Though conservatives often accuse companies of losing out when a brand touts progressive values, the right-wing adage “go woke, and go broke,” has been disproven by a recent study. Brands that are supportive of LGBTQ+ rights or social justice movements see greater consumer engagement and loyalty from customers. Unstereotype Alliance, a business initiative convened by UN Women, more inclusive advertising campaigns positively impact profits, sales and brand worth. Researchers at Saïd Business School at Oxford University analyzed data from Diageo, Kantar and Unilever, in collaboration with the Geena Davis Institute. The research, based on an analysis of 392 brands across 58 countries, reveals that inclusive advertising can boost short-term sales by nearly 3.5% and drive long-term sales by over 16%. The study spanned various product categories, including confectionery, snacks, personal care, beauty, pet food, pet care, alcohol, consumer healthcare, and household products across diverse regions. Inclusive advertising also persuades 62% of consumers to choose a product and enhances brand loyalty for 15% of shoppers. The study highlights that ads that authentically portray people, without using stereotypes, have a clear competitive advantage in the marketplace, influencing consumer preferences and long-term success.

On the other side, the beer brand Bud Light also faced right-wing rage after partnering with trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney. After the incident, Jason Warner, CEO of the European branch of Bud Light’s parent company, Anheuser-Busch InBev, said that the company would no longer attempt inclusivity and “stay in our lane.”
The study comes after right-wing influencer Robby Starbuck has forced multiple companies to cave by accusing them of having “woke agendas” and sending a social media mob after them. Starbuck succeeded in getting companies such as Lowe’s, John Deere, Harley Davidson, and more to drop their DEI initiatives, stop partnering with the Human Rights Campaign, and end sponsorship of Pride festivals. When fear of Starbuck caused Ford Motors to follow behind the other brands, President of the Human Rights Campaign, Kelley Robinson, called Starbuck a “MAGA bully and Republican-reject.” It later released a study that details how rollbacks on DEI from large corporations in recent years are wildly unpopular with LGBTQ+ individuals and alienating many consumers. The latest research adds even more weight to that argument.
A new study by Oxford University’s Saïd Business School and Geena Davis Institute reveals that pro-inclusive advertising and support for social justice (esp. LGBTQ+) causes see increased consumer engagement and loyalty from customers, much to the chagrin of anti-inclusion activists like Robby Starbuck.

Stupid Sexy Duelist Saïd
(Context: I posted this back on Oct. 30 2021 when I was still using CSP regularly, but apparently forgot to cross-post here! Also, for full disclosure: I did trace the duel disks and (top half) of the card monsters because I couldn't be assed on top of redesigning and drawing Saïd twice for what was supposed to just be a silly thing. Now, for a quick flash back:)
I have a few friends that have been retweeting Yu-Gi-Oh! stuff recently, so that old hyperfocus has mercilessly, gloriously reared its head. It didn’t take long for me to go “hee hee what if Saïd as a duelist because mummy” and I drew plenty of fanart in high school so I figured I could still approximate the style…and it has escalated so, SO much from there. I went to check if the Millennium Scale was ever actually used and found out the Items were created by Akhenaten and since then I have been spiraling through wiki pages losing my mind and frequently manic-cackling. I love it.
Eventually I will try to organize a human-readable conspiracy theory crossover post detailing parallels, how they fit together, and what Implications each series has on the other, but for now…Saïd as a fabulous duelist! Both modern-day and as we see him in Thinis, with Card Trader and Illusory Gentleman as his signature card monsters! With just a few excessive buckles, as you do. The hieroglyphs in the background are pulled from the obelisks that can be found around City of the Sun God (because I had them on hand from when I did art of Jennet, wherein I tweaked them to be mildly unsettling for her cursed artifact–though they are presented as normal here).
I also did a version without the duel disk and diadhank, 'cause making those removable was relatively simple, so this version’s more relevant to pure Secret Worlders. I replaced modern-Saïd’s card with the scarab he tosses you so you can get to Thinis, and for Thinis-Saïd I moved that scarab from being slotted into his collar (where you can now see the gap to allow the hourglass to fit) into his overly-dramatically-posed hand. And then made BIG versions of the scarab to show the details that are hard to see in the cutscene. (Minus the patina, though I must say I am quite pleased with how the light reflecting through the glass turned out! Drawing clear things is hard.) And then also painted over screenshots I went and took of the Time Tomb so this version would have a different background. Because why not make things more complicated for myself.
AND THEN because the internet is a gift and has tools to do so, I turned the Time Tomb into a card, approximating sending Bees back in time to retrieve long-buried artifacts. Is it balanced? It is worthless? Would it make more sense as a continuous spell? Yes, but Duel Links uses a ruleset that limits you to three spells/traps, and I’d want to use it with Card Trader and Solemn Wishes because IMMORTALITY VIA ENDLESS LIFE POINTS but not want to be locked out of using other spells and traps I have no idea, but it amuses me. (The SCK-code uses a number that is repeated for Kingdom lore coordinates on crygaia, and the serial number at the bottom is relevant years. Because anywhere I can find to make a reference, I will do so.)
