Take the following observations:

Taylor kissed Rachel to cure bonesaw's miasma (wildbow 2012, part 14.11)

Taylor could have spit on a bug and had it fly into Rachel's mouth to cure the miasma (@ty-bayonet-betteridge, 2023)

Wildbow has stated numerous times that neither of these characters are supposed to be taken as queer.

Taylor kissing a girl on the lips in a scenario when there were other options she likely would have thought of to cure her is Gay

These three observations all seem to contradict with each other, such that we cannot take them seriously without one of them giving. Most would place their doubt on 3, claiming that wildbow intentionally created a yuri moment for his readers and then backed away from the implications this would have on the larger story. However, careful reasoning reveals that there is no necessary contradiction:

A normally gay action isn't actually gay if all your alternatives in the situation would be more gay.

The most-often stated alternative for what Taylor could have done involved flying a bug down Rachel's throat.

Taylor's swarm is noted numerous times to be an extension of her body.

We can thus conclude there is no contradiction between are initial quartet of observations as long as we accept the following: Taylor having a bug fly down a girl's throat is more gay than simply kissing them.

With this out of the way, we can turn our attention to a section from 19.7:

We have an instance of Taylor doing what she was fully capable of doing in the miasma incident, and sticking a bug down her teammate's throat—in this case in order to stop talking. Based on our above reasoning, we can conclude that Taylor did the equivalent of dipping Lisa into a surprise kiss sloppy style to shut her up. The fact that this strategy worked and Sundancer did in fact nuke those guys is an important piece of evidence for my ongoing theory that Worm acts on the logic of a romantic comedy—

i love how when i started worm i was like oh man i love taylor x rachel bc theyre so fucking toxic. they hate each other but they still so clearly desire each other. and then the arcs continued to progress and their relationship became more and more healthy and wolfspider was no longer a weird toxic relationship between enemies it was just actually a normal healthy ship and that was both very sad and very amusing

I’ve been thinking about Bamsaegi again. Like in Secret of Wolfspider Cave, Geumsaegi has a flashback where he meets with the commanders, and Bamsaegi listens in and then jumps out in front of them.

And the commanders aren’t upset that he was listening since they know him on sight implying he usually tags along (ignoring the ‘he will also make a good soldier’ thing going on).

So all I can imagine is something like this:

Or maybe even when Geumsaegi is dining with the leaders of other villages and Bamsaegi is shyly hiding in the doorway or behind Geumsaegi’s chair.

Still have to draw mice, or even a scene from Lily Bell with Bamsaegi, Undochi, and their friends sneaking away during festivals to watch the fireworks from better vantage points.

Side note: also wondering if Bamsaegi fully understands the implications of Geumsaegi having to leave. Like, did he think Geumsaegi was going to come back in a manner of weeks? Instead, the next time he sees his brother, he is now an adult.

Who took care of him during that time? If we assume Geumsaegi and Juldarami were like his parents, then that implies they didn’t have many relatives. Was it Uncle Gom? Did the village raise him collectively? Or did a neighbor take him in? Did he sit up many nights or wait during the day for his brother to finally return, feeling as if surely it would only be a few more hours?

It would be very sad if he was just considered old enough to live by himself at his age with minimal supervision, which is also likely, although I’m sure he would have had many friends taking care of him.

Taylor sees her dad and argues with his friends a little and realizes that things aren't as clear as she thought they were maybe but whatever I just want to get to know Lacey better. For reasons.

I knew something would happen at the town hall. Once Dragon was taken care of I figured it would be Coil but I wasn't sure what he would do and I didn't expect this. I thought he would mostly be trying to take out Skitter or something.

Happy to see Uber and Leet again, even if they are working for the asshole. They are fun.

Getting more info on Leet's power and I'm even more fascinated then I was before. He couldn't make the teleporter work if it was putting the target into instant danger, like a bomb or a vat of acid. Wild. I wanna know more.

ALSO COIL LEGIT CONSIDERED DROPPING SKITTER INTO A VAT OF ACID!

He really did go full supervillain right at the end. Monologuing, using cheesy lines, stopping the execution of his enemies when one of them yells "Wait!" and letting them talk. Crazy elaborate plans. Good for him I guess.

