LA MADELEINE

St-François-Longchamp, le 6 aout 2023

Nouveau week-end cyclosportif en montagne avec une des plus difficile épreuve de l’hexagone qui fête ses 20 ans ; la Madeleine et ses 135km pour 4700m D+ ! C’est ma 4eme participation ici et le parcours est inchangé par rapport à l’an dernier : col du Mollard par le col de la Confrérie (Albiez-Montrond), Col de la Croix de Fer, Lacets de Montvernier et col du Chaussy pour un final corsé au col de la Madeleine escaladé par le terrible versant de Montgellafrey. Côte météo nous retombons malheureusement sur des conditions maussades comme c’est trop souvent le cas cette saison : peu de pluie mais routes humides à mouillées et surtout le froid : pas plus de 7° sur les sommets !

En effet pas de surprise après le petit déjeuner à St-François : petite bruine, routes mouillée et 7,5° d’affiché sur le petit chalet en face de l’appart : on ressort la tenue hivernale ! Je m‘habille donc chaudement pour descendre à la Chambre d’autant qu’on a la possibilité de laisser un sac dans un véhicule qui rejoindra le col de la Madeleine. Cela dit après 2km ça devient sec et même un peu de ciel bleu semble se montrer au-dessus de la vallée de la Maurienne. Comme prévu je laisse gants longs, surchaussures et veste dans l’auto, conservant simplement manchettes et gilet sans manche (avec un sous maillot hivers… qui s’avèrera être une erreur un peu plus tard !). Sur la ligne je rencontre quelques adversaires redoutables : Tim Alleman, Frederic Glorieux, Alexandre Banegas, Arthur Blanc, Leo Belchi, Bruno Morel ou Guillaume Cloître pour ne citer qu’eux.

7h45 pile le départ est donné en direction du nord ou de gros nuages nous font face et de nouveau une petite bruine qui s’installe. En tête de peloton je mène la troupe qui est plutôt tranquille cette année ! La bonne vingtaine de km de plaine est ainsi avalée pratiquement sans attaques et c’est ainsi que nous attaquons le col du Mollard : 16,3km à 6,1%. D’entrée un gars du Granfondoteam.be attaque et j’assure de suite le tempo : à 5w/kg il ne creuse pas l’écart et on le maintient en vue mais pas grand monde ne prend de relais si ce n’est Julien Pesce. Une fois l’homme de tête repris, je baisse un peu le rythme autour des 4,5w/kg où rien ne se passe jusqu’au col de la Confrérie (Albiez-le-Jeune) où je me relève pour faire le point et constater que nous sommes encore une trentaine. Pendant ce temps un autre belge tente sa chance et je remonte en tête pour assurer de nouveau le tempo jusqu’à Albiez-le-Vieux : ça visse plus fort dans le dernier km du col du Mollard où je bascule en milieu de groupe dans la descente sur le Barrage de Belleville. Les conditions sont meilleures ici avec 9° sur le compteur et une route sèche. Par contre des cassures provoquent des écarts et je me trouve avec 4-5 gars dont Guillaume à devoir boucher quelques secondes de retard une fois sur la route menant à St-Sorlin-d’Arves.

Après déjà 2h de course, le final de la Croix de Fer se profile : j’emmène de nouveau le groupe à l’entrée de St-Sorlin avant qu’Alex durcisse vraiment l’allure. Même au-delà des 5w/kg je suis encore bien en jambes et reste collé à la roue pendant que le ménage s’opère ; le groupe éclate dans les lacets et ça commence à devenir limite pour moi mais ça passe avec un dernier gros effort au sommet où je bascule dans les roues d’Alex et Tim et nous ne sommes plus qu’une dizaine ! La descente sur le Glandon me permet de me ravitailler tout en refermant la veste même si avec 9° ici et quelques éclaircies le temps n’est pas si mauvais. J’essai de faire je jump sur la petite montée du col du Glandon pour me positionner en tête mais tout le monde semble avoir la même idée et je reste dernier… pour une descente que je n’apprécie pas. Dans la roue de Bruno ça passe sans encombre la partie raide en lacets avant de perdre quelques longueurs. Thomas Josso revient de l’arrière et à trois, nous prenons de bons relais sur le replat de St-Colomban-des-Villards ce qui permet de pratiquement faire la jonction avec la tête mais toujours dans la roue de Bruno on décroche de nouveau : Jaouen Borleteau nous passe au prix d’une grosse descente et je met plus de temps à passer à mon tour mais les écarts sont faibles et j’aperçois la fin du groupe de tête : confirmation dans la ligne droite finale menant à St-Etienne-de-Cuines où je reviens facilement juste avant la bifurcation des parcours 115/135km : la moitié du groupe opte pour le 115km et nous nous retrouvons à 6 pour le grand parcours : Tim, Frederic, Arthur, Jaouen et moi puis Bruno qui est rapidement revenu et qui me dira avoir un soucis de frein avant expliquant la descende un peu compliquée ! On profite de la courte transition jusqu’à Pontamafrey pour se ravitailler (ou pause pipi pour certains) et très vite le col du Chaussy par les Lacets de Montvernier se profile (13,8km à 7,7%).

