Sabrina gets quite the unexpected gift on her 16th birthday: She discovers she's half witch!
A scene from "Pilot", the first episode of the first season of Sabrina The Teenage Witch (1996), featuring the live action debuts (pilot excepted) of Sabrina, Salem, Hilda and Zelda, plus Harvey, Libby, Mr. Pool and Jenny! check out the YouTube channel that provided this video!
Obviously I'll have much to say about this show, but for many of you, THIS is Sabrina, and for good reason! That period between 1996-2002 was the closest the character got to mainstream popularity, and we owe it to this show! It's aged well too, great comedy, emotions and creativity, alongside a talented cast! Give it a look!

Lambros Producer: Richard Davis Production Design: John Kavelin Story: Nick Bakay Movie Reviews: Wuchak: ***Sabrina goes to a new high school where she learns she’s a witch*** Released to TV in spring 1996, “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” was the pilot movie for the series that ran for seven years from 1996-2003. The plot revolves around Sabrina (Melissa Joan Hart) having to move from Massachusetts to live with her two eccentric aunts in Rockland County, New York, where she starts attending Riverdale High, becomes besties with Marnie (Michelle Beaudoin) and contends with requisite mean girl, Katy Lemore (Lalainia Lindbjerg). After her 16th birthday, Sabrina learns she’s a witch and grapples with the morality of having powers other mortals don’t. The tone of the production is decidedly pedestrian in a mid-90’s TV manner, but the cast brightens things up with their energy and a decent script. (It was amusing to learn why Salem can talk and other cats can’t). I’ve probably watched a dozen episodes of the subsequent series and the main draw was always Melissa’s winsomeness. She was 19 years-old when this pilot was shot and just got more beautiful over the course of the series. For those interested, Ryan Reynolds has a significant role; he was 18-19 during filming. The movie runs 1 hour, 31 minutes and was shot in British Columbia with some establishing shots done in Brookline, Massachusetts (or so IMDb says). GRADE: B-

COMING UP! Denver-based glam rocker Aaron Hart, lead singer of the band Love Stallion, is tonight’s Mr. Media interview guest on my latest YOUTUBE PREMIERE video! Set a reminder to join us TONIGHT at 9 p.m. EST (6 p.m. PST), Saturday, April 6! Watching the Denver-based band Love Stallion takes me back to the 1980s when glam and hair metal bands were all the rage, from Motley Crue and Ratt to Def Leppard and Whitesnake. To me, it was a fun, sometimes frivolous time with bands and music to match. It was loud, raucous and the chicks dug it the most. Hart is a bit of a throwback to a kinder, gentler age, and yet it seems pretty damn fresh today. He will be performing two songs live on the show today, the Love Stallion single, “Slow Release,” plus “Valentine.” You won’t want to miss this one! Here is the link: https://youtu.be/OGsXv7k-93k (PS — If you miss the show’s premiere, rest assured you can watch it any time you like by clicking on the same link above!) And please SUBSCRIBE to the Mr. Media YouTube Channel so you never miss another interview. Sabrina the teenage witch movie. series#
In the series the aunts gave her the book. In the film, she goes to school, not knowing she is a witch, but finds out the night of her 16th birthday by finding the spell book.
Sabrina the teenage witch movie. tv#
In the TV show, Sabrina is told she is a witch before she goes to school. For example: Harvey, Aunt Hilda and Aunt Zelda. With the exception of Sabrina and Marnie/Jenny everyone in both the sitcom and film are played by different actors.
Sabrina the teenage witch movie. movie#
In the TV show, Salem is much more self-centered and was turned into a cat for attempting to take over the world, while in the movie Salem is much more sophisticated and turned into a cat for kissing someone who did never really love him.
The person who plays Salem's voice is different.
In the film, both witches are quite clever, but Zelda is much more serious than Hilda.
In the TV show, Aunt Hilda is the rather unintelligent "fun Aunt" and Aunt Zelda is much more brilliant and serious.
Harvey is "nerdy" in the film whereas in the TV series, he is more of a "jock".
Katie is more like a stereotypical cheerleader than Libby as she is blonde and slim, while Libby is dark-haired and curvy.
Michelle Beaudoin plays Marnie, Sabrina's unintelligent and unpopular friend, whereas in the first season of the TV show, her character (also Sabrina's best friend) is called Jenny and is quite clever.
In the film, Katie takes the part as the antagonist, while in the series it is Libby.
In the film, both her parents are witches, while in the TV show her father is a witch and her mother is mortal (non-witch).
In the TV show, she uses her finger to cast spells, but in the film, she just needs the power of her mind.
In the film, Sabrina lives in Riverdale (same as Archie Andrews in the comics) and in the TV show lives in Westbridge.
In the film, Sabrina's last name is Sawyer and not Spellman as in the TV show.
Michelle Beaudoin as Marnie Littlefieldĭifferences with the television series.
Melissa Joan Hart as Sabrina Sawyer Spellman.
The story ends happily with Sabrina and Harvey together at the dance. All the while, Harvey likes Sabrina and waits to see if she will have a change of heart and start to notice him. Sabrina has to use her magic to turn Katie into a poodle to stop her but later changes her back. Katie discovers Sabrina's secret and sets out to let everyone know what Sabrina is. Sabrina is able to use her magic to win a track competition and get Seth to ask her to the Spring Fling. Sabrina then develops a crush on Seth, the cutest boy in school who happens to be dating Katie La More, the school's " queen bee aka mean girl." Sabrina has to find a way to use her newly discovered magical power to get Seth to notice her, but at the same time not cast a love spell, which could backfire on her.Īfter Katie dumps Seth, he starts to notice Sabrina. On her 16th birthday, Sabrina discovers that she is a witch. The movie centers around Sabrina Sawyer, who is sent to live with her eccentric aunts in Riverdale.
3 Differences with the television series.
This was the name originally used in the comics for the home of Archie and his group of friends.Īlthough set in the United States, just like the comics and said television series, the movie was shot entirely in British Columbia, Canada. Also of note is the fact that, unlike the comics, which were set in the fictional town of Greendale, and the eventual television series (located in an equally fictional town named Westbridge), the television film was said to take place in Riverdale. The only two actors who would appear in both the film and television series would be Melissa Joan Hart, whose character possessed a different surname from her comic book and television counterpart, and Michelle Beaudoin, whose character was renamed for the television series. It served as a pilot for the Sabrina the Teenage Witch television series and premiered on Showtime on April 7, 1996. Sabrina the Teenage Witch is a 1996 American television film adaptation based on the comic book series of the same name from Archie Comics. Barney Cohen and Kathryn Wallack Productions