The Wards new "teleport without swapping matter" tech is quite fancy and it can apparently do a heck of a lot of people at once! Which I could see becoming a big deal. I had initially assumed it was Kid Win who made it (since he did the same with is guns before) but with how stuff has bounced around I'm legit not sure.

OH AND I KNEW I LOVED CIRCUS FOR A REASON, WHAT A WONDERFUL LITTLE GENDERQUEER! THEY GET A PASS FOR STABBING SOME PEOPLE CAUSE THEY DESERVE TO GET TO STAB A FEW PEOPLE.

I had fully called Coil being Thomas Calvert by now, so that itself wasn't a surprise. But I hadn't expected Thomas to have gotten back to working with the PRT. Makes sense if he can make it work, that is a wonderful source of power.

Marquis interlude thoughts:

TINY PRISON! I love tiny prison.

Look I'm sorry I don't make the rules but Marquis and Lung are totally gay for each other. They are both terrible people. I don't ship them because I want to, I ship them because there is no other option. I do what I have to do.

Glaistig Uaine is my new favorite. She is terrifying and I love her. Forget Bonesaw's passangers or Coil's agents, they're called head fairies now.

I'm sure Amy and Glaistig Uaine working together in the future won't be bad at all.

Worm Arc 13 thoughts:

Everything is fine, everyone is doing great, but Brian might need to use some vacation days. Just, I dunno, something tells me the dude might benefit from a short break.

We start right off with Taylor refusing to admit she kicked Mannequin's ass, even though all of her allies and all of his allies both agree she did. Which is my daughter 101. I wish she could love herself a little more.

Lisa got her game. It might not be perfect but I think it was well done by her. It still gives them more structure to work with, and more ways to fight back. As this arc shows.

Aisha is way to fucking reckless. I mean I feel for her I really do, but god damn girl. Sometimes your teammates are right! Even if your brother can be a bit of a dick about it.

General note, I absolutely love how Wildbow wrote stuff around Aisha using her power. Just every bit of it. It is very good. I have legit multiple times during this went "Oh fuck I forgot about IMP!" and that is perfect.

Mannequin kills Lucy, so he goes from being on my shit list to being on my super shit list. I'm going to be sad if I never get to see him die.

If Bentley had died I would have burned the world down. So luckily that didn't happen.

Sucks that Mannequin also killed some of Skitter's people. And that he ended up living in the end. But it was fun to watch him get his ass kicked a second time and have to get saved by Burnscar.

I fucking LOVE Genesis. I'm so glad we get to see more of her. Her power is so much fun.

WOLFSPIDER! Taylor bonding with Bitch over trauma. Taylor basically thinking you want someone to tell you want to do. And then “You had me at no holds barred"! AHHHH! Murder lesbians. Go fuck them up girls.

Skitter had a pretty decent plan for attacking the Nine, all things considered. Very good use of their strengths and the abilities they had on hand. But she did make one major mistake. Well, to be fair everyone involved did. And that was having Trickster be the only sniper. They should have brought a few of Coil's troops. Even one more half competent sniper and they would have killed one of the Nine in that first attack. If they had brought Coil's Sniper? 2 of the Nine dead minimum, maybe 3.

Also, the mannequins for Trickster to swap people with were very clever. Though they could have prevented Brian getting captured if they had brought 1 more. And you don't even need a good sniper with those. Point a gun at the head of a mannequin. Swap and shoot at basically the same moment. Bullet hits them before they even know they've swapped and you can't miss. But still, they did pretty good.

I mean maybe not from Grue's PoV, but whatever. He didn't die! He's fine.

Cherish getting absolutely fucking DESTROYED by Tattletale! Oh god it was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. Cherish tries to get into Tattletales head and Tattletale is just constantly 10 steps ahead and just gaaahhh! Fuck I love it. I would read 100 chapters that was just Tattletale fucking with people like that.

The setup Skitter used to talk to the Protectorate was so fucking cool. Full blown mimicking human speech with only bugs?! She's amplified her words before, but never had the bugs speak entirely on their own. Just the most badass thing. The thing that makes everyone remember you! Swarm of bugs shows up at the superhero base, takes the shape of a person and starts talking with bug sounds, saying "oh hey we just kicked the fuck out of the Nine and captured two of them, wanna actually be heroes and help us finish this?" God damn.

Also Trickster getting through a locked door by teleporting the lock away was very neat.