Comme depuis le début, c’est moi qui assure le rythme. A 5w/kg je suis toujours en jambes dans les lacets où Jaouen décroche. Nous voilà 5 à Montvernier où je reprends les commandes après un court relais de Frederic et Tim. Comme dans le Mollard, autour des 4,5w/kg le rythme semble convenir à tous et surtout à moi où je commence à penser à un joli top 5 : en effet Arthur, Tim et Frederic étant en principe hors de portée pour moi, je serai plus dans le match pour la 4eme place avec Bruno. Un soulagement supplémentaire après avoir passé le difficile passage à flan de falaise où personne n’a attaqué et je laisse mes camarades mener un peu jusqu’au sommet où je re-accélère dans l’optique de remplir un bidon au ravito : c’est chose faite en un temps record et je reviens vite fait sur mes compagnons qui m’ont attendu. On se reconcentre sur la descente où en 4eme position je suis sans trop de soucis le rythme imposé par Arthur jusqu’à ND du Cruet où il ne reste plus que le col de la Madeleine à avaler : 17,4km à 8,2%.

Et là je n’aurai pas le loisir d’imposer le tempo : Arthur met en route immédiatement ! Frederic et Tim avec un temps de retard tentent de suivre pendant que je parviens à accrocher la roue de Bruno. Je sens que je suis encore bien et je parviens à distancer Bruno de quelques longueurs autour des 5w/kg voyant Arthur s’envoler devant le duo belge. Malgré au coup de chaud, ça va plutôt bien sur les 20 premières minutes (-7’’ par rapport à l’an dernier) même si Bruno m’a repris et encore jusqu’à Montgellafrey où j’accuse une trentaine de secondes. Pour la suite ça devient compliqué : craquage complet où j’attends patiemment le lieu-dit bien nommé « le Replat ». Je mange ce qui me reste dans les poches mais rien n’y fait et il me faudra 22’ pour boucler les 5 derniers kms à tout juste 3,7 w/kg… une misère ! Je parviens tout de même à conserver 2’ de marge pour une belle 5eme place finale (2eme des 40-49ans). Plus tôt Arthur l’aura emporter auteur d’une montée spectaculaire de la Madeleine en 56’ et 5,9w/kg (1’ seulement de plus que les pro… les puristes apprécieront). Frederic prend la 2eme place devant Tim et Bruno 4eme.

Une fin de course délicate mais qui ne change finalement rien à l’affaire : même si j’avais très bien fini l’an dernier, mon chrono ne m’aurai pas permis de prétendre à mieux, le podium étant inaccessible et Bruno un cran au-dessus aussi. Ce final compliqué n’est pas illogique non plus : j’ai établi de légers records de puissance sur 2h05-2h15 (enchainement Mollard-Croix de Fer) et j’améliore sensiblement ma marque au-delà de 4h45 d’effort avec +18W de 5h05 à 5h20 : il était donc bien difficile de faire plus sur la fin !

THEODULE RIBOT - Une délicieuse obscurité, Palais Longchamp à Marseille

Le musée des Beaux-Arts de Marseille présente, l’œuvre au noir de Théodule Ribot (1821-1893), un peintre proche de la peinture italienne et espagnole du XVIIe siècle. 

En présentant ses sources d’inspiration et ses contemporains (il aurait fallu ouvrir le débat jusqu’à Daumier et Manet), l’exposition Théodule Ribot. Une délicieuse obscurité tente de lui rendre sa juste place au sein du courant réaliste. 

Ses natures mortes rappellent celles de Velasquez, les portraits de ses proches ont la gravité mélancolique que l'on voit dans ceux de Rembrandt, ses grandes scènes religieuses affichent un ténébrisme à la Ribera. Si Théophile Gautier admire ses petits tableaux, la critique contemporaine lui reproche d'avoir “la rage du noir” et de signer ses toiles “en vidant un sac de charbon”.

Le parcours est un peu confus, (les références se mêlent aux tableaux de l’artiste, la chronologie se croise avec des thématiques pas forcément lisibles) mais il est saisissant. Comme certains visages devenus bosselés sous le pinceau de Ribot, ses natures mortes prennent du relief. Aux citrons le peintre préfère les cédrats, aux pommes les coings. 

Il se fait fier de rendre leurs brillances aux céramiques vernissées et à la nacre des huîtres, de la matité à la terre cuite ou à une vieille planche. Il triomphe dans les chairs crues de son gigot. Dans ses toiles très sombres, éclatent les rares blancs et les taches de sang. 

L’ensemble est à la fois puissant, simple et apaisant, le retour à un certain classicisme a du bon, on savoure l’espace du Palais Longchamp qui met parfaitement en valeur ce type d’exposition.