Sabrina family secret

Penn Jillette plays Drell, head of the Witches' Council.Clips of the video are shown in The Stinger for the episode too. Melissa Joan Hart had a movie coming out at the time that was titled Drive Me Crazy after the song - and she and Adrian Grenier appeared in the video as a tie-in. Britney Spears guest stars in the Season 4 premiere to perform "(You Drive Me) Crazy".Robbie Benson just had to do The Beast's voice when he showed up.This is not the first time Phil Fondacaro has played a troll.David Lascher previously played a character called Josh in Clueless - which had a crossover with this, featuring Sabrina.Buffy even says during the episode "she's our Sabrina". Around the same time she also starred in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode "Witch", where she also played the mother of a witch daughter or so we think as the episode goes on. Robin Ricker plays Cousin Marigold, the mother of a bratty witch daughter. Her magical gesture in both? Crossing her arms. Aunt Irma is played by Barbara Eden, who also played in another supernatural sitcom. When Tim, played by George Wendt of Cheers fame, walks into Hilda's coffee shop in a later episode, everyone raises their mugs and greets him, "Tim!".Salem also received his own series of books where he would get into his own adventures. There were also several novelizations, some of which tended to be more action-packed and adventure themed. While the show was airing, it received an Animated Adaptation in Sabrina: The Animated Series - produced by DIC Entertainment, this time with Melissa Joan Hart voicing the two aunts and her sister Emily Hart (who had a recurring role on the sitcom as Sabrina's bratty cousin Amanda) voicing Sabrina. Notable for its frequent guest stars, including Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne, Tara Lipinski, Daniel Bedingfield, *NSYNC, Usher, Backstreet Boys, Johnny Mathis, Dick Van Dyke, and Barbara Eden. Reruns aired on The Hub before the channel became Discovery Family. There were also two additional TV movies, Sabrina Goes to Rome and Sabrina Down Under featuring Tara Strong in a very rare live action role as a movie-exclusive character Gwen.įirst ran on ABC's TGIF line-up, before being picked up by The WB. The show was extremely similar in characterization and plot-structure to Out of This World (1987), but was in fact based on material which predated that show by several decades: the same Archie Comics as the series Sabrina and The Groovie Goolies - though the animated show went in a very different direction. Other fixtures in her life were her talking cat Salem (a witch punished for his megalomania by being trapped in an animal body), her oblivious love interest Harvey, and her mortal enemy Libby (former Trope Namer for the Alpha Bitch). She moves in with her witch aunts Hilda and Zelda, and learns to survive the pratfalls of high school with a little magic on her side. On her 16th birthday, Sabrina Spellman, resident of Westbridge, Massachusetts, discovers that she is a witch and has magical powers. None of the cast members carried over onto the show except Melissa Joan Hart as Sabrina, and Michelle Beaudoin who played Marnie in the movie and Jenny in the show. It was preceded by a Pilot Movie that aired on Showtime but had a different setting and continuity to the show (the movie was set in Riverdale, while the show was set in Westbridge). Sabrina the Teenage Witch is a live-action sitcom that ran from 1996 to 2003, based on the Archie comic book. That Sabrina character certainly gets around, doesn't she?

Island - OASIS Immersion from Vallée Duhamel on Vimeo.
Island is a story that examines isolated characters, each of them living in their own world, and what occurs when they wake up to find themselves in the same subconscious dream. The film explores the impact of loneliness and the transformation that takes place if we let our individual endeavours collide inside one collective mind.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Chapter Six Review: An Exorcism In Greendale
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Chapter Six Review: An Exorcism In Greendale
There’s a moment this episode when Ambrose calls Sabrina “cocky.” It’s when Sabrina brings up that the exorcism on Susie’s uncle (Jason Beaudoin) will be good practice for when she takes down the Dark Lord. Sabrina brushes the critique aside (as she does a lot of people this episode, when they try to talk about something that’s important to them), but it’s worth noting, because while the exorcism…