Of course the heroes don't help. Miss Militia and her "We can handle that on our own, with more calculation and less recklessness." Really? Are you really going to have less recklessness? Cause I've read the interlude. But more on that later.

HOLY FUCK IT SUCKS TO BE BRIAN! I mean, he got better. But still!

I knew my daughter wasn't going to die. I knew her two girlfriends weren't going to die. I was pretty sure Imp and Grue weren't going to die (I wasn't sure how Grue was living but it seemed likely) but even with all that I was kinda panicking during the whole Bonesaw thing.

SECOND TRIGGER EVENT! SECOND TRIGGER EVENTS CONFIRMED! FUCK YES! I'M SO SORRY THAT HAD TO HAPPEN TO YOU BRIAN BUT THAT WAS SO COOL!

Siberian a projection confirmed. I mean basically confirmed. Confirmed enough for me. Like sure the details aren't revealed and such, but they are totally some form of projection. (I don't list my predictions on here usually so everyone will just have to trust me when I say I guessed Siberian was a projection in arc 11 or 12.)

Also saw some (I assume) other alternate earths in that trigger event, which is neat. I'm sure they'll never come up again.

Interlude 1 - Aisha's mother sucks. I'm so sorry for the poor girl. Aisha also makes very bad choices. She got so fucking lucky she got away from the Nine the first time and then just went and got herself caught anyway! The fact that her power is passive and she has to work to turn it off sure fucking sucks though.

Interlude 2 - Hey Miss Militia, remember how I said I was going to get back to the "more calculation and less recklessness"? Cause we're back to that. Piggot is planning on dropping WHITE PHOSPHOROUS on part of a city! And then dropping a bunch of bombs made by a dangerous supervillain! Bombs that no one knows exactly what they do! How is that "less recklessness"? Also the PRT is just horribly run. God damn Piggot shouldn't have to be requesting stuff from other offices directly, they should have a central admin that manages reallocation of resources in situations like this. And they should have a full system of teams setup that aren't attached to a city, but instead deploy where they are needed! The government already has systems like this for disaster response and stuff. And between Endbringers and the Nine and other stuff the PRT knows that sometimes certain locations need more support. Terribly managed, badly run, they need better admin staff. They need people that know how to use a god damn spreadsheet. I have a lot more to say about Piggot and her plan but I feel like I'll get some chances to comment on it in Arc 14.

‘Hm? In what way?’

That earns her a laugh, mostly amused, a little sad.

‘That’s a no if I ever heard one.’

‘Well, I’m not in pain,’ Laudna offers. She doesn’t think she’s lying. The ache—that’s normal. She’s accustomed to it. Though, it is more powerful than it was. Her joints scream for attention and all her skin feels bruised. She is sore but it’s not real pain.

‘And your head?’

‘All in one piece.’ She falters when Imogen just. Sits patiently. Waits for her to keep talking. Laudna licks her lips. Flicks her fingers over the rough-soft corner of her journal. ‘Eshteross is dead.’

‘Yeah.’

‘I didn’t like seeing him like that.’

Muscles twitch in Imogen’s face and smooth out, replaced by unadulterated sorrow. ‘I’m sorry you had to see that.’

Laudna wants to know what the sorrow was cut with. Grief? Worry? Concern?

Love?

She flicks her fingers, dismissive. ‘It’s fine. Hardly the first time I’ve seen a dead body. Even a dead friend. I am sad, of course,’ she adds, because Imogen looks worried, ‘but mostly I’m thinking—well. About you.’

‘Me?’

‘Mhm.’

‘Why me?’

‘Imogen. If you had been the one laying there, I would not have been alright.’ Imogen tenses. Laudna wishes that she had the talent to talk on walls too. That she could sit in the corner of this conversation like a large and fascinating wolfspider, rather than coming at this directly. But Imogen deserves forthrightness. ‘You have been so attentive. Especially when we were—where we were. But you’re not – alright,’ she says, as delicately as she can.

Imogen blinks. Then, her eyelids slide closed and she sighed.

Such a tired gesture, as though all her energy has been directed to keeping them open.

It has been nearly a week since she has looked at Imogen—a week and mere moments; something tells her that Imogen never stopped looking at her.

Worm Arc 7 thoughts (I probably should have done this as two posts but I didn't):

Seriously, look at how my wonderful daughter takes the steps to communicate with Rachel in the way that works for Rachel.

