, and even prepare candlelit meals if that’s your thing—all in the blissful seclusion of your own rental. Rental homes can offer great value for money, even in the more upscale destinations mentioned below, so a taste of the high life might be closer to your budget than you think. That could leave you more to spend on that sunset cruise, waterfall tour, or a soak in the hot springs.
Ready to dive in? Here are some of the most romantic islands in the world for a perfect couples getaway.
Palawan, Philippines
The unspoiled archipelago of Palawan is a real treat, with its white beaches, karst outcrops, and pristine waters waiting to be explored. Try this underground tour of the Puerto Princesa Underground River and marvel at its stalactites on an unhurried, small-group excursion. And what could be more romantic than an evening gliding by boat while fireflies light the way? The area is famed for its food, although you may have to step outside your comfort zone for certain dishes—minced crocodile, anyone?
Find a great place to stay in Palawan
Capri, Italy
Capri is all about the good life, with stunning views, lovely coves, and decidedly upscale shopping all making it worthy among the world’s most romantic island getaways. Don’t miss the Blue Grotto and a taste of the local limoncello. For a special treat for your significant other, you could book a private couples’ boat tour of the island, including lunch, wine, and time to stop and snorkel. The best part: it’s reserved for just the two of you and your guide.
Find a great place to stay in Capri
Catalina Island, California, USA
This sunny Californian isle offers beaches, diving, and wildlife spotting, as well as the popular Art Deco Catalina Casino. You could start your visit with a small-group guided trip around Avalon city, a relaxed food and walking tour, or spend the day diving, swimming, and snorkeling, just the two of you. If your idea of romance comes with a bit more energy, try swinging 600 feet above sea level on this fantastic ziplining eco tour.

St. Lucia, Caribbean
With its gorgeous rainforest, volcanic beaches, and fine dining, St. Lucia is an obvious choice for a romantic island getaway. You can spend a day exploring your surroundings by catamaran, stopping for a romantic walk through the tropical greenery of the Diamond Botanical Gardens. Get your bearings, along with some awesome views, on a Tahiti island tour, which includes the lovely waterfalls and tropical flowers of the Vaipahi Gardens. There’s even an excursion for watching the huge waves break at Teahupoo—maybe with a glimpse a surfer or two taking on the challenge.

Maui, Hawaii, USA
Maui is no doubt one of the most romantic islands in the world, with its famous sunrises and sunsets, and its magnificent beaches. Moorea, French Polynesia
West of Tahiti is the smaller island of Moorea, with its lovely lagoon and white-sand beaches. There’s plenty to see here: follow hiking trails up into the lush hillsides for views across the water, try a twin jet ski tour with a guide, including the chance to swim with sharks and stingrays, or take a tour on a transparent kayak over the warm waters of the Moorea lagoon.

Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands
It’s easy to dial up the romance when you’re visiting beautiful Virgin Gorda. Mauritius, Africa
Coral reefs, sandy beaches, unforgettable food—welcome to Mauritius! There’s plenty for romantic souls to get up to here: join a day trip to Bénitiers Island and see dolphins swimming about, enjoy a full-day catamaran cruise, or book a day excursion around southern Mauritius, taking in wildlife, traditional Mauritian fare, and the Saint Aubin sugar estate.
Find a great place to stay in Mauritius
Seychelles, Africa
This is a famously upscale destination for honeymooners, but there are deals to be had when you sidestep the pricier accommodation and book a private home instead.

Day 5:  The lost day
We realized we didn't post the real day 5 accidentally, and since there is no easy way to insert it in the right place on tumblr, without a lot of work, think of it as a bonus day ;-)
Today we planned to go to St Lucia for a bike tour, horse back ride, and croc-hippo river boat tour. Last night we made the unanimous decision to cancel the bike tour and the croc - hippo river boat tour in favor of doing yet another day of safaris at the reserve. We just can not get enough of this.
Today's safari started early again, but the early rise was completely worth it. Everyone in our group spent the day in St Lucia, so we got to have a private morning safari, us and Mark (and of course the notorious beautiful blue eyes tagged along).
We started off tracking the still elusive leopard again, but instead found the cheetah, tracking its next meal. We sat and watched the cheetah stalk the group of impala it was thinking about making breakfast. Unfortunately the winds were not right, the impalas didn't come close enough, the ground was too rocky for speed, and the cheetah was not desperately starving, so he eventually decided to take a snooze instead.
After the lovely morning safari, we ate a quick breakfast and drove to Saint Lucia for our beach and game horse back ride. After a minor struggle finding the meeting point, we met our guides and horses for the next 2.5 hours and got started.
It was immediately obvious that Justin was still a natural on a horse, and I was still a nightmare on a horse. Nevertheless we took the horses over the hill and got our first ever view of the Indian Ocean. It was beautiful; blue water with huge waves, fine white sand with black specs.
Justin confirmed I was ok, and took off running with the horses on the beach and had a blast! The guides took one look at my bouncy trot and told me I had to stay back and walk the horse slowly. It was for the best.
After an hour of this, we started the game ride. It was so neat riding on top of horses through this national park. We got to be one with the warthog, buffalo, zebra, dung beetle, water buck, impala... justin even got to see a python while he was on one of his runs with the guide. He said the snake was 4 meters long, the width of his head (and Justin has a big head) and 'looked like a cartoon snake'. Because I am am so incompetent on a horse, the 2.5 hour ride took over 3 hours, and we were ready to get off those horses.
When finally back to the car, we rushed back to the resort in a desperate attempt to make the 4:00 game ride. We got back just in time, Justin has become very good at driving in South Africa!
The evening game drive highlight was finding the cheetah with his kill, a small impala, and watching him rip it apart. The group enjoyed telling each other about their different experiences in St Lucia, and everyone was very impressed when Justin told them his dramatic recount of stumbling across a python 'big enough to eat his horse,'
Our guide, Mark, has his advantages and his disadvantages. We will start with the disadvantages (so we can end on a positive note):
other safari groups have seen the leopards, some twice now, and we just keep looking for it
Mark is a man of mystery, he rarely speaks and we rarely know what's going on. We just sit back and enjoy whatever show he gives us
Now for the advantages:
Mark seems to be everyone's boss, so whenever we get to one of the exciting animals, the other vehicles are just waiting for Mark to give them permission to go off of the road to get closer to the animals. So whenever we arrive, Mark pulls off road getting us the best vantage point of that animal, and then gives the go ahead to the other vehicles that have been waiting (at lesser positions of course)
He has dreamy blue eyes (to be clear, when I told Justin this he responded 'I noticed that)
When we got back from the drive, we were both exhausted and starving (we missed lunch in our rush from event to event today, not that we've figured out where to eat if not at the resort). So we went to get dinner, took dessert to bed with us and passed out.
New sightings: water buck, python, bull dyka, Indian Ocean
Fun fact: Cheetahs stalk and chase their prey while leopards are ambush animals, that can't go very fast for very long. Typically leopards weight almost twice as much as cheetahs, but actually have a smaller frame... they are just very muscular.
Favorite part of the day: the Indian Ocean breeze via horseback