And then look at how Rachel reaches back to do the same thing!!! AHHHHH!!!!!!

Taylor needs to take a longer rest and should not be sparing Brian the morning after the gala attack, but she quickly loses the opportunity to take a rest so whatever I guess.

Alec backstory! His father is fucking horrible oh my god. Kill him with fire.

Oh my god the fucking suit made of bugs I was screaming. And then having it keep shape while crouching to make it seem like you turned into bugs? Having the bugs all make noise while you talked to make it sound super weird?! I'm in fucking love, look at how amazing my little girl is!

Taylor stabbed a Nazi. And later she stabbed another Nazi! I'm so proud.

The E88 list. Oh my god Coil, way to not think things through. (I mean, he probably thought it through and was ok with the outcome, but given that he wants the Undersiders on his team it doesn't seem like the best action to take.)

And the fucking drugged 12 year old Coil keeps in his bunker to run probability numbers for him? I wasn't expecting him to be good but god damn he turned really fucking evil really quickly.

Grue kneecapped a Nazi and I'm so proud of him. Remember, every time you kneecap a Nazi an angel gets its wings.

Lots of interesting powers on E88 (Night, Hookwolf). Too bad they chose to be Nazis instead of something cool. I hope Hookwolf get's melted down to slag. (Stormtiger's power, costume, and name feels directly out of 80's comics and I'm here for it.)

Did I mention the wolfspider moments? Taylor got her lunch! And then Rachel gave Taylor the good fetch toy so she could play fetch the the doggos. And the worked together to save the one dogs life! WOLFSPIDER!

Shit got awkward with Brian.

I hope Sophia gets hit by a bus that crashes into another bus. In a volcano.

If Angelica doesn't recover I'm burning down at least 5 Nazis. I think that's fair.

I'm sad that babies are fighting even though I get why Taylor is doing what she is. Being a villain is hard.

And we end with an Endbringer showing up which kinda makes everything else seem small fries.

Interlude thoughts - I like getting to see Miss Militia's backstory. I wish she wasn't "Guns and America the hero" because I actually think her personality and the way her powers work beyond the making guns part is pretty neat. Also she remembers what getting her powers was like which is super cool. Everyone gets a god piece I guess. I'm sure I'll learn more eventually.

More interlude thoughts - I love Dragon I wish they didn't run a prison so I could love them more. I love that she basically got through Poley the Polearm Man's "heavy security" in like negative 5 seconds. Anything to make him look bad. I will never like him, I refuse.

poppy + myrna + vargos universe:

- poppy, myrna, n vargo are best friends except vargo n poppy hate each other n they only hang out because theyre both really close to myrna (vargo is her boyfriend n poppy has been her best friend since before they can remember)

- poppy is trans and has The Big Sad,, a babey... a punk babey!!!!! he also lowkey kinda has a mullet so :))))

- myrna is bi and a Wild Child!!! party animal yet also a very lovely lady,, knows how to moderate her shit yet also have fun about it (head over heels with vargo,, tries to keep things calm between the boys but sometimes it doesnt work)

- vargo is basically just the physical embodiment of prejudices n stereotypes so like yeehaw (hes very in love with myrna so thats rad)

- they all love slipknot n hollywood undead so thats that on that

- they all live in new mexico,, poppy was born in massachusettes but moved to new mexico because of his parents... myrnas father is from israel n her mother is from new mexico,, she grew up going back n forth between the two places but her family finally settled down... vargo is the lame one whos been in new mexico all his life n has never been in any other state/country/whatever

- selectively mute, tech geek, nearly twenty-seven years old and still doesnt know how people or emotions work, independant mostly because they are scared of people/doing something wrong n scaring someone away, very good at hiding how they feel and has almost no (visible) emotional range

- since they dont really have anyone the only way to get the upper hand on them is to trigger their ptsd (very easy to do if their enemy knows them well enough) that they have from their childhood/family ((emems family = terrible people, -1129294939202/10))

- since they are a spiderverse oc,, it be weird if i left out their Look (tm) so heres a quick description of them:

long cape/poncho type thing with a very large hood (poncho in the front, cape in the back),, colour palette of a wolfspider except with red in it,, design is very shape-centric (triangles n squares n half-circles),, mask looks the same as the front if the poncho - which cuts off at the midriff and the rest of the outfit has the same fit as the usual spider-suit,, looks like theyre wearing shorts but nope!! its just the colours of their Fit :))

- also has a dark gray belt with matching bracelets/anklets (like the bends in the spiders legs),, the pouches on the belt are full of web bombs that they made

mister formid + flatline + maxumis + ??? + 50/50 + melodic:

- mister formid is basically just an offbrand babadook tbh,, except he can turn into bodiless monsters that are kind if like the physical embodiments of self-hatred fueled thoughts

- flatline is a heart monitor come to life,, but they/he only appears to people theyre/hes going after (and they/he only appears as a reflection from the waist up),, they/he doesnt have a face and instead has the lines that go up down on a heart monitor (the lines change,, just like a normal face does... theyre/hes very emotive!!!).... doesnt talk but they/he makes beeping/flatline noises depending on their mood!! beeps = positive and flatline = negative

- maxumis is my negativity but in a human form,, though he isnt technically a human???? more like a hallucination.... he wears a mask that covers the void of where a face should be,, and hes also flatlines boyfriend!!! they are soft for each other :))

- ??? doesnt have a name yet im just calling it that until i come up with a name.... physically looks just like me except pins hold its eyes open in a diamond shape and its mouth in a very wide/unnaturally large smile (very creepy!!! vent character for when my mind decides that its time to obsess over her) ..... genderless fuckhead but not they/them,, it is its only pronoun!!!! dont try n correct me on calling it "it",, thats what its supposed to be called!!!

- 50/50 is like a weird mix between the other five Negative Ones (thats legit what i call mister formid, flatline, maxumis, ???, 50/50, and melodic when referred to as a group) personality-wise except its physically a blank canvas but split down the middle * a dark line seperates the two sides (left side of face is blended out from the line, right side is plain white,, left side of body is plain white, right side of body is blended out from the line)

- melodic looks like a funky mix between venom, slenderman, and the rake (a very underrated creepypasta btw!!!),, makes low humming noises to attract people towards it,, whiter spots of its flesh are radioactive,, lots n lots of teeth (first row is sharp n long, as the rows go back they get shorter n more dull),, two sets of eyes, one of top of the other * bottom set see better in the dark n the top set see better in the light ((bottom set are larger n the top set are smaller)),, its eyes dont have pupils n they blend from dark (outer) to light (inner)

And the scene when they realize Skitter (shush, she's still Skitter at that point) can hear them? Absolutely amazing. Just the entire building of bugs saying "Yes" all at once in response to Tagg saying "So, you can hear me." So fucking cool.

Danny gets a chance to redeem himself and he starts our quite rough, not really giving his daughter the support he should be. But after a bit he starts to stand up for her to Tagg, so I guess I can give him partial credit on this.

Sure you are just learning some of the things your daughter has done, but you shouldn't be trusting what the cops are saying so easily!

And as for Alexandria . . . well I could spend a lot of bullet points talking about how terrible she was being and how it doesn't matter how noble her end goals might be, her actions were evil, and so on.

I personally wasn't worried about Brian or Rachel being dead, the fact that we specifically didn't "see" the body (cause it was in a body bag the entire time) made it pretty clear that it probably wasn't them.

"Stop trying things!" has got to be one of the best lines in the book.

I'm not sure which is more upsetting in the end, that my daughter is going to be a cop or that "Definitely Not Armsmaster" is probably going to end up being her fucking mentor!

Burly Henchman Number 1 (Forrest) is ready to switch to Burly Sidekick Number 1 in a heartbeat. That man trusts Taylor, no matter what name or costume she is wearing.

Danny shows up and is just . . . Danny. But Charlotte had my back! Every single time he said something that made me want to rip my hair out she was right there to call him out!

Danny coming in with "Kids are hard" and Charlotte correcting him with "People are hard to deal with" was perfection. Best possible response! It acknowledges that kids are just people and need to be treated as such, and it adds "to deal with" which changes the tone to be saying negative things about the situation, not the child.

Forrest learned who Danny was and within a few seconds was out-dadding the SHIT out of him.

"You are having trouble with your one child? That sucks, excuse me while I take care of this pile of children right here and do it in a positive way."

I'm so happy I finally get to see Contessa fight! It pretty much looked exactly how I expected it to look and I love it!! She works for the bad guys, but I still love her.
